The first time we took our two small dogs here to get groomed it was EXCELLENT service and we were THRILLED with the results. After today, with Mike grooming the dogs, AWFUL Service and I left UPSET with the results. Here's the whole story:
Earlier today, I took my 12 lb Japanese Chin and my 5 lb Yorkshire Terrier in to get groomed at this location. We had gotten both dogs groomed here once before and were thoroughly pleased with the service, quality, and care that was provided to both dogs. The workers were friendly and cooperative, even telling me how much of a pleasure it was to have both dogs groomed there (apparently they did really good). Even better, my dogs enjoyed the experience so much that when I took them to get some bones at this Petco a different time, they headed right to the grooming door (which was quite a surprise). Since it was such a good experience, we decided to return to this location today for a grooming. I had called earlier that day to make an appointment and was pleased that I was able to take both dogs in soon after the store opened at 9 am.
Mike was the one who groomed the dogs and when I came to pick them up, I was extremely unhappy with the results. I tried to make it clear that the Chin only needed the fur on her feet rounded and a little thinning on the rear feathering. This is not what I got. Perhaps I wasn't clear in explaining what I meant, but she looked like a poodle in the rear and like a child took scissors to her tail and bottom. Don't even get me started with her front feathering or fur behind the ears (both now non-existent). Her body is growing a thicker, fluffier coat for winter so it looks really bad that her head, front legs, and butt now are cut super short.
The Yorkie turned out better, but her face looked hardly touched. When I asked Mike about this--after being upset about the other dog-- he said that he did cut it a little (I couldn't tell) and informed me that he was going to ask us about some shorter hairs on her face. However, he didn't mention anything to us about this until after we complained about it. Also, the checklist we were provided said she had matting? Something that Mike said was "a few snarles", not "matting," before she was groomed. I wasn't aware of any "matting" since she is bushed often when not groomed, nor was I informed that they found any matting during the brush out or bath when I went to pick her up.
I was upset about the outcome of today but figured it was just a big communication until we got home and I noticed that both of my dogs were acting strange. The Chin was walking with a limp and her pug-type tail was down and was cocked to the side of her when she walked, like she was hurting. She is known to have hip dysplasia but it takes something to get her hip irritated, which it what it seems happened. Not only this, but the Yorkie was dragging her bottom on the ground and walking with a big arch in her back, very unusual for her. I went to see what was going on and found a large, bright red line about the size of a clipper blade running down from the base of her tail towards her right hip. It wasn't bleeding but definitely was causing her discomfort.
All this for just about $70?! It doesn't seem worth it.
Like I said, the first time we went it was EXCELLENT service and we were THRILLED with the results. This time, with Mike, AWFUL Service and UPSET with the results. read more
