Overall I had a pretty good experience with the Animal Keeper in Poway. I requested a tour of the place and they were able to schedule one and gave me a rundown. They offer lots of different services for different kinds of dogs. My dog prefers to play with people than other dogs so we signed up for the solo play. I dropped off my pup and the transition in was done quickly. I had my pup here for 3 days and 2 nights. I had asked them in person and in my notes to send pictures and updates whenever they could. I didn't hear anything from them and I couldn't reach them until the last day when I called them. The person that answered the phone was able to send over a picture they took and let me know how he was doing so I felt relieved but it would've been nice if I was getting updates during his stay and if I could reach them before the day he was getting picked up. We have taken our dogs here for boarding for over 20 years, most recently last May. We called to board our dog and was told we cannot board him because he's too old!! Our dog chases remote controlled cars, birds, rabbits, squirrels. He's not on any medication and eats very well! It just blows my mind that they said he can't be boarded because "he's too old!" He's 12 but acts like he's 2!! So based on this, I would not recommend this place for boarding. Since posting this review, Roberta, a manager at Animal Keeper, called to apologize for what we were told. She said she and another manager were speaking with all the employees re this, and said that our dog is completely welcome at their facility. read more

We just checked our two cats into the Animal Keeper earlier today. This is probably the 5th or 6th time we've taken them there for a multi-day stay. They've always been well cared for and seem to be in good spirits when picked up and returned home. My dogs love their doggie daycare. I like that the dogs are separated by their sizes (Small or Large) for the play areas. One of my dogs is afraid of bigger dogs so he's happy to be just other dogs his size. They come home exhausted from playing all day. They are strict about vaccinations so check if you're up to date before taking your dog there. They required a couple of the vaccines to be given every 6 months instead of yearly. We LOVE The Animal Keeper!! My pup Kiko has been going to camp weekly and has been boarded there during our vacations for over 5 years (our previous dog Cinnamon who was blind went there for 8 years prior to Kiko). The staff is amazing and I always feel at ease knowing my pup is going to be well taken care of (he is a handful!). When we walk in I'm am always greeted with a smile (it might be because Kiko has 2 paws up on the front counter) but the staff is genuinely happy to see both me and my pup. When I pick him up it is the same except I have a happy (but tired) dog. Camp did its job. They also are amazing communicators. Sometimes I call them when I am on vacation to check on him. We've boarded our 2 year old goldendoodle here and we've also had her come to day camp a few times. It's always been a pleasant experience, the facility is clean, and the staff is welcoming. After we had a baby late last year, it became apparent that our very doodley doodle, who was used to being an only child, needed something a little more structured. We purchased the 20 visit Dayschool punch card and had Garrett as our dog's trainer. Garrett has been so amazing and patient with our girl. We just can't say enough nice things about this experience. Our dog is 100x much more compliant and well behaved which gives me such peace of mind, especially with the new baby. Our dog loves Garrett so much and is so excited everytime we pull up to the parking lot. She is on the more anxious side so this says a lot! Garrett has been wonderful with us humans too. He was great at communicating with us, was always professional, and was very reliable. We also appreciated how flexible he was with our irregular schedule. I have been taking my dog to The Animal Keeper for several months and she just loves it there. The facility is clean and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. When Zelda was ready for training I signed her up for a 20 day training program. Her trainer, Garrett, was patient and kind and made training fun for not just our dog but also us. Zelda learned all her basic obedience quickly and through positive reinforcement. It was well worth the time and money spent. Although Zelda is still an active and playful girl, she has become a lot easier to control and 100 percent more pleasant to take out in public places. Grooming experience was terrible. They wanted my dog there at 8:30 am, so we were there on time. Hadn't heard anything by 12:00 pm so I called. I was told they hadn't seen her yet they decided to groom another dog first. Then why be there at 8:30 am?? By 3:30 pm hadn't heard anything so I drove to the site. She said my dog was ready an hour ago, but no one called, why? They said they would. Over 7 hours at the site and I'm certain she didn't get any water or potty breaks. I know because when we got home, she didn't want to stop drinking water, she was super thirsty. And she had to pee real bad and peed for a long time. Terrible way to handle an animal. They lied to me and said she got water and breaks, I know my dog well and no way can I believe this. Lie to me and you have no credibility or integrity. There from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm for grooming???? Friendly staff who makes our sweet girl Layla feel welcome and at home. During the overnight stays we feel she has a good experience since she is excited to go when we drop her off. We like the options they offer also to either have playtime with other dogs or not. Layla would rather be around humans than other dogs so we have that option to add to her care evey day. I am so impressed by the level of service at this daycare. We have boarded our dog Tracer here a few times and every time our dog comes home 100% happy and tired from all the play. Recently our dog had an issue with some diarrhea, they immediately called me to ask about how Id like to modify her food so she will feel better. They gave her some sweet potato puree to calm her tummy and the staff members kept a close on her. The fact that they cared that much for even a smaller issue like that really blew me away. I have not used The Animal Keeper but I'm writing a review based on them as a prospective client. I thought I would be in need of last minute boarding for my dog and the conversation I had with the staff was wonderful. We have a friend that always watches our dog for us but they had an emergency home renovation that might have prevented them from being able to watch the dog. We were leaving for an out-of-state trip for the holidays beginning 12/24 and only had a couple days to find boarding for our dog. Many places were already booked for the holiday but the Animal Keeper had availability. I spoke to Danicka (spelling?) who spent more than 10 minutes on the phone with me answering all of my questions. She was very patient and accommodating. Luckily my friend was able to watch my dog after all. But next time I need boarding, I'll definitely be utilizing the Animal Keeper! read more

I came to this place because it was recommended to me. This place is a joke! I should have known when I dropped my fur babies off. When I was dropping them Off, I heard the trainor or the person watching the dogs at the playground area yelling at the dogs. That's definitely a red flag. The person at the counter was super nice. I asked for bath and deshed and sanitary trim around the private area and behind area. I specifically I asked for those services for my Huskies. I dropped them off before 9am and they were not ready until after 4pm. When I Picked them up, I was in a hurry. I paid and just left. When we got home, I hugged them and they did not smell good. They look Like nothing was done to them. Still so much hair. I take them to the groomer monthly so I know how they look and smell after. Then tonight I felt something round around one of my babies ears. Matted hair! How did they missed this if they actually gave them a bath and deshed? So what the heck did they do for 7 hours?!? I looked at my receipt and they charged me $130 for both of them. So clearly they did not do deshed. The guy at the counter said it'll be around 110 each. So he clearly knows I wanted bath and deshed. So where is the disconnect???? Shame on you guys!!! You wasted my time and money!!!! read more

Andy goes to daycare 1 day a week. He gets very excited when we get there and comes home happy and tired. Daycare is very important to us as he is a very social dog and has very little contact with other dogs the rest of the week. We love the Animal Keeper in Poway. My friend has told me great things multiple times. Georgia had a blast today! I saw her chewing up one of my plants on my Furbo camera after I had already gotten to work (I try to allow her to relax at home for a few hours while I'm gone). As soon as I saw what she was doing, I searched for daycares near me. I had no clue an Animal Keeper was so close by! I called and the front desk associate was excellent. She took down our information and told me they could have Georgia that same day. I left work to go pick up and drop off Georgia at the Animal Keeper. The front desk associate in person was excellent too (friendly, efficient, quick, knowledgeable). I was disappointed to hear the $40 day care cost as this is not competitive to competitors in the area. I've been able to daycare my pup for as low as $30 per day for a great experience. Would encourage to adjust prices soon as the Pandemic shut down is getting further behind us. After picking up Georgia, she was clearly so exhausted from playing all day. I felt comfortable knowing my girl was well taken care of while I was at work all day and my plant was able to stay safe back at home! read more

I've only used their grooming service, and I've been pleased every time. The staff is friendly and kind. I especially like how they handle my dog since he is meek and can be timid. I still don't know how they get my dog's ears so clean when he won't even let me get near them. My dog has never returned to me with "accidental cuts" on his body or in his ear from the grooming razors. The reason I mention this is because my friend took his dog to another grooming establishment, and he said that both of his dog's ears were cut inside! I couldn't believe it. I really think if you bring your dog here, it will be well taken care of. Ask for Karen, she's a great groomer. FYI: Just be specific w/what type of haircut you want. Trying to communicate exactly what you want is a problem with any groomer you go to. Also, they sometimes have great sales on their doggy toys and chews. read more

We brought our dog here a couple weeks ago. I thought I could let it go but I can't. Quality of groomers and customer service has gone way down. Have brought my dog in lots of times and had a good experience except the last 2 times with 2 different groomers. One cut my dogs ear and didn't inform us, and the other ear she got an infection in 2 days after grooming, vet said it was probably due to water and the way they pulled the hair out of her ear. We decided to try another groomer because we have had good cuts there before but she was horrible. My husband even showed her a picture for reference. Her head was barely trimmed and her body was shaved super short, very uneven. Some areas down to the skin other areas have tuffs of hair sticking out. She looks ridiculous. I called to let them know, was told a manager would be in touch and haven't heard from anyone. Very disappointed! read more

Where do I begin... From the suuuuper helpful, friendly staff (anyone think good customer service with a smile is very lacking these days??) to the facility itself, the verrrrry reasonable prices and great hours, it's been a godsend for this busy fur mama. I called them after seeing their website (after looking at and calling about a dozen places for my day care needs) and right away, I felt at ease and knew it was our day care. We have an 8 year old Frenchie and a 13 wk old Olde English Bulldogge we had just gotten and needed day cafe for her since I couldn't leave her at home yet due to not being potty trained yet. It would only be for a few hours that I needed help watching her since I wasn't about to leave her in her crate for 5 hours and Animal Keeper came to my rescue. Like most other places had said, the gal I spoke to on the phone said our puppy was still a little too young to put with the other dogs playing and in day care. I understood. Then she said since they weren't super swamped after the holidays, they could have it set up to a staff member would be with her one on one in her own room. Wow. I don't trust just anyone with my babies, never board them and have fired vets and groomers due to bad vibes and incompetence (). I leave my little girl with them, have peace of mind, go about my day and wow, I love that if she's there for 3 hours or less, it's half day price at $19. Most places I called didn't have half day prices or they were $30. I left my Frenchie and Olde English there one day and will do so again whenever my Frenchie gives me the ole guilt trip for leaving him home alone. I'm so glad I found this place!
