I have a little old man, who can be a little stubborn. (11years old). I used to take all my babies (ages 11, 10, and 8) to petsmart; but I noticed they would come home feeling more stressed out than usual - and with more clipper burn. So I decided to try a new spot for them because I'm an anxious moma. And I'm so glad I did!!!! They advised me on what would be less stressful for my little old man during the cut; and when I picked him up he was dozing off in his lil crate. He was sooooo much less stressed, and he had no clipper burns on him. He seemed way more happier here. So I will be taking all my babies here. Thank you so much for being so gentle and caring to my baby! read more

I had not taken Addie to CC until a month ago. What a pleasant surprise when Cheri actually remembered my previous cockapoo name (Sadie) which was over ten years ago. Addie, my 10 year old cockapoo has had allergy problems. Cheri was kind enough to give me advice which I took with great results. Another appointment is being set up. Thanks so much read more

Disappointed in the haircut. I went 3 times at this place and every time the haircut was uneven. Some areas longer than other. They seem more beginners than professional. read more

I don't know why this place doesn't have better reviews but my experience here was great! My Spencer has been groomed by Petco for the past 3 months that I have had him and I have been disappointed every time. Last night, my hubbie and I found a few fleas on him even though we use flea medication. In distress, we were desperate to find a groomer to give him a flea bath and haircut! Critter Cleaners did a wonderful job and the haircut was really even, considering Spencer is a wiggle worm. They even gave him a cute Thanksgiving themed bandana!! I was very happy with Critter Cleaners and will be back! read more

I am so delighted and happy with the service I got. My dog had pooped himself in his cage overnight and when I came downstairs at 7 am, I realized what had happened. I had to keep him outside because he's such a big dog that I couldn't immediately get him in my shower and didn't know what I was going to do. I was looking all over for a groomer who was open and wouldn't charge insane prices. I stumbled across Critter Cleaners on Google and the reviews seemed good enough so I called. She got me in right away when I told her my situation and I almost cried with how sweet she was to do that. The prices aren't insane and she finished in 2 hours to the tee! It was amazing. He's so clean and she gave him a haircut in all the places I said to (he has very very long butt fur that poop gets stuck in). They have my business forever! read more

This place should be shut down. I took my Yorkie in for a wash cut and trim the nails. Nothing fancy. She has always had a trim, her body short and her head just trimmed. When she came out to get my dog, it was so confusing and I didn't find time to give instructions. When I went to pick my dog up it was also confusing and rushed. We didn't notice what a horrible hair cut our dog had been given. Her ears that are normally left long, just trimmed the hair was hacked completely off. Her beard is normally trimmed and made even on both sides was hacked with at least a difference of a half inch. All around her neck was all hacked at different lengths. I've never seen such a hack job. NO I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE. I don't advise ANYBODY to go there. read more

I was hesitant to write this review. But after my last experience here, I felt compelled to write something. I've taken my dog here for several years now. Referred my family's pets too. But progressively, the grooming has gotten worse. There are several female groomers here and I won't name the girl we usually use. Few wks ago, I took my long hair dog to get groomed. It's been some time since he's been there so he had quite alot of knots in his hair. I told the groomer this and she said she would need more time to work on him. So i drop him off at 1030a and don't get him back until 2p or so. When i picked up my dog, i was horrified. It literally looked like she, or maybe an assistant or someone untrained, took a pair of buzzers and just sheared off his entire coat. She was saying he had too many tangles and knots in his coat and she didn't want to traumatize him by trying to work out the knots. Do you THINK you coulda called me beforehand? Why did it take almost 3-4 hrs for you to just buzz cut him and charge me $60+. I also agree w/ the other Yelper that said he didn't feel comfortable w/ the way ppl were treating the animals there. My dog became more and more nervous and agitated w/ every trip there. I'd say more but I'll leave it at that. So no, I will never be returning there and after my family saw my dog's haircut, they will never be back either. read more

Critter Cleaners - Best Place Ever 2 Get My Baby All Nice N Clean !!! - Pet Groomers Near Me - San Diego, California

Critter Cleaners is hidden is a small strip mall where Trader Joes is located in Mira Mesa. I love my Puffins more than anything... and what cat likes to have a bath?!? I came here about a year ago, when my cat had an accident in her carrier during my apartment move. With the hectic move, I forgot to limit her water intake that day, and by the end of the day, she couldn't hold it anymore. Poor baby, wet herself, and omgness... it was bad! I cleaned her up the best I could that night, but I had to take her for a bath the next day. I had been meaning to check out Critter Cleaners as I passed by there often when I went to Trader Joes. So this was the perfect time. Puffy is a lovable 13 lbs., with a gorgeous tuxedo fur coat.... And she smelled horrible after her accident! I scheduled my appt. with Laurie because she's the one that does the cat baths. The whole process would take about 3 hours, bath, nails, drying, etc. I'm sure bathing cats is an ordeal... with claws and all. It's a bit pricy, near $60, but completely worth it! I took Puffy home that day, and it was like she had walked out of the spa, super relaxed, clean, and refreshed and calm! I was so surprised, because I had just moved... and she was strutting around like everything was normal. (My last move took a week for her to adjust to her new environment.) It was bath time again for Puffy and she was long over due. It's a bit far from where I live now, and the price is a bit higher then I like it, but it's definitely a treat for Puffy. She smells amazing and she's a happy kitty, so that's all that matters. read more

Really really like the people here, they do a great job. My bosses dog was treated badly and cut up pretty bad by her old groomers, so my boss and I both researched groomers here in her area and found Critter Cleaners. SOOO happy with them!! They listened to everything I had to say( I'm like my bosses dog's second mom so I'm critical with people and her too like my boss is with people and her dog.) They have a file on Belle(the dog) and knew what we did last time on her and even discuss any changes, they are super sweet with Belle(she is shaky usually when coming to the groomers) They are just a really great groomers, good pricing and nice even hair cuts, just can't say Thank you enough to them. read more

There's a reason they are always booked. They are AMAZING! They only had a 6:30 pm appointment so I booked the place across street because they could take him right away - The guy called me 20 minutes later because he couldn't handle my dog! So we waited until 6:30 and I'm so glad we did. I brought in a rescued husky who had NEVER been groomed. Cheri was amazing. He looked like a different dog! My husband and I had adopted an older dog & had taken her to this place, two years ago. Being a dog owner and lover since I was a child, I wanted the best for our senior pet. I felt pretty confident about leaving her in the hands of this place after hearing few positive newspaper reviews. Not only disappointed, but questioned who wrote these reviews? The lady at the front desk was incredibly rude and bitter-- complaining that she had to "struggle" clipping our dogs nails, since she "moved so much"-- ever think that you could be hurting her? or maybe she just didn't feel comfortable? Not only was this woman unprofessional, she complained about doing her JOB and asked for a tip. Not only was our dog not properly groomed, her nails were chipped, rugged and she was miserable.. read more

Horrible! Took our 9 month old puppy to be groomed here for the first time. He has long hair and I told the lady that I just want half of the length trimmed. She took him from us right away and put him in the back and didn't even asked questions to verify what we really wanted. When my husband went in to pick him our puppy no longer looks like the puppy we dropped off. She totally shaved him and left him looking ridiculous! His cut around his face was totally uneven and ugly. She gave him a mullet, bangs, and a jaw line straight cut. When I went it after my husband paid $62, I told the lady that she cut his hair too short and all she said oh well I'm sorry. She was rude. She kept just shrugging her shoulders. I told her that I asked for his hair to be cut just half of the length and she said well I can't put his hair back. Well duh! You made a mistake and made my dog look ugly. She did such a horrible job. My dog no longer looks fluffy. She left his tail the way it was so you can see how long his hair was. He looks like a poodle with mullet. She was an older lady and I didn't get her name. This place is horrible because of her. My dog looks depressed because of what she did to my poor Simba. So unprofessional! We reached out via Facebook and no one replied but the message was opened and viewed. read more

This place is about 5 minutes from my house and it is absolute chaos on the weekends. I took the bulldogs there over the weekend and the woman was a bit rude. The dog came out clean though and they did not over trim his nails. 30 bucks to do this per dog. I guess this is the going rate these days. This is just a dog groomer not a boutique. I've been taking my Saint Bernard here for the past couple of months and have been thrilled with the results. I've been to three or four groomers and Critter Cleaners gets my vote. They are friendly, clean, excellent groomers, and can get my dog in and out in just over an hour. All of the groomers are great. My review from 2 years ago was removed. Maybe I was a little too honest and angry? I literally hate this place enough to rewrite a new review just so people will realize how horrible this place is! Please, if you have had good experiences with these rude, egotistical people, go ahead and continue coming here. I'm sure there are some good experiences for these people not to be shut down and out of business like they deserve. My parents are Asian, Chinese to be exact. Yeah, their English is far from perfect, my dad's hearing is getting worse each year, so this encounter was especially frustrating. I have a little 11 pound Lhasa Apso mix, and every time we take him to the groomers we just get him shaved because he has this very, very cottony fine fur that gets matted like no other. Pretty simple. They shave the body, trim the ears and tail and face. Very standard for small long-haired dogs. My dad tries to explain this to the lady at the front, who was rude from the start, and she keeps cutting him off saying, "I know, I heard you the first 2 times" and "Yeah I get it, okay" basically brushing him off. My dad LOVES our little boy, as any owner would understand, and he was just making sure our dog would get the best service. This lady was so unbelievably rude and obnoxious, and with the fans and hairdryers and whatnot going on in the background, nobody could really hear anything. It's basic customer service, lady. Don't. Be. A. Bitch. The customer is always right, unless they're really clearly not. All he was doing was trying to clarify what cut we wanted. Calm your freaking tits, we're paying you money, we're supporting your business, stop being so mean. We finally get him back and they didn't even tell us they had cut his nails way too short and made him bleed. We got home and there's blood tracks all over the floor where he's walked, which is obviously terrifying. His fur was completely choppy and chunky and poorly cut. All in all, a bad cut, and my dog was miserable and exhausted the rest of the day. The room is also insanely hot, all the dogs in there are panting and it was just so sad to leave him in there. It was also really expensive, especially because of the quality of the employees. Seriously, these people are just bad bad bad. These poor animals look miserable too. Something's just wrong with this business, and it's probably due to these ladies. I recommend going to the Animal Salon in Rancho Penasquitos. Consistent cuts and much nicer people. read more

I have heard that if you don't pay yelp they will pepper your section with bad reviews and not list the good ones. But still here's a shot at reviewing. We love Critter Cleaners! I used to go to Petco and Petsmart and I enjoyed them as well but Critter Cleaners offers more for the price. I have a Golden Retriever/Lab mix and she is so excited to see the groomers and they treat her like royalty. I've never seen them mistreat an animal or customer. Summer shakes her whole body when she sees them. I have always received not only excellent customer service but FRIENDLY customer service. I live about 6min away from Petco and about 15 min from Critter Cleaners but they are so wonderful that I'm willing to drive the additional distance to patronize them. When I pick Summer up she is clean, soft, well brushed and her coat is silky smooth, tangle free and well trimmed. She could be a poster girl for Goldens. I love that they also give every dog a scarf and a toy at Christmas. If you request a bow they will give you the most awesome blinged out bow ever. Most of all I notice when they groom her she remains soft and clean for well over a week. Petco's grooming only seemed to look good for about 3-4 days. That was great but this is wow! The cages are stacked yes but if you look behind the curtain at Petco and Petsmart you may find that as well. If you pick your dog up on time this shouldn't be an issue unless they've never been crated before. Not a big deal and I always pick up my girl on time. read more

Instead she asked if I wanted to come back another day! Ummm No! Who knows if I would have come back she would have done the same thing again! Save your time and go somewhere else! read more

I don't understand the poor reviews. I've had my dog done at Petsmart, at Snug and here, and I prefer here. They do a good job. Snug has better PR but doesn't treat the dog any better, and Petsmart is terrible. All are about the same price and CC does the best job for the price. I think sometimes people judge dog accommodations by human standards. Your dog is as happy in a small kennel in the open for three hours as he is in a larger area with the same small kennel hidden from view. Critter Cleaners has always done right by me and my dog and I have no complaints. read more

Convenient and fast they had an appointment and promised a time they delivered. My dog was shaved and groomed really great. Would recommend

Cindy Johnson has been grooming my toy poodle for over 10 years now. She does an amazing job! If you are in need of pet sitting, I HIGHLY recommend calling her. Cindy and her Great Dane, Batman, treat my dogs like family when they stay with her. Even though all four of the dogs I've had were small breeds, Batman is super gentle and even lets my poodle sleep on top of him! Her rates are very reasonable, especially when you take into account the ultra-personalized care they will be receiving. I cannot sing her praises enough; my babies get to stay in her home and there is plenty of space outside for my hyperactive min pin to run to her hearts content. Now that my senior dog has a special diet and needs medication, I can still trust that she will be getting the same care I would give at home. Whenever I'm not able to bring my dogs while traveling, having Cindy pet sit is the next best thing! As far as grooming, everyone in the shop is awesome, friendly, and great with the animals. I've never had a dog that wasn't happy to see them. The kennels are always clean and someone's always got an eye on the animals; it's not unusual to hear the groomers talking to them and calming them, whether on the grooming table or just waiting for their owner. They can take care of everything from complicated cuts (my poodle was in the continental style for years, and Cindy's work always garnered compliments and awes) to a simple wash and nail trim. TL;DR Cindy Johnson does an amazing job whether it's in home pet sitting or grooming! Highly recommend!! read more

I took my pomeranian here for the first time yesterday and safe to say that I will never be taking her here again! They cut her hair so horribly that it looks like she is missing a part of her head because the haircut wasn't even close to being even. I just moved to Mira Mesa and stumbled upon this place when I was walking from where I parked my car to Trader Joe's. I have a pit bull that I bathe and brush myself, but I noticed that her ears got really dirty and I am too afraid to clean my dogs ears myself so I was actually looking for a dog groomer in the area. I walked up to see what their hours of operation were just as an employee was closing the doors for the day. She introduced herself as Laura and asked what my pet needs. She told me that she would be more than happy to take care of my pit bull, and to just bring my dog in the next morning and she will clean her ears right there and then, as it is a quick procedure. I came back the next day with my pit bull, and Laura recognized me right away and came out to get to know my dog. My dog usually is a little timid and plops down on the ground when someone else tries to take her leash, but she followed Laura right along, ignoring the loud yapping from all the small dogs in the stacked cages on the left hand side of the establishment. The ear cleaning was very quick, and we were in and out of there in 10 minutes (if even that). I do agree with one of the reviewers that it is like a sauna inside--very hot (only one fan was going in the middle of the room) and the dogs did not have water bowls in the cages. Overall, Laura was very friendly, and since my dog requires procedures that are quick and do not require being held in a cage, I would definitely return and have Laura take care of my pet. Although satifised with the service, I gave this place 3 stars because I have never taken my pet to a groomer before (her ears are usually cleaned at the vet) so I have no other business to compare this place with, and because of the dogs being in stacked cages in a hot room that was kept from being even more hot by a single fan. read more
