Was eating nearby and decided to stop in to see if I can find something for my pup. There was a lot of stuff and it seems like a nice one-stop-shop for all your pup needs. I was pretty disappointed to see many of the same pup toys and supplies that you can find anywhere else, but for a higher price. The outfits they had were cute, but I couldn't justify paying $50 for a shirt (and yes, that's more than I would pay for myself). The woman that was working wasn't very friendly and looked like she would rather jump off a cliff than be there. Not encouraging, but I still decided to buy my pup a cookie. I didn't realize until he couldn't eat it that it was actually rock hard. He tried licking the frosting off, but I don't think he liked it because he barely had any. I was extremely disappointed. You wouldn't serve old/stale food to humans, so why would you do that for pups? Should've gone with my gut and not bought anything from here. read more

Doggie Style Pets is a cute little boutique pet store/pet groomer in Little Italy. I checked their website and they are a small-ish chain with 10 locations in Philadelphia, two in New Jersey in addition to the Little Italy location in San Diego. We were walking back to our car after a delicious breakfast at The Waterfront Bar and Grill when we happened by Doggie Style so we popped in. We're suckers when it comes to our two dogs Ozzy and T.J. They are two very spoiled girls! A few steps into the store was a big display of homemade (organic, I think) dog cookies. They were made with all natural ingredients such as sweet potato. We picked up two each for the doggos. Two Halloween themed and two ice cream themed, a cone and a bar. When we arrived home the dogs sniffed out the treats right away. Ozzy is a smaller dog with small teeth so we like to break her treats into smaller pieces. Holy crap! The Haloween dog bone cookies were hard as rocks! I had to chop them with a knife and it took some effort! T.J. is a big dog so she had no problem devouring hers. I can't speak to the grooming, but the variety of treats, toys and accessories for pets was impressive. This review is only regarding their adoption process. Passed by the store on14Jan25 and saw a dog up for adoption. I decided to adopt him and completed the application and the the manager asked if she could keep the dog for another night so she can say goodbye. I said yes and we agreed for me to pick up the next day and pay the adoption fee. On 15Jan25, I get a call from a store clerk (not the manager) telling me that the dog is sick and would not be able to be adopted today. They proceeded to provide additional requirements which included 1) meeting my other dogs and 2) doing a home visit. These requirements were not discussed the prior night but agreeing when I could officially adopt him. Very frustrating as I had bought food and scheduled a vet visit (to adhere to their 5-day vet visit post adoption). If the manager is responsible for adopting out pets on behalf of Baja Rescue and has her own requirements for adoption, these requirements should have been identified up front before agreeing on a time to pick up the dog. I believe the manager had no intention of actually letting me adopt of dog as she also mentioned she had thought about adopting the dog herself. Maybe overnight she regretted it and is making it difficult for me to officially adopt the dog. What a shame! read more

The new owner is unprofessional and took no responsibility for the repeated scheduling errors. The Groomer, Gabby, has been there for quite some time and does a good job. I have been getting my golden doodle groomed here for the last 9 or so months and ever since ownership changed/groomers left the service has not been the same. My dog got a very bad groom and I brought him back in to get it corrected, it was not corrected and when I asked about a refund the owner said "she's not going to return, so she doesn't need a refund". It was a very odd experience and he's right, I will not return. It's a shame they practice business in this way. I have even walked their foster dogs before! Do not go here. read more

I have been going to Doggie Style Pets in Little Italy for years to get my pet bathed and the cost was $35. Not so long ago new management / owner bought the business and I have not been happy about the last several visits. The groomer is fine, not great like the previous groomer (Gabby). However, I like to support local businesses so I continued to go. However, over the last two visits I have been very disappointed with their lack of transparency regarding costs. I always ask for the premium bath for my dog and recently they asked if I would like his claw clipped or dremelled. I chose the later. When it came time to check out they told me that the premium bath was $40 and the dremel was $15 extra. That did not sit well with me. I feel that I should have been notified when they made the offer. The last time I went in they told me that the cost of the bath was $45. The owner pointed to the sign which indeed showed a new cost. How can the price go up 2x in 3 weeks? Finally I returned to get my shampoo that I stored there and told an associate that I was annoyed and she said that she would notify the owner. I never received any kind of response from her. That's it, I'm done! I believe in full transparency and customer service. Good luck Doggie Style! read more

They did a great job grooming my dog Lincoln. We did a premium bath with nail grinding and furminator add ons and he looked great when he came back. Lincoln typically gets scared to get his nails done, but they said he did a great job. Lincoln also has skin allergies and sensitive skin. They were more than open to using the medicated shampoo I have for him. They called also to confirm that I was okay with them using the furminator shampoo, which I hadn't even thought about! I really appreciated them asking. It just shows their attention to detail, which I definitely appreciate. We will be sure to come back soon! read more

Please don't offer your business to this establishment, it's likely that it will result in additional vet costs. I'm writing this review as a second time customer of Doggie Style Grooming. I have a toy poodle that requires specific grooming to keep him healthy & happy. Given they are groomers, I had the expectation that their services would accommodate my pets needs, this is the second time that my simple expectation had not been met. It breaks my heart that my dog left in a condition far worse than he was dropped off in. For context, for 2 weeks after his appointment he was not acting like his usual happy self. My dog is 1.5 years old and usually presents with tons of energy and he loves to go on walks. The dog that I picked up from the groomers was not the same dog I had dropped off. For example: * He wanted to exclusively be held * He was deathly afraid of the floor * He had so much difficulty sitting * No desire to go on walks Symptoms were so severe that it required a stressful trip to the vet. The vet recommendation was hundreds of dollars worth of testing to confirm the conditions that resulted from taking my dog to this groomer. These were bills that I was not prepared to spend, I love my dog and would anything for them, but I should have had to. I kindly reached out to the "CEO and President" with my concerns via email and to my disappointment I was met with a response that absolutely negated the health and condition my dog was returned to me in. The owners response was so transactional, he even went as far as to say that it was neglect from my end. He said he reviewed footage and made his own judgment that their was no wrong doing, which is quite hard to trust because I know my dog. Bottom line, my main concern is the health and happiness of my dog! No one should feel apprehensive about bringing their dog to a groomer, and unfortunately you will have to tread lightly here. read more

Doggie Style is near us and seemed like a good convenient option to take our pup, Zelda, for her monthly grooming. She is not a small pup but is a sweetheart. Grooming her is an event with all of that fluff. My b'f used them a couple of times this year and they did do a good job grooming her. I don't think they were as thorough brushing out her long fur as other groomers though. Zelda was also terrified when we got even close to the shop; she still does months later if we are in the area. She starts shaking like crazy and pulling in the opposite direction. We had an appointment to get her groomed for her birthday in July and I was iffy about the appointment because of the employee's response when I booked it. She was hesitant and seemed to not want to make the appointment (so after I booked the appointment I started looking for new groomers). It was a good thing I did because less than an hour before her scheduled appointment in July we received a call that their groomer quit and they cancelled the appointment. The person was pretty rude about it, too. She didn't try to offer us a new appointment. She didn't even suggest a discount on our next visit or for food/toys/supplies. She just hung up. I try to support local, small businesses but after this I couldn't be bothered going back to them for any reason. Note: City Dogs is who we went to after Doggie Style flaked on us. They do a great job and the staff were responsive, helpful, and did a fantastic time. They even gave us a report on how she did. The haircut turned out cute!!!...But then after a few days I realized he had been trying to scratch underneath his collar. I took it off and he had a close shave down to no fur and a WOUND. I understand animals move when they get groomed no problem but the fact that the groomer did not notify me my dog's neck was bleeding sends big red alarms. This place is a special spot that's part of the neighborhood fabric. My pup and I, and many others, love to come in almost every day to say hello to the awesome staff and rescue dogs that are up for adoption. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable, kind, and all truly love dogs (and cats! but they don't come in as often haha). The store stocks all sorts of worthwhile and interesting products, food and otherwise. Lots of people come in from out of town too, and comment on what a great store it is. There's such a warm and welcoming vibe. It's also admirable that the staff juggles so many roles, since this is a retail store, but they're also taking care of the rescues' needs throughout the day, and running the business side of the grooming services. I've been in literally hundreds of times and seen thousands of happy people getting what they wanted and needed, with smiles and jovial interactions all around. Then on here I read some of the negative reviews and personally I'm surprised at the things people are complaining about, or expect discounts for... like an unopened bag of treats because some are crushed?? Saying they had 10 great experiences but one that wasn't great and giving 1-star? Technical hiccups after switching appointment scheduling software? I've been in store on more than one occasion when people showed up late for grooming appointments and the staff still tried to accommodate them. read more

I love my current groomer but am searching for one who is close to where I live in Little Italy. Discovered this place won't groom dogs who are 12+ years old. I have a very healthy 2 and 11.5 year old Maltese dog (12lbs each). This groomer required that they personally review all vet records for just the 11.5 year old and then they will let me know if they are willing to groom her or will recommend a vet for her to see (Definitely do not need vet advice from a groomer). In 6 months, they won't consider grooming her as she will be 12. She's a small breed who is very healthy and goes for 3 walks a day, she's not dying anytime soon. Clearly they have been sued for something that happened to a senior dog who was under their care, as ALL dog owners know that full medical records for a groomer, isn't a typical request. It just doesn't make sense otherwise when you consider the fact that (1) Dogs can have major health issues at any age, and (2) It's easy to lie about a dogs age to them. I now understand why a grooming salon in the middle of Little Italy, a place where the majority of people have the type of dogs that need groomed, has soooooo many open appointments each day/right away. Such a bummer, I would have loved to find a good groomer a few minutes from my home. read more

The grooming prices are very reasonable ($15 for nail grind, $10 for clip)and they have the biggest, funniest selection of bandanas for dogs, including special cooling bandanas for hot days. I unfortunately did not have a good experience with this groomer. After reading great reviews on yelp, I called and made an appointment to have my dog groomed nearly two weeks out. The lady took my info and asked me to bring in my rabies certificate when I brought him in. The groomer called me two times this past week to confirm my appointment. When I arrived this afternoon for the grooming appointment, they saw that my dog was 14 years old on the rabies cert. They turned him away and said they do not groom dogs older than 12 and suggested that dogs his age get groomed at veterinarian clinics. I have never heard of such a thing. This store saved me! I order high-quality food for my dog on a subscription service and screwed up my dates so I was going to run out before my next shipment. This was the only store that popped up in search for a place to buy the same food in San Diego. New doggy spa salon and store in town I've taken my doggo there twice and So far I'm very happy. I actually love the option that you can pick and choose some services so if your dog doesn't need them then you don't need to add those services, very simple. Rachel has been grooming him and she's been amazing my dog is a little different so he requires some extra attention and they've been really good with him and I also really appreciate the fact that one time I couldn't come pick him up right away and they were so nice and accommodating and did not give me a hard time because I left him a little longer than expected so kudos.
