Love that this Petco location has a self washing station that's pretty spread out and roomy. The tubs are low enough that my big boy can get into without any issues! The prices are fair for what you get but the blow dryer was awful! It barely had any air coming out of it! I did try to test a 2nd dryer and it was the same unfortunately. This was by far the worst dog grooming experience I have ever had. Before this visit, I always took my dog to petsmart where he was handled with care and always came back calm, comfortable, and professionally groomed. Unfortunately, I decided to try petco and I deeply regret it. What I received was a stressed dog with an uneven, poorly done haircut that looks completely unprofessional. Even worse, his paws were handled so badly that they were left irritated, inflamed, and clearly painful. This is not about personal preference or grooming style. This is about negligence and lack of basic care. After the appointment, my dog was visibly distressed for hours, shaking and constantly licking his paws, something he had never done before. I have photos from Pet smart and photos from Petco for comparison. The difference in quality, care, and professionalism is shocking. If I could leave zero stars and still submit a review, I would. This was one of the most inconvenient customer service experiences I've had. I purchased a Zoo Med Desert Kit (10 Gallon) for $99.99 plus tax, but unfortunately it was not suitable for the reptile I ended up buying, so I attempted to return it. When I arrived at the store, a very polite employee (whose name I unfortunately can't recall) began assisting me. Since I did not have the receipt, she used my driver's license to look up the purchase and requested manager approval. The manager approved the return, and everything seemed to be proceeding normally. However, I was then moved to another register because the first register did not have enough cash to process the refund. At the second register, another employee made an unprofessional comment suggesting I was "lucky" the return was being attempted. After further delays, the staff contacted the General Manager, Humberto, who initially stated over the phone that no refund or store credit could be processed. After nearly an hour of waiting, he arrived in person and denied the return--even though it had already been approved by the manager on duty. He then stated that the store has a strict policy on no-receipt returns and claimed that the location does not even sell this tank. When I asked to speak with someone higher, he said there was no one above him. For a company as large and established as Petco, it's disappointing that a simple $99.99 return could not be resolved after so much time was spent in the store. We recently got a Bearded Dragon and have needed feeder bugs for her. We Picked up some Super worms and some Dubia Roaches at our local Petco. There is an easy to grab display right when you walk in that makes it super easy. The staff is always helpful and the store is kept very clean and organized. The girl would not let me make a simple purchase without me giving her my phone number. Only when I asked if I would be allowed to make my purchase or I had to leave without the item, she grudgingly went through with the check out. She was extremely unpleasant and insistent. I felt coerced. It might be PetCo's policy to try and collect customer's info, but I am against data collection for marketing purposes. So, though it's ok to ask, they should not try to coerce people to give their phone number if they don't wish to. If I say no, it means NO. Please, stop harassing people for your marketing! Went to the store to exchange the item and was met with the rudest customer service ever. I asked if I could just make the exchange as the item was the same cost as the incorrect one. This is the nicer Petco/PetCoach I have been in. The Grooming Salon is to the right of the main store entrance. The register to checkout is conjoined to the counter with the groomers, so someone will be with you shortly if you are waiting. This One of the groomers named Cameron is the BEST! Cameron is the type of person that you can tell loves her job because of how warm and welcoming she is. You leave feeling at ease that your furry friend is in good hands! She is very meticulous of what needs to be done and any notes you may have for her, she will happily do and will remember for next time! Cameron will give you a heads up call with 15 minutes left of your dogs' appointment. My dog has been groomed by her around 5 times this past year and he always leaves so happy! Huge appreciation shout out to VetCo inside our local Poway Rd PetCo. They are staffed with assistants who love working with animals and three veterinary doctors who are amazing at caring for our pets. We had our Dobie (Stiggy) in for an abscessed tooth where his face had really swelled up. They scheduled the X-rays and did a thorough examination where it was found that the same tooth on the other side was also starting to abscess. They took both out at a very reasonable cost and kept him for observation for four hours after the surgery to be sure he was ready to go home. No rushing him out the door. When we picked him up he was loopy from the anesthesia, but super clean and stitched perfectly. They gave us fantastic post op info and pain meds with antibiotics and he's nearly fully recovered in less than 24 hours. They also have a form of pet insurance that saved us a significant amount of money. Fantastic A++ service and quality of care! THANK YOU VETCO! read more

Their pet wash station is not the best due to the low water pressure from the hose. I know other Petco's that have the dog wash isn't like this. The staff also feels unorganized when setting you up with the dog wash. Separately, anothe day I walked in to ask if they had time to do a quick nail trim for my maltipoo. They said no but then just five minutes later while I was still in the store by the register, another lady walked in with a medium/large sized dog and asked for a nail trim and I heard them accomodate her. I was going to say something but didn't want to waste my energy with asking why they were able to accomodate her but not me? Just weird. Not the best experience from a Petco and I would rather just take my dog elsewhere for service. read more

I first want to start with the positive. The veterinary care is excellent. They are kind, efficient and reasonably priced. However, the grooming is marginal at best. Last time, it took them 5 hrs to complete our little Shih-Zhu's grooming and it was a terrible cut. It was also way over priced, I am planning now to take our dog to another groomer. Also how are they asking you to tip the groomer without even bringing your dog out and being able to inspect the services performed. This location is completely useless. The first time I called I asked them if it was okay to bring my dog even though he had a skin infection and had itched himself to the point where he was bleeding. (Shelter dog I had just adopted and it was taking some time to figure out his body). They assured me it was fine. My roommate drove half an hour there just for them to say the cut was too big and they can't do the bath. Complete waste of time. But fine, the cut was too big. I spend a month at home giving him 2 baths a week, antibiotics etc. I fixed his skin! Now I have to upkeep. I call the second time. They have him on file now because that day they did give him a nail trim. They set up the appointment for me a WEEK in advance. 2 minutes before I step inside I get a call that she recognized my dogs name and they can't take him. She tells me the receptionist made a mistake. Really? You left no notes on his profile? You didn't tell my roommate after the initial visit? And you saw his appointment for a whole week? I bring this up and she says I can bring him inside for them to check to check his body. I bring him in, she pets him all over his body and can't find a single cut and now changes her reason. She tells me he couldn't stand up during the nail clipping last time so she doesn't think he'll stand for the bath this time. Which is NOT TRUE. At home I give him medical baths (where the skin shampoo has to soak for 10 minutes before rinse) and he stands the WHOLE TIME, these are like 30 minutes baths too. And she didn't mention any of this at the end of the appointment last time.... Wasted my time, gas, and energy twice. If you don't like your job, just quit. I had to put down my sixteen year old Shiatzu last week. The staff at Petco made everything ready for our arrival. The room was such a peaceful space with ambience I would compare to the bridge to Heaven. They were all so caring and compassionate. Dr. Moran offered us privacy and all the time we needed to send our little Brutus on his way to his next mission. He was a service dog to four of our family members and they treated him with the utmost respect imaginable. I would only use their dog wash area if you have no other choice. Expensive and they give you the worlds worst retired dish rags to dry your dog with. They are soaked with an ounce of water, dirty and full of holes. Staff are extremely nice and pleasant. Place is clean and water is warm. read more

PetCoach is the same company as Petco but it was just rebranded a few years ago. I've come by to shop for pet food & also for grooming services. If there are any Petco promotions, this location will honor them too. For grooming, their services & price list are all online. Nail trim & buff is $10. Anal gland expression is $10. Self serve doggie wash station is $15 per visit. You must bring your dog's proof of rabies vacc when you arrive. For some grooming services, your dog has to be recently bathed. I had my dog's nails trimmed & buffed, teeth cleaned, ears cleaned (they use an all natural peppermint & tea tree oil), and anal glands expressed (exterior only). It was called the "Mini Makeover" package and it cost $25. As a first timer here, I watched the groomer do her thang through the glass window. I would say everything went well but the dental cleaning was just so-so. They try to stick their gloved fingers into the dog's mouth & as reflex, the dog kinda squirms & tries to to bite down. The groomer tried her best but honestly I felt like she didn't even touch my dog's teeth (not her fault, it's just they aren't equipped to do teeth cleanings imo). Overall, I was happy with the grooming. I called to make my appt because they had no openings via the online system, but when I called, they were able to take me same day! read more

Booked a grooming appointment well in advance for my tiny senior baby. Filled out all of the necessary paperwork beforehand, brought in certification of vaccines, etc. When I was asked if my dog had any underlying health issues that should be known about, I mentioned that he has frequent coughing spells and not to be alarmed in thinking it is something contagious - he has a collapsed trachea, which is very common in smaller, older dogs. The groomer told me that Petco cannot take dogs with collapsed tracheas. Never in any of the paperwork I filled out prior to the appointment, nor from the person who called me with the reminder of my appointment, did they detail this to me and/or mention what health concerns would prevent a dog from being able to be groomed. I take my dog to be groomed professionally all of the time at various locations and this has never been an issue. Furthermore, I guess they made a note of my dog's condition on my Petco account so I am literally "blocked" from taking him to any other Petco. This was so truly disappointing and sad; he's so mellow and quiet - my poor baby couldn't get a haircut and I drove from over 30 minutes away. Update: lots of turn over. Doesn't have the same vibe anymore. I take my daycare and boarding and training to Paw Paradise now. Membership has gotten more expensive and so has the self wash. Which is fine. Money has to be made somewhere. So it's just a Petco now w self wash. UPDATE: 7 months later and I am disappointed they closed the doggy daycare. If it was financial, I am sure me and the doggy parents would be okay paying more because it was such a good deal to begin with. The vets are there and still excellent. They have changed the membership programs as well. They are new for the area and a totally new concept. So many some of the associates are new and are still learning the ropes of the offerings and systems. I think the concept is fantastic. Vet, groomers, bathing station for just 2 dollars per wash. (Totally unheard of!) and doggy day care all onsite. I can also pick up the just for dogs food which is an awesome cooked food for dogs instead of going all the way to Del Mar. I love the daily report cards I get from the day care and how in tune they are w the dogs. Captain is always excited to go there. Love love love this place. Lovely location. Upon entering I had never been to this store before. It was very clean and well organized despite the 8 dog owners infront of me. Walked in to do a quick nail trim and was happy that they offered walk in services. $15.00 nail trim and buff which is such a great deal. Wonderful store with great clothes for pups, food items, reptilian section and medicine etc. This store offers grooming, self service grooming, animal hospital services before 5pm on weekends and dog training. I'm so grateful for this Petco in Poway. I've always been able to find what I need and receive courteous assistance. I bought the Reddy dog bed from Petco because it is said to be sturdy and built to last. I bought it in the latter part of October, and now here I am in January with a dog bed that a 5-month-old puppy has ruined. If your dog enjoys biting, do not suggest this bed. It's a shame the dog bed is so pricey. Since his hands are tied at the retail level, Noah the manager was very gracious to point me in the direction of the corporate customer service line. They are limited to helping with purchases made within 30 days. When I called corporate, I received the same response. Since I didn't buy anything online, they had no alternatives. I have been here twice and I have been impressed both times. The first time I just popped in when passing by & the store set up enticed me to come in. This pet store is set up so nicely. It's open & easy to navigate through. They have stations where you can wash your dogs, daycare, a vet, the cutest accessories for your pets, all sorts of treats & pet food. One thing I really liked was all the organic & ethically sourced pet foods. This "upscale" version of Petco is a waste of space. When they opened I joined their (pay to join) customer loyalty club. They failed to honor any of the promised benefits. I let it go and gave them a second chance and brought my 3 dogs to be groomed. They refused to groom my elderly poodle because she had cancer, but gave me a hard sell to leave the other two. This Petco is a much smaller store. The layout is very different from the store we try to avoid in Mira Mesa. This store is nice. Products are easy to find but most importantly, the staff. Walked my dog today, she was getting a bit hot, we stopped at the Petco Poway store and asked for water. A Big, tall employee took me all the way to the the back aisle and showed me water bowls for purchase! Really! We took our sweetheart Frenchie into petcoach to have amass removed from her leg, her teeth cleaned and two teeth pulled. Dr. Day the veterinarian did a phenomenal job removing the leg mass. Precise stitches administered. No major swelling at all from the teeth that was pulled. Veterinarian gave us sedatives to give to our franchise in case of discomfort. She did not even need them at all. We appreciate the communication the staff gives during the day stay while recovering. Dr. Day and his staff truly care about the patients and it shows by the way they great the pets and get to know them. read more

I was very disappointed in the new change to this Petco and I'll only be back to get a refund for our dog's food. - 1. We waited for almost 10 ten minutes to check out. Nobody else was called up to help with checkout (we were the only ones in line) and the employees seemed completely unconcerned with us waiting for so long. They were more concerned with chatting about a dog's name and calling other employees over than actually help a paying customer. -2. It is not a welcoming environment. It's empty and almost sterile feeling. - 3. Your Petco Pals reward doesn't work so no points are accrued nor do Petco coupons work. We had a $10 off a $30 purchase and our dogs food is typically $50 for a 28 pound bag. But nope, couldn't use it OR the PetCoach price so we paid over $60! - 4. I looked through the window of their pet daycare and there were two dogs, both just following each other around. It doesn't seem like an environment which dogs enjoy. -5. We spent $60 on the big bag of Natural Balance and upon leaving started researching over stores to buy this from because I knew we weren't going to go back there. Amazon offered it for $21 with a subscription!!!! That's a no-brainer! We will be seeking out a new pet store or a normal Petco / Unleashed for further purchases. This change is just ridiculous. Little critters are livin it up at this Petco. The store is super clean and takes good care of its animals. My kids love looking at all the little pets like fish, birds, reptiles, and hamsters. The store keeps the living conditions very clean and that makes me happy for the animals. Sometimes this store seems understaffed and it takes a while to get help in the aisles, especially in the fish section. Not a big deal since I can tell the animals come first here. read more
