My dog skipper had a large mass on his hind leg and it was growing. After contacting several vets, their answer was skipper was too old for the surgery (13). I didn't give up and I was extremely fortunate to find Petco and Dr. Bacon. who after examining Skipper concluded he was Ok for the surgery. Skipper survived and he had several post surgical visits. Two months later Skipper is living up to his name (jumping nonstop). Dr Bacon and his staff were excellent. read more

I stopped by the Petco on N. McDowell Blvd today and left with mixed feelings. The customer service was wonderful--the young lady at the checkout register was incredibly friendly, courteous, and pleasant to deal with. Unfortunately, the same cannot be used to describe the cleanliness of the store. The floors and fixtures are in desperate need of a deep clean. There are thick build-ups of grime and dirt on the floor tiles, heavy layers of dust, cobwebs, and debris gathered under the shelves, and clumps of loose pet hair drifting down the aisles. Even the bottom of the "JustFoodForDogs" freezer unit had noticeable grime running down the front vent. I want to support our local pet stores, but walking through such neglected aisles makes for an uncomfortable shopping experience. The front-end staff is doing great, but management really needs to step up the store's basic housekeeping and sanitation. read more

Really disappointed that after taking my dog to petco grooming after 3 years and 15 haircuts later I was told he wasn't a good fit for petco and I was blocked from making reservations at all petcos. Strangely I went into petco in santa rosa they met my dog and I am a gold member again with a happy dog and a new stylist. Thanks petco petaluma for not realizing dogs have bad days and sometimes there are better solutions than marking my little dog as a vicious animal on a computer screen not realizing the impact on my dogs health since I had no groomer lined up. read more

My dog was refused nail trim services by Leah the Grooming Services Leader, because I truthfully disclosed that my dog has a heart murmur. When I asked to see the policy, Leah originally claimed that she didn't have access to the policy to show me but that she, "just knows it" and that it was at her discretion. I was able to obtain the policy from another employee (see attached). Leah then tells me she has taken it upon herself to enforce this policy as the new Grooming Services Leader. However, she failed to note the beginning sentence of the policy she claims to be enforcing which contradicts her assertion. The beginning of section 5. of the Grooming Safety Policy reads, "Any pet that appears ill at the time of check in must be turned away until the pet is healthy or has vet approval for services." Despite my dog's condition, he is perfectly healthy and was being playful in the store when I visited. Leah insinuated that I must have lied to get services in the past. I told her that I have taken my doggy here for years and this has never been an issue, and his condition had been noted in his profile. She looked it up but instead of acknowledging the information was correct she just walked away from the desk. I asked her, "what if I hadn't disclosed his condition?" Leah said, "then we would have provided services". Since we were interpreting the policy differently, I requested to speak to the General Manager Mary to sort it out. Leah attempted to dissuade me from speaking to the GM saying, "she will just agree with me". I insisted on speaking with her. Once the GM Mary arrived, I handed her the policy printout where section 5 was highlighted and asked her to read it. In a very condescending tone she asked, "can you not read?" I clarified that I was asking for her understanding of the policy. The issue was not resolved, and my doggy did not get his nails trimmed. This Petco branch clearly has a toxic culture of dishonesty, mismanagement, and corrupt & arbitrary application of policy. Their rudeness and unprofessionalism make me never want to go there again and caution others to avoid the place. read more

I really like Petco and the employees are nice to deal with. Yes this location is a small store but it does have a variety of items, birds, fish, the occasional chincilla, etc. It even has veterinary service which I have not used yet & that's mainly because I've been utilizing my current vet for over 20+ years & have no complaints. I would come in periodically to purchase treats and toys for my dog especially when I was going to TJ's next door. Last year I saw that they offered pet training & decided to sign up for 2 sessions (a general session & then a little more advanced) for my dog who was 4 years old. He needed a little more training especially when it comes to his recall as basically it's non-existent (what can I say, he's a Dachshund mix & Dachshunds are stubborn, pig headed & refuse to do recall even after learning it)....in other words he's your typical Dachshund. He did very well with all of the different aspects of his training, having treats that he liked was a good motivator for him, & his recall was good. I paid for two 6 week sessions and it was very reasonably priced. In our first session there were 2 other large dogs, 1 older and 1 younger & they all got along good. The trainer was Kyle & Rocko responded very favorably to him. Rocko's second 6 week session was a one-on-one session as no other dogs were signed up for our time slot. Again, Kyle was great, we worked on various things inside the store as well as outside the store on the sidewalk out front and walking down to the other store fronts with people walking past us which was good to see how my dog reacted, etc. Unfortunately, Kyle no longer works there but if you find him at another Petco I would highly recommend him. I'm not sure if this Petco has a new trainer or not. I've also used the grooming services at Petco from the full bath with nail trimming, anal glands expression, ear cleaning, etc., to just dropping in to do a nail trim. I can highly recommend Shelby for grooming as well as just nail trimming, Rocko likes her. Pricing is very reasonable for the various services I've used. I mean you can't beat $12.00 for a nail trim (much cheaper than what my vet use to charge). And if you use the Petco app you can easily schedule a grooming for any day at almost any time. They have appointments that start at 8am until I believe 6 or 6:30pm, depending on the day of the week. Rocko had one at 8am & even though the store isn't technically open for shoppers at that time the groomers are open. I like Petco and can recommend them for grooming, dog training as well as supplies. read more

They were able to work us in and give my pup great treatment even though I had canceled my appointment. Since I have huskies, and one of them is picky, those are always good deals for us to buy to test to see if the puppies well, the picky one likes the new treats. Specially helpful with changing their food because the picky husky does not like to eat the same bag every month and we switch him out from dry kibble to a different kibble daily! Pickiness, go figure! Lol Petco also has a great deal where if your dog does not like the food you can return it as long as you have the receipt. That is incredibly helpful because there's a number of times my picky husky will not eat the food two days in a row and he likes to sniff and nibble And then doesn't like to actually eat the food that's in his bowl! What disgusting treatment of animals! My girlfriend and I wandered in before visiting Trader Joe's next door. When we looked at the bird, the conures were suffering in vile conditions. The water in all of the cages was filthy. The cage of one had poop splattered all over the walls. That bird kept stepping and rubbing against her own excrement. The cages were small, dark, and lacked bird baths, and must have smelled terrible inside the glass. One of the birds pressed against the glass, and kept desperately trying to push through to reach me. The parakeets, which are smaller, got a bigger cage all together that was kept cleaner since it was more visible. Meanwhile, the larger birds had an 8th of the space and no ability to socialize with other birds. The employees were all apathetic. My girlfriend talked to one, who said he'd do something then didn't. Then I spoke to a manager who was dumping cat litter into a big bin, and she was eager to get rid of me and directed me to another manager. That guy (a tall, balding man) didn't seem to care and just wanted to get rid of me. How can you work in a pet store and not care about the lives of the animals in your care? We called Petco's customer service line and they were just low-wage employees outsourced from far-off countries and were following a basic script. Please, don't purchase from Petco. Especially don't purchase birds. The $1,000+ people pay per bird is what motivates Petco to harm these innocent creatures. I enjoy taking my dog to petco. The staff is so friendly and always acknowledges my dog and me upon arrival. The store is so clean and if for some reason your fur child has an accident, there are wipes and trash cans throughout the store so you can clean up the mess. I love the sale bins that are available throughout the year. I always let my little guy pick out a toy or two from those bins every time we make a trip to petco. I always enjoy walking throughout the whole store. I love looking at the lizards (as does my dog ), looking at the kittens and cats available for adoption, and seeing the beautiful fishies. We just picked up our dog Tyrion from the groomers and they were so sweet with our little guy. He's an older dog with really bad anxiety issues, so he can be a little difficult to manage when it comes to grooming. But they were able to give him a clean, short puppy cut for the upcoming warm weather. Highly recommend, the staff here is great! read more

Their animals are always sick and taking to a manager is not easy. I bought two parakeets from them. Had them for a little over a week. Noticed the male puffed always and he was throwing up. I brought them back they said they had to do a return in order to treat them then I can buy them back and reassured me if have the opportunity to buy them back. I never heard from them I had to call to get updates they took a week to observe them another week to treat just the male and then I was able to buy them back. I had them gone a week and the female acted way different was very aggressive squawked all the time and then suddenly died right in front of me and my kids which was very traumatic she squawked in pain. I brought her back they gave me a refund and said if I wanted to speak to a manager I'll have to wait he got in at 11 it was 11:20 he came in went in the back and never came out. I called yesterday to talk about the female that died and the male actin sick and a worker said he told him and have him my info but he was in a 20 minute meeting and then he would call me. Next day still haven't heard from him. I spent allot of money there, my kids are devastated and all because they dont take proper care of their animals. read more

During my most recent visit, Benjamin helped me out with my online order. It looked like he was the only employee at the time, but that didn't stop him from being attentive and greeting customers while also feeding the cats they had for adoption. Brought my dog in for bath and haircut plus I added shed release. I get a call about 1/2 hr after dropping him off saying it's taking to long to comb his undercoat out that she just doesn't have time for. This is why I brought him in and paying extra for shed release. Isn't this what they are supposed to do as a pet groomer? I picked him up , bought a shed brush, had his undercoat brushed out in 10 minutes. I just think she didn't want to do her job. The only way I'll bring my dog back there is if kat returns from her leave. She has never had a problem with my dog and always does a great job! read more

I brought my puppy Malti poo "Mochi" for her first groom at the Petco in Petaluma .it was an awful experience for Mochi as well as myself. Mochi looked awful, patches of hair long and short all over her body. legs and head no trimmed ,tears stain not removed ...the appointment was at 3:45 and less than 1 hour later they told me to pick her up. They did told me while i was checking her up that they would do their best as with a puppy it is not always easy. I understood of course. However the groomer was laughing when she explained that Mochi wasn't looking good . Mochi was still damp when i picked her up . it was disappointing , I wasn't expecting perfection of course. I had dogs all my life so i understand their behavior . but I paid $65 plus tip , for a chewed up puppy. Cleary no effort was putting into her. customer service was awful. and absolutely no empathie toward the customer. read more

This store is so dirty and disgusting, the is dust and dirt underneath the shelf's and the bathroom looks like somebody Peed all over the floor and nobody cared enough to clean it. It had no shopping carts inside so when you need to purchase a big 50 pound bag of dog food, you have to drag it across the floor. When I asked the lady at the register for help carrying it out, she literally rolled her eyes at me like I was being a problem. I am 55 years old with a very sore back. When I asked why they do not have shopping carts in the store she said too many homeless people steal them, so they only have the small handheld carts. I will never go here again! read more

My local groomer decided to specialize in small dogs and I couldn't find anywhere to get my 39 pound Portie groomed. I felt I was taking a gamble on Petco and was and continue to be pleasantly surprised. The staff is professional and warm and take extra care with my 13+ year old dog who has lung cancer and still manages to be an unruly handful! I love the simplicity of their online appointment booking. We get the full groom and my fur baby comes out smelling and looking great. The Petaluma Petco also has a vet that is open every other Saturday, which we have satisfactorily used when our regular vet was closed. Over the last year or so, I've noticed they are carrying more and more natural grooming products, pet food and treats. Petco is really working to be an affordable one-stop-shop for pets. read more

Three strikes, and I'm done. I've taken my dogs in for grooming, and each visit was disappointing. 1st visit my puppy, part malamute mix & his 11 yr old pittie brother went for grooming. I just wanted my pup to get introduced to grooming gently, but, he didn't settle in according to staff, and I had to pick him up within minutes. 2nd time, both went for full grooming, my pup also got a deshedding, the works, my pup had been groomed elsewhere in the meantime and did well, so thought I'd try here again. Apparently the hair cutter called in sick, so when I got there, they said they'd groom him, but I'd have to bring him back for a haircut. The deshedding didn't seem to happen though. On the return for his haircut, I made clear the back side was most important area of focus, but it's the only area that didn't get cut.. I had to trim it myself. I opted to give them 1 more shot, alas, I show up, and one of the groomers, the one with all the face jewelry (Devon) didn't want to take my malamute mix because he makes too much noise according to her. It bothers some she said, though no other dogs in the enclosed grooming area. Nothing was said about being noisy when I last picked him up, didn't note his profile, and didn't call before I showed up for our appointment, despite him being on the schedule to discuss. Instead, she waits until we show up. If you don't want to deal with a dog that makes noise, maybe tell the owner in advance, so we don't book another appointment and make plans around that appointment time. It's called communication. Pretty simple. My dogs are otherwise very quiet, even when neighboring dogs are going crazy, my dogs don't get triggered. They rarely make noise anywhere else, but my younger pup doesn't seem to feel comfy there. I thought initially it was because grooming was still new, but maybe it's just the vibe he gets off the groomers, because he isn't like that with vet staff or other store staff. Needless to say, 3 strikes and you're out. They've lost my business for my dogs. If you have dogs that make any noise, don't bother. The groomers I've used elsewhere did well with my boys, and I only took them to Petco because the location is more convenient, and my Vital Rewards, but I'll never make that mistake again. Back to the other groomers. Vetco staff and other staff are great, so I'll continue using Vetco and pick up online orders, but the groomers leave MUCH to be desired. read more

My children and I used to enjoy visiting Petco -- we love checking out the cats, the turtles, and the rodents. We shop here for our cats, and for our rat, fish, and random animal visitors when they were still around. We haven't stopped here in several months and today's visit was dismal. Many of the enclosures were deserted, with signs promising that animals are "coming soon". When we paused at the betta fish area, I felt sick. He was angry and curt with me, saying things to the effects of "point taken" and "that's a sign of overfeeding." We certainly won't be purchasing any animals from here, maybe except for feeder crickets.That is, if this store's going to be around for much longer with the depleting inventory. read more

I took Gus to Petaluma Petco for a haircut yesterday. The price was only $69! It is also the best haircut he's ever had, and he wasn't upset. I stopped taking him to the groomer a couple of years ago and started doing at home haircuts ( ) because he always seems so traumatized afterwards. Anyway, not a traumatized dog, cheaper than previous groom shops, best haircut he's ever had, and I dropped him off before 9:00 and was able to leave him there until 2:00 so that I could keep previously scheduled engagements. 10/10 highly recommend. Wow. I went in at about 20 minutes till closing for cat food. I went up and down the aisles and could not find what I went there for. There was one other customer in the store and then another family entered the store. About 5-7 minutes had gone by at this point and there was not a single employee to be found. For a second, I thought that all the employees had just left. I stuck my head into the back room and said "hello?" And then yelled "hello" on the sales floor. Where could they be? Everything looked well stocked and all the animals looked ok (thank god). Finally, I called the freakin store from inside of the store!!!!! No one answered. I went up to the check stand and said "hello?" Again. Finally a young brunette male walked out with a money drawer. I told him he had a bunch of customers in the store and he asked "did they come up here?" Um, what? Turns out there was another employee in the store too and they were both in the office. Really? Just counting money or something? He took me to the food I was looking for and I bought it and left. I work in customer service and I'm super shocked that 1) there was ZERO presence in the store for almost 10 minutes and 2) no apologies for it. I should have stolen three guinea pigs and all of the cat toys. I only went there because pet food express was already closed. Do better, Petco. Yikes read more

Groomers took an extra amount of time and made sure to go the added mile to get Loki looking spectacular. He was so beautiful and clean. I feel compelled to at this Petco and I'm not even a big animal person BUT Serious Animal abuse in this store. 20 single fish in 3x3 inch containers with no air hole and 7 of them were straight up dead. the fish at the fair are treated better. 4 little hamsters in a small cage - 2 attacking each other and one appeared dead. Guenia pigs in super small cages. Algea growing in dirty fish tanks. smells like dog poop from the uncleaned dog grooming window. The worse was the cat scratching the cage and meowing at us - begging for attention. My daughter and her friend (teens and animal lovers) were in tears because of the sadness and animal abuse. why you can't just sell animal products without subjecting these poor animals is beyond me. read more
