We took our new Doberman puppy, Dax, to Dairy Dell for their "one hour miracle training session". I thought to myself "how could this possibly work in one hour" but MAN was I wrong! The course definitely lives up to its title. Our rambunctious Doberman is now listening and behaving so much better, it's really like night and day. This review is purely for boarding. We have had nothing short of a phenomenal experience with dairy dell for boarding our two year-old high energy border collie. We have tried many different boarding facilities across Marin and dairy dell is literally the only one that we have found to be perfect. The dogs get plenty of outside time, the environment is structured in order to reduce stress to the dogs , the owner lives on site and when you drop your dog off, you get the sense that the level of care and involvement is more akin to that of a hospital than a boarding facility - I say that in the sense that they care about every little detail and there are no better hands to leave your dog in than Dairy Dell. The also let the dogs out to go potty early and their last potty break at night is around 9 pm or so. Believe it or not most boarding facilities don't let the dogs out to relieve themselves for 12 + hours at a time which is unacceptable for us. We have a high bar for boarding and no other facilities have come close. We live in Novato and have tried boarding facilities across mill valley, Corte madera and Novato. Dairy Dell beats them out of the park. Never once had any issue. Dog comes back tired and calm. I have zero concerns dropping her off for boarding and I know she loves it! For reference we do the group boarding option and it works great! read more

Dogs can have their own personal unit to stay in away common area with other dogs. Activities are available for a fee. You can take food or have Dairydell's food for dogs. Make sure to write explicit descriptions on care and feeding. I went to more than four other kennels before choosing Dairydell. None of them provided the care, surroundings or actual kennel area dogs are in most of day and sleep at night. I would never leave my dogs anywhere but Dairydell ! read more

We have had our challenging dog in board and train levels 1 and 2 at Dairy Dell and have enjoyed doing the maintenance classes regularly. Now we are doing the "pack walk" with Kara and that is going very well. Kara is very observant and seems to be able to read a dog's cues and then explain what she sees and then give good tips on dealing with various situations that our dog has a hard time with. Big and clean facility but a BIG negative is that they have No staff for boarding dogs. The owner lives close by but that is not relevant. If a dog has an emergency at 2am there is no one to know or help. No cameras around the facility. The staff behind the desk is young and lack professional training to speak to guests. There are some fantastic places in Marin which might be smaller but the owners know better to leave the dogs by themselves all night. read more

I sent Cobalt, my 3 yr old Mini Aussie to Dairydell for the four week board and train program. Cobalt has always been very anxious, always jumping on me and not realizing his strength. Last year he ended up knocking me down and I received some permanent injury so I decided it was time for me to research a place for him because I was at my wits end. Well let me tell you, after the four week program I picked up a very well trained and obedient dog. He's so much more manageable and much less anxious and he listens. He's a pleasure to have back in the house. I have had numerous people including his vet and his groomer compliment the new Cobalt. One reason I chose Dairydell is because he's be trained by women so I felt that being trained by a female voice it would give me a better chance of being heard when I give him a Command. Also attending the post training classes was a great help as I could get hands on help and correction for myself and how I was dealing with Cobalt. My two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Chelsea and Hazel, are currently at Dairydell for the two week board and train. I can't wait for the to come home next week so I can see their progress. Don't know why I've waited so long but here is my review. I totally recommend Dairydell. We've used for our last two dogs. We did two weeks of board&train and it is absolutely well worth it. They have a carefully, time-tested program and have hired and trained their staff to work within it to ensure a consistent message to the dogs. They then train YOU in sessions held after each week so you do the SAME process. They assign a trainer that focuses on your dog. The trainer can them work with you and explain your dog's idiosyncrasies to you! Our dogs took to the training. They don't become perfect dogs because WE humans are really bad at follow-through and consistency but they are so much better having been through the training. Our English Springer Spaniel became a gem on a leash and walking her became a breeze!! No mean feat when a squirrel crossing our path would cause her to bolt and drag me to the ground. We took her to a refresher stay after a few years. They told us when we picked her up that she was a gem and that WE needed to be more consistent. Yes, I am still working on that with the second dog who is better trained than I am at this point. read more

I've been thinking about writing a review for this daycare for a while now, but what made me finally do it? Yesterday, I picked up my boxer/beagle mix from playcare. We have a specific routine, where he jumps in the car and I give him a treat and tell him how much I missed him. However, yesterday he absolutely did not want to jump in my car. He wanted to go right back to playing with his doggie friends! This is the moment I realized that I had to write this review and boast about how wonderful my dog's daycare is. I've brought my dog to other facilities for day care and have never gotten the excellent customer service as I have from Dairy Dell. It isn't a bunch of "young teenagers who need a job" running the day care, it's adults who truly have a passion and career choice to be with animals. They know my dog, and they know his personality quirks. They write a post card about how his day went EVERY DAY! Best of all, he comes home exhausted from the large fields he gets to run around in all day. They have one of the most beautiful, dog-oriented facilities in town and yet they are reasonably priced. For me, it was scary leaving my dog's previous playcare. They all knew him there, and I felt comfortable. But I am so happy I did. I work in the veterinary field, and I will only recommend Dairy Dell to my clients for now on. read more

My black lab, Cooper, has been going to Dairydell's daycare since he was six months old and absolutely loves it. Everyone treats him and all of the other dogs with love and respect. When I turn down the driveway to enter the main gate he stands up and begins to whine because he is so excited to play in the stable or out in their huge dog parks, which are also available for us to use on weekends when they are closed. When I pick him up, the employees tell me who he had fun with or some funny story about something he did before I walk him out to the car. He usually doesn't want to leave because he would rather stay and play. Cooper has also stayed overnight in the kennel and we attended a seven week training class together. I am overprotective of him and worry more than I should about his well-being, but there is absolutely no need when he is at Dairydell. The kennel is wonderful, he has a blast, and I know he is safe at all times. The training worked wonders with just one class. Lastly, I have to mention that today I had the WORST moment ever when I realized that I locked my dog and keys in my car when I picked him up. He was trapped inside and the office had just closed. My phone was inside the car and my husband wasn't answering his phone. Horrible situation that made me think I would have to find a way to break a window. Instead, I went inside and received the most amazing generosity from the staff, who bent over backwards to make my dog and me comfortable while waiting for a tow truck to arrive. They stayed after hours and made sure we were taken care of before enjoying the rest of their weekend. I don't know how to thank them for all they did (the list is too long to share), but I hope people will read this review and take my word for it when I say that they are true professionals. I have a practically perfect McNab/Border Collie. Except for jumping on EVERYONE. And some leash pulling. We just finished a week with the Dairydell team and have the tools we need to really deepen our communication/relationship and improve house manners, especially jumping. This was the training I desperately needed for my girl and we have them now. It's only day one home, and she is tired for sure. I asked if she would like to walk and she is up and ready to get 'dressed' and go. Great 15 minute walk to keep the training consistency- she is a rock star. Totally ignored the neighborhood dog and stayed right by my side. AND did NOT jump on his owner. The methods Dairydell uses are stellar and create a bond based on personality type of you AND your pup. since I can't do ten stars on Yelp, here they are. 10 Stars. We're glad our friend's recommended Dairydell for puppy training. From our first interaction, we've appreciated the professional attentiveness (and follow-up) from everyone. We were fortunate to be assigned to Lesley Zoromski for private training. Leslie is an educator with superb communication skills. She shared a ton of both background and practical training information during the session while also responding to our many questions and concerns. We never felt rushed during the session and had plenty of time to practice skills. We left feeling confident to continue at home without feeling overwhelmed with it all as new puppy owners. Leslie was also fantastic with our daughter. She uses written hand-outs and fun exercises to help my daughter learn about dog safety and age appropriate training skills for kids. Thanks Lesley! My brother and I had a horrible experience here today, and will not be returning. These people are not dog lovers!!! After telling the staff that our big rescue puppy had severe separation anxiety and was not be put in a crate/room or left alone, we got a call at the end of the day that he was segregated the whole time because he supposedly made one of the staff "uncomfortable". (I'm sorry but if you work in a dog boarding facility, a boisterous floppy pup shouldn't phase you a bit.) Upon pick up, his chest and front paws were soaking wet from his own drool, because of terrible anxiety from being locked up for hours alone. I'm extremely disappointed in their lack of dog knowledge and the fact that we asked them to call us at any point during the day if there was a problem or he was unhappy. There are plenty of good doggy day cares in the area- no reason to waste your money and subject your dog to mistreatment! No response from the owner necessary-- you don't need to be an experienced trainer to know what a dog needs. It is just embarrassing and insulting to read some of the owner's replies to the many unhappy dog parent reviews. read more

I have now used Dairydell for training of my great pryrenees/Anatolian mix for three of the four weeks of Board And Train. He is a large, stubborn dog who has to think about Everything before he makes a move. Our experience spread across both fire power outages and the onset of Covid. The staff has been incredible and the training awesome. I really cannot understand anyone giving this facility less than 5 stars. I now have a dog who can walk at my side and will obey sit, down, place and "usually" come! I understand that his progress with obedience is now my responsibility. The prong collar gives me control that I never had with the other collars and harnesses I tried. Interestingly, he runs away when I pull out the harness but he willingly waits for the prong collar. We are still learning with the E collar, but it is for correction, not punishment. Regarding the challenges of Covid, they are organized and thoughtful about all the interventions. The new online trainings are very explicit and well done. This is a resource which, I think, takes the training to another level. Personally, I think you cannot go wrong with Dairydell. The staff is always cheerful and helpful. We feel welcome in every way. read more

----HEADLINE - Dairydell STOLE $80 from me AND didn't provide the services advertised. ---- The primary reason for the low rating here is the ***extremely shady*** business practices of the facility. I put a deposit down over the phone for the $1725 (Which is VERY pricey for this length of this type of program, but I assumed they were better and worth the money. My mistake). They charged me the full price of a daycare session for their required "behavior assessment" without notifying me that they were charging me. They charged the card number that I'd given over the phone. They charged me ~$80 for various training supplies that were handed to me when I picked my dog up. Once again, they did not inform me of any charges..just gave me the bag of items as a gift and then I find the surprise on my credit card statement weeks later. They required an extra frequent bordatella shot but then apparently don't do a good enough job screening dogs or cleaning up since my dog got kennel cough after being there for a week. The $1725 price tag turned into $2030. --I did NOT approve or sign any credit card slip for the $25 "mandatory" assessment --I did NOT approve or sign any credit card slip for the $80 supply gift bag that was handed to me --$200 of extra bordatella shots and follow up antibiotics were required after my dog attended this facility. As for the training received and the *TWO* things that I said my dog needed training on? Well it takes my entire strength to hold my dog back from trash cans and after using a pinch collar for 2 months religiously, the SECOND I put a flat collar on my dog, he forgets everything he knows and goes nuts on the leash..pulling towards every dog and person he can and trying to play with everything. The training was sub-par. My experience was poor. My dog got sick. My credit card was repeatedly and unauthorized-ly charged. **UPDATE** The business's response to my review was to offer a private training session instead of the group class that is included. This is a step in the right direction but not a complete resolution to the problem. I have a copy of every single email that ever was passed between myself and Dariydell and there is absolutely zero indication that I would be charged for training equipment above and beyond the exorbitant price that the training package cost. read more

We boarded our two golden retrievers here on several occasions when we would take brief (2 day) trips to Tahoe. The first time was relatively fine; however, on the second occasion our mellow boy, Buddy, was bitten all across his nose and had a dried wound in his neck. Nearly his entire nose scabbed over and took weeks to heal. We decided to give them one last try... Needless to say, our other dog returned home and developed kennel cough. The staff never had an explanation for either incident. We got a run-of-the-mill "it is what it is" response. There are much better options out there for your beloved pets! Do not waste your time or money on this facility and certainly do not risk your dog's well-being. You should not have to pay expensive veterinary bills in addition to the fees from this poorly-run business! read more

Spartacus (my gorgeous Great Dane) has been visiting Dairydell for the past three years. Everything from training to boarding. Due to this fact, I find some of the negative reviews laughable. However I can only share my experiences and opinions. 1. I do not want Dairydell to allow a dog in without the proper shots. I would never ever use them again if they DID allow this. So I'm happy that I read that 1 star review. It lets me know that Dairydell is doing the RIGHT THING! 2. My dog has had several training sessions with Dairydell. I have read their contracts inside and out. Everything is clear. I know what I am paying for at all times. If anything additional come up, I receive a call. 3. Dairydell LOVES my dog. They are always excited when I call them to book his stays. I have never received a rude attitude from anybody there. Dairydell could be perceived as a bit pricey. But you get what you pay for. Give you an example? Sure!... These are not a bunch of "I love puppy dogs, this will be a fun job" people. These are actual professionals who pay great attention to the psychology of your pet. Your dog won't be returned smelling like pee. The indoor outdoor boarding offers a lot of room for your fur-baby. They follow your care instructions. The training is successful. It's a win win for the dog and the human! I LOVE Dairydell, but better yet my dog LOVES Dairydell. My employers little cavalier king charles, Big Ben, absolutely loves coming here! I drop him off during the weekends whenever they travel and as soon as we cross the bridge into Petaluma he is up on his seat and wagging the tail. The office staff is beyond nice, as is everyone I've encountered there. They all love Ben and say he is the absolute best and cutest dog ever, but I'm sure they say that to everyone, right? But, regardless, it makes me feel like he gets plenty of attention, and then some more attention, which he eats up. They are always accommodating with my last minute schedule changes and have always made room for Ben, without ever making me feel bad for saying I'm going to be late, can I pick him up early, or I just found out today that he needs boarding tomorrow. They do have admission policies and deposit policies and paperwork, but once you have the routine down it is very easy. And they are in the business of being trusted with valuable assets, so it actually makes me feel good that they take it seriously. read more

It ASTOUNDS me the 3 star rating this place currently has. I have heard wonderful things about them, met amazing dogs trained by them, and seen their beautiful facility. I brought my 9 month old Lab here for her first daycare experience, and I am so happy I did. The staff was sweet, inviting, thorough in their paperwork (which puts my mind at ease, I know no sick or un vaccinated dogs will be slipping in under the cracks) and they even put up with me calling to check on her more than once! I had been so worried, I've heard horror stories from other pet boarding facilities in town, and leaving your precious puppy in the hands of people you don't know can be so unnerving, however she came home with out a bruise or a bump! They put her in the appropriate play group, and she came home burnt and ready for another nap! Don't let the bad reviews scare you away from this wonderful place. We will be taking advantage of their daycare services often, and probably their incredibly training programs as well. read more

Lovely place as far as facilities but not great dog people. I took our sweet 30 pound labradoodle for a get to know you visit. I told them at least six times he was great with other dogs, but nervous around strange people. Despite this, they insisted on taking him instantly away from me and my daughter, and subjecting him to what they themselves called a "stress test." Naturally he was scared and snapped and growled at them. (No one was hurt at all). At which point, they rejected him as a client. Why on earth, if they will only except perfect dogs, did they not tell me that during one of the six times I told them about his nervousness? I am not impressed. read more

If you are having a problem with your dog, this is the place to go. We have a great pyrenees that we got as an 8 week old pup and he was perfect until about age one and a half. Then he started exhibiting alpha male behavior. He would growl at us if we tried to take a high value treat away from him or if we woke him suddenly while we were all in the living room watching tv, or if someone was at the other end of the house, he would jump up and growl and bark. I tried a personal trainer for 6 months who's methods were extreme and didn't help at all. I had the appointment with the Vet to put him down after talking to numerous trainers on the phone who refused to help. We relented on the euthanasia and tried to adopt him out to someone who claimed to be a dog trainer. When she brought him back I said I would give him one more chance and try Dairydell because I had heard good things about them and Camilla gave a speech at the shelter where my daughter works. I scheduled an appointment with Camilla and we spent an hour talking about our dog and coming up with a plan. She gave me some great advise about how to avoid problems and suggested one of her trainers, Marianne, for one on one sessions. She was frank, yet encouraging. We started with Marianne once weekly and after 3 or 4 weeks, she felt he was a completely different dog. The leadership walk was the first step in boundaries with love. Our dog is very sensitive and needs constant loving reinforcement of the rules, but can not be intimidated or abused in any way. This breed is naturally protective and ferocious when attacked. I was firm but very loving and completely consistent. Once he understood that he was a good boy for obeying, he started to wag his tail again and actually listen when I asked something of him. We worked very hard for 8 months and then I took him for the good canine testing and he passed with flying colors. I'm not saying he's perfect. He still barks at strangers on the property and we cannot give him high value treats, but we have learned how to maximize his good behavior and diminish his bad behavior. He's a very loving dog and is so much happier since we took him to Dairydell. I will happily keep this dog for the rest of his life and trust that he wil not hurt anyone. I recommend Dairydell to anyone having a problem with their animal. read more

We sent one of our dogs to DairyDell's 4-week board and train program. He was a hyper, difficult to control, 10-month old Golden Retriever. He came back to us a much better behaved dog. It was like night and day. We are able to do so much more with him now because he knows his manners and minds them. We just dropped off another 11-month old Golden Retriever that we adopted over the Christmas holidays. While we will miss her during her 4 weeks at Dairydell, we know she, too, will come back well-trained and a better behaved member of our pack. ETA (5/16/2016) Since I wrote this review on 1/10/2016, the 11-month Golden Retriever came home from her 4-week board and train program and, again, the difference is amazing. We purchased her from a breeder that was planning to use her for confirmation which meant she basically had no obedience training. She may have been one of the few older puppies that DairyDell had ever seen that didn't even know "sit" since that's not something a dog being trained for confirmation is taught. She's now incredibly well behaved and we receive compliments from strangers about her impeccable manners. In addition to these dogs, I also sent my 2-year-old Golden Retriever to DairyDell at the start of April. She had some training through my local community center when she was a puppy but I felt the training needed to be solidified and improved. She attended the 3-week board and train program and came back with her manners improved and a better behaved dog, too. (Of all my Goldens, this is the one to whom I'm the most attached. She was the first one we got and we just clicked. She loves our whole family but I'm her favorite,too. I had the hardest time leaving this one for 3-weeks but it was well worth it. And, if I was willing to trust DairyDell with this one, then you know I think they do a great job. The newest addition to our Golden Retriever family is a 9-month-old female. She received training from the breeder prior to coming home with us but when I picked her up it was clear that DairyDell's training was much, much better. So, she's at Dairydell now, attending their 3-week program. This way she'll be in step with the DairyDell way, like my other 3 Goldens. I simply can't say enough positive things about Dairydell. 4 Goldens is a lot of dog (and a lot of hair). I first met Camilla at an IACP conference (International Association of Canine Professionals) about 4 years ago. As a new member, I was a bit nervous and insecure. I listened to her speak about her training techniques, and I loved her warmth, energy, and her knowledge was incredible. Since I do struggle a bit with some learning difficulties, there were some things I did not quite understand... and Camilla had the patience, and tool the time with me to walk through some of her techniques... step by step. She managed to help me understand not just what she was doing, but the reasons behind why it worked. Armed with this new knowledge, I went home and tried some of the techniques she had taught me with my own customers, and the results were amazing! This past year, I attended the conference with my own pup. A five month old hyperactive 60 lb ball of energy. (A smaller version of me!) Sometimes, being a professional trainer, and working with everyone else s dogs, our own dogs' training may suffer a bit. Camilla managed to make the time to work with me and Reilley in between her already crazy speaking schedule. Every suggestion she gave me worked like a charm with him. And he adored her! While some trainers like to 'guard' their secrets... keep tight the things that make them so good... But it is so obvious that Camilla absolutely LOVES what she does.... and she is never pretentious about her knowledge. If you want to learn, she is there to teach. She is open, easy to talk to, caring, patient, and I can honestly say, she is one of the reasons I look forward to the yearly IACP conferences. I am not sure what took me so long to write a review as we absolutely love this place! My 2.5yr old Chocolate Lab Harper has been coming here since she was about 6 months old. On average she goes to daycare a couple times a week. She is always happy when we pull up and she comes home exhausted. I like the fact that the dogs are crated for two hours midday for a nap. It gives her a chance to rest and when she was younger she ate lunch (no longer) and Dairydell was the only daycare I could find that would give a meal midday. I love the report cards they give daily when I pick up Harper so I know what she did and who she played with (she has her favorites, her sister Sadie goes her also). When Harper is boarded I do not worry about her at all. I love that she is able to play with other dogs but still has her own space during lunch and night time. She was crate trained so that is not an issue for us. If your dog is not familiar with a crate it may not be a good fit. While in boarding I have paid extra for daily walks and to swim in the full size pool. I have also utilized the grooming services to make sure she comes home fresh and clean. Now, the employees. Every dealing I have had with Dairydell has been a pleasure. You can tell they all truly love dogs and their jobs. They know all the dogs names, so much I just say I am Harper's mom and they know exactly who I am. Dairydell has something special and I hope they continue to thrive.
