Longtime Petco customer when I lived in South Jersey, but these Petco stores in Northern Jersey don't look to be customer-oriented and do not care if they get customers in their store or not. I wouldn't be surprised if in the future they restructure these stores and close their doors. I went to this location for a grooming appointment, there was no doggie relief area immediately near the entrance/exit of the store. Heartless disingenuous and do not care about animals. I had 2 appointments 3:45 and 3:55. I booked that way so I could bring them both without a wait in between. My larger baby (Great Pyrenees) had double ACL surgery so getting her in and out of the car is no small feat; she weighs 130lbs. I gave myself enough/extra time but Ofcourse I-80 traffic is forever unpredictable and built up while on the road. In any event I got there at 3:58. They were still seeing another dog. "We can't see you. You're 3 mins late." You watch a hobbling gentle giant and refuse a vaccination visit (which was btw a follow up and would not have been a 'full appointment time') and refuse to for 3 mins late!! I wish I could really write what I'm thinking! It's disgusting to me!!! This is healthcare? NEVER COMING BACK HERE. That doctor DOES NOT care about animals. read more

The hygiene of the restroom is disturbing. I get that job sucks I've worked it before but it's STAYED LIKE THIS FOR WEEKS. I went in a couple weeks ago to pee and it was the same exact condition. Petco is a mega warehouse of pet supplies, food and toys. They offer grooming too and training. The atmosphere is what you would expect in a discount-oriented shop that caters to pet owners and also allows them to bring a pet into the store. Staff we have encountered is both friendly and knowledgable. Our interest is only for cat and dog items but them have lots of there pet supplies (and some actual pets) to meet most people's needs. Their prices are usually good but not great. We wait for coupons and special sales to shop here. Also, they carry better-than-average dog food but not the one we think is (pun intended) best-of-greed - Orijin. Overall, we think they are a decent place to get food and supplies for our pets when they have sales and coupons. read more

Today, was told "we have a New Manager and he/she won't let us work on (my dog) because of his lump." He has a lump on his belly for past 5-6 years now. I've never had a good experience here, I once brought my senior dog for a full wash & trim. After about 2 hours of him being there and not receiving the call that he was ready for pick up, I went back into the store. The grooming employees were no where to be found and my dog was in a cage screaming his head off. Turns out the employees were on "break." For two hours? With my dog locked in a cage? I had made the appointment weeks prior, they had plenty of time to adjust the schedule. Instead they left my dog in a cage & didn't even start his bath. This location NEVER answers the phone. The one time they did answer the phone, I was told that for a simple nail trim i could just walk in. Well after calling 4+ times, I decided to load up my dog & drive down there. I hardly even got into the store before the cashier yelled "grooming's closed." ... It would be nice if they actually had their grooming hours listed. Instead, they have a sign that just says "grooming hours" with no hours listed.. What a joke. Never returning to this location. read more

We had an appointment today for our fur baby, Litten, and the Vets were amazing. Our pet was so upset that he peed in his carrier and was very skittish. The doctor not only provided the service with care but she went the extra mile to clean our cat's carrier and cut his nails for free. A special thanks to the Vets at the Poughkeepsie, NY, Petco. As a general rule, I tend to like Petsmart stores better than Petco...though this Petco location isn't bad. They could definitely do a better job keeping up with their sales-making sure the register prices match up with sales prices, but the staff is helpful and seem to be knowledgeable. We don't use the grooming area for our dogs (we have two shedders so instead I could really just use an industrial robotic vacuum service, but that's another story), so I can't rate that option here... It's fine, same supplies as all the others and they always have what we need so it's simply A-Ok. This isn't my favorite Petco location simply because it's in a part of town where I usually don't find myself shopping. read more

Absolute WORST customer service. I have been going here for years to groom my dogs and year to year it looks like they get worse and worse. I had an appointment for three weeks to bring my dogs for their appointment. Unfortunately I couldn't bring them and I had somebody else drop them off and he was 15 minutes late. The problem is I tried to call them but because they're always so short staffed and no one picked up the phone and they said they couldn't groom them. The groomer was actually nice enough to consider doing it and she was about to do it until the managers stepped in and he looked for any excuse to not groom them. He landed on my dogs heart murmur which was ridiculous because they had groomed her three times before that and knew about the heart murmur. Don't bother calling customer service either because they're a waste also. I was supposed to get an email or phone call to resolve the situation but nothing ever happened. Good thing I knew not to expect anything from this company because I brought my dogs to another groomer, and they were fantastic. who knew that nice groomers actually existed. read more

I have been bringing Maggie, my Shetland Sheepdog, to Jessica since she came to us as a puppy about a year ago. She LOVES Jessica! Jessica does an amazing job making her fur beautiful, shiny and clean and clipped. Jessica is so gentle with Maggie, and all the dogs I've seen her interact with. She truly loves these pets and it shows. Maggie wags her tail when she sees her and I never worry about leaving her for her spa day. Cassandra is also wonderful, gentle and truly cares for the dogs. I wouldn't ever hesitate to leave Maggie with her either. On top of that they really do an exceptional job! read more

My rescue dog wasn't there more than 15 minutes and I got a call that he was a "DANGER". He is the kindest dog ever...The hair cut that I wanted done on my dog was different than what she thought was appropriate. I am not a fan of this place. They didn't seem to care too much and my overall experience was just terrible. The manager did find me in the store and remembered me from another trip when I rescued our dog. I told him what happened and he was glad to give me an apology on their behalf and a coupon. Going to a local, smaller shop may be better for a rescue dog. read more

I am reviewing their self-service dog wash. This is a great service at $10.00 an hour (+tax of course)! I am able to wash a 45 lb. dog and a 95 lb. dog thoroughly in the one-hour time. The stainless steel sink is set up nicely and is back-friendly. They supply a high-quality shampoo, all the towels that you can ask for and even a blow dryer (one dog likes it - the other, not so much). They clean up after you also!!!!! I used to do this at home myself but between the set-up and clean-up, hot water, shampoo, towels (laundering them afterward) $10.00 is a bargain and a half! Now I bathe the dogs every 10 weeks. Great service and if you use it I suggest that you give the groomer who is working there and has the clean-up after you leave a tip! PS: Make sure that you bring along your dogs record of vaccinations when you go there as they need that information to allow you to use the facility. I forgot the first time I went and had to drive back home to get it. It is a bit of a pain, but it is there to protect your wonderful dog (or cat if you have one that you can wash without being cut to shreds in the process)! read more

Really disorganized store, poorly posted sales that almost rise to the level of false advertising when you get to the cash register and are told that it didn't apply to your product, and staff is nowhere to be found when you're shopping and have a question (even when it's not busy). Decent selection in the foods (not so much on the toys) and the girl at check out was really nice. read more

Went today to buy a hamster. Had to go through 3 ppl to finally get help. The guy was telling us we couldn't get two and we need this huge glass cage that would fit a snake. We said we have stuff and home and we have had hamsters before. We had ours for 3 yrs it passed 6 mths ago so we we're ready for another one. He refused to sell it to us. We go to pet stores all the time my daughter is a huge animal lover a d never had I ever come across this . Unbelievably rude !!!! read more

I take my dog here for their grooming salon. Super professional, they always make me aware if they find any ticks, fleas etc. If they nick her they let me know which is great (Had an issue at another groomers where they didn't let me know and my dog ended up at the vet with an infection, could've been avoided if they told us about it for us to watch and apply ointment to). My dog is sensitive to perfumes in shampoos and products so they use really gentle products on her. She always looks great leaving there and they're more than happy to take her back with anything I'm unsatisfied with (never happens). I am a customer on behalf of Miss Stella Matutina, a gray short hair cat. Best thing about it is the store brand cat litter in the refillable containers. It's the cheapest by far of any brands in the area. Why people spend so much money on litter, considering what it is used for, is beyond me. Big selection of wet and dry cat food, but prices are high. Mine only eats the Fancy Feast canned, and it's cheaper at the grocery stores, as is the dry food. Employees are hit or miss. Their computers and cash registers often seem to be off their feed. read more

I have used this Petco to groom my cock-a-poo for many years. I have always had a good an experience. Laura has been grooming my dog for the past year and she is amazing. Very gentle and kind. She found a tick on her and saved it in a bag so I could bring it to the vet. She even called me one day when my dog was due to be groomed and suggested that since my dog has hair (not fur) and takes a while to dry that I might want to reschedule her appointment because it would be too cold for her! Groomer: Figured I would call ahead just to make sure there were no issues with a simple nail trim for my senior dog and puppy. I brought everything she asked me to bring and the snotty girl did not accept any of it. She would not trim my senior dogs nails because she said he had muscle weakness on his blood titer form. What does that have to do with a nail trim??? Then she asked for 3 rounds of shots from my 4 month old puppy which he has but she did not say I needed them. Apparently she was overwhelmed or just doesn't know what she is doing. What a waste of my time. Just take your pets to a real vet. read more

do NOT shop at Petco Parsippany NJ #1854 After a cashier took nearly a half hour to process my coupons and gift card and was still having trouble, I commented that it would have been quicker for me to go to the location ten minutes away. Michael took the opportunity to tell me he was going to cancel my [$315] order because I was rude! He then told me that if "I didn't have a bazillion coupons I wouldn't have this problem!!" I did state to Michael that I did not plan to return to this location, and he said " GOOD !!!!! " So take my advice. Do NOT shop at Petco in Parsippany NJ, and if you do, DON'T bring coupons! This is one of the best Petco's I have been to. The staff at this store really goes out of their way to get to know their customers and that goes a long way with me. I have five cat's and one dog so I spend a lot of time and money at this store and the 5% back on purchase is always helpful. The trainer Stephanie is excellent and knowledgeable and the training I got for my puppy has really been working well. This was my first dog and the training was as much for me as it was for her, and I really felt as if I got a lot out of it. The grooming staff are also great. My pup always looks like a million bucks when she leaves! The store manager Earl really does an amazing job running this store. read more

the grooming done from Diane deserves -100 stars. she hates her job and she makes it clear. first this place canceled on me same morning I had my dog's appointment, then was moved to another day by a groomer I didn't know , who this Diane lady is. never told me that. to make a long story short, this was the worst grooming my dog has ever had. not only does he look like crap she rushed me out not even telling me anything about him. usually groomers give you a report of what concerns they had but this lady was not engaging at all. she made it clear that Petco doesn't pay her enough to do her job correctly. she reminded me of a worker from McDonalds in the drive thru. miserable and underpaid. except she was given my dog for a couple of hours which upsets me. I know for a fact she mishandled my dog by the attitude and shitty grooming she did on him. a simple shave down on him was what I asked for. she gave him back with one eyelash gone while the other was left on, boogers in his eyes, his underarms were full of hair ,his hair is shaved down extremely uneven, he looks homeless. he had so much loose hair on him, like she did a dry haircut and gave him back that way without blowing the hair off. I'm sure she didn't do the teeth brushing I paid extra for cause why would she if she did horrible with everything else. his ears still smelled bad, and I paid $87. she made me pay in advance and I added tip because I'M NICE assumed she wouldn't mess up a simple haircut. Grooming Review: I had a bizarre experience recently with the grooming service at the Petco in Parsippany. I have been taking my dog for grooming at the Petco in Parsippany for years, the service was never exceptional but they had flexible hours and are inexpensive. I always looked at it as "you get what you paid for" type of bath/grooming experience. My bizarre experience was recent (December 2017) first, each time I have called someone who sounds like they are having a bad day and are extremely busy picks up, they can't ever just make your appointment they always have to call you back. I made an appointment on a Friday for a Sunday at 10:30, I went on to have an extremely hectic weekend. I inadvertently forgot to bring my dog for my scheduled appointment and when they called to inform me of my missed appointment I apologized as sincerely as I could, even as I write this review I feel badly missing the app. I was ready to reschedule until the person on the call (same extremely unhappy and busy individual) informed me that I am now blacklisted from weekend appointments because this is my second offense. When I asked for clarification as I couldn't remember missing another appointment, they told me that apparently I missed an appointment in March of 2016 (18 months ago) and so now I am blacklisted just from weekends, they will take us during the week. I told them that they can delete my dogs file, I wont be back. As I stated, we didn't intend to miss the appointment, although I don't remember missing the appointment in March of 2016 I know that it couldn't have been on purpose - things happen. I know for a fact that I have consistently brought my dog in and on time many more times then these two missed appointments. Their customer service is a joke, and at the end of the day they have plenty of competition who are probably a bit more forgiving. read more

Horrible groomers ,nasty girls who are mean & abusive to your animals.. I took my dog for years to a groomer in an animal hospital and never had a problem. She got ill and was out of service for six months so I started taking him to Petco. I took my sweet dog there about three times. Few months later I made him an appointment he is a poodle schnauzer mix so his hair grows and grows and needs to be groomed every couple of months... Something happened and I had to cancel his appointment and that's when they told me that he was banned from their place, that my dog tried to bite her.. The day of the canceled appointment came and I got a phone call saying "do not bring your dog and he is banned from our place".. I told her first of all I canceled that appointment and my dog is the sweetest dog ever !!what did you do to my dog to make him want to bite you!!! I then made him an appointment at the Animal Hospital that was cutting my dogs hair for 7 years ...as soon as she started to groom him he got so panicky and terrified that she could not groom him.. Been about two years now since that bad experience at Petco and since then my vet has to sedate him to groom him ,this is the result of those nasty girls at Petco Parsippany .. They hurt him and he will not forget it.. Those girls have no experience and I'd like to know what kind of training they get because they do not know how to handle animals and I know way too many people with the same complaint. If you are going to try to use their grooming services, do yourself a favor and don't bother. I decided to get my husky groomed and figured I would try it out. Price was reasonable and it was close. First off, he's about 12, so he's not a puppy. I have 4 kids and he is the most gentle loving dog. I'm not saying this just because he is MY dog. He has never growled, bit or shown any aggression ever ! And he only barks when he has to go potty. So I get there, speak to the girl about what she needs to do, and I leave. FIVE minutes later she calls to tell me to get my dog, he was thrashing on the table and tried to bite her. I was extremely shocked so I went to get him. She then proceeds to charge me for nail clipping and ear cleaning, saying she "won't" charge me for the 15 minutes she had him on the table tying to groom him. FIFTEEN MINUTES??? I double checked my phone because I made a call as I was walking out of the store in the parking lot to the time she called me to get him. It was exactly FIVE minutes!!!! I brought my dog home, called another wonderful grooming place on Main Street in Boonton. She took him right in, bathed and groomed him and he was done in 3 hours!!!!! No "thrashing or biting"!!!! This girl clearly knew nothing about dogs. I will never go there again, not even to get pet supplies. They really need to reconsider their employees! It was an awful experience. I think she just didn't want to do all the work it would take for this breeds long thick coat!!! I recommend finding ANYWHERe else to go!!!! read more
