Horrible

Do NOT take your dog here for grooming if they have curly fur. The groomers here are exceptionally lazy and will SHAVE your dog practically down to the bone if they have any tangles in their hair which are common with poodles and poodle mixes. My dog looked RIDICULOUS when I picked him up. He is regularly getting laughed and pointed at on the street now because he is patchy and feral looking after getting "groomed" at this establishment. He was sulking around our house looking very depressed once he came home from this hack job. I suspect the groomer was rough and manhandling him given my dogs mood and the fact that the groomer was giving us quite the attitude and telling us doodles should be kept shaved (insane lie) at all times. The groomer expressed much frustration with us when we stated that we didn't want to shave our dog. He clearly just doesn't want to do his job and has an anti doodle bias because curly haired dogs take more care to groom. If you don't want to deal with all fur textures maybe you shouldn't be a groomer!

He was depressed for weeks after this 'haircut'

I brought my dog in for a bath. A BATH only. Three hours later I picked up an animal that was nervous and scared and shaven in random places to the point where he looked like he was MAMED. Look at these before and after photos. He looks like he just had surgery! My dog was sulking and sad for three days after we left this place. I complained to management and they did nothing. They even overcharged me for things I never agreed to. They didn't cut his nails, and I can tell by the way he was cut that ZERO care or effort was put into his grooming. Instead of brushing and trimming out the matts like other groomers, they just shaved giant patches out of him haphazardly. There are a lot of rumors out there of groomers that hate doodles. Nick from Petco is definitely one of those people. He insisted that I shave my dog when I brought him there. That should have been my red flag. Any groomer that tells you to shave your doodle doesn't know what they're doing or they're just lazy. Doodles get knots. Knots are easy to cut out without shaving the area completely. I've taken him to one other groomer and she cared for him and brushed out his matts and he left there so fluffy and happy! I was so wrong to expect that kind of treatment from Petco. I don't know what went on at that place but my dog was NOT the same after. Look at how sad he was on the car ride home!!! I've never seen him not happy. I can't tell you how upset it makes me that choosing Petco lead to this happy animal being depressed for three days straight. This place should not be allowed to be responsible for your animal. I trusted this company with my dog and I severely regret it.

Ringo lookin' gooood after being groomed by Nick L.

Ringo, an F1b Goldendoodle with curly fur, was behind on his grooming. He went in shaggy with some matting. Thank you, Nick L., for grooming Ringo. He came out happy and looking spiffy! We appreciate your time, talent, and especially the care you took with Ringo. While there I saw you showing various dogs, even those you weren't immediately working on, kindness and calm. After exiting the store I turned around, as I forgot something. Ringo was pulling to get back inside. Apparently he wasn't done thanking y'all. Says a lot when a dog is happy to go back right after being groomed. Ringo thanks the number of employees who stopped and took time to show him some loving attention.

I LOVE the Palatine Petco! Every chance I can get, I recommend them. Nick L is so patient with my sweet Kobe. He had been grooming Kobe for almost a year and had really gotten to know him. We also LOVE Breanna! She's a great manager and also really patient with my sweet Kobe. They both have helped me with tips and tricks to use for him at home and I can't even begin to explain how grateful I am. Thank you for taking such great care of my fur baby!

I came in and asked for a small aquarium that I can put on my desk with just 1 fish. It appeared, everything is not that simple. There is a bunch of little details that you should consider, in order to get a proper fish for certain environment conditions. So how did I choose it? there was a guy named Wayne, who seems to be sort of Zoo-Wikipedia. It seems like he has an answer and explanation for EVERYTHING, and he was extremely nice!! Long story short, the picture attached is what I got and thats exactly what I was looking for, awesome service, reasonable pricing, great overall experience!

Never had a dog grooming, I call to ask how much they charge to bring my dog in for a wash and brush. "FOR WHAT?" He blurts back at me irritated Again, I have never had a dog wash before and was curious. "I don't know, just like your normal wash and brush I guess?" "FOR WHAT, DUDE? FOR WHAT? HOW BIG WHAT BREED WHENS THE LAST GROOMING?" The guy really aggressively fired back. I just responded "I'm going to hang up now, bye" First of all, don't "DUDE" me you f--ing douchebag, I would be IMMEDIATELY fired from my job if I talked to my customers like you. How am I supposed to know what you mean by farting "FOR WHAT?" repeatedly out of your face. Second of all, your prices weren't listed. I literally didn't know this is how you factored pricing, so don't get aggressive with me for not knowing your intricate pricing system. Literally why I called, to learn how much to pay. Or in your words "FOR WHAT?!" If anybody has a dog grooming business that isn't gonna yell at you for not knowing their opaque pricing system I'm open. I haven't even posted a review in several years, and when I do it's generally go give praise. But this guy was such a Jagoff with a Capitol J that I wanted to save everyone else some time. I can't wait for the ChatGPT written response explaining how there must've been a misunderstanding (there wasn't) or they're sorry I wasn't a good fit and it's my fault somehow. I would never take my animal to a place where some dude is this quick to aggression FOR WHAT it's worth you knowing --------EDIT BELOW-------- thank you for taking the time to explain your pricing now that you've had a moment to compose yourself. However, you literally kept yelling "FOR WHAT?" when I asked you what you charged. Any normal professional adult would go " yeah it depends on animal and which service you're looking for" MY memory is off??? You are literally lying and attempting to gaslight. You responded "FOR WHAT?!" after I ask what you charged. I said I was unsure and your basic and you went "FOR WHAT DUDE, FOR WHAT?" And angrily started listing out a bunch of factors in rapid succession. I told you here I was going to hang up here because you were too angry to work with. My memory is pristine and I documented this immediately because I've never been talked to like this. "Making a mark" oh my God I haven't written a review in years and don't intend to again. I predicted you would blame this on me somehow, you got aggressive with me on the phone for not understanding your unclear pricing and now you're trying to gaslight and lie about the exchange. Thanks for the courage that literally anyone can be a business owner. If you want to take your animal to a business where the owner is going to argue with you and lie/gaslight your experiences to you instead of taking accountability, the grooming lodge is for you!

And it's important for your dogs to be cared for so if you only take them when things get bad with their coat it's a difficult fix that takes time. I found it best to set up regular visits as this really helps keep the dogs coats as they should be and the dogs get familiar with the process. My initial plan was to keep my Havanese with her hair long. Well it's curly to and I tired then decided it's best to let Andrea take care of it and it was the best decision ever. Like everything in life regular maintenance is required. Thanks for all you do !!!

Andrea is a phenomenal groomer who will not only groom your dog as asked, but treats your dog as if they were her own. Many times she has caught health issues that my vet couldn't find. There is never any judgment, just honest communication so you can address things if necessary. Down to the tiny bumps and lumps that most dog owners miss. If you have never groomed your dog yourself, you will never truly be able to understand the dedication, awareness and communication that is required to do this job. As someone who has attempted to groom my own dogs, the respect for Andrea is immense. If you love your dogs and consider them members of your family, Andrea is the groomer for you. There is personally not a single negative thing I could say about her (coming from a service based small business owner). Just book your appointment and you will see why she is the best in the area!

For some context, my dog was found in a forest preserve as a young dog and so she had very little socialization with humans. She was awkward around my friends and family but would quickly warm up and play with them. When I went to pick her up at the end of the week, I did the hour-long session with Mike, and the whole time I noticed she was cowering every time he would raise his hand or go near her. This was not the goofy, happy dog I brought it. When I brought her home, I didn't notice anything unusual, and I had some friends come over about a week later. My dog, who had met all these people multiple times, was growling and visibly stressed to the point that she nipped my best friend, thankfully no skin was broke but we were both shocked. Prior to this incident, she had never nipped anyone or even gotten mouthy during playtime. When I called Jen about this incident, she brushed it off as my dog "testing boundaries". I received no support or advice on how to handle this situation. Since then, she has become more untrusting of humans (other than me) to the point where I can't have people come over because of her fear reactivity. I'm now working with a behaviorist to work on these issues and get her to a place of being more comfortable around people. I always look back and think that if I hadn't sent her there, she would be a very different dog now. **I'd like to note that I've since taken her to a daycare/boarding facility that she absolutely loves, and everyone there loves her. I'd taken her there once prior to this board and train, and it is now my go to place for her whenever I'm out of town. They were shocked when I told them about her reactivity, as they've never seen her express those behaviors and she's extremely well taken care of.

I drive 20-25 min each way to go here--it is that special. Impressive: Immediately, you are offered a tour of the entire place--not just the kennels and play areas but also the back rooms. Nothing to hide. You see the grooming rooms, the laundry, the feeding prep room... Security is serious. Unlike a different place where I walked in off the street to find my dog unattended behind the front counter in the lobby, here, the front door is always locked and you are let in. No one can walk in. I like that security for the dogs--think of how many small dogs are stolen from pet stores and dog walkers. These pups are expensive and easy targets. The dogs go outside every day, unless the weather is really bad. It is quieter than all the other daycares I visited. The dogs bark, but it has never been extreme. The dogs get naptime (and optional lunch if yours eats lunch) in the middle of the day. There are many levels of care, not just one or two. My girl is a lovey dovey clinger and doesn't want to be with the high energy dogs. She will run and play for a small while, sure, but I don't bring her to daycare to "get her energy out." She normally rests a lot during the day at home, and I want the same at daycare. WLPI accommodates this. No reservations required for daycare--they are helpful but you can walk in that day if you are already registered/a customer. Sometimes life happens. I try to reserve when I know she is coming but I have had a time or two where I couldn't. White picket fenced corrals for boarding, not chain link fences or metal kennels. It is very homey. Our dog has gone many times, once a week and really seems to do well. The staff if very, very nice. We haven't used the grooming yet because I don't want to introduce anything possibly negative to her. We will get her there. For now she gets her nails trimmed locally because she hates it so much. I want WLPI to be all positives for her. The only thing I really wish for, is cameras like other facilities. I would leave her longer and more often if these were present. Cameras probably at least double the days that I go. Seeing her would let me know what she is up to and what kind of day she is having. If she is quiet, I would get her some exercise, vs if she is active, I would have her chill. Cameras would be especially reassuring for boarding. Password protected cameras help ensure that only clients can view the footage, especially if you update the password often.
