I just moved to the area and was trying to find a groomers so I decided to try it here. When I took my pup the lady said that she might not be able to do it because she had a lot of matted hair and that she might have to "split her ear" or some dumb thing like that. She made me sign all these papers and it sounded so serious. She still even called me to tell me she was going to try, after I left my pup there. Long story short, she didn't do anything and suggested I called the Vet. I did and the vet was confused to what she asked me to tell them. A few weeks later I drove to our old groomers and they were able to remove all of the stuff this lady didn't WITHOUT the whole fiasco. If your employee didn't wanna do the job I could have just gone somewhere they would. Don't waist your money here, seems like they pick and choose who they want to help. read more

Overall I was very pleased. There was great customer service both on the phone and in person. Considering it's covid right now they did a good job keeping things cleaned and keeping people consistently moving along quick. Getting them taken care of so they can go about their happy lives. I just needed some moss nothing crazy but ended up working out quite nice. The workers are super nice and helpful. Makes you want to go back and support. ONE STAR BECAUSE NONE ISN'T AN OPTION. On Sunday, I made an online appointment for Wednesday at 6pm. I was thrilled since my regular grooming place couldn't get him in for weeks. Yesterday (Wednesday) at 12:30pm, Petco called and left a message on my phone, I was working so I couldn't retrieve it until 1:15pm. Imagine my surprise when I heard: Hi this is Petco's grooming calling in regards to your appointment today. I want you to know that online booking allowed you to book a time that I don't have available. So I had to move your appointment to 3:00pm today. Now mind you, they sent me two notices on Monday & Tuesday asking me to give a 24 hour notice if I couldn't make it. Plus I recieved two emails reminding me of this appointment. Yet they call me ON THE DAY OF HIS APPOINTMENT AND RESCHEDULE IT during my working hours. In addition, while I was on hold trying to call them back, I heard no less than FOUR REQUESTS to use their online grooming site for BETTER SERVICE. NEVER, EVER will I support this company. read more

We brought our lab for a 12 (noon) grooming. At drop off was told she'd be ready in 2 hours. Went back at the 2-hour mark, was told it would be 30 more minutes. I told the young lady I wasn't willing to pay for an incomplete job, as she was offering to not finish the requested grooming. The grooming plus tip would be $110.00, not cheap. Went to pick her up 30 minutes later, the manager tried to tell me that as a living animal things take longer, if they are uncooperative. My dog loves to be bathed and given attention, she isn't the issue. The other young lady told me it was taking longer as they had three dogs before ours. Had they told me 2.5 hours before I left her I would have rescheduled, as I had a tight schedule. Manger told me I was being placed on a "no service list", and the time is a suggested time. Needless to say I won't be returning and I will gladly find a better business to pay $110.00 to. read more

Less than a month ago, on their app, I made an appointment to groom my C.C.Spaniel today. I answered every question about my dog. There was however no question if he had heart murmur on the appointment app. A few months ago, our vet told us our 10 and a half year old dog is generally very healthy but does have a mild case of heart murmur we need to keep an eye on. The vet did not even give our dog any medications. So, I took our dog to Petco for his appointment today, but in the paperworks, I was asked if he had any health issues and I truthfully mentioned what the vet told me earlier. I also showed them all of our dog's health record in print. I mentioned to the manager, who happened to be a very young and seemingly inexperienced woman, that i was willing, in writing, to take full responsibility for our dog's health. After all, we care about him more than the hair stylist and even the vet and if we thought he is in any way in danger we would have not write and sign the waiver. Nevertheless, I would have had a note from the vet with me today, if I was asked and informed about Petco's policy ahead of time. We planned for this day and invested our precious Holiday time to go there. So, I mentioned this to the manager and she tells me, "You are not a good fit for us any ways." I immediately felt insulted since I was very polite and I was only saying Petco should take some responsibility for our time they had wasted and the stress they had given us. I said, we could have acquired a note from the vet if we knew this ahead of time, but instead of trying to resolve a customer dissatisfaction issue, she says, "I don't control the computer (online reservation/The app)", etc.), you are not a good fit for us!" How did she determine we were not a fit for their business? She made this decision based on what? We were fully willing and paying customers, and we had all the paperworks they wanted us to bring such as the vaccination record. And, all I was saying was that the company should have informed us ahead of time (Similar to requiring our dog's vaccination records) so I would have had the note from the vet in hand, instead of wasting my time going through such stress with them. This particular Petco has the most amazing staff. Super helpful, full of great ideas for whatever you're trying to do, and very knowledgeable about their stock and inventory. The store itself is super clean, and pretty darn well organized. A good selection of common and middle grade pet Chow that is a bit above the common chain store. We like to shop here for add-ons for our five GSD, and the staff just love the mutts. read more

If I could give no stars, I would! I brought my 7 month old pup in for his 2nd grooming appointment. I arrived before the groomer (Siobhan) arrived. She appeared to not be happy about being there and having two appointments at the same time. She then questioned my dog's weight because he is a large dog. She then started poking and prodding at him without greeting him or being friendly at all and then asked if he's been cut before. I stated yes, last time with Eli but just around the face. She then continues to poke him and she then says "I can't groom him if he's going to bite and he's already nipping at me." I said, he's a puppy and you approached him with irritation and are quite unfriendly. He did just fine with the other groomer Eli last time. She then became more irritable and I said forget it. I'm not leaving my dog with you. I rescheduled for the next available with Eli. But, I am not happy that I had to take a day off work only to not have my dog groomed by a clearly disgruntled employee with an unhappy disposition. read more

As other reviews have mentioned, we received a call shortly after making an appointment online that the time we selected could not be honored-but the updated time worked fine for us, so we kept it. When we arrived, the two groomers immediately greeted us with displeasure as the puppy we brought in was a Bernadoodle and not a Bernese Mountain Dog as listed-I apologized and explained their system didn't allow for a mix-their response-it's just not what we expected-ugh-and all day has been this way. Then they demanded his Rabies certificate and when I showed it to them, they said they couldn't accept it because it was handwritten from a clinic-corporate policy-since we had brought him to Petco before I asked them to look under a different phone number, which they did, while remaining silent, typing away at the computer while I scrambled to find something else from the vet that might work-when I found it-one of the groomers said "it's fine." Then asked a few brief questions and took our dog. Pick up was equally as displeasing as she handed me a piece of paper and said-"pay at the front then you can have him." The cashier was incredibly friendly and wonderful-no complaints with her interaction whatsoever. I wouldn't give our groomer-Michelle-your business. I took my cat in for her first shots and the vets assistant had really long nails. When she proceeded to dig her nails into my kittens scruff to pull her out of the box it took every inch of self restraint between me and my husband not to stop the appointment and explain that in no world is that acceptable. She also held her down this way, neck to the dirty fold out table, terrified and in pain. I understand you don't know my cat or how it will behave but that is intolerable. I did not have a good experience here. When I took my dog in at my scheduled appointment time I was greeted by Elijah. He told me that he is off in a hour and may not be able to finish. He suggested I make a 2-part from appointment. I said well that isn't an option for a small dog. I left my dog and was called 15 mins later by another RUDE groomer named Sierra. Sierra said she can't groom my dog because she pooped and that she was stressed. I picked her up, wet, matted and not even brushed out. My dog is 5 and they said due to her senior age she was too stressed to be groomed. From the start they did not want to groom her. I normally support local businesses on the Monterey Peninsula but unfortunately due to the pandemic it was hard to get an appointment and that's why I resorted to using a commercial groomer. I feel that the lack of grooming experience caused caused this problem and I will not be returning. read more

Will never go here again. I've had my dog's grooming cancelled 4 times now. Twice last week and again today (the first was due to Covid at the store). My appointment today was the first they hadn't cancelled prior and just before they were taking him in they said they couldn't do it. The first time they cancelled last week was because the groomers car broke down (which happens) they rescheduled and cancelled because the scheduled groomer was in a training all day. This review is about the fish. I gave them two stars because the marine fish all looked healthy and well taken care of. The freshwater fish were a different story. Most disgusting pet store Ive ever been to. Petco is notorious for having terrible care for fish, but this was gross. I was looking at the beta collection, and was repulsed. A quarter of the bettas were floating from swim bladder disease, and the others sat at the bottom looking sick. I saw several who were dead. The one that stuck out to me was a dead betta, with its cup's water turned yellow. I cant imagine how long that dead fish must've been sitting there in that cup. I'll spare you the details but it was repulsive. It made me question how long the others were neglected of food or water changes. And it wasn't like it was hidden under a stack of other betta cups, it was in the main display of them. I dont know how an employee couldn't of noticed it. So bought a hamster here that died like 3-4 days later. When we brought her home she was stinky but we just assumed that we'd put her in a nice clean cage & she'd clean herself (because you're not supposed to give them full baths). We did a bit of spot cleaning, got her all cozy in the new cage & she was set to go. Well come just a few days later I go to give her a treat and she's dead. Don't want to get graphic but look up wet tail, it's what we think she had from the pet store. On part it's on me because I thought she looked unwell when we brought her home & she was stinky and had some red around her eyes I thought could be scratches (all seen after we had gotten home). The manager assured us that she was healthy and good to go though after a quick peak when putting her in the box. Brought her back to the store as they requested (gross but understand) and they gave us a refund. Which is the only reason for the second star. The thing is it was a 4 hour total driving to get all this done and I'm pretty disgusted after a second trip and a closer look in there hamster habitats. I won't be going to petco anymore, I'm just traumatized finding the hamster the way it was when it was dead. Sharing this so everyone takes caution when buying animals from them. read more

Friendly staff and clean store made it an easy run to buy some pet supplies. However when the cashier told me my total was $70 I nearly fainted. I got a tennis ball/chew-toy, a flea/tick collar, 2 small bags of treats, 1 cheap simple nylon leash and a little tube of flea/tick remover. All of this fit in one arm as I was checking out the King Beta Fish (which are usually like $5 a pop - $12 at Petco) in the fishy section. Anywho, so then I hit up Walmart. I have no reason to drive to Marina to go there but I go just to spend money that I don't feel bad about spending because everything is so cheap. This Pet Co always does a great job cutting my little Gizmos hair. He's a miniature schnauzer and his haircut can be very challenging but they manage to get it done right. I brought him in for a mini make-rover and they did his nails, cleaned his ears, brushed his teeth, and brushed his coat for only $20, this is great for the following month after his haircut. read more

I've had a lot of luck with getting good deals at this Petco. I was actually really surprised when I price matched between the Petco and Petsmart here, because when I was younger, I remember Petsmart ALWAYS being cheaper than Petsmart. Definitely not the case here, in my opinion. The 5% back thing with the PALS card is pretty cool, and the staff here always seem really helpful. I've had them come back to the cat toy section with me just to make sure I find the right toys that meet my requirements. Their clearance section at the front of the store is always good to look at, by the way! I've found a $40 carrier there for $9 in the package, no damage or anything. They also have lots of dog and cat toys there usually. It's up in the front of the store near the registers. Check it out! Hopefully you can find something you need at a good price. :) read more

My review is of the grooming salon :) The two sweet young ladies that work there are great with my Husky Zazu he's a typical Husky who loathes bathing and the ladies are always so sweet to tell us " Zazu was a angel " Most importantly, is they clean Zazu really well. Husky's have several layers of fur / fluff and they have to have their under coat " de- fluffed " which is quite a task also he smells like flowers for weeks.. Stopped by petco for a grooming for my Corgi, Luna. Petsmart does appointments only, so I decided to try petco. The grooming staff were super nice and were thrilled when Luna came in, they gave her all the pets and love. Gigi was my groomer, I told her my issues and Gigi recommended some services. I dropped Luna off at 1030am, and she was done by around 115pm. I told them to take their time, as I was a walk in and could do some shopping and grab lunch. Luna looks amazing!! The local store is bad; there are always dead/dying fish in the tanks and you can never find a clerk to help you. So bad I stopped going there months ago. But the website as far as "repeat" ordering is even worse. I tried Petco as Chewy, where I usually buy online, was having really prolonged delivery delays at the start of the pandemic, so I figured I'd try Petco. Mistake. Problems with almost every order, and overcharges that are almost impossible to correct, but this last time was the last straw. Last week I canceled a repeat order of canned dog food my dogs disliked (Blue Buffalo) after getting an alert that a repeat order was about to be sent. When I went to look, I was surprised to find it was for an order I'd canceled last month (with no plans to buy online from them again). Since I was running low on food, I decided to replace the brand they didn't like with a brand they did like. I mean it seemed straight forward--hard to screw up, just two flats of dog food. I also changed the delivery date. I double checked everything was as it should be: old order canceled (again), new order and new delivery date placed...or so I thought. What does Petco do? They not only charge my card early, but ship the product I'd canceled and of course this was all done so quickly that it was too late to cancel, yet again! When I called, I got the run around. Their customer reps are utterly useless. Asked to speak to a supervisor...they said someone would call back but of course never did. Tried to cancel future orders myself but was prompted to contact their "VIP customer service" first, so trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, I did. That rep was even worse. They expect me to return the unwanted dog food at my expense even though it is their fault it was sent, or stand outside waiting for UPS to arrive so I can refuse the order! And now I cannot get them to even cancel all future orders (they say they have, but the repeat orders still show up as active on their site, 3 hours later). And when I tried to return an unopened flat of dog food to the local store once I realized my dogs hated the brand (I bought two flats of Blue Buffalo, of different flavors), the clerk rudely told me they didn't accept online returns at the store, despite me having the receipt and it stating stores did accept returns on the website. Learn from my mistake: avoid buying anything online from them. If anything goes wrong (and it will), they refuse to fix it and you are out $$$. Go with Chewy. If they screw up, or your pets don't like the food, they refund your money, no questions asked. I'm now out $47 for food my dogs won't eat and Petco thinks an utterly insincere apology is sufficient. Will donate the food to the local SPCA but I cannot afford this kind of screw up on the part of a company. And I have no idea if they will continue to ship food I don't want/have repeatedly canceled in the future. Will never shop at Petco again and I urge others to be very careful when they place orders. read more

And here is why. First off their litter is almost ALWAYS cheaper then target or petsmart. I am always able to find the food on sale at least once a month and that makes me happy. I have the petco card and they know what pets I have so they ONLY send me deals on Cats. Not dogs or fish, like petsmart does. I find that the people at the registers are always nice and will take expired coupons for me. Past things fish people don't know what they are talking about ( I use to have fish) That is the reason they have only 4 starts instead of 5. After meeting several happy dog owners with well groomed dogs, I asked where they got the grooming done. They replied "Petco at Del Monte". I scheduled an appointment several weeks ago so I could have my golden doodle groomed right before dropping her off at the sitters before we go on vacation. We brought Maddie there today and was told that they would not remove some very minor matted areas because it would cause "brush burn". They said that they could shave her! We have had Maddie groomed elsewhere and her little mats were easily removed using a dematting comb. If this is their policy, then they should have let us know. They knew we had a golden doodle. Now Miss Maddie has to go to the dog sitters with long hair and needing to be groomed. We are very disappointed with Petco and will never go there again. read more

We took our new puppy to PETCO grooming this weekend. We recently rescued him from SPCA, so we were worried taking him and his reaction. Michelle was his groomer, and she was AWESOME and so caring!! She took time explaining everything to us...what we were getting in his grooming package and things we should get him. She did an amazing job on him. He smelled so good, and his coat was so shiny!! After we paid and went in to get him, she had him out in their front area, waiting for us. He looked so happy and content, but was extremely glad to see us!! As long as Michelle is there, we will continue to take him back. The other groomers seemed for nice and attentive as well, but Michelle just had a calm, sweet nature that fit perfect with our little guy!! Thank you, Michelle!! read more

Big box pet supply store. Smaller and with less of a selection compared to Petsmart. Plus, is it just me, or can their pricing be randomly crazy? Typically it seems very reasonable, but every so often I run across something, like a bag of kitty litter, or bag of dog Greenie bones, and find that the price is approximately $5 more than I'd pay at Petsmart. I generally don't like to blow money on nothing, so to be on the safe side, I stick to Petsmart or other local small pet stores depending on what I need. read more
