Carmel Groomers is the best pet groomer in the area. Trish, the owner, is wonderful, and my pup Leo is always treated like family. I really appreciate that there are no cages and that they only do what he feels comfortable with, which says a lot about how much they truly care. Their new location at the Barnyard is such a great move -- it's larger, roomier, and has easy parking, which makes everything so much more convenient. They even have cute dog jewelry, which is such a fun touch. They're also open on Saturdays, which is a huge plus. I truly would not recommend anyone else for pet grooming. Carmel Groomers Pet Salon does an excellent job with my extremely anxious 98.6 pound Mastiff/Pit Bull mix named Duke. Duke is willful, stubborn, and scared of his own shadow! He's also very strong, so if he doesn't want to do something, you're going to have a challenge on your hands. Bathing is one of those things with Duke. I've always bathed my own dogs at home. However, that has been impossible with Duke. After unsuccessfully attempting to get Duke in the shower downstairs, I tried to get him upstairs to my bathtub, but he's terrified of the floating stairs. I finally gave up and decided to search for a groomer. Not just any groomer can handle Duke though because of his size, and his fear of everything! This was our third visit to Carmel Groomers. In the beginning, our first time and during CoVid-19 shut down. At first it seemed wonderful. Very clean. I liked that. I met Trisha the owner. She seemed nice yet nervous. A very kind man, Salvador did a beautiful groom with our little 5 lb. Yorkie, named Ruby. However, when I picked up my 5 lb Yorkie, she had her ear nipped. Trisha blamed Salvador. He was apologetic and kind. "These things happen," I said. They had stopped the bleeding. I thought it would fill in. It did not. Ruby has a piece of ear missing. I haven't found a really good groomer in the Monterey Peninsula yet. I took her to Carmel Groomers because I couldn't find anyone else. She saw Marisol (not sure if this was her name) on Ruby's second appointment. She was young and I could tell she didn't want to work. This was when people were getting back to work from our CoVid shut down. So I went with it to help businesses. Little Ruby's haircut was "ok" and just not as good as I have had it in the past in East Bay. My little 5 lb. Yorkie is sweet, tiny and well trained too. Third time was not a charm. I called and Trisha answered the phone. We scheduled just a face trim, however, I needed to reschedule that appointment though for two weeks later. I spoke with Trisha on my reschedule call and asked if she could just schedule Ruby then for a full grooming appointment. When I arrived Marisol said Ruby was down for just a face trim. I said can you groom her completely because that's what the owner Trisha rescheduled me for? She said she had only an hour. Marisol asked what I wanted and I said I brought in a piece of paper to describe Ruby's haircut completely. Later on Trisha told me it somehow wasn't scanned into the record there. So I said to Marisol, well I can describe it again and Marisol said "No! Let me find a picture. We looked at the picture in her/work phone. I said can you give her a round cut around her nose? Can you tip her ears and make her paws real tight? Not to cut her hair too much on her bum? Just trim off the long hairs? Not too short? Marisol just look at me with disgust. Marisol had an attitude of disrespect. She hates her job. She doesn't really care for my dog or me. Or most likely no one else. I was being nice. Really. I picked my little Yorkie up one hour later. I looked at Ruby. Carmel Groomers does not know how to cut a Yorkie's dog's hair. At this time the owner, Trisha was there. I looked at Ruby and said, "This is not what Marisol and I talked about. Can you round out her nose. (It's the Teddy Bear nose) Could you please cut her tail a bit more?" They said ok. Yet both with attitudes. I said I needed to move my car. I am at the point at my 30 minute max parking and over two minutes. I quickly went to move my car. 10 minutes. Trisha was ticked off when I got back. I apologized. Marisol had her headphones on in the back. She was with another dog. I really don't know how people work "tuned out" with headphones on. I asked if I could have a different groomer next time because Marisol had an "attitude" and didn't seem to hear me when I explained how to groom Ruby. I said, "That's why I wrote it down. I know some people are audible and some are visual with instructions. I'll right it down again." Trisha became angry at me. I remained calm and said, "It's just miscommunication altogether." Then Trisha dismissed me and my little Ruby as clients. Little two year old Ruby was stressed from Carmel Groomers. Her eyes were watered up and she looked sad. She has been sleeping for 3 hours and is still sleeping. Ruby and I are disappointed.... read more

This is a great place. Chico, our anxious adorable 7 lb Havanese puppy, loves it. He just had his second grooming appointment. Both times he had a great experience (once I left the shop he forgot about me and enjoyed the experience!) The groomers did a lovely job, and paid special attention to his eyes, feet and other places where this little furball can get matted easily. (See photos) Most important, Chico likes coming here. I brought my new rescue in for a bath and haircut. He is a year and half terrier with a history of abuse. I was scared to bring him in because he has nipped my husband and I didn't want him to bite the groomers. I explained this and they were very understanding and kept for a couple hours before starting the grooming process to make him more comfortable. He looks great and feels so soft. This is a long review, for the short version skip to the end: My husband and I have been searching for a new groomer for our 8 year old Yorkie for a while. We decided to try Carmel Groomers based on their wonderful reviews. I called and scheduled an appointment for a Friday in September. The morning of the appointment his groomer called stating that she was sick and asked if we could do the following Monday. It happened to work out, but by a huge stroke of luck I had taken Monday off for an appointment already, otherwise I'm not sure I would have been able to reschedule. I understand people get sick, it was just that this was the first impression we were getting from this shop. The reason we left our last groomer was because she constantly rescheduled appointments, so I was a little concerned that we were experiencing the same problem so early on! When we did take him in we had a difficult time finding the place (behind Tuck Box) we dropped him off, we were told about 1-2 hours. We came to pick him up and his grooming looked great! As we walked out of the shop I noticed him squinting, it wasn't much and it slipped my mind while we walked to the car. In the car I noticed he was scratching his eyes. By the time we got home he couldn't stop scratching. We called the groomer to ask if anything had happened that would cause this to happen. She said that she did do a lot of grooming around his eyes and said that we should bring him back to the shop- that they have special drops for dogs with sensitive eyes. I called my vet to be sure that we shouldn't bring him in. Eyes are such sensitive organs, I didn't want him to cause damage to them. The office staff spoke with a vet and said that we needed to bring him in today. They squeezed us in that day. The vet stained his eye. Luckily no scratches to the cornea. But the vet stated that his eyes were extremely irritated and there must have been a lot of shampoo in there. I told the vet about the drops the groomer offered. The vet said that the drops weren't going to do it. After $111 vet bill, steroid eye drops and eye wash every 8 hours, a very stressed out an uncomfortable dog, and 3 days of him barely able to open his eyes, he started feeling more himself. It took a few more days for him to bounce back completely. I contacted the shop again to explain what happened. The owner did call me to talk about the situation. He did offer to pay for our vet bill. The reason that I gave them 2 stars: The grooming itself was great, but I feel like part of the grooming experience is your dog coming home and being able to live its life without major pain and discomfort brought on by a service you paid someone to do. I'm happy the owner of the shop did the right thing and paid for our vet bill, although through our conversation he made it clear that he did not believe my dog needed medical treatment which I, and my vet strongly disagree with. The short version: Grooming quality: 5 stars, dog comfort: 1 star. From my experience I can not recommend using this business. read more

I hate giving bad reviews. But - in this case, I must. Not only, did we get exactly opposite of what was requested, but, the owner's handling of my complaint was horrible... My cockapoo was shaved, after I repeatedly asked NOT to shave her, but call me if they couldn't just trim her. This was promised to me. They cut her face and tail off completely! When I picked up my dog, she repeatedly apologized to me with my upset response. Remember, she promised to call me if they needed to do more than a trim. She (Trisha) never did. Sal was the technician. He said that she was matted, which her ears were a mess, but, he said he could work around them... but, they are gone now. I sent Trisha an email later with my concerns, not only the shaving - but, my dog was acting odd. In fact, I believe she was in shock. She sat up all night with her eyes open, and then began pacing up and down the hallway. Her response was long winded, blaming and told me to go away. The dog Sal was working on when I picked up my dog, I noticed was handled very rough - and was screaming. I just kept thinking he may break that little dog's foot. So - take this information to heart. This is a new owner, who needs manners in customer service, but more so - training for technicians not to do what they want, but what the customers ask and pay for.... And, hopefully, the dog behind mine was not in shock like my 14 year old cockapoo (who, has been groomed every month all her life). Giving you all a heads up. read more

Mixed results for a large dog (100 lbs) - 1st time was great, 2nd time not so much - different groomer handling the dog. Comments from the groomer included "she is very strong" - ya think (for a 100 lb dog)? Confused dirty, waxy ears with an infection and used it as an excuse not to deal with them - I wound up having to clean them myself. In addition my Briard's face was sculpted to look like more like a Schnauzer than the breed she is. Within an hour of posting my review I received a phone call from the owner that was less than conciliatory, and quite defensive. Instead of asking what could be done to make the situation right, the caller challenged me to defend my comments and ultimately told me that we were not a good fit and that I should no longer bring my dog there to be groomed. I most certainly agree! Later, I received an email notice of a reply to my comments. The rebuttal was a rather subdued version of our conversation, meant for public consumption, but without the sharper tone of the phone conversation. Great service, very fair pricing, adorable shop! So happy we found a place who's pricing includes the works: bath, nails, ear cleaning and anal glad expression. We have a French Bulldog so she doesn't require any trimming but I would assume that's inclusive as well. Strangely, many other groomers in the area charge a base price just for a basic bath and charge extra for every little service that is usually included (at least in other areas that I've lived around the country). Easily made an appointment, dropped off the pup for a couple hours, picked her up and she was happy to have been able to play with the other pups there but more importantly she was nice and clean! My pup smelled great for days! The very nice groomer, Linda, did an excellent job and is very experienced! The manager was also very friendly and courteous. We'll definitely be back! read more

I went on prior reviews and they were great. I would take my fur babies back if i was still in the area. The were clean and very friendly staff. I tried this brand new business. I was embarrassed because our dog was horrible looking LOL. I asked for a puppy cut if need be due to severe grooming that needed to be done. When I picked up Honey Marie she was looking gorgeous and smelling beautiful. The staff is amazing and very patient. I highly recommend this business and I will definitely be back. I wanted to try a new place since my previous groomer moved. This is the second new place I've tried with my miniature poodle. First, I couldn't find the place. There is no sign on the street and nothing on the site that says to go into such and such patio and up the stairs. Then, once I found it, they didn't have my appointment on the books. The owner (I think) noted that he remembered our online conversation and when I brought it up on my phone, apologized. He called in another groomer and I was on my way. A few hours I came back and my dog was done. I asked for a few additional trims, which she did with no problem. Overall, I would say the cut wasn't any better than PetSmart. I was hoping it would be. The ears weren't even, her feet weren't evenly shaved and the ears hadn't been cleaned. The pros about this place for my dog is that they don't kennel. My dog is fearful of kennels and here, she can run around and go into the garden when she's done. But for the money, I think I'll stick with PetSmart and get her ears done too. read more

I have 2 Pomeranians that are both about 5lbs. I Requested a quote for 2 poms and received a response that the pricing was $75 with the detailed service. When I got to the groomer it appeared the pricing was for each pup. The miscommunication was resolved. They were kind enough to give me a one time deal of $55 per 5lbs Pomeranians, totaling $110. I got a phone call about less then an hour later that both of them were finished. I felt because I was charged less, my puppies did not receive the the full service, time, and attention my puppies would receive from other locations. Overall their haircuts are nice, but I'm not too keen about their service. To follow up with Carmel Groomers response, I have been to various locations that charge me $35 per pup. The pricing for $75 is not unheard of. Assumptions should not be made. Yes, I stopped by at 10:11, however please calculate the time I spent talking to the receptionist about the misunderstanding and filling out paperwork before my pips were taken care of. And yes you can provide all service advertised, but does not mean the 'quality', 'time', and 'care' are provided. In addition, of course no one wants their pets in a cage; in comparison moving from Neveda, my original pet groomers also had multiple people on staffed and were able to still continue to provide the quality, time, and care for my puppies, and great costumer service.
