This review is for management or whoever is responsible for buying products. Perhaps this is for corporate. Staff are friendly and nice. The issue is they aren't relaying my problem to corporate. I get Purina Pro Plan for my dog. I have attempted to come to this store for about 1 year now to get this item. The first time I noticed there were these worms attached to the inside seams of the bag. Somehow worms got inside the food as well. This was my first experience here. I told management about it. So now on occasion I come in and literally check the bags to see if they still have worms attached to them and every time I have come the worms are on all the dog food bags for Purina Pro Plan 30/20. I have told the person's at the register about 6 times now about it. This tells me someone either doesn't care or they are accepting that this is how it is. They tell me it's always been this way for that brand. But guess what!?!? Why at PetSmart that sells the same food not have the same issue? Never have I got worms on the bag or in the bag at PetSmart. Anyways, this needs to be fixed. Someone isn't doing their job and just accepting low quality items. When you set your standards low in life you get what you get, which is a loss of customers. Why not find a different place to buy from like PetSmart does? They never have any issues, why does PetCo? This is specifically for the grooming salon: I have quite a difficult dog who doesn't like her feet being touched and these folks have given her such care and tremendous patience! I believe the groomers's name is Cass? She's amazing and kind and you can tell she loves her work. Thank you for putting up with Zira and I look forward to our next visit. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. My wife and I called and set an appointment to get my dog groomed, chose this place because it was the only one available for our timing, so we drove over half an hour, and got a babysitter too so my wife and I could run and complete all other errands. Come to find out we get there and all of a sudden our appointment was CANCELLED! We were told see u soon and arrived with a sry about ur Luck it shows canceled not our problem, the manager mind you. We have a big Shepard, a lot of places tell us they don't do big dogs, my wife and I got the feeling that these people purposely cancelled our appointment because they were feeling lazy and didn't feel like taking on our hundred pound loving dog. There was absolutely no "let me see what we can do, no I'm so sorry this happened, nothing. These workers need a lesson in customer service but I suppose that's why they work with dogs rather than people. I've dealt with a lot of crappy people, these workers went even beyond that. A screen door on a submarine would be more useful than them. read more

Worst experience I've had at Petco's grooming salon. This review is specifically for the groomer- Sierra. Do not book with her. I've never experienced such incredibly disappointing and rude service from Petco until today. 'Per corporate guidelines' she says when I first dropped my (~18lb) dog off- that they will turn pets away if they show they are not comfortable or move too much during a 'sensitivity test' for their safety and I respect that- however, I called to check in to see how long my dog's appointment would be. She said he failed the 'sensitivity test' so he would not be getting a full groom just a bath but she was able to do his nails and remove a mat I had mentioned earlier. Then proceeded to tell me she had my dog with her presently and that he is about to be bathed but to be prepared to pick up my dog damp after mentioning kennel drying if he continued to buck because he wouldn't stay still on the table? Again, 'per corporate guidelines' asking for clarity- I said I was confused about her mentioning all these 'corporate guidelines' I didn't read up on and why I would pick up my dog wet? She then said, "you can just come pick him up now." Frustrated and confused as to why he was no longer getting bathed- I hung up and immediately went to pick up my dog. After speaking to Brandon (another floor staff member) he had told me she had already warned him to be prepared with an "upset customer about not getting her dog groomed." That was her attempt of damage control. I then went to pick up my dog from the salon, another nice woman assisted me in retrieving Sierra with my dog. Sierra comes out and hands me my dog without saying a word, turns around and goes to the back allowing the door to slam shut behind her without mentioning anything to me as I stood in the lobby for a couple of minutes alone like a fool confused again on what to do next like how and where to pay? This customer service or lack there of- is completely and consciously inappropriate and unacceptable. Will not be returning to this salon again. Corporate has been notified. read more

No wonder this place has 3 stars. My daughter and I bought a hamster from them in January and the salesperson, who helped us pick out our pet, told us he was 3-4 months old. He died a little over 3 months later in his sleep, despite the very best care (huge clean cage, healthy food, filtered water, calm environment). His passing broke our hearts. When I called to tell them this, and to ask if I could return the unopened bedding I just bought, the manager actually said, 5-6 times, "I hesitate to believe that the salesperson told you his age, we don't know the ages of our hamsters." I said, "So you're saying I'm lying?" She repeated, "no, I'm saying I hesitate to believe." I tried to explain to her that that means she's saying I'm lying but she didn't get it. Also, they don't know the ages of the animals they sell! Don't go here if you want a healthy pet. read more

I would definitely not go for dog grooming. Specifically using Shibon as a groomer. Just adopted my 2 year old dog 2 months ago, wanted to get her groomed for the first time. Showed up with her rabies tag on her collar and any papers I could find. Shibon told me this wasn't good enough she needed to see the expiration date. Without even greeting me or looking me in the eye, just tapping into a computer. I said I didnt have what she needed so I left, returned 5 minutes later with the expiration date she needed. Was told it was "too late" for my 10 am appointment at 10:10 am but did I want to reschedule... I said no thanks and walked out. Horrendous customer service. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service ever experienced at Petco. I took my dog in to get bathed the lady was so rude that I didn't even feel comfortable leaving my dog. I thought this was a one off experience so I rebooked with a different at the Petco location and again I had another awful experience. The lady said that she would not be able to bathe my dog because it had one small behind its ear, so I left the store and took her to a different grooming facility and asked if this was a normal protocol for bathing a dog and was informed that it was not and that the mat was so small. She should've been able to bathe the dog with no problems. Very disappointing always like Petco's grooming experience lately. It's been absolutely awful. I would not recommend. read more

TERRIBLE GROOMERS!!! First, they canceled my appointment 30 minutes before I was supposed to arrive. Then, they didn't even bother to call me back. I had to show up in person just to get a new date!! When I came back for a new appointment the young girl with the glasses told me my dog's grooming would take a ridiculous FOUR HOURS!! I thought I was dropping him off for a shampoo not sending him on a vacation!!! After three hours of nail-biting worry, I called and found out he was done ages ago- surprise, surprise!! When I picked him up, they had the gall to say he was "hard to handle." Excuse me?! This pup has been showered with praise at every other groomer and even at this exact Petco. If you love your dog, do yourself a favor and steer clear of this disaster zone. Your dog will thank you, and so will your sanity!! read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I've been to this Petco several times, and each experience has been disappointing, but the last visit was the absolute worst. What should have been a routine grooming appointment turned into a six-hour nightmare. When I stopped in to check on my dog, he happened to see me--which the groomer claimed meant she couldn't finish the appointment properly. The result? A butchered-looking haircut that I was still charged full price for. To make things worse, the customer service was appalling. The groomer, Jenny, not only delivered terrible results but also carried a rude, dismissive attitude. And when I tried to address the issue, the salon manager, Dory, was just as unhelpful and unpleasant. Very unprofessional exchanges by both of them. For context, my dog is 12 years old and has been groomed his entire life without any issues--until coming here. Clearly, this is not about my dog, but about the unprofessionalism and incompetence of the staff at this location. Save yourself and your pet the stress. There are plenty of other groomers who are far more professional, kind, and capable. This Petco grooming salon is a complete disaster. read more

I was in the store 02/07/26 and had an exceptional experience with one of their employees, Katee. She was friendly, volunteered extensive knowledge and tips on caring for my elderly hamster and offered positive, genuine conversation and a friendly smile. Something you don't get too often these days! It was a very encouraging and positive experience, and totally made my day. We arrived on time for our appointment for grooming, were told we'd have to reschedule. Went back for new appointment, was immediately told we'd have to get matted hair on one ear cut out by a vet and wouldn't take our dog. Matted hair on a Shitzu is not a fatal flaw! It just took a few strokes of our clippers and they were gone. What kind of a "professional" dog groomer can't handle this issue? For their service, we never get out for less than $105 or so, plus tip. Won't be going back there again!! The person with whom we interacted was dismissive and rude. read more

I need clarification on a matter. I have a 10 lb chihuahua/terrier mix, 20 1/2 yrs old, a few teeth left. I've been getting his nails trimmed at Petco in Monterey for almost 2 yrs now. None of the groomers had a bad thing to say about him until today when a young curly haired lady who works at the Petco at Del Monte mall..( assumed she's the head groomer?) told me my dog's a biter and they refuse to take him. Sooooo...wait!! 2 yrs of coming there and NOW he's a biter?? He can't even dent a marshmallow...I don't understand why, all of a sudden, she/the groomers have an issue. This one groomer, Jenny, never had an issue and said "he did great"...I feel they only want the "Foo Foo" upper class dogs there. Im so confused right now and probably will never go there again or recommend that place. Can Petco please respond and give me some sort of answer? read more

First time taking my dog to this place for grooming. Hubby was nervous that it won't be done right but I wasn't. ;) The cut was perfect! I have to say I wanted to hold on a bit longer to the rounder mustache (puppy cut) but Grayson just turned one this week so I let him have the old man look. I feel like he went from 0 to 60 in a blink of an eye. Kidding aside, checking in and out was quick and painless. I like that the grooming studio has a separate door from the outside and another one that connects to the store. The place looks clean and organized. Best of all, my dog was happy and excited when I picked him up. read more

Not surprised this store is rated about two stars. That's two more stars than they deserve. I spent the morning getting my dog kennel setup in my van and collapsing my stroller to store in the middle seat and getting my baby ready and in the van and getting my dog in the van and driving from Marina to Monterey to get my dog groomed. I already groomed her myself 2 weeks earlier because there is a two week wait for an appointment and I can't wait that long. Anyways drove all the way out there on a Tuesday morning and they said oh it's 10:47 your appointment was at 10:30 so we have to reschedule. No no we don't have to you want to because you are lazy and don't want to do your job. No I am not rescheduling, I am canceling. I will just do it myself. Your job is not skilled. I can do it in my backyard with a hose. Your crappy attitude lost your company $3,000 a year though, I can tell you that. So keep it up and let me know how that works out for you as a business model because I had two replacement stores in my mind before I even got there and your horrible customer service lost you a client for life. read more

A nightmare. Inexperienced and careless. I have a double coated dog. The used a deshedding shampoo. It wasn't thoroughly rinsed, so it was sticky and her coat almost completely fell out. They used a furminator until her skin was raw and actually scabbed over. read more

I debated for a few days on whether or not to leave a review because the store associates are usually very nice. Arthur I think is his name loves animals and always says hi to my pup when I bring him in. But I've taken my dog here for grooming a few times as I am a vital care member. The first time was okay. The second time was worse. They told me that my dog tried to bite them, the lady at the front with short, curly hair was so rude. He's a 20lbs pomsky and has never been aggressive. I thought "maybe he just wanted to sniff her hands and see what she's doing with his paws and she misunderstood it. Her job is to protect herself. I get it" The last time I took him was this past Friday. I booked him for a bath + shed release and asked that they do sanitary trimming and trim his fur between his paw pads. There was a really sweet younger girl in the front for his intake and I explained to her that he needed to be trimmed around his butt and his belly and his paws. She told me that it would be about 2 hours. They called me less than an hour later saying he was ready. I thought "that was really fast." When I walked in, the lady with the short curly hair was working on another dog and asked me what I needed. She told me to grab the paper folded with my dog's name on it and take it to the front. I thought that was strange since she wouldn't even let me see my dog first. But I didn't argue. I just paid it so I could get my dog back. When I came back, she brought my still soaking wet dog to the front who was excited to see me. She was so rude to me and him for being high energy and excited. She asked me to put his leash on so she could get back to her job which I was just trying to calm him down, so I could. She ended up just taking her temporary leash off and walking to the back while I struggled to calm him down by myself. As I was walking out I noticed that they hadn't done his sanitary trimming or trimmed his paw fur. With how excited he was to see me and hard it was to calm him down, I'd bet they're glad I didn't see how they treated him when I wasn't there. I'm also not exactly sure what all I paid for his grooming appointment as they didn't even do the main thing I took him in there for. I could bathe him myself, but he has a lot of long fur and I would like them to trim around his privates and his butt, so it's easier for him to go potty without making a mess in his fur. Which is what I asked for. The incentive of getting a free grooming done after you pay for so many isn't worth it when I'm not even getting what I paid for AND we're being treated poorly. read more

Vetco vet apt. Small set up, but efficient and convenient. Two clerks, two vet techs and 1 veterinarian Dr. Answered all my many questions, treated my fur baby with care. Drew blood, administered vaccines and oral meds swiftly. I appreciate the text reminders and digital vet records sent to me via email. I felt bad for all the staff when I saw another patron treat them with such disrespect. The staff was able to maintain professionalism despite it all. I have been taking my Golden Retriever for grooming for three years. Now she has bladder cancer and needs her normal bath and grooming. They will not do it. Please be aware that if your dog has a flesh-colored inner ear they WILL NOT take your pet for grooming. I have been their customer for years and was NEVER TOLD this until today's appointment that I waited for 6 weeks to get. The manager was called in and verified they would not groom my dog. When I asked if this was a new policy he demurred and said they should have told me when my dog was groomed in the past. Whaaat? They were nice but ill-managed. Incompetent groomers. Wanted to have a vet shave down my Pomeranian because they didn't want to brush him for 20 minute, which is how long it took me to brush out all his matting at home. Let me preface this review by saying I realize that I shouldn't be surprised there are bad groomers at Petco, but I lost my great mobile dog groomer and, many groomers (at the time) were too far or not taking new clients. Petco grooming was my last resort. A couple weeks ago, I took my senior Pomeranian, Ozzie to get his nails cut as his nails grow fast and his dew claw starts curling in. Julie was there to cut his nails. I waited and watched her through the glass. My dog was struggling, flinching and it looked like he may have yipped and was a little distressed. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt as she was nice and looked young. When she was done, she proceeded to try to "sell me" on just grinding his nails because his nails are black and it's difficult to see his quick (or cuticle). I was kind of surprised at this statement as NO groomer has ever said this and I took this as someone that is inexperienced and looking to "get out of" cutting nails. Again, a little bothered, I brushed it off. I took both of my dogs to get groomed this passed Saturday and there were, again, some subtle warning signs with Julie. There was about 8 dogs checking in all at 10 and I waited about 10-15 minutes to "check them in." Julie was there and I saw her attempting to cut another dog's nails who was crying and yipping. I had to wait until she was done to get checked in. I thought it odd that none of the other groomers would check them in to help her, and instead helped THEIR customers who were waiting after me. I didn't realize only the groomer can check in your dog (i'm being facetious, because that never was the case!). Ultimately, I dropped them off finally. A few hours later I got a call to come pick them up, but Julie told me that there was an "incident" with Ozzie. Basically, she said he freaked out and she couldn't finish grooming him. She did not explain to me what freaking out meant or what happened but explained she couldn't finish cutting his face or his nails. I didn't say much on the phone because I was pretty upset to hear this and I rushed over to go get him. I arrived there, and she was already working on another dog. There was a couple other groomers around. I was waiting for her to come show me my dog, and to explain what happened, but she just asked me to pay. I thought that was weird because she just told me she didn't complete the service and I was expecting at least a reasonable discount. Then some other older groomer butted in and gave me some BS explanation that it was a crazy day, there were crazy dogs, and thus somehow I'm beholden to have to pay her the full price and also implying somehow, it's my fault for booking this on a busy day like Saturday. She seemed a little bossy, and appeared to not want to fully explain why I have to pay full price for incomplete service. At the time, which I regret now, I opted to just pay and not fight the issue, because I wasn't sure I would be able to find another groomer as I had such a hard time finding one a few months earlier. I also even tipped her even though I was upset about the interaction. I finally saw my dog, and he looked OK. His face had long, straggly hairs, and his nails weren't clipped even though she told me she clipped three of them. It wasn't as bad as I thought but I still think a 10% or 15% discount would've been appropriate. I tried to explain this has NEVER happened and again they tried to blame the craziness of the dogs there. Julie also told me "Elvira was fine." This had to have been a lie, because Elvira was so freaked out once I got her. She was pulling on the leash to get out of there and she kept immediately sitting her butt down like maybe she got somewhere cut in her rear quarters. She wouldn't even let me touch her. I checked her and couldn't find anything. When I got home, I called them back to ask if something happened with her and whoever answered the phone was very rude and flatly told me "no she was fine when she was here." I was so pissed I just hung up because they clearly don't care about dogs, they were complaining about customers, and don't want to do a good job or provide adequate training. If for some reason you have to go here, DO NOT pick Julie as your groomer. She's not good with dogs, she is inexperienced, and she clearly doesn't know how to cut any dogs nails. I will not be taking these dogs back because they were both very traumatized from the experience. Again, I've been very fortunate to have really good groomers and it's always sad to lose a good groomer, but I know it's tempting to go here because it's cheaper than most other places, but it's NOT worth it for your pets well-being. My dogs have been groomed by groomers from LA to San Francisco and in between and they've all said what good easy dogs they were to groom so I know it was Julie who was the problem. read more

worst customer service ever. avoid at all costs. came in for just a bath and gave them some special shampoo to use from the vet. they said it's a $10 extra charge to use OUR supplies. I questioned that but agreed to it. then they said his ears were matted and needed to be shaved as part of the bath and it was another $10 extra charge. I pointed out that his ear fur was extra long because they didn't cut it at his last grooming. and that they nicked his tail which caused an infection and a $800 vet bill. they then told me to leave with my dog and not come back. when I asked for the names of the groomers they said they would not tell me. I said that was bullshit. they threatened to call mall security because I swore. I left but should have stayed to have a conversation with the mall cop about an adult swearing in a store, as if they care at all, just for the fun of it. avoid this place. find a local business to support. read more

I've been using other grooming facilities around the Monterey area & have had some issues with some of them, the reason being that I have a Terrier that doesn't like to be brushed or have his nails trimmed. So, I wanted to give Petco groomers a try! I'm VERY pleased with the facility, staff, & Dori the manager who is an excellent groomer and she was able to brush him & slowly trimmed his nails too. I'm using this facility from now on! read more

This is such a great store for dog owners and other pets. The staff are always friendly and eager to help you find just what you need. I have bought everything here from pet brushes to shampoo to flea collars. I also buy all our dog food here. They have just about anything you will need as a pet owner. read more

Most of my encounters have been positive but twice now I have been denied my 20% discount even though I have vital care. And the other day I came in and asked for help in Aquatics. When Jeremy showed up, three of us were waiting. He glanced at me and the other woman and immediately started helping the man. When I informed him that I was the one that asked for the help and the male customer was after both me and the other lady, Jeremy ignored me again. The customer actually felt compelled to apologize on his behalf. When Jeremy finally helped me, not so much as an apology. Additionally, I had to start taking my dogs and cats to the SPCA for their vaccinations because the clinic has been at least an hour late each time. Again, no apology nor even a discount for the wait. read more

The worst customer service ever. I booked an appointment 3 weeks ago for my two dogs for a bath and haircut. I get a phone call on the appointment day (1 hour before the appointment) by the lady called Cierra and she tells me she has only two hours and can't give a haircut for my dog. Not only she tells me 1 hour before the appointment, she has a tone and attitude with me that she has only two hours, which is NOT MY PROBLEM. I made this appointment 3 weeks ago and you guys can't even find other people or figure things out for a customer. Total worthless, unprofessional, never use them. Petco, you need to get rid of her. This review is for the grooming service. We brought our puppy in for a previous service, and it was great. The groomer (I'm so bummed I couldn't catch her name) was so kind, and made our doggy feel comfortable. Her haircut came out great. Cut to our next appoint with Siobhan. I walk in and she immediately asks how much my dog weighs. She explains that due to her pregnancy, there's a weight limit that she can work with. No issue for me, I understand. It was was just awkward standing there while they tried to find another groomer for my dog. They decide Siobhan can start while the other groomer has lunch. Cool. No issues. That's when the rudeness starts. By her comments, attitude, and demeanor- she was clearly trying to send my dog home. My poor dog didn't even want to go back there with her, and she really didn't try to be kind and calming either. I was SO close to canceling the whole thing- but my doggy really needed her hair and nails cut. It left me in such an awful mood, so I had to go back to the reviews and see if I was the only one who had the same experience- and no! It seems to be a repeated thing, and it's a disappointing that management doesn't handle it. read more

We needed to replace a 29 gal aquarium, there were good on-line prices, so I ordered everything on-line and went to pick up the order, it was waiting there for us and the manager helped carry everything to our car. We started chatting and he mentioned other things we might need. We went back into the store and he helped find what we needed. And at check out got the same discount as if we had ordered on line. Great customer support. We will keep coming back. read more
