Montebello Petco is a fun place to shop and learn about fish. I always get good advice and recommendations. Mitchell and Raquel don't just sell me fish, they also educate me. Mitchell always has a smile and gives me the best service. I've been to other Petco. This Petco is the best!!! read more

Bought a dog crate and it turned out to have a defective gate. Without question, they replaced the gate. No questions, no bs, just a quick and easy response. Also, they knew their stuff!! GROOMING: HORRIBLE. DISHONEST. Came here for the $20 puppy package including FACE trim that they advertise. When I got there, the lady tried to upcharge me by saying he's matted. Okay dematting is $7. He wasn't really matted btw, it was one tiny tangle. I agreed anyway. (Our groomer's name was JESSIE. DONT BOOK HER) But then, she said I also HAVE to add on the spa package because he's matted. I asked is it a requirement? And she said yes, because he's matted. Otherwise we can't get the matts out. Uhhh, isn't that what the $7 dematting is for? Later I found out online that the spa package has nothing to do with the mats. It's for a "scented spritz" and "teeth brushing." She didn't brush his teeth by the way. Alright so afterwards, she said she couldn't trim the face. Only the mouth. I told her that one of the main reasons I came was because his hair was growing into his eyes. She said "okay I'll try, but he wasn't having it." Uhhh then why are you charging me for it? And aren't you trained for that? (Remember I paid the extra for the face trim). So anyway I watch her trim the face since I was there for the ending, and he totally was fine! She was just lazy. DO NOT COME HERE if you want someone honest. I'm a regular at the El Monte Petco, and they quote me the correct advertised price. But not here. I asked her how much a haircut is here, and she said "67" because she doesn't wanna do it. At El Monte, it's $40 by the way. I'm not opposed to higher prices. But I AM opposed to dishonesty. Just be upfront with me and actually DO what you say you will. UPDATE: my friend also tried to make an appointment here. He was quoted $50 for the bath and cut. After telling them he had a 50% first time customer coupon, the SAME lady said "ooh actually I read it wrong, it's $90". They definitely work on commission or something....... Anyway, I put 2 stars instead 1 because the dog trainer is FANTABULOUS. read more

I bought a lizard here, and the female worker here has a bad attitude, which made me feel like I don't deserve to have a lizard. I wanted to make sure that I am getting a female lizard, so I asked her if she knows their gender, and she told me she is not supposed to say to the customer the lizard's gender. So I asked her to grab a lizard to investigate their gender myself, and she gave me a bad attitude. Within a few seconds, she put the lizard back in the tank, and I wanted to have a better look at the lizard so I can make sure that it's a female and she gave me that bad attitude and told me that she couldn't keep doing this for me because the lizard gets stressed. I understand that, but she showed it to be less than 30 seconds, and I still couldn't figure out if the lizard were a female or male. I bought a female lizard yesterday at another Petco, and I didn't want a male lizard because I don't want them to mate. She was not helpful at all but just gave me some attitude and told me that they could not guarantee the return of this lizard even though this lizard has some problems because I am not buying a cage with it. I already told her that I bought a lizard yesterday, so I already have a tank. She wrote, "no guarantee," with a red marker on my receipt and the box for me. I was not happy walking out of the door with my new pet which supposed to be happy. read more

My family and I went today for the reptile rally that was hosted today. I was so impressed with the entire reptile section. Every single cage was so clean and had a habitat that was appropriate for the animal that was in there! The animals are obviously well cared for, loved, and healthy. They have a solid selection of reptile supplies and great tank options as well. The reptile specialist, Wendoline, was so very helpful and very knowledgeable about the reptiles. It's always a huge plus to leave a store with knowledge that you didn't have going in, and Wendoline definitely supplies that! If you are in the market for a new reptile friend, don't hesitate to go see Wendoline at Petco. You will surely find something that will be a great match for your family!! The best part is you can leave here knowing you got a great family pet that was well-cared for and loved!!! Don't forget to check out the chinchillas too! So, so cute - it's my next dream pet! read more

Very disappointed with Petco in Montebello. They're always out of stock, they never re stock their merchandise and their empty shelves make them look like they are going out of business. One of the flavors has had a Blue sticker and been out of stock for over 6 months now. I've been very patient and brought up the issue many times to different managers and the problem does not get resolved. So I went to Petsmart, they were fully stocked and better pricing (.20 cents cheaper per can). My only regret was not switching sooner to Petsmart. I have attached a photo from Petsmart and Petco, you be the judge. And look at the price difference on the 4 lbs bags, $3 dollars cheaper at Petsmart! read more

Came here yesterday with my boyfriend to buy his dog a tag. They have an automated machine to make the tags and was really easy to use. You buy tokens at the register, insert the tokens in the tag machine, then personalize the tags. The blue tag we bought was $8. Then we bought some Greenies for his dog which are doggie treats that also clean your pet's teeth. Bought a bag of 22 treats for $11, which isn't too bad I guess. The store seems pretty well-stocked with food, toys, and pet necessities. They also have a lot of fish, birds, rats, mice, and hamsters. We went on a Sunday night and it seemed pretty packed with customers, which I rarely see in a Petco. read more

Grooming Services start at 8am not 9am as the store does. :) I usually take my dogs here for their grooming. I would say price wise, it isn't too much. They don't really charge a arm & a leg for services. You can also bring your own shampoo & conditioner for your pet if they require any special one. They also do nail trimmings & hair cuts, but my dogs are short hair. The store itself has a lot of the same items as many other Petco stores. I only look in the dog aisles. Service: The people here are friendly and helpful. read more

This a review for the customer service at the grooming salon and it will be a long one! So I took my dog here for the first time because it was a little closer to my house than where I usually take her and the app had a 20% discount for the first groom, so it was a nice incentive. Customer service is completely incompetent and out of the two times I had to reschedule, my dog didn't get serviced a single time!! The first time I went, I forgot to take the rabies certificate, which I'll admit was my fault, but they weren't even willing to let me pick it up from home and bring it back. They had to reschedule me for the following week and this visit wasn't any better. I showed up with the certificate and then they tell me that they can't give my dog a shedless treatment and a haircut at the same time, and that I would have to schedule a separate appointment. The guy that was supposed to groom her then comes to talk to me and we start sorting out days to schedule another appointment and then once I do so he tells me to have a nice day. At this point I'm confused and asked if she wasn't still getting a bath and he said no that that's why I made a different appointment. I was fuming at this point and left because I couldn't believe that even with an appointment, my dog couldn't get any services. If there were special cases like that then they should make a note on the app or call owners beforehand to go over the details of the appointment. Instead, I showed up like an idiot only for them to turn me away again and wasted my gas. The workers have no idea what they're doing and seem to love to give everyone the runaround. Needless to say that I will never bring my dog here again and will stick to PetSmart where they never fail to service my dog and listen to all my requests. read more

I live right down the street from this petco, and it is true that the staff here is great. I took the puppy training course and I my puppy and I had a great time learning from jasmin, who's a great trainer. Generally, I would give this petco four stars, because it has great service but prices are too high. You can find most the items on amazon for way cheaper, but today I had a nice surprise. I wanted to get a play pen for my puppy, and before I got to petco, I checked the price on amazon to be 25$. I get to petco, I ask the man at the register where the playpens were, and he pointed me to the back left of the building. I get there to find the item I want to be 75$! As I am leaving petco, he asks me if I found the item I was looking for, and I told him I did, but it is MUCH cheaper online. To my surprise, he said he would match the price! So I pulled out my iPhone, looked up the item, and even though it wasn't the same brand, it was the same height and and length, and he gave me the 75$ item at petco and matched it for 25$. Needles to say, I was a happy customer. The man's name was Creighton, and he got his petco 5 stars from me on yelp :) read more

Had a very unpleasant experience with an associate (Estefany) while shopping for a Chameleon and crickets today. At the counter I first tried to order 20 crickets and was told we could only order 10. We stood in line separately and paid for 10 crickets each. Estefany then told us that we would have to wait because her associates were helping other people which we mentioned was not a problem. After waiting aside for about 10 minutes a separate Associate came by and we asked if he can help get the crickets. He proceeded to go get them and instead Estefany left her register to go get them and only brought back 10. She then explained to us that she couldn't give us more than 10 because her animals in the store needed to eat and there was not enough to give us the additional 10 we already paid for. We voiced our concern regarding her unprofessional behavior towards us given that we had already paid for the crickets and she was now telling us they were unavailable since "her" animals needed to eat. I told her it was strange that we had just purchased a pet from the store and were now being restricted from buying him food since "her" animals in the store were apparently a priority over the one she just sold us. I asked to speak to a manager and she explained that she was the manager. Which was even more shocking since you would assume she would carry herself in a more professional manner and assist her customers for the sake of the business and wellbeing of customer pets. I will definitely be calling to discuss this situation with the corporate manager that she reports to. We usually always go to Petco for our pet needs and it is unfortunate that we will not be going back after this experience. I hope Estafany finds a job she enjoys soon for herself and for the future customers of this Petco. Not surprised the comment from a month earlier is regarding the rude employee with the "purple hair". At least I won't take it personal and just assume this is Estefany's trending personality read more

I frequent this place because is it right up the street. I like somethings Petco has to offer. I don't like their prices though. I think a lot of their items are way over priced for what they are. I have found the same thing at Marshalls for half the price. Random comparison but I'm trying to make a point. I do like that it is always clean and the sales associates are always friendly and walking around the store. They carry Solid Gold which is a natural, holistic brand dog food that we really like. I've seen it at non chain pet stores but its more expensive. I like that they have coupons on some of the receipts you get back. Two dollars off is nice. Its better than nothing. I usually use that towards the dog food. I also like the treat bar they have. You can let your pet try them to see if they like them. Like a dog isn't going to like a treat. And they are very inexpensive so you get a big bag full for The last time we were in there, there was rep for Natural Choice Crunchy Treats there and she talked us into to trying them. Not actually eating them but getting them for our pup. Their made with real apple and they smelled like apples. I actually wanted to try one they smelled so good! Lol... I'm glad we got them because they are all natural and contain no wheat, wheat gluten, corn, or corn gluten, and no artificial crap. Our dog loves them. I'm sorry but if your feeding it to your pet, it should be good enough for you to eat too. I will never feed my dog something that has on the label, "not safe for human consumption." We take him to the grooming department there too. We always go to Joe. He is awesome and truly cares about your pet. He knows what he is talking about and he whenever we pick up Larry, Joe always tells us if there were any fleas or ticks (which there never are thank you very much), or if he had dry skin and he always takes the time to tell you what to do to take care of or treat a problem if there is one. We really like Joe and appreciate every thing he does for us and our Larry Bear. I recommend Joe if your coming here for a grooming. Petco is a pretty cool place and they have a large selection of items for your pet. It is also a good place to come wonder around for an hour if your waiting on the vets next door or your girlfriend at her her martial arts class next door. Hey, it's where the pets go.... read more

Stopped by earlier this month to get my puppy V.Mach some more dog food. He just won't eat anything so we needed some help and I have to say we went to the right place. A sale associate went above and beyond my expectation. She gave us a quick lesson on how to read the ingredient list and what to look for if we wanted the best for our puppy. And we learned an interesting little fact about dog food and dogs that are white. You know that dirty stain they get down their eyes that you can't get rid of? Well that's caused by the ingredient beet pulp that's in the food. Who would have known? I sure wouldn't have if she never told us. She introduced us to a great puppy food that my puppy loves AND he no longer have dirty eyes haha! Kill two birds with one stone.. heck yeah! read more

I came here to buy puppy food for my 2 adorable babies. I was lost, I didn't know what kind of food I should buy for my babies since they're so young. I met Virginia, she's one of the managers they have at petco. She introduced me to the best food she knows, since she also just had adopted a new born puppy. She also taught me how to potty train my babies, "quite simple yet a lot of time consuming" she said. At petso, they also have puppy play time, for dog to meet dog, and play around with each other so they won't be shy later on. Petco also have grooming service. Depending on what type of service you need and how big your dog is, they charge you differently. They also have a animal hospital right next door called vetco. I took one of my baby here to get vaccinated, and 3 vaccines costed $64. I was like wow, that's a lot. But as long as she's healthy I'm fine with it. Overall, the service is fill with awesomeness. They have varieties of dog food and pet stuff you can always get. A bit over price so only deserve 4 stars. read more

Avoid their grooming services. Made an appointment at 9:00am lazy worker named alexa who did not even bother wanting to work that day. Starts degrading my dog (1year old spitz) after taking a hands off examination. Claims that my dog was acting erratic after we left the area to shop in their store AFTER she told us she was good to groom. I get a call from her saying she won't groom my dog. Keep in mind I walked in with a pit bull getting his nails trimmed and hollering in the background. That groomer continued to trim the pit bulls nails and the whimpering continues. Overall, lazy groomer experience we all have our days but do better please. Ended up taking her to petsmart in Alhambra their services were so amazing. Completed the hands off just fine asked about my spitz behavior at the end and was told she was calm but did show nervousness when scissors were present near her face. This place is constantly bringing in new employees, who don't know what to do. If you need anything in aquatics, expect to wait an hour. I'm not exaggerating. The past few times I've come with my husband, we make several attempts to get some assistance. And no one ever shows, which makes us ask for someone for another time. After an hour and a half yesterday we finally gave up and left. And of course the cashier (who I asked for help before) watched us leave without a care. Several girls working were wandering, trying to look busy by adjusting dog food cans, or straight up disappearing. It's not their fault if they're not trained, but TRAIN THEM. It's not hard to get fish. But I guess it is for them when their fish are constantly being quarantined. The employees obviously hate their job, but they make it hard on themselves. Keep Ludwin and Marc around. They're the only ones who know what they're doing. Goodbye PETCO, hello PetSmart. Went there and asked if we needed help the minute we walked in. read more

Today my dog had a grooming appointment in the late afternoon. Since it had been extremely hot outside, my dog was indoors all day up until his appointment. When he arrived, he peed like usually but too much for their liking. They claimed my dog's urine smelled and he possibly had a urine infection. They refused to groom him. They also claimed he was clawing in the kennel. Well obviously because what dog wants to be in the kennel. My dog roams our place freely. Anyways, the female employees said they can't groom him under those conditions because he was stressed. I have never had that problem when I booked an appointment with Alexander. He always does an amazing job and not one complaint. These female employees were also complaining that since his appointment was at 330, they weren't sure if they would have enough time since they closed at 6. Why offer late afternoon appointment if you can't commit. Anywho, I complained to the manager but that was pointless. They're all a bunch of lazy ass employees who didn't want to work. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. It's unfortunate because we really liked our experience with Alex. So long Petco. Stay away future customers. I would give them a zero if I could. read more

Petco it's where the pets go. I get that little saying from their ad in my head every time I visit that friggin place. To Whom it may concern: Your Montebello Store on Montebello Blvd. has Roaches. I told a clerk over three weeks ago about the problem. I returned yesterday, Sunday, to buy my dog food and once again the roaches can be seen crawling around the bags of food. What was even more surprising the only two bags left of the brand I buy had holes in the bag closed up with tape. Was I to buy a bag that may have been contaminated with roaches? I spoke to the manager on duty and told him of my disgust with the lack of action on your corporation's part. I really feel there is a lack of caring or maybe your staff feels that the consumer will not say anything. I went to the West Covina Petco and bought my dog food. I noticed that the store was cleaner and more organized. I will not return to your Montebello Store again! read more

I want to give the groomers part of petco 1 star but I'm giving 3 stars because the stylists that work there are so very nice. I just took my dog to this location for a bath and nail clip/file and I just got home and noticed they didn't clip two of her nails. I live in downtown LA so it's super inconvenient for me to drive all the way back to montebello to get two nails clipped and filed plus she won't let me cut them so now Im forced to pay for another nail clipping/filing closer to where I live.
