Came here to get flea medicatiom at vetco. Didnt set up an appointment because we thought you could just buy it. They took us in anyway. To get flea medications, your kitties would need to get a free check up where they get weighed. 1 of them is under 6 months so we could only get a 1 month supply, while our other boy is almost 2 years so you can get 1 month to a year supply depending on which you prefer. The vets and vet tech were so nice to our cats. One of them kept trying to sqirm away. Customers here are also so poilte. When theres a line for vetco, pet owners space themselves so other pets dont get scared. They had a clearance section for christmas items. We got a couple of lambchops on sale :) Also saw lots of cute kitties up for adoption. read more

I am writing to formally report a tragic incident involving my bulldog that occurred at your vetco clinic on March 21st, 2026 During a visit for routine vaccinations, the veterinary staff attempted to draw blood and administer medications. The staff appeared unable to locate a vein and pricked her repeatedly. Even had to change needles and weren't successful at drawing her blood. This process caused my dog extreme stress and respiratory distress. I had to rush her to an emergency veterinary hospital immediately afterward. They administered cpr, but unfortunately, they were unable to resuscitate her, and our fur baby-girl died. I believe the lack of professional handling and the repeated unsuccessful attempts to draw blood directly led to her death from overwhelming stress and lack of oxygen. I am not seeking to get compensated I am only trying to make awareness of this situation to others that may have bulldogs or similar hard to breathe breeds, to be careful and don't really on all vets to have your dog best interests at heart. read more

Absolutely horrendous treatment of small animals. Specifically went in for a jumping spider the person that helped me was a female employee with a short spiked hair cut. This employee proceeded to tap the poor jumping spider boxes extremely hard trying to "see where they were" i had to point out that 3 of the five they had were dead. The spider that was alive was TINY and they had a huge cricket in their small box for them to eat which is impossible. Awful sad cruel experience. Extremely disappointed. Also the whole store was a complete mess with zero effort in shelf organization. Would give negative stars if i could. read more

Horrible service, made an appointment for my dog to get a bath. I even got the confirmation text, once we arrived at 1pm the manager she stated they had no groomers. We asked when she found out that she didn't have any groomers, she stated a a few hours ago. Common sense would have been to call and let us know. We drove 1 hour in traffic. Came in towards the latter end of operating hours on a Sunday to pick up some dog & fish food. Prior to checkout I noticed there was a 10% off for placing online but picking up in store. Thanks to Matt and Ludwin, I was able to coordinate the pick up and purchase of the pet food I needed all while scoring the discount. I went in for sand for my Red Ear Sliding Turtle. Nicole, who shares the same name as me was very nice and helpful. She gave me options for my turtle's environment and she also helped me carry the 20 pound bag of sand and she helped me decide on an aquarium tank that was 10 gallons more than the tank I had. She helped me carry the tank to my car and I really appreciated her help since I have chronic back problems. My turtle seems so much happier in a larger tank with sand. Also, another employee had assisted me in gathering everything I needed such as a heater, thermometer, screen cover, lamp, bulbs and filter! I was also assisted in buying a rock with a cave! Don't waste your time if you have a bulldog. I took mine in this morning, and they refused to bathe her because she has a congenital back issue that all bulldogs have. This is the third time I've been in the store and sincerely the groomers look miserable: dead serious, no smiles, no customer services skills. It's only convenient because they are close. It's also clear they're afraid of the management, because they didn't want to even talk them about my dog. If they were going to refuse to bathe my dog, I really wish they would've done that before I brought her over there. UPDATE: Petco responded. My dog is not old nor is she on medicines. Grooming Manager of the grooming department I think her name is Alejandra was not there when I went back to pick up my baby dog. I had to wait for one of the other ladies to bring me to cashier for me to pay then come back to grooming department and wait for the ladies to be able to finally bring my dog to me. Also she scrapped all paws of my dog. She is an indoor dog and never goes outside. Her paws were cut at the bottom. It made me so upset she hurted my dog like this when i keep her safe indoors. Never really had an issue with the Petco same day delivery until two weeks ago when I placed an order for dog dry food, the DoorDash driver delivered to the wrong address and I contacted Petco directly and they told me there was nothing they could do on their side which was disappointing to hear, on the other side I could not contact DoorDash either because the main provider was Petco. Don't even bother trying to get your pet groomed here if your dog is older or has any kind of health issue. I was declined the first time because I didn't have a note from my vet that my dog with a heart condition could get groomed, then the second time with the note from the vet they still declined it, probably since it was "a weekend and they were so busy" already. Top notch customer service and expert grooming service. My dog was a few weeks overdue for grooming and I was looking for a same day appointment. My regular petco had no availability and the 2nd nearest (back up) petco had one appointment available. However Montebello had several times available. So I decided to try Petco in Montebello. This Petco is furthest from my house than the two I normally shop at, but this Petco will definitely be the one I will be coming back to. The level of customer service I received was top notch. I brought Itzy (my dog) into grooming and was welcomed by two very friendly stylist. I was nervous about leaving Itzy for grooming at a new place, but they made the process easy and I left feeling comfortable that she was in good hands. A few hours later I got a text letting me know Itzy was ready and had done really well. I picked up Itzy and was welcomed by a whole room of stylist that were super all super friendly. Itzy was very excited to see me and while usually her excitement is only special to me, the girls all made really sweet comments. It was kinda sweet for them to acknowledge that. My stylist was Grecia A and she did an A+++ job of grooming Itzy.Itzy's nails looked really smooth and even. I could tell she gave some attention to brushing her teeth really well. I could not be happier. And I look forward to bringing Itzy back in a month for another grooming with Grecia A. read more

This review is for their online pick up process. I placed an order online for a few things because I thought it would be pretty quick. No curbside pick up available. The online pick up station is to your right as soon as you walk in the store. I didn't see it when I walked in and there weren't any signs to help. I stood in line to get help. There were a few people ahead of me. I noticed their small sign while I was in line. I left the line to go pick up my order. No one was there. The cashier saw me so I thought she would call someone to help. 10 minutes later and not one person came. I went to ask the cashier for help and soon realized that no one else was helping her. I didn't see any other employees. She looked overwhelmed. She was the one handling the line and online pick up. Poor thing. There should have more people helping customers. I am better off just going in and getting the ite.s off of the shelf or goin to a different pet store. read more

I've been here a handful of times... and honestly wish I lived closer. The service here and friendliness of all the employees is great . I've been to my neighborhood Petcos and don't get the great vibe I get from this one. I particularly look over the reptile sections and they are well managed, clean and eye pleasing. You can tell that the reptile specialist here takes good care of the pets and their specific needs. And every time iv had a question or if I would like to see something the Reptile care person, Wendoline is so helpful. She really takes pride in her job and always is so helpful and informative. Hi me and my brother were there just recently. And everyone is very friendly. Plus The reptiles are so good taken care off. And we still see our favorite employees since before we moved. She's the sweetest. And always answers all the questions we have about any reptile there is. We have bought our African emperor there and our dessert hairy there as well. But we notice she has so much knowledge on this pets. And always greets us with a smile and a hello. Thanks to her we leave happy with a new pet when we go. Ive had my issues with this Petco to the point Ive driven out of my way to Petsmart only to find they aren't much better customer service wise. But this Petco's grooming customer service could be better. Made an appointment for same day service for our dog that we took there a year ago for grooming. Shortly after we received a call that they could not groom our dog on the weekend because our dog "has a hard time with everything and needs alot of time to be worked on" This was based on notes another groomer made a year ago. I was not aware of this issue and when speaking with the customer service person, she was fairly rude and matter of fact about it. Perhaps if our dog was so difficult for them they could have told us at the previous grooming that they have this rule about grooming "difficult" dogs on the weekends. Maybe it's in the fine print somewhere. I dont know. It's not a huge deal but think it's worth noting. Also, FYI, they ask for tip BEFORE they even bring your dog out, which is kinda odd. read more

Please whatever you do DO NOT bring your pet here to get groomed. I came in on Jan 13 to get my dog groomed. He's a small 5yr old 6lb dog. On top of them calling me with the nastiest attitude stating that I needed to be there at my scheduled time because even if I'm a minute late they won't take him, and I couldn't come in 5 min early because they won't take him, they also hurt my dog. He's a perfectly healthy pup at that! GRECIA IDK WTF you did to my kid but every time I go to pick him up he cries because something is hurting him. I took him in perfect health, happy and wagging his tail. After I picked up my dog I noticed his tail was tucked in and he had bad anxiety! Wtf did you do to my dog! Did you drop him? We took our pet here for his vaccines because it closes to home. We didn't realize it's a mobile clinic. It's such a hassle to get answers especially with prescription. They had me call Pasadena location for questions. When I called Pasadena, the people said I have to wait until my next visit to ask because they don't have the answer. He was quick to help me and I was out of there within minutes not including my browsing time. INVENTORY/STORE CLEANLINESS/CONDITIONS: In comparison to Petco at both Pico Rivera & El Monte (Valley blvd), this branch seemed to have way more fish supplies on the shelves. Maybe I went on a day when they restocked but there were plenty to choose from. I hate having to pick up at various locations just for 1-2 items - not worth to even pay shipping costs. I saw many other reptile tanks like turtles, snakes...& birds, etc. Great place to bring the kids to browse around to avoid the sun. A/C was on blast so the store was really cool & fresh, unlike other loc. which felt more humid. Dk if that is good/bad considering the needs of the various pets they have on site. EXCHANGE/RETURNS FISH: They accept exchange/returns on dead/live fish w/in 30 days from purchase - they guarantee their live fish & invertebrates will stay alive for 30 days. I went through a quick & easy process at a diff loc. Bring dead fish inside a bag as proof. For live fish, I brought it inside a Ziploc baggy w/ my tank water. ONLINE PURCHASE W/ PAYPAL & REFUND: They will NOT issue cash back refund if you paid online using Paypal. They issue a store credit card which you can only use in store only I think. This is lame really. I returned 2 tanks due to size & now stuck with a big balance on the store credit card which will probably take some time to use up. Grooming Service After making an appointment for my dog, I arrived on a rainy morning for my appointment and the staff and the office manager decided to not to take my dog due to her age. They didn't have the courtesy to call me in advance and informed me that do not accept elderly dogs. All of the staff were rude and bias because of my dog's age. Grooming service We usually take my dog to PetSmart but since they weren't available we ended up going to Petco. BIGGEST mistake ever. When we dropped him off the room didn't smell but when we came to pick him up it reeked. They also didn't allow us to see MY dog until we paid, and now I know why. Usually when I pick him up from his bath he smells fresh and clean. Since I couldn't really smell him bc of the bad odor in the room, while driving back home I could smell the odor still, when I got close to my dog, I realized he smelled like the scent from the room and a mix of wet dog and shampoo, they definitely had done a half ass job. They even left his coat feeling rough from his lower body. I had to come home and shower him again bc of the bad odor, definitely not worth the $50 read more

The grooming salon never picks up their phone. I wanted to ask if they had time for a dog nail trim and if my dogs shots were in the system. Never answered, but on the petco website it says it's a walk in service. So I walk in for the nail trim with my shot records and they ask if I made an appt online. There is no way for me to make a nail appt online....because it's a walk in service! And then the groomer asks if I wanna make an appt. I agree and I'm thinking it will be that day. No, she wanted to book the appt for a walk in service 4 days away. Of course I didn't make that appt and I went to Poochie's dog grooming instead and I was very happy by their service. Made grooming appointment via App, since the store is busy to answer their phone. The app, doesn't show confirmed appointments and cannot make 2 appointments at the same time if you have multiple pets (you need to call in) Because you cannot view or receive an email of scheduled appointments I accidentally over booked appointments. Unfortunately my regular grooming place (Poochies on Portrero Grande) was booked for over a month I had to go to Petco. They're styling isn't that great. They have nice employees.
