Not only is this place filthy and the animals appear to be uncared for, but also, they rarely come through when we really need them. I'm not sure how this place hasn't been shut down. Their prices are vastly different from their online prices. Luckily, they price match, but you shouldn't have to do a bunch of research to not get ripped off. We go there because sometimes we have to, but I am officially done. Today's anecdote: I went in for a cone for my cat who is destroying his poor eye. I have someone sitting with him at home so I can get this cone and get back to work. After searching the store I find one section with a terribly limited selection. Awful hard things for an average of $40. I check online and of course, they are $14.99 there. What? The only one that they have in his size is scuffed up on the clear plastic part, and looks like it has been used, but here I am, having an emergency, or I need some thing fast. I wait in line and when I get to the counter, the girl kindly tells me they can only take cash right now. Please, tell me, you're joking, I think. Who is running this place? This is something I should've known upon entering the store. A sign on the door? At this point, I am beyond frustrated and almost in tears, when the cashier points outside and says "I think there's an atm over there somewhere?" This is unacceptable on so many levels. I was already settling for a lackluster product at inflated in-store prices... and you can't even take my credit card. It's 2023. Shame on you, Petco. I do hope someone looks into your practices and cleans things up there. read more

Just wanted to inform Petco customers. This may be a standard problem across all Petco stores but I know firsthand about Monroeville Petco. Trip 1: purchased feline pill pockets. Not usually a price watcher but noticed the price way higher than I paid elsewhere. It was over 9.00. I checked their website price and it was under 6.00. Big difference. When I asked a cashier, they said they price matched so They honored their web price. Trip 2: I purchased arm n hammer clumping cat litter 19 pound box. In store it was over 14.00. Online it was 11.99 and 10.99 if ordered online and picked up in store. Again, when confronted, cashier honored online price. I did have a manager call me and he was kind to let me vent. He, too, is frustrated, but hands are tied. Bottom line according to my assessment is that Petco corporate does not value their customer. They are very ok with the ignorant ones, those kept in the dark by their pricing structure, to keep overpaying by a lot. So, I am doing my part to fill out their surveys, complaining to their customer service and management, and most importantly informing customers online and in any review site I can. Now you have been informed. Each and every time you decide to purchase in their store, check their web for the same item and request a price match. Better yet, stop patronizing them. Definitely a fan. One star off for super high prices. Super knowledgeable staff very willing to assist in finding the correct product. They have most brands of most items. Very well stocked, and as always, your friendly fur baby is welcomed. We are currently nursing a kitten, abandoned in our shed. He's doing well and although Petco is much more expensive than Burton's, you cannot beat their never ending supply of those odd, hard to find items... like Kitten Milk! Of the many pet stores we have been to, the Monroeville Petco is my absolute favorite store to go to for my pets. Claire, the dog trainer, is simply AMAZING. My pup instantly bonded with her during a random visit to the store to get some toys, food, and treats. We visited several pet stores to inquire about puppy training. We ultimately chose Petco because of Claire and the positive and immediate bond both my pup and I felt with her. We are currently finishing the Level 1 Adult Class. Which reviewed and helped my pup learned and improve the basic commands; sit, stay, stand, lay down, leave it, wait, side, come and loose leash walking. It's also a great way to socialize your pup. Toby, my pup, took to Claire right away and was happy to perform, listen to, and please her. We also were introduced to several new treats Toby liked during training sessions (my pup is super picky about his treats). In conclusion... I firmly believe that having awesome, friendly, knowledgeable, and easy approachable employees really makes all the difference. This Petco is worn. Worn and shown no love over the years. The thing I don't like about this location is just that, the location. It is kind of well hidden in a very congested area of Monroeville. I'm not just talking traffic congestion, but building congestion. Surrounded by several eateries, one bank, and if I'm correct an adult bookstore you would not think that this is here. Also it faces a street that is mostly a street used to cut through a busy area, across that street is a graveyard. Not your typical place for a business that caters to animals that you can actually take indoors. Typical setup inside with the varied items they usually carry. This is out go to store for pet items. They have some of the best prices on the food we buy for our cat and also have a great selection of accessories and toys. We were shopping for a water fountain for our cat and were pleased that there were at least 10 options to choose from. We usually take our dogs to get bathed at their daycare, but I happen to meet a friendly groomer while shopping and thought, it is worth a shot. I got a full service groom on both pups (9 months old) they didnt need trimmed due to being Australian Shepherd/husky mixes. They can both be high energy but a bit nervous at new places. I picked up the fluffiest, happiest puppies ever! They were softer than when they were itty bitty pups!! After the other baths we usually notice the dogs itching more due to dry skin or not getting completely rinsed, but with petco there was no itching and they were completely dry!!!! Typical pet store. Never had any problems here. Usually pretty vacant when I go (lunch time). Never have trouble getting through the checkout quickly, and the staff has always been friendly. I love that you can buy reusable kitty litter containers here. Honestly, imho, the litter is a bit less effective at keeping odor at bay vs. Tidy Cats, but worth the price if you only have one or two cats. Their sales are pretty good, but prices can be steep if the item isn't on sale. Just make sure to do some price comparisons before running in to grab something on the fly. read more

worst customer service i've ever had; i called to let them know i was going to be late to my appointment (due to a car accident on the Duquesne bridge), had to leave a message and when i got there they refused to service my dog, didn't care to call me back to let me know that if i'm more than 15 minutes late they won't take my dog. the girl at the desk Lisa was just sitting at the desk but hadn't cared to check the voicemails in the 40 minutes it had been since i left it and didn't even bother to help me in anyway or try to reschedule me, she is the definition of someone doing the bare minimum at her job. I later called called and spoke with one of the managers and all she did was continually make excuses. I usually take my dog to the pleasant hills location and they have always been great there. This is the only 'pet store' I go to......the staff is exceptional.....they have helped me so many times.....very kind, polite and helpful staff........my 3 dogs love this place ! :) They always find a toy they want ! By the way, the animals there (for sale), birds, ferrets, hamsters, reptiles, etc.......seem happy, healthy, cared for and are always in a very clean environment..... I've been a frequent shopper at this Petco and can't complain. It's rarely crowded except during vaccination clinics. Their supplies are plenteous. It's usually clean and quiet. Their secret weapon is the groomer, Jessica! Lol! She is very, very good! But she isn't always there. She should consider opening her own pet grooming salon. We'd be her #1 client!!! I would've given 5 stars but their pricing isn't as competitive as the other petstores and they tend to only have 1 register open and when lines get long they rarely open a 2nd one. Today I came into Petco to ask about my merchandise card. I wanted a cat tree I found online but merchandise cards can not be used online. GARY was absolutely amazing. He helped me purchase gift cards with my merchandise cards and then completed my purchase on his iPad. The ladies at Petco in Monroeville did an absolutely amazing job grooming my husky. I was extremely skeptical because she does not like getting her hair cut at all & she's a very loving protective family dog but she doesn't take well to strangers... So I was nervous to say the least... I was envisioning coming back to her with a muzzle on after them feeding her sedating treats ... I kept telling my son i was scared to leave. but I came back & she's standing there on the table... no muzzle... allowing a complete stranger... who by the way I would like to invite over to teach me how to work her magic‍ trimming away at her tail & furry buttpants that I have to chase her around the house like an Olympic track runner to try to brush out‍... She comes out with the most soft fur & has finally stopped shedding all over the house curtosy of their deshedding package that I highly recommend!! I have never seen her look better & my daughter was so excited she got to pick out her bandana & matching bow. They do an awesome job & made my very skittish dog so comfortable & at home & perfectly groomed that I will continue to take her there ! I couldn't be happier. read more

Review for grooming services - The store is fine. In the past I have always been happy with grooming services, but they must have new staff. I brought 3 dogs --- a corgi, a springer and a golden. In all fairness, the corgi looks beautiful, but she is the only dog that did NOT get a haircut. When asked if I wanted them cut, I specifically told her IF ANYTHING just LIGHTLY trim the feathers so they were even. I wished I knew in advance that the groomers definition of a "light trim" meant to take the clippers and completely butcher the coats of my springer and golden. I'm not happy about the springer, but I just started to cry when I saw my show quality golden. Not only is all his beautiful fur all gone, but the cut is just horrible -- all uneven and looks like it was hacked off by a two year old. I groom the pups at least 4 times per week, and I know they did not have any matted fur that would give reason to shave them (especially without my permission!). Additionally: who does this when the temperature has been in single digits a lot - they need their hearty coats to stay warm. read more

Kristin does a wonderful job grooming and caring for our 12 year old golden retriever Daffodill. Daffy always is happy to see Kristin and comes back to us perfectly groomed and smelling so good. She struts out thru the door with her tail wagging and continues to show off when we get home. Not only does she look wonderful, but obviously she feels great! I have given Petco my business for over two years and I recently was extremely disappointed with my service at this particular location. I went to get my 2.5 year old shih tzu groomed here and groomer #11 butchered him. He typically has short hair on his body and then a fluffy face and long ears and a long tail. It has taken me over 2 years to grow his hair in his ears and tail to the perfect length and occasionally they get some knots in them.....but every time I go to get him groomed, an experienced groomer always gets the knots out. This time, not the case. I instructed how I liked him cut and I came back and honestly didn't even recognize him as my dog at first. My jaw hit the floor. She had shaved his tail up the back and his ears are now bald. BALD. When I asked her why she had done that, she said he had too many knots....this flat out wasn't true because I brushed him before I took him AND prior to me leaving him there she inspected him and said the cut I wanted was no problem. I asked her why she hadn't called me before she just destroyed two years of work and she couldn't give a reason. I then had to pay full price for the groom even though I expressed to her that I was extremely displeased. I called the manager later in the evening who ended up giving me a refund, however she stuck up for the groomer and said it was just a miscommunication. It was not. I was extremely clear and actually I thought annoyingly over-detailed. I will never again allow groomer #11 to touch my dog and we will now begin the process of growing out his hair again. Oh and did I mention that she scraped his tail and got a brush bristle stuck in his lower abdomen? Really disappointed and saddened about this outcome. If you go to take your dog to this location, make sure you're not getting groomed by groomer #11. read more

We take our old Golden here to be groomed and Lauren does an awesome job with him! Since he is old (12) she will split up his grooming so it's easier on him which we really appreciate. Do not use the grooming service!! Grooming salon manager is poorly trained on grooming AND customer service. My appointment was originally cancelled due to the groomer being ill and was to told she would call back to reschedule. When I didn't get a call 1 week later, I called to make an appointment. On the day of the appointment, I was told my appointment was never put into the system and they didn't have any opening on that day. Spoke with the manager and made another appointment for the following Friday at 2PM. When the dog was dropped off, I told them I needed to pick up my dog at 5PM. When I called at 4PM, they said they were working on another dog and didn't know if they could get my dog done by 5. I came to pick up my dog immediately, only to find 2 groomers working on 1 dog. The grooming manager, Lauren, couldn't even look at me in the eye or had the decency to apologize for her mistake. Can't stand incompetent people! read more

i took my 8month old yorkie puppy to get trimmed up this weekend at monroeville location. when i picked him up the groomer christina knorr stated "oh by the way your dog is gray now" she completey shaved my puppy's entire coat off all his black and brown fur is gone and will not grow back. my puppy even has bald patches and cuts! i asked why did she shave his fur off and she stated 'it will break off anyway' that would not have happened until he was over 1 years old she took it in her own hands and butchered my dog. he is now ruined! managers only wanted to reimburse the $30 instead of my whole $77 dollar bill, after i was advised they would. i called the district manager yellana kharchezka who stated she would only give me a gift card like i would ever go back there. they completely ruined my 8month old puppy his puppy coat is gone and will never come back. christina knorr is the worst groomer and she was rude from beginning to end, she needs to be fired! i will never return to any petco let alone monroeville. your not even worth the one start that they make me give you! read more
