I see that others (such as Tracy B.) have run into that fish department manager who interrogates potential buyers and refuses to sell fish to experienced aquarium owners if they don't meet her extreme and stringent beliefs. These insults typically take place in the fish department, surrounded by chock-full aquariums of fish for sale. My encounter was in Englewood, now I hear this manager is in Boulder. Dear Petco: please consider either selling fish like a normal pet store or else get out of the fish business altogether. We came in today with our new puppy and the staff were very welcoming, helpful, and friendly. They took the time to meet our little girl and answer our questions. We left with an armload of treats and toys for our girl and the knowledge the staff here really love pets and their customers. I was hesitant to come here because of the poor reviews, but after looking at a bunch of them, many are just disgruntled MAGA idiots who didn't want to wear a mask during Covid and thought they'd be some kind of hero by bullying staff. I'm not a fan of the groomers here. I brought my 2 dogs in to get their nails trimmed and the person assisting us didn't seem capable of performing the task. Maybe it was a lack of confidence or inexperience, but she struggled to trim my dog's nails so much so that she nicked him a couple times and needed that powdery stuff they put on nails to stop any bleeding. It was clear she needed assistance, so I offered on a couple occasions to hold my dog since she seemed to have a hard time getting herself into a good position. When another groomer went over to assist, they were pretty rude, stating that we should leave the area since our presence might be making our dog tense or nervous. Nooo, it's your colleague who clearly doesn't know what she's doing that causing the anxiety. We decided to go look at the aquariums while they wrapped up. Overall, they had poor customer service and incompetent groomers so we won't be returning here. read more

It's really sad how little these people actually care about animals. I was sent here from the Boulder location to get the prescription food that my cat needs. I had my prescription written by my vet with me. They declined to sell it to me because the clinic was closed. I drove all the way out here because the Boulder location told me to. Now the day is over and don't have time to make another plan. My cat won't get the medicated food she needs tonight because of these people. And besides this situation and their uncaring and rude staff (including the "manager"), the store is an absolute disgusting mess. Just don't go there. read more

This is primarily about the fish department, which is relatively clean, but their saltwater fish have flukes and have for at least 6 months. It infected my tank and when I was back there today I saw a couple of different fish flashing, which is a sign of gill flukes. The manager I encountered was kind of rude for no reason, and I've stood in line while the cashier chatted with zero acknowledgment, even getting blamed for being ignored because I was on my phone, which only happened after being ignored. Also the entryway carpet is absolutely disgusting, presumably from dogs relieving themselves on it. I will however say the 2 young people that run the fish department are fairly friendly and somewhat informed, but it's definitely worth making the drive to Biggs or Aqua Imports, unless you want supplies, which are unsurprisingly sometimes out of stock despite what their website says read more

Just had our Maltipoo groomed at Petco Loongmont. Terrible job of grooming. Uneven, choppy, still had doggie boogers in the fur around her eyes. Just awful. Charged us $70. My 5-year-old granddaughter could have done a better job. Won't go back there again and would never recommend this place to anyone! read more

If you're wanting to buy fish don't bother to go to this Petco. I have personally witnessed several customers leaving irritated because of a 20 something questioning you to death about your tank and your knowledge and refusing to sell fish. Occasionally you will get someone that actually wants to sell their fish. They have some beautiful ones and some of their people are knowledgeable but for the most part I have found most of them to be condescending and refused to sell you the fish you were asking for if you don't answer the questions correctly. read more

Mistreating you and your dog Made a grooming appointment for my older dog, I called yesterday to see how long her appointment may take. The groomer called me back today and said her appointment is at 4 we don't know how long it will take but we close at 6 today . I said perfect, she then said she needed to ask me more questions about my dog. She seemed to be asking over the top amount of questions, she was trying to dig for something. (My dog comes in often to be groomed and even came in a month ago. My dog is calm and never has had any issues) She then asked about medications I told her she has one to help with incontinence. She said hold on and came back and said they would no longer take my dog becuase she was older on medication. I asked to talk to the manager, the "manager" came on the phone who refused to give me her name. I asked for the store manager and she said she was the only manager on staff today and said her word is final and they will no longer see my dog ever. I hanged up the phone and called the regular number where she answered and told me I couldn't talk to anyone else and still refused to give me her name. I was already upset with her refussing to give me her name or another person it just escalated. I called my vet and they said there is no reason for them to deny my dog over this medication and is sending over a letter saying it is fine. I called now 2 other Petco and have talk to Assitance Store / Managers and that this lady doesn't have the authority to deny my dog and that I needed to talk with Alfred or corpoate. read more

Place seems a little worn. Lacks a fresh feeling to it. The salt water tanks are usally dirty, the gold fish tank they have that they sell for feeders or whatever usally has dead fish in it. Dnica in the aquatic area was extremely unprofessional and had horrible customer service. Today I came in to buy some small fish for my classroom fish tank. After telling Danica that i would like 4 fish she tells me "No, I'm only selling you 3". After telling her no, actually i would like to buy 4. She says" i am only going to sell you 3 because you don't know if your tank has a heater init or not and i want to protect MY fish." She kept telling me there are no returns..As if i was going to return dead fish. When she handed me the bag i asked her for her name and she said " Danica and i am the aquatic supervisor." I walked away with my 3 fish to go up and pay and she comes storming past me and runs up to the cashier to tell them "NO RETURNS". Then as she walked away she was yelling at me while i was up front saying " Next time before you come in here don't be telling people what to do." I simply ignored her and then as i was checking out i could hear her talking loudly to other employees about me. Which means if i could clearly hear her, then other customers could clearly hear her. I am utterly shocked by the lack of human decency, kindness and just customer service in general. I will not being going back to this store and I hope that there is a consequence for Danica's actions because they way that she spoke to me as a customer is NOT ok. I went into the Longmont Petco yesterday, Wednesday the 13th. I don't live in Boulder county or Longmont. I don't know the rules there. I wasn't wearing the required mask. So a dark haired woman in a very rude way told me I had to have a mask. I don't know her name she didnt get close enough to see her name tag. She didn't have to be do rude. I won't ever go there again. She actually yelled at me. I guess this is what Petco lets their employees do to customers. read more

Not even 1 star. They deserve zero star. I been in the store earlier on Sunday because one of my fish died. They do not let me buy another one before I take a water sample. I have 4 fish tanks, so I'm buying numerous fishes to split between 4 tanks. So I drove back home for water samples. I took my daughter with me. We got the store. We were waiting for associate, waiting, waiting, waiting. One employee , I guess she some kinda manager. She short heights, with ponytail, she was wearing blue petco t-shirt with no name tag, just like every single employees. I guess why. So customers can not report them with names. But meanwhile I was waiting, a chubby body type employee was circling around me. She rude to me since I took back death fish to the store several months ago. So the employee with ponytail she said to us, I have to change my mask for a different what is approved with this covid-19 b.s. I said, sorry, I have my own mask. She went to another employee, and told him he can not give me service until I change my mask. She went back to 2 employees, one is the chubby body type and a skinny one. She was pointing to us. I went to them to show a paper from Colorado government website about the mask. They told me, they don't care, it is not effect them, because petco is a private business. I told them , my daughter has rashes on her face because the mask , but she was wearing her mask too but not tight how they want, so I told she has dark skin and it showing badly. They said they don't care dark skin people problem, next time I leave her at home. Wooow... And they told us, id I do not change my mask for their mask, we will not get any service. Okay, we left and went to Petsmart where the employees don't care what kinda face covering the customers are wearing. I told them what happened and they said, they heard a lot about that petco store employees behaviors. What your employees doing to the customers, that is discrimination. One of the workers there asked if they could help me with anything and as I told them I was simply looking and didn't need help and I was asked to leave because she assumed i wasn't going to buy anything. This store is an okay place... to buy supplies. I couldnt help but notice the false information employees were giving people. I have had hamsters, gerbils, and parakeets before and I bought them well educated about the animals I was buying, but I'm going to tell about my friend that asked for hamster for her birthday. Her parents came to this store and asked for advice on which to buy. The Robos were so tiny and adorable and they asked about them. The employees told them that they SHOULD buy in pairs so the hamster could have a playmate and not be lonely. This information is false. Anyone educated on rodents, ESPECIALLY hamsters, would know that from 4-6 weeks from birth they will get territorial and begin to fight each other. Instead of playmates, they see each other as threats and rivals. The parents of my friend listened, assuming these people knew what they were talking about, and bought two adorable robo hamsters named Jekyll and Hyde. I forewarned my friend and said that they shouldn't live together, but she said it was fine. She was telling me about some signs of agression but she said the emplyees said they were just playing. She continues to think they were playing until it was evident hat fur was missing after episodes of fights. Beginning to get concerned, she came over and we had a plan to seperate them in a fish tank with a divider. She went home that day to find one dead, completely destroyed and bloody, and the other bloody and injured. This all couldve been prevented. Another set of incorrect information is housing. One critter-trail cage is NEVER enough room for one hamster. (You may think if they're small they can live in a smaller space but this is opposite, they have more energy and are in even more need of space.) You must have at least two crittr trail cages for them to live peacefully and happily, and bar chewing is not a result of boredom, its result of not enough space. More toys wont fix it, more space will. I highly suggest getting a tank, no smaller than 20-25 gallons for any rodents (metal or mesh lid) its more spacious and looks nicer than a too-small critter trail home. Regarding the other reviews, this PETCO is definitely not run down. It's very nicely laid out and decorated. The employees I dealt with were friendly and informative (I purchased a rat and bedding). The bedding prices are AMAZING here compared to other pet stores. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to afford changing my rats' bedding weekly. No more worrying about that. No even 1 start, ( I needed to select 1 start to post the review)I waited like 18 months to see if there was a different staff. It was even worst than ever. I have a 13 years old Maltese. I recognize that she is anxious but other groomers have done a great job with her. For some reason I forgot to save the appointment with her regular groomer for the last 18 months and when I call they only could do it on October 20. So I decided to give it a try with Petco. I could tell the clerk checked for last comments from the last groomer in the computer and she said immediately I think we are not going to be able to do it, your dog hair is very matted. I told her that she could shave her using the smaller number that I didn't care. She responded if we try and we can not we do call you in the first 20 minutes. They called me 5 minutes later to pick her up. The services of this place is very cheesy and it looks that they can only work with the easy pets. I went to Petco today. One of the ladies who works there was one of the dog trainers she walked up to me and asked if she could help me I told her I was waiting for somebody else to come she then said because of COVID-19 I needed to wait outside for my other party to get there. That really confused me since there were already a lot of people in the store and I saw several others walk in while I was waiting for my other party to arrive. Once my other party arrived I walked in we both had dogs with us the manager who's name is Devin Walked right up to me and said "can I help you, I thought you were asked to leave?" I told him that I was told to leave until my other party got there. He then asked what I was doing there and I said I'm here to look around and shop. The dog trainer then told me if I wasn't there for essential reasons that I needed to leave. She was very nasty to me for no reason. And quite frankly with that kind of an attitude I would not trust her with any dog. She then demanded that I tell her exactly what I was looking for. I then told her I was there to get dog food. She wanted to know the exact brand so she can go get it for me. This whole thing was confusing Because nobody else was being asked these questions. Everybody else was allowed to look around. As I walked towards the aisle where the dog food was the dog trainer followed me and my friend and kept asking her what she was there for and what she was going to buy. We went down four different isles and this dog trainer followed us the entire way one time she was literally within inches of us. I asked her to back up to 6 feet because that is The rule. She stepped back, folded her arms, and gave me a nasty look and went and got her manager. Her manager came up to me and said my employee no longer feels comfortable and you need to leave. She was following us. I will never go back there. I will never recommend anybody to go to Petco. As I was leaving I told the manager that I am there all the time. He then said well I've never seen you and he rolled his eyes. Since this is how they treat their customers I would recommend That nobody ever go to this pet store there are plenty of other ones to choose from the dog trainer should be fired and the manager should be fired. I've never been treated this way and I would definitely not trust anybody to train my dog that acts like that. read more

Incredibly slow staff when assisting with aquatics. We spent the first several minutes being ignored by one employee and then when we finally tracked her down to ask for assistance, she didn't want to assist us but rather went off to search for another staffer. After a page and another five minutes of standing there waiting, that original employee came back over after I looked for her and she just said she would try calling the other employee again instead of offering to assist us herself. These employees clearly have no respect for their customers time nor do they care about retaining customers. This is not an isolated incident either. Anytime assistance is needed it either takes 20 minutes to get someone to help out in aquatics or I just have to give up and try another day. This was just the final straw. Ridiculous! read more

This Petco is very hit or miss. The cashiers are always nice and friendly, but I have also stood around for 20+ minutes waiting for an employee to acknowledge me when I needed help. Generally their fish don't seem too healthy, which is a shame because they have a good selection. They have a good selection, and there is plenty of room to get around in the store. It is difficult to get help (on the sales floor), and you usually have to wait for two or three other customers first. They have a lot of animals for sale but try hard to convince people that they are not capable of taking care of them and often refuse to sell animals. most of the animal cages and fish tanks looked crowded and dirty. We saw several dead fish, so were reluctant, but wanted to get ONE fish. We tried to get a pleco (sucker fish) to replace the one that recently died after we had it for TEN YEARS! I have always had fish, and have a lifetime of experience taking care of them. My plecos typically live for about ten years, often longer. I know how large they get. after the employee asked how many fish we have (less than 30 between guppies and platties) they said we need a 55 galon tank before they could sell us a pleco. When we explained that we have taken care of fish all of our lives, the employee called her manager over. My wife and I have more experience taking care of fish than the employee and manager have been alive! They still refused to sell us the fish, so we put back all of our dog and guinea pig supplies and went to a different store. The other pet store agreed that we had adequate space and did not need to purchase a larger tank. read more
