I'm really disappointed with how this situation was handled. I brought in a baby guinea pig I had recently purchased because her bonded cage mate passed away about three weeks later. I was concerned that whatever affected the other guinea pig could also affect her, so I brought her in to be checked for her health and safety. This was handled very poorly. When I later called for an update and asked about getting her back, I was told she had already been placed back in the display case to be sold to someone else. There was no concern shown for her physical or emotional well-being. Guinea pigs are prey animals and extremely sensitive to stress. On the same day her bonded cage mate died, she was also separated from the other guinea pigs she had bonded with. In a short period of time, she experienced the loss of her companion, separation from familiar cage mates, transport back into a loud store environment with dogs and children nearby, and being put back on display without proper quarantine--even though she had been exposed to a deceased cage mate. This kind of stress can weaken their immune system and put them at serious risk. I felt treated unfairly, and the way this was handled did not feel safe or humane. This experience seriously damaged my trust in how this store cares for small animals. The picture below was the guinea pig I had and returned. She was too small to be written off as healthy and too much through stress to be put out in a case with other guinea pigs she didn't know and in an environment so cruel. On another occasion, I returned multiple guinea pigs and called ahead to let the store know I would be coming back the next morning to get two of them. When I arrived, I was told that one of the two had already been sold to someone else--even though I had been told the two had bonded during their time back in the store. Separating bonded guinea pigs is stressful for them and shows a lack of understanding or concern for their social and emotional needs. This situation felt careless and avoidable, especially after I had communicated clearly the day before On another occasion, when I was new to caring for guinea pigs, I called with a genuine concern about the length of one of their teeth and asked for guidance. The manager was rude and snappy with me and implied that I was neglecting or abusing the animal by not providing enough food, hay, or toys. This was especially upsetting because I was reaching out specifically because I cared about the animal's well-being and wanted to do the right thing. It felt insulting and discouraging, and it didn't match the store's claims about caring for animals. If the goal is animal welfare, people asking for help shouldn't be treated like they're doing something wrong. To end I will never be getting my guinea pigs from here again. I love the ones I have but I will not support this business. I would rather spend a few more buck on the guinea pigs at petsmart than here. They have lost a loyal customer read more

Had a good customer service, didn't have to wait too long in line. Not the best place to go for fish needs, but has great deals.

We're preparing to welcome a puppy into our family and wanted to start checking out nearby pet stores to see what services and supplies they offer that were dog-specific. The store was quiet when we visited tonight - no animals for adoption up front, few other animals were available, actually, and few customers browsing, which was just fine by us. Store seems to carry the typical food brands you'd expect as well as some natural, grain-free, and "raw" type options -- Putina Pro Plan, Blue Buffalo, Merrick, Vital, Instinct, and the one we were looking for, Solid Gold. Same goes for the treats and toys. Plenty of pet care cleaning products, leashes/harnesses/collars, beds, and other items for dogs. I spoke with an employee, who confirmed they aren't doing socialization or group training classes because of COVID, but she did say their one-on-one training is being offered at $25 and at least offers a new setting and new people (the staff) to meet. She was very friendly and you can tell she really likes what she does. There is a small grooming check in on the right side of the entrance -- it has its own separate little waiting area so if you're bringing your dog in for a trim, you aren't just hanging out near the entrance of the store where the bulk of the foot traffic is. read more

Took my dog into Petco after reading reviews from other sites and scheduled an appointment with Tessa. I liked her immediately, she answered all my questions and concerns. I took him in the next day and they took care of him right away. He got a little skittish when she was grooming him around the face for his pre cut but then Stephanie went in and helped to calm him down. They explained it would be a puppy cut to get him used to being at the groomers since it was his first time and didn't want to traumatize him. He is the type of dog that will be there frequently. I completely understood and when they took him back I left to run errands. She called me half way through to let me know he was doing great and they could do a full cut. I got there when they finished and he was so happy to see me. They did a fantastic job I will not be going anywhere else. Tessa and Stephanie are just the nicest girls read more

Brenna did an excellent job at grooming our border collie. Our dog slash was very scared as it was her first time and has history of abuse (rescue). Brenna went slow with Slash so she could trust her. She put bows in her hair at the end. so cute. Petco squeezed me in to a same week appt after calling others private groomers who were booked out like a month. You just bring proof of a recent rabies vaccine with you. It was around $50 for under grooming, trimming, nails and shampoo. My only complaint is its not closer to me otherwise I'd take her more often. read more

I will never again take my dog back to Petco for grooming. I took him on Saturday March 2nd and was hoping for a good outcome as the groomer he has been going to since he was 12 weeks old had closed down (he is now 3 yrs old). When I walked in a female acknowledged me and told me she would be right with me. I was impressed by this. When she came to the counter she told me she needed to call the groomer that would be taking care of my dog. This is where it all started to go down hill. The female who was grooming him came in with a super crappy attitude and was borderline rude. I was tempted to leave at that point but my dog really needed grooming so after the check in I left him in her care. Needless to say she was sickly sweet when I picked my dog up after the grooming was finished. He didn't look bad at all so I thought everything was fine. Once I got home though I knew something had happened. I don't know what that woman did to my dog but he was scared of everything. He wouldn't walk on grass for 2 weeks! He is finally getting back to normal but I wanted others to know if you take your dog there he might not come home acting the same. Guess I will never be putting the care of my dog in their hands ever again. And if I could give no stars I would as my dog is also my service dog and due to what happened he wasn't able to work for 2 weeks which was also detrimental to myself and put me personally in harms way. read more

Brenna does a fantastic job with my small yorkie and always does just what I ask for. She talks softly to my baby as she grooms her and it's so cute. I can always get an appointment when needed and have nothing but praise for the Lancaster grooming service. Just wish they weren't so expensive. I would love to tip my groomer more, but the cost is usually so high, I can't afford to tip as well as I would like to. Thanks, Brenna. I would give Lancaster Petco a zero star if I could. Took my older dog in for a bath and nail clip...an hour later when I picked her up she could barely walk! I asked what happened - "nothing unusual" - REALLY????? She could walk when I dropped her off. Long story, short after a few calls to the manager, there was no resolution or reason given. They kept covering for each other blaming the issue on the age of my girl. Probably afraid if they told the truth, I would sue them. They aren't wrong!! I take my 2 yorkies to get groomed here and they are a lot friendlier than Petsmart.I would recommend this spot for grooming.

Loved the grooming but setting the appointment was very frustrating. Could not do it online and, when I called, kept going into VM. Found out the salon was closed Monday and Tuesday....nothing on their message to let you know. When I finally called on Wednesday, left message and had to call back again. cut itself was very good and a good experience. Needs definite improvement for scheduling. read more

I actually feel guilty giving this store one star, but I have no choice. It deserves absolutely 0. I traveled to Lancaster PA on a day trip with my mom and grandmother yesterday. We are animal lovers and were just stopping in to pick up a few things on our way home. We have multiple betta fish, love them. We call them our wet dogs. Anyway, we head straight to the fish section and on an end cap there were several betta fish that looked to be near death in disgusting filthy containers and when I say flithy, I mean FILTHY. The conditions were abhorrent. They had obviously not been cleaned for a VERY VERY long time or possibly never. A couple of them didn't even have the hole they feed them through on the top of the container punched through, so I'm almost positive some of them were never fed. Being a betta lover and owner, it's common knowledge that dirty conditions will kill a betta faster than anything else. The laziness of the employees at this particular Petco is astounding. I wanted to save them all but I realized I'd just be supporting the store (and abuse) and I just couldn't bring myself to do that. I will never step foot into this store again. PLEASE make some changes and if you're not going to care for your bettas, don't restock. What you're doing is animal abuse. Visited the store while driving through Lancaster, my home town. The store was clean and well organized. I had no trouble finding what I needed, and they had some great cat food that my store in DC doesn't stock. A really friendly, professional sales associate, named Brianna (sp?) gave me great advice, and gave me her recommendations on food and toys based on what her own cats preferred. I noticed she balanced a couple of customers at the same time, and she did a great job. read more

The lady was extremely rude treated me like I was a child when I asked to see the ferrets. Wanted to know if I was planning on buying one. I actually was until you questioned me and then proceeded to call me a liar. I have bought my last two ferrets from here but I'll go somewhere else this time around. I'll spend the extra dollars and go to petsmart to buy the food also, they completely lost my business after tonight. read more

Petco grooming. I took my dog for grooming a week ago. After a day or two we noticed he was constantly scratching. I was thinking maybe he had a reaction to the soap. (He has sensitive skin) A few days went by and we found a flea on him. I immediately put some flea spray on him and by morning there were about 15 dead fleas on his bed. He continued to scratch so I took him to my vet and he said he was infested with fleas and he gave him a shot to eliminate the itching. My dog has never had fleas because he is treated routinely. When I picked him Up I asked the groomer if she saw any fleas on him and she said No. ( I always ask to just be on the safe side) So I called Petco grooming after I was at the veterinarian office and I asked if it was possible to get fleas from there. The gentleman I spoke with was very nice and said he would have my dogs groomer give me a call back. His groomer (Stephany) called me back and offered a free flea bath and said she didn't see any fleas on him after she groomed him. She called me back (again) about 30 minutes later and said her manager said I needed to pay because they went through their schedule that day and no flea baths had to be done that day. Which was fine but when I started to ask a question about the kennel and the possibility of him contracting fleas there, she started screaming and yelling at me so I asked to speak to her manager. She said fine and stated her name so I could complain about her (because nobody is going to disrespect her) and then proceeded to call me a bitch. I spoke to the manager and explained my situation. The sad thing is most of the people in the grooming salon are awesome but it only takes one person to make you question the integrity and care your pet receives while they are in their care. read more

Amazing store, extremely clean, they told me it was just build a little over a year ago so no wonder it looks so nice! very organized and easy to find everything, their manager, cassy, is very helpful and accommodating. She helped me find everything i needed for my dog and even asked to see him or pictures of him on our next visit! the associates are helpful and friendly, i might even try the grooming place they have there, i saw a dog getting groomed and they had not only one but two groomers there to help keep him calm and comfortable read more
