Ok I have no idea why people are complaining. So far every Petco I've walked into I have mulitple...and I mean MULTIPLE employees asking me "Can I help you with something?" This one was no different, I just walked in to cool off from the heat and of course looking for FISH. Yes FISH. I'm a dog lover but our apartment is too small for a pet. We're now thinking of fishes. Not only do they have a wide selections but the employees are helpful. They're always wanting to offer advice and if they don't know something they get another employee that does. This place is not "RODEO DRIVE" for pets, it's a pet store. Give me a break on those that complain about the employees here. MOST OF THEM are students so of course they're not going to take this job too seriously but most if not all of them work there because 1 they have a passion for animals and 2 they need to pay their bills. Be patient and enjoy the walk around the store and the knowlege they give you. read more

We're raising our first dog and went here to gather supplies before he comes home with us. + staff - there was a woman who was kind enough to show us all the things we needed. She was very helpful and gave us advice about the products she would recommend based on her experience with her own dogs. The day we went was petco's friends and family day unbeknownst to us and the cashier gave us the discount. This made me come back later to buy more toys for my puppy. We purchased our dog tags there. It was expensive at $11 but we got it done on the same day. They have some cute themed ones as well. Star wars theme seems to be strong there. read more

My husband and I went to Petco looking for a collar for our new 3 month old GoldenDoodle. We met Jane who was extremely helpful and knowledgable. She took her time to show us different options of collars and harnesses. Not only that, she mentioned she use to be a dog trainer before going into the management position so she gave us many tips and advice on how to help our puppy with leash training, puppy biting, and following through with commands. It was like getting a free private dog training session. It was so amazing to see our puppy comply to her commands while she showed us a few different tips and tricks right there and then. She was like a dog whisperer! Watch out Cesar Milan! Jane is right up there to your expertise! My husband and I left Petco feeling very pleased and impressed with the time and service we got from Jane! We will definitely take her recommendation and book sessions for training classes for our puppy. Sincerely, Two Happy Customers read more

I recently got a kitten and was looking for a vet to get his shots/vaccines at. My friend, who fosters kittens and puppies, recommended vetco to us. The vets were very friendly & gentle with little Nova while they walked us through everything providing us with all of the information we needed. The staff seems to really care about the animals as opposed to just doing their jobs. We had a very pleasant experience & would recommend the wellness center to other fur parents. read more

This is the best grooming place. My dogs get so excited to come here and always leave looking and smelling amazing.

As someone else mentioned, the amazing groomers that used to work here left so this place is a hot mess. Two points~ First, Petco...If you send out a coupon saying you miss our pets and you want to give us 30% on grooming, make sure the coupon lasts a couple of months. When I got the coupon and tried to schedule an appointment I was told they were booked until September. (My coupon expires before that) Second, Please take the statement "Walk ins are always welcome".. Today I walked to your Petco to get my dogs nails trimmed and was sent away. They told me to come back later. I mentioned that I had WALKED to their store, and they just said gave me a "oh well" look. Thanks for the wasted 45 minutes. Anyhow will not be back. read more

Terrible service, the people over there weren't nice at all. Seems like they just got off the bed. We had a $40 coupon since My dogs had training lessons at the store which the store did not honor. People work there does not seems not professional. read more

We bought a very comfortable doggie bag from here that my puppy loves, he actually used to prefer to lay in his bag instead of his bed. He loves it so much, that when he was a puppy and still going through potty training, he didn't pee in it, but rather walked out of it, and peed right next to it (it still got on the bag, however, so I still had to wash it, but that's some dedication!) They don't have that same bag in store anymore, but there are other ones that seem pretty comfortable as well. They carry a lot of dog costumes for special occasions like weddings, Halloween, and Christmas, as well as themed toys. They also have a selection of cat leases (my dog is 4 lbs, so he get to use a cat leash!) read more

Note: If you're looking to purchase betta fish and aren't picky, I recommend checking out a local privately owned shop for better deals. I recently found a 99 cents store in Tustin that sells them on the counter for $1.99. Beats paying on average $10-20 for a fish at Petco. I purchased betta fish from this store. Since purchasing the fish, I have called them on the phone, and visited the store in person to get advice on how often to feed my new pets. I have heard both "every other day" and "every day". After my fish got fin rot, I have been to the store once or twice to figure out how to heal them and I was told to use Betta Fix medication on one visit, and then advised to use aquarium salt instead on another. I also think the person who advised me to feed them every other day was probably misinformed and malnutrition could have contributed to my fish getting sick. In addition, I wish I had found out about the aquarium salt earlier which could have prevented the fin rot. On the brighter side, I've never had an issue with a rude employee, everyone I've encountered and spoke to is friendly and tries to be helpful, and I've learned something from each one that I've interacted with. It seems like several of the staff are betta fish owners themselves, which shows they are genuinely interested in their work. I understand that everyone has a different opinion for how to care for fish, but it would be best if the staff can get together and agree on and give out consistent information so as to avoid confusing customers who just want to care for their fish properly. Well, even if my fish die, at least they were all $20 or less. Maybe Petco just wants my fish to die so they can sell me more. I am kidding, but really, who knows. read more

Pretty much your average Petco. I've only been a few times and I have no complaints so far. The store's pretty clean and offers a big selection of food and toys. I even got my little puppy's dog tag made here for only $11. The staff is pretty helpful too. read more

Good variety, very poor customer service! I had my written selection of fish that I needed, with sku #, quantity and price in hand waiting for a staff to collect them for me. When the employee arrived she greeted another person who obviously just walked to the area, ask if he needed fish. The guy was not even sure and just randomly asked for few here and there. The employee, Jane, ignored me and another person who were standing there with the papers ready in hand and continued to serve the customer who was from her own ethnicity. After another employee, a tall lady, arrived to assist her, I respectfully inform he tdd about my concerns. She just wanted to leave without listening to me. I left the store, just a waste of time on weekend. So disappointed. read more

Huge store to get your pet supplies. Overall is very clean and organized. However, it is so difficult to get help. There's barely enough staffs around. It gets worse during busy time. Long check-out lines. The prices are very reasonable. But you should compare first before your purchase anything. read more

I love the groomers here! The salon is super clean and my dog always comes home happy and looking good!

My amazing dog groomer of 7 years moved away last year and I have been without a groomer for awhile. With one bad experience with a mobile groomer, I was nervous about taking my dog anywhere and washed the pup myself but it was time for a cut which I was not prepared to do. Jennifer, at Petco, was professional and sweet and my fur-ball looked so adorable when I picked him up! She did an excellent job and I am so pleased to have a groomer I can trust! Highly recommend. Thank you, Jennifer! read more

This review is for Sean who had the closing shift this Sunday night. I had to come in and shop for a new puppy in literally the last 30 min before the store closed. Despite me running around past hours to basically put together a new puppy starter kit, Sean was nothing short of amazing in giving me the best advice for what I would need (from crates, dog food, toys, pee pads and etc). He even noticed that a lot of what was in my cart had coupons so he went ahead and grabbed me booklets with a bunch of other helpful things. He also helped me get all the stuff into my car. Sean was absolutely outstanding! Super knowledgeable, genuine and friendly. This dude is the real deal and set the bar high. read more

I go here routinely for cat food and kitty litter. The staff is friendly and helpful, not expecting too much from pet store retail; its not like Starbuck's or the Coach bag store but I digress. I think perspective and expectations are important to keep realistic even in Orange County. Service: 3/5 They smile when they say hello and always try to be helpful. Selection: 4/5 They have everything except illegal and exotic pets such as monkey's or ferrets. Appearance: 3/5 The store is a pet store, nothing seems overly dirty or poorly kept, but then again it doesn't look like much more than florescent lighting and pet supplies. Summary: 3.5/5 Would I shop here again? Yes and I do so regularly. read more

The on-site service was wonderful. Diana was personable, accommodating and friendly - with us and our dog! She definitely gave the best cut we've had there so far - and will request her from now on. It was a bit frustrating as the online booking feature was not working (especially after I took the time to go through the whole process). I would have given 5-star, but I still feel the prices are a bit too high. read more

This Petco does not even deserve one star. First of all: fish PARASITES. I bought 2 goldfish 3 months ago. One of my fish pooped out a giant red worm yesterday. I know for a fact that the fish had the parasites when we bought them. One of the goldfish began getting bloated after the purchase, and within a few weeks could not swim. I thought it was a bacterial infection, or cancer, and decided to wait a bit and change the tank water constantly. Nope, the fish kept getting more and more bloated and as it turns out it was the giant red worm all along. This means that most likely the rest of the Petco goldfish tank is infested with the little parasitic worms. Secondly, I have two adorable pet rats. When I bought them, they both were sneezing a little bit. Petco said that they simply have to "get used to the new environment". Well, I ended up going to the vet because both rats developed a terrible respiratory infection. Lastly, when I was buying food for my rats, I walked past the cage where the rats are kept. There was a DEAD rat lying inside. All the other rats were cuddling up against their dead companion. I told the employee at Petco about the dead rat, and he removed it from the cage and threw it away. That rat must have been lying dead in the cage for several days based on its appearance, and no one even noticed it. As I only have fish and rats, I do not know how Petco cares for other animals. Maybe they treat dogs and cats better. I just know I am definitely not buying any other animals from them. read more

This is my first review ever in yelp, The worst location to go for grooming. I have made 4 appointments for a bath at this location & every single time I got turned around because they were either short on staff or had overbooked too many dogs at once or didn't have enough time to wash before closing. These were all the excuses with having an appointment! I thought I'll give them another shot since they are right by my house so I had made another appointment for yesterday which they called & rescheduled for today, and when I went and waited for 10 min for the girl to see me to check us in, she finally sees us & comes to say it's "too late" to check in....really?? So I'm trying to explain to her how we've been waiting to get checked in & how this is the 4th time w/appointment that you guys keep turning us around, and all the sudden she looses it and starts crying & yelling that she just lost her friend to suicide & that she doesn't have to listen to us and kept yelling to leave the store and never come back.. okkkkkk...whattttttt just happened.. I'm sorry about her friend, very unfortunate but what just happened?!! I had never experienced such a thing in my life & to top it off, 2 of her coworkers see the girl crying and come straight to us and tell us we have to leave the store without even knowing what's going on! Finally the manager sees this and he was very apologetic and said he will talk to the GM. This was the 4th appointment I had made to get my dog washed and wasn't successful. Very unprofessional and understaffed. If there's other locations that you can go to, you should! Do Not Go HERE!! read more

DONT USE THIS PLACE FOR GROOMING. Unethical people work here. How does this happen. I do my part. I make an appointment, show up early to make sure I have all the forms and documents. I was super impressed when I called this morning and the nice young man (I think Geo was his name) was so helpful and friendly in the grooming department. Super affordable shot clinic. Only giving 4 stars as some vets are not very friendly. One male vet is excellent!

This store must be raking in the money cuz everytime I call their extremely booked in their grooming I have yet to be able to book a grooming I spoke to a gentleman named Adam on Saturday March 24th and said he was overbooked so I don't understand it. Considering all the bad reviews I see on Yelp I figured they might have a space open since I was desperate and just when you get back but I guess they're not read more

This Petco is limited and there are not a lot of options for clothing and pet wear for animals. But I really appreciate how caring the staff is. They are always asking if I need help or have any questions. Great staff no doubt. I went in looking for bandanas. I couldn't find anyone so I asked the cashier, Kris. He kindly walked away from the register and asked another employee to point me to where the bandanas were, but she said she couldn't because she was with another customer. This was true, she was standing waiting for this person rompí k a fish. The only thing she needed to do was to point her finger to the area, but apparently that's above her pay grade. Kris kindly walked me to where they were supposed to be, though nothing was there. The place is horrible, no one willing to help, just this very nice guy, I hope someone from Petco reads this and rewards Kris. I'm fine with this store. I have come here multiple time for various aquarium things. For years I have been planing a betta fish sorority tank. Which is when you take a bunch of FEMALE betta fish and put them in a tank together. Betta fish are usually kept in a tank by themselves since they are very aggressive to each other and can kill each other. While preparing the tank for the bettas I bought multiple breeds of live plants from here all of which at the time were and did not last very long, I only bought them because they were on sale. I asked them about breeds of plants and they didn't seem to know much about them and weren't very helpful. I ultimately bought aquatic plants from china town in Los Angeles that are cheeper, better quality, and lasting longer than the ones I bought here. Although their selection of betta fish is very good! With many different colors and tails. Many of them are over priced I mean $17 for a halfmoon male. You might as well just go to a private breeder and get a healthy halfmoon male for $20 that has and even more beautiful fin pattern and color. I could tell that some of the bettas have been there for a while and are suffering form fin tail rot, about 1/6 of them. My guess is once they buy them from the supplyer they just leave them on the shelves until someone buy them. As much as I want to buy them and medicate them to make them healthy again I can't and was looking for healthy betta fish. When buying things for my betta sorority tank the last thing I bought were the fish I bought 5 females from this location and 4 from the pet smart at the district. I felt very insulted when one of the workers came up to me and told me that you cannot house the fish together in one tank. I quickly corrected him, and I do admit I was a bit rude but how could I not be, I have been taking care of and studying betta fish ever since I was 7 years old, you can say I'm a little obsessed, and I know just about everything there is to know about them. I was thinking how dare he try and tell me how to take care of them when they have sick betta fish on the shelves that they can't even take care of! Of course he didn't know that but even then went on to try and tell me things as if his knowledge was grater than mine. I almost thought he was about to not let me buy the betta fish and if he did I defiantly would have cause a scene. You can say that guy was getting on my last nerve. Now that my sorority tank is complete, I won't be coming here anymore if I can help it. And just encase you were wondering by betta fish sorority tank is doing fantastic all of them are healthy and well! read more

Petco - Pet Stores Near Me - Irvine, California

I think it's appropriate that Petco Grooming is separated from the store review since the quality of their grooming service is a huge contrast to their regular store. At Petco Grooming, all your dogs are on a first name basis. =P Despite the fact that my crazy pug likes to create a treadmill like motion against the slippery floor of this store EVERYTIME he's here, and makes his mommy the most embarrassed dog owner in the world...I always find my way back here for 1 reason....the grooming salon. I've been to about 5 different grooming salons (including other Petcos and Petsmarts) and let me tell you, not all are created equal. This location consistently provides the best nail trimming, best hair brushing (they manage to get a lot of the undercoat fur from double coated pug), and they usually don't charge a whole lot (if any) to have his anal glands squeezed (yes it's gross...but someone's gotta do it). Other locations are either unsuccessful at trimming his nails down or when he comes out, he's still a damp ball of fur. I don't blame them because anyone who owns a pug knows the bloody murder screams they do when anyone gets near their nails. The fact that Petco could do it is very telling. Hehe, by the time he's done at Petco, I feel like he just returned from a season of Extreme Makeover...his breath smells a lot better, his booger encrusted wrinkles on his face all gone, and he looks 5 lbs lighter due to the grooming of his fur. Except....he's still the same crazy dog, which by the way---is adored and well received by the groomers (it scored him a free "works upgrade"...way to go Marley). Altogether, what I especially love about this place is they know all your dogs quirks and will adjust accordingly. They always give you discounts without telling you why (I suspect it's a pity discount seeing that I have such a handful to take care of). I really think they do a good job here because they have such a good attitude, which in turn makes my dog feel comfortable, which allows them to have a much easier time cleaning them. Altogether...for a normal pug bath, it's 21, with the works (which is premium shampoo and teeth brushing), it's an extra 15. They gave me a $5.00 discount last time I was there. Awesome people. read more

We've brought our pup to this Irvine Store for bath and grooming many times... and from my opinion, the level of service is declining. It's harder and harder to find anyone greeting or acknowledging your arrival at the grooming area counter, they don't even pickup phone calls. We literally have to get the attention of a storefront cashier to walk into the grooming area to get someone to come out. The latest experience, we had an appointment at 2pm for a bath. We bring our pup at 1:45p, and we were told they were a little behind and would get to him around 2:15-2:30p. We were fine with that. After 2 hours, we come back thinking our pup will be done, or close to being done only to find out they haven't gotten to him yet. For over 2 hours he was left in the kennel. We were told only at that time he would not be bathed for another 30-40 minutes. No phone call, no message telling us about delays. What's the point of having an appointment, if the appointment isn't honored within a timely manner? People loves there pets as there own children, and could you imagine caging your child in a small confined space from over 2 hours? We ended up taking our pup home without getting the service performed. There was only 1 groomer working, and tending to all the appointments that specific day. There was no support for the grooming team at all. I don't blame any single person. I'm sure the groomer was working as hard as she could. I want to call out PETCO upper management to get appropriate help. Get your act together, or in sure you'll start to lose long time customers. I'm definitely moving in that direction. I'll be very interested to see the if a response will be peovidget for this review from PETCO. The response that you provided is a ridiculous genetic auto-reply. There is absolutely no sincerity associated with it. read more

Let me say, the employees are very nice and try to be helpful and they do the work within their job description, but I HATE this corporation. Their fish (especially bettas) are always VERY sick, their rodents are unsocialized and overstocked so many of them are old, and the enclosures they keep their parrots in is cruel and unacceptable. I asked to hold one of their smaller young parrots and when the employee opened the door the parrot was so terrified it fluffed its feathers and charged me and I couldn't get my hand within a foot of it because it kept running away, which is extremely unusual antisocial behavior especially for a younger bird. They have bright lights shining in the parrots' faces the entire day with nowhere to sleep, glass walls so the constant stimulation of people walking by and banging on the glass must drive them to hate human contact, and hatchmates are kept in separate cages so they're in complete solitude. It makes me so sad to see such beautiful, potentially social and loving animals have their personalities destroyed because animal well-being and socialization is a non-priority for this corporation. Petco should stick to dog training, cat adoption and general supplies because the treatment of the other animals is disgusting. ----------------- Alternative choices for supplies and live pets I've tried out personally: If you're looking to buy parrots go to Omars (cheaper supplies and good selection friendly birds, fun place to visit just to browse and hold parrots) Fish at your local small tropical fish store, people who specialize in fish will keep clean tanks and should be able to provide you with better advice for setting up tanks Reptiles should be bought from BackwaterReptiles.com or Prehistoric Pets in Huntington Beach, also good place to visit and browse read more

I used to go to this Petco on Sundays so that I could give my dog Milo his low cost vaccinations. The place was fairly clean, but I was always afraid of putting Milo down on the floor because it always seemed disgusting. Sure, it may look clean but just imagine all the "accidents" that have happened on that floor over the years. Unless the employees sanitize the floor on a daily basis, which I highly doubt, I think I'll carry Milo no matter how much my arms hurt, thank you very much. I've run into several nice and helpful employees, but the majority of them look so depressed. C'mon, pet a puppy! read more

This petco location specifically is understaffed and management here is completely unprofessional. They continuously disappoint and treat their employees poorly. The scheduling is a joke and the employees are paid minimum wage for doing twice the amount of work as management and are forced to work and not allowed to request time off for long periods of time regardless of personal family matters or medical complications. I wish they would just fire the entire management staff at this location and find people that have real experience in scheduling and staffing. This location consistently fires and hires just enough employees to have every shift covered but if someone were to get sick or have an emergency they are left empty handed and short staffed resulting in part time employees having to work full time hours on demand.
