Came here for dog grooming and I must say that I am very impressed. My dog looks amazing. The best she's looked in years! I had tried other groomers and they had always made me feel concerned that my dog was a difficult one (anxious). I've gone to pick her up at other groomers and had issues where the groomer either skipped out on cutting and washing her face and butt or clipping her nails. As a result, I would groom her myself and do a poor job at it because I lack the tools and expertise. When I brought my dog here today, she was in pretty bad shape. There were several matted spots, lots of hair in and under her ears. Overall, the coat was spotty and lop-sided after at-home grooming for around 2 years during the pandemic. Nonetheless, Hallie (the groomer) managed to listen to my concerns about my dog without showing any judgement. I dropped off my dog at 4 pm and got called at around 7:30 pm that she was done. Expectations were low, but when I saw my dog come out through the back, I couldn't help but smile. Hallie managed to transform my dog into a cute, undeniable ball of fluff. So disappointed with Vetco/Petco. I went in to get a rabies shot for my dog. Then they swindled me to buy more such as flee prevention and the Premier care package. Only to NOT give me any discount on my Vetco visit with Premier. I called to request a receipt, they had me call other depts. Only to find out they put in the WRONG pet owner and email address! That is why I didn't get the certificate or receipt. I decided to cancel Premier due to the HIPAA violations and messiness of it all. They offered to give me a $50 discount on my Vetco visit which they should have done in the first place with premier but didn't . Only to take it away because i didn't change my mind about canceling my premier membership. My time was wasted running around attempting to rectify their incompetencies. Terrible service. I booked online for an appointment for grooming for 9:30am and then they call me the morning of the appointment to tell me they can't see her until noon because they don't have kennel space! Like what the heck! How do you not account for that when booking appointments. No I can't bring her in at noon, that's why I booked a morning appointment. Then they tell me over the phone that they can't take my dog at all because I gave her anti-anxiety meds. They won't take any dog on anti-anxiety meds. Why isn't that information provided at the time of booking! Now I wasted a dose of the meds in my dog who can't be seen for anal gland expression that she desperately needs. This place is awful. I wish I'd taken more pictures, the tank adjacent to this betta tank also had fish with ich. I'm glad to see a tank with bettas in it, they even had other bettas in community tanks! Far better than the fish that they keep in pint sized cups. I wish petco really adhered to what's on their website, about "animals always come first!" Unfortunately this is not the only location where I've seen sad or sick fish. read more

This is for the petco grooming. It would be nice if they said that the dogs can't be on anxiety medication before making an appointment. My husky has bad car anxiety to where she screams in the car the whole way. Her appointment was at 4. We gave her the medication really early in the morning so she was fine and alert. They asked if shes on medication when we were dropping her off and I just said she's on her anxiety meds and she said they will not take dogs on any sedative. It's her anxiety medication and she needs it. We didn't know because it didn't say that anywhere during the booking process. I ended up grooming her myself and will be taking her elsewhere in the future. read more

Could give no stars if possible. My sister took her kitten here for vaccines. They over vaccinated the kitten. Found out after taking the kitten to an actual vet and showed them the kittens records. This is extremely disturbing and unsafe for pets. Do not take your animals here!! read more

I brought both of my dogs in on separate occasions for nail trimming/buffing and the feet/fanny/face trim on one. The first one I brought in just needed nails done but after I picked her up and brought her home, I realize, nothing had looked like it had actually been done. I thought that maybe her nails were just longer than I remember and they did actually cut a centimeter off. A few days later, I brought in my boy for nail and fff treatment and the same exact thing! Nothing had actually been done! I paid closer attention this time to the actual length of the nails and sure enough, they, nor his fff had actually been touched. I was pissed because I am stuck with their ridiculous pet plan and am getting charged every month but not actually receiving services. I should have just stuck with PetSmart as they did a fantastic job and you could see there were really groomed after each visit. At Petco, I'm pretty sure they just stick my dogs back there for 15 minutes and then bring them back up. It's incredibly frustrating and you can't cancel that plan. read more

Don't take your dog to the groomers. Just don't. Service was always shoddy at best so eventually I only started taking my dog here to get his nails trimmed in between grooming appt somewhere else. Never had a problem before. I always say he's has a heart murmur, he's on medication, and everything is fine. This time the groomer told me that she "can't groom him, it's against their policy" and that she could lose her job. I asked since when, we've been coming here off and on for 14 years with no problems. Then another girl refers me to petsmart or the vet. Here's my problem; 1) she lied, it's not their policy, it's at the groomers discretion to deny service, 2) I scheduled the appt in advance and no one even asked me about it when I made the appt. If they cannot provide the service, do not make an appt with a client, 3) do to a lot of barriers in my life it was extremely difficult and expensive to even get there just to be turned away. Honor the appts you make or DO NOT make them. Do not turn people away from a scheduled appt because that particular groomer isn't experienced enough to do their job. read more

I have been taking my dog there for years and they screwed up the scheduling then because they were to lazy or busy or just didn't care claimed that my dog was too matted to brush out and with out a phone call or anything in the middle of winter shaved him including his beautiful silky ears that were NOT matted as I had just brushed them. This is the best, most friendly Petco I have ever been to. Had my dogs nails trimmed. Best job ever. Better than two pet hospitals. They actually trimmed them and were so nice. Guys in the store were happy and friendly. I will return to Hillsboro Petco 2151 S E TV Hiway. Someone at the Rosa Road dog park told me about them when I asked. Great experience. read more

Ok this is my second one star because of my experience with the staff. My wife asked me to try them one more time to see if I could have a better experience with them. We went to buy a dog bark collar and the staff member who was helping us was as rude and disrespectful as the last service I received there. My dad always said first time shame on you, the 2nd time shame on me for doing it again. If you decide to go there all I can say is good luck and hopefully you might get better service. Did a walk in on Saturday for nail trim, was told they only had one groomer and to comeback on Sunday. I called Sunday because its a hassle to get my dog ready for nothing and the groomer never picked up the ph. Mostly good, but I specifically asked for them NOT to clip the long hair on my dog's tail. They clipped it all off, he now has a rat tail. It's atrocious. This was going to be 1 star, but I'll bump it up because of their recent "$1 a gallon" tank sale, which saved me a bunch of money on a new tank for my tortoise. I've had a few negative experiences in here. Recently, I asked an associate about the need for a specific light for a cornsnake. He said that I for sure needed one, even though I had heard differently. After he walked away I googled in on my phone and found that I didn't actually need the light he had just insisted on. I don't think he lied to me, I just think he didn't know, which was frustrating, because it is a pet store. If you don't know, just say so, or ask someone else, don't lie. I have had other issues with their employees not being able to easily figure out how to use a coupon on the register. More employee training seems to be necessary here. On another occasion I stopped in to get some tortoise treats and they had construction going on on the roof. The noise was ear shattering. I literally could not stay in the store because it was physically hurting my ears. I question what kind of company would expose their employees and animals to such noise just to stay open and keep money coming in during construction. Besides these issues the store is always clean and the employees will help you carry things to your car. read more

I gave this Petco a 1 star because I had went to this Petco to buy my reptile a better heat and UVB light and they showed me one that had both although they did not have the UVB light in stock during the time. They told me every Tuesday they get more packages. I have gone to this Petco every Tuesday for almost 2 months now and I still haven't seen a single UVB light that this lamp takes. My reptile has had bad lighting this whole time. I bought the light so it could be in use and instead it is sitting in my closet because they do not order new stuff. The lamp itself was almost 80 bucks and I didn't not spend that type of money just so it can be sitting in my closet when I know my reptile needs this lighting.. read more

AVOID!!! Rude, unprofessional staff and manager. When I tried to ask a question about a fish, the staff woman spoke in a rude, condescending tone, acting as if caring for a goldfish is rocket science. When I assertively questioned her tone, the woman essentially told me I should leave the store and buy a goldfish somewhere else. Seriously?! When I then took my complaint to the manager (who was behind a shut door, obviously not engaged with her employees) the manager was equally inept and showed zero initiative to address my concerns. I've shopped at that store bi-weekly, if not weekly for over a year. Never again! Save your money, energy, and brain cells. A lot of the employees are rude, especially a woman named Chris. it's been twice that I've come to this store and had the unpleasant experience of being "helped" by her. She doesn't acknowledge you when you ask her for help and don't even expect a smile it seems you're more of a bother to her than anything. For pet supplies, I'm satisfied and will use them again... but for grooming, never again. Second time in for our Aussie so they had him (or should have) on file... though on checking in they had no idea who this dog was. In fact, on the bill it shows that he was a "Springer Spaniel", anyone who knows anything about dogs should have had no problem identifying this breed. On check in they asked what I wanted for him.. .shampoo and a cut suitable for his breed (not knowing they thought he was a Springer), he had some dreads forming behind his ears (pretty common for an Aussie) so I instructed to take care of the ears/neck area. I mentioned i wasn't crazy about how short they cut him the last time (different crew and much better then the results this time) so if they could leave a little length on the legs and underside that would be fine. On pick up I found Luke to have had their standard "hygienic" cut (almost bald around the hindquarters, tummy, anal area) almost all length left on front legs and upon inspection the knots still remained behind the ears... I had to comb and cut them out myself. Basically no work was done around the neck/chest/front legs, simply a in and out job. I'm afraid that the employees for companies like this are paid very little and or probably paid by the # of dogs that they work on... doesn't leave much time to do a good job. I'll be spending some time finding an actual groomer and paying a bit more (though this wasn't cheap) in order to get a job done right. read more

I have never been a fan of Petco or Petsmart. Their employees are below average when it comes to customer service, their products and food are of poor quality, and the animals they sell look unhealthy. One of their turtles looked pale, his head was out and tilted to the side and his overall body condition was appalling. I brought this to the attention of the cashier and she simply smiled and stared at me, refusing to acknowledge me. I will not shop here again, I can't believe the state of their pet cages or pet health. It's inexcusable. read more

Worst customer service. went in to purchase a particular product. Found the larger size on a shelf, with the price tag of the smaller size beside it, but the shelf was completely stocked with other products. There was no room for the item I was looking for. Wondering if there were any in the back, I walked around the store twice looking for someone to ask. The only person I found was the single cashier, so I asked him to call someone, which he promptly did. I then went back to the section and waited....and waited.....and waited....25 minutes. I finally called another Petco to see if they had any in stock, they did so I left. After driving the additional 6 or so miles I decided to call and let the Manager know this bad experience. The person who answered the phone placed me on hold to get the manager........5 minutes later i someone picked up the phone, there was about a 15 to 20 second pause then they hung up. I am done with this store, I will drive past it to go to either another Petco or maybe PetSmart. read more

We bought 8 fish from Petco and they didn't tell us really anything. One of our older fish died, which really was unnecessary, just because we didn't have medicine. Also, one of our new fish almost died because it was partially sucked into the filter, and they have "life savers" which cover the filter, and they never told us about it! Personally, you should go to Caye's or something if you want fish. But they have good products. Anyway, be careful. read more

Petco lost my business today. I had called yesterday to see when I could get my shepherd in for a bath and brush. Although it sounded very busy, she looked through and let me know there was an opening the next morning at 9:30. She took down my info and my vet info so they could verify rabies and confirmed my apt. This morning I got my shepherd all bundled up and headed into town. When I arrived I had to wait several minutes before I could even find anyone, when the girl finally came over and asked me how she could help I let her know my girl had an apt at 9:30. However upon looking through she could not find the apt. she asked me If i had made the apt at another location, and i let her know i was very sure it was this one. She then proceeded to call 3 other stores to see if they had an apt for my dog, it was very insulting as i stood there. In between a couple of calls the manager came over and was going over other papers in front of me. She then told me sorry but she couldn't help me, i walked out to the car and booked an apt at petsmart groomers. i will never shop here again. read more

Customer service in this store has been decent when purchasing items, although they are pretty expensive. I am giving this store one star because of my experience with grooming. I made an appointment a month in advance , brought my dog in and later found out she sat in a kennel for two hours and was called to pick her up because she was barking too much. I would expect my dog to not have to wait more than 30 mins for an appointment if we have had an appointment for one month. She was adopted so I would expect her to not enjoy being left in a strange kennel for a long period of time! Then, I communicated with the staff about my last experience. I made another appointment, early in the morning when they aren't as busy. They made sure my dogs vaccines were up to date so I was clear to bring her in on that date. The next week I bring her in to find out actually, the vaccines just expired the day before. I feel like too many careless mistakes have been made and the company is very unorganized. I will be looking else where to have my dog groomed! read more
