The vet techs are amazing!! They're always sweet with my pups .. makes going to the vet easy on all of us ...

My pup had an ear infection, and I was having a heck of a time getting an appointment for her that wasn't booked out a week or more away. I called six or seven different vets in the area until one suggested I reach out to Newberg Veterinary Hospital as they are a little bigger and might be able to squeeze us in. Sure enough, they kindly booked us an urgent care appointment for the very next day! Even better, when they had a cancellation the morning of, they gave us a call and offered to move us to an actual appointment. The urgent care appointments are open for an hour and they just see you as soon as they have availability, so we while we would have happily kept that spot, it was nice not to have to wait with a miserable dog. Not only that, but it is my understanding that they will accept walk ins, too. Having had a not-so-great experience at an emergency vet, it is comforting knowing this is an option. Once in, everyone from the front desk staff to the vet techs and doctor herself were so pleasant and friendly. My Great Dane wanted to meet ALL THE PEOPLE but they have a small divided section off to the side of the waiting room which was nice as I could take her over there a little away from the excitement and she could just relax and stop bugging everyone. We waited maybe five minutes, and then once we were taken back to the room they were super fast too! We only had a few minutes wait between the exam, running tests, and pulling her meds. We saw Dr. Johnson and she was so patient with my anxious pup, explained the diagnosis and medications clearly, and happily answered questions. My favorite part of all: I was able to pay in the room and head right on out! It is so nice not to have to go back to the front desk and wait for help and then make payment. Only real negative I can give is that parking is pretty limited, so just plan ahead as it might be a bit of a struggle to find a spot. I can hardly complain about that, though, I am so grateful to have found a kind veterinary clinic that is able to see my pets on short notice. read more

After so many years, since 2000, it was so worth driving from Portland to Newberg for care. Sadly those days are over now. So sad to see this happen. The blow that pushed us away forever was being unable to get our favorite vet to take our 13 year old over the rainbow bridge. I so miss the way they used to be. read more

We had been bringing our dog here for years. After being told it would be 3 months for a checkup, we took our dog to a different vet. Upon the first visit, the new vet was able to diagnose our dog's hair loss and skin problems as very severe hypothyroidism. We had brought up the symptoms to Newberg Vet and they basically said to "monitor and let them know if it got worse." I cannot recommend the vet as they overlooked symptoms that were apparently common telling signs of hypothyroidism and if we had waited the 3 months, our dog might have died. read more

I have been a client there for years. Recently I wanted to bring my dog in for a foreign body that she had eaten. This was on a Saturday morning and I was told to go to an emergency clinic because they no longer have weekend care for the animals. We have been a client of Newberg Vet since 2020. When we first started getting care for our dog during COVID, they were great! Accommodating, caring, compassionate - all the things you look for in a vet when trusting them with the care for fur baby. However, over the last year or so we felt the level or care and compassion was just not the same. The ability to even get an appointment was so frustrating. About 5.5 weeks ago our 14 year old dog was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Lymphoma. We decided to go the route of treating with Prednisone and would not be exploring any chemo treatments given her age and other ailments. She initially did ok for about 4 weeks. As things started to turn, I was able to email the front desk with questions about treatment and had a doctor respond fairly quickly. At this point I felt OK about the treatment we were being given - nothing special (and no consistency with the doctors), but OK. I sent an email Sunday night with some concerns about a sharp decline in her health and the need for her to see someone. The team did get back to me on Monday morning, but even given the situation, the best they could offer would have been an appt for a week and a half out (I told them she would likely not make it to the end of the week). There were no urgent appts for that Monday (no doc on staff to do them) and I was told I would have to call back on Tuesday to see if I could get an urgent appt, but no guarantees. There was no offer to help me make an urgent care appt for the next day, no 'oh I am so sorry let me talk to the team to see what we can do'. NOTHING. Except for the person to say "if you feel this is urgent you could visit the Tualatin location". I was left speechless. My dog was dying and having complications and they offered NOTHING. I felt abandoned when I needed some support and help and I felt helpless in trying to get the care I needed for my dog. I am a beliver that things happen for a reason and when Newberg failed me, I found a warm, loving, and compassionate place to take my dog for a quality of life assessment. We did say goodbye to her on that Monday, but she went peacefully in a caring environment. Newberg - where has your compassion gone? read more

Cannot say enough good things about this vet. Wonderful & compassionate family owned business! They are amazing & have taken wonderful care of my pets. Love the whole team not only their very experienced doctors but receptionists & vet techs! I have never had a vet treat my pets as kindly as they have... when a pet stays there it is getting snacks from techs on lunch break, lots of snuggles & as you can see in the photo they even put little cut out hearts on my girls IV wrap when she was struggling . They put their hearts into their patients and treat them as family members not just another name on a chart. I see reviews about wait times if you don't have a pre-scheduled appointment etc but I think people need to understand that Newberg is one of the few vets left out there that takes walk-in's when their clients have an emergency vs telling them to go to an emergency clinic because they don't have an appointment available (like most vets do)... yes you may have to wait to be seen as a walk-in but it is nothing like 2-6 hour wait you would have at an ER. And being able to see my regular vet at an affordable price in an emergency is an amazing thing for them to offer their patients. Because of this I feel like the receptionists especially deserve more appreciation than they are given... they have tons of clients calling wanting immediate attention & handle it all with kindness & patience. Despite everything they have on their plate they have always been so amazing to me & I truly feel so lucky to be able to go to them. I had to make the tough decision to euthanize a pet with permanent paralysis yesterday and Dr Cassie Weber sat on the floor with me & talked everything through m for as long as I needed to feel at peace about it, shared about putting down her personal pet to help me feel better & was honestly just the best. Not once did I feel rushed or pressured & despite it being such a painful thing to do they made it such a peaceful experience for my pet. We had a great first visit here after we changed our vet to her since it's closer to home. The doctor and staff were all fantastic and the whole process was much quicker and efficient than we are used too. I also really appreciated that we did not feel upsold not even once whereas our last vet it seemed they always wanted us to buy more and do more at every visit. We never walked out not spending $500 or more and we definitely did not walk out spending that for our initial vet visit. From reception to back office everyone was great. read more

I am staying at the Marriott next door to this so called vet hospital . For the last two days, a dog has been barking and crying nonstop. This morning it woke us up again because it was crying all night and woke us up at 4am. We let front desk know at our hotel and they received other calls from guests with the same concerns. Hotel staff tried calling the vets office but they are closed on Sundays and the after hours vet they have listed said they don't have anyway to reach the staff at Newberg vet hospital. This is so frustrating and very unacceptable! People have left their pets there to be cared for, not to be neglected for over 24 hours! They are paying a lot of money and their pets are being disregarded. I hope this message gets out to the public and everyone stays away from this so called vet hospital! I hope this dog is ok. What a horrible experience today with the front desk staff member. So disappointing, we have come here for years spending thousands of dollars on our pet. We used to really love this place. They seemed interested in our pets and the doctors had wonderful bedside manners, but in the last year,l or so the customer service here has really gone downhill. The office staff always seems frustrated if you ask questions or like you're bothering them they say all the right things but don't follow through and after the third call spanning over a month, trying to get my pet flea and tick medicine and requesting a refill on a prescription medication they have seen fit to not even contacted me. I called them today and she said that the refill had been denied and that they needed to see her, but it would've been great for them to get back to us at all at all and be able to see her while there was a flareup because she was miserable for about two weeks.... I think we've decided to go elsewhere.... A few of the vets there recently really need to work on their customer service skills.... The place is much more busy than it used to be and that may be good for them, but it doesn't seem like a staff is handling it well. read more

My frenchie got his nares done and neutered by Dr. Weber. They were available for all my questions and understood my nervousness. After dropping my boy off, I got a call from Dr. Weber right before he went into surgery just to let me know how Theo was doing and when I will be contacted again. Everything happened just as they explained and I was so grateful! I had questions a few days after surgery and Dr. Weber was so available and attentive through it all. I wish I lived closer so I could go to them for all our dogs care, but a 2 hour drive is just no logical for that read more

I want to give 5 stars because I like the dr (Ascim) who has shown great care for my lab at a reasonable cost. The reason for only 3 stars has to do with my dissatisfaction with their boarding services. Our dog was supposed to have had a bath which they didn't do until the last minute as if they forgot and then made me wait 30 minutes to pick her up while they did a rush job. She still smelled like dog and has scratched every part of herself since bringing her home. I don't think they rinsed her off very well leaving her skin dry and itchy. Needed to take her somewhere else the next day to give her relief. Then she must have slept on a hard surface because, after only 3 nights there, she came home with abrasions and calloused elbows on her front legs and a sore patch on her stomach. And, to top things off, we had to get medicine for a UTI which she didn't have before. When I got her home that evening she had to pee 2-3 times an hour. I suspect they did not take her out of the pen enough to be relieved properly. Even her bedding smelled of urine and she has never done that at home. This lowered my initial rating of 5 to a 4. We also boarded a second dog at the same time. She was supposed to have gotten a vaccine update on the first day so they could monitor her for any reaction. On the morning of the day to pick her up we asked if this had been done. The receptionist first said no because her computer said the shots hadn't been done. When pushed as to why not she quickly said it must just be glitch. We suspect they didn't do the vaccine and did that at the last minute, too. Needless to say, the 2nd dog got sick the very next day When we told one of the workers about the concerns we had, she got snippy and didn't take any responsibility for our concerns. Thus lowering my 4 and to a 3. So, great doctor care but lousy for boarding. Great vet service but lousy for boarding Updated July 7: Very very unhappy with their boarding. My lab (an inside dog) got a bacterial infection after being boarded here. It cost me &360 to take her to another vet because when we called to bring her, as the infection was spreading on her skin, they put us off for two weeks. Totally unacceptable. I have now moved my 5 to a 1. August 24: No "0" available? Just when you'd think they can't get worse! My lab suffered a leg injury and took her there because my other vet was booked out. Was told to bring her in by 3. Got there at two and notified them. Was told a 15-30 minute wait and they'd come get her. An hour later, called and was told to wait. Another 30 minute wait Called again, no apology, just wait. This went on until 430 - two and a half hours sitting in a car, being told to be patient. I finally left and they called at 520. Are you kidding me!!!!! Never, never again. Poor customer service for human and pet alike. Rude, discourteous, disrespectful and oblivious to my injured pet. read more

Absolutely the best possible care. I took my girl in to have her c section. Dr weber gave me his personal cell phone number and stayed in contact with me. They were very caring and treated my girl like it was their own child. During the c sectrthe nurses were so fast and getting the puppies to breath and clean them still being gentle. It was impressive how much they cared for my girl. Trimmed her nails, cleaned her ears. I was in the back were generally no one is allowed I saw them care for others dogs, they were gentle, loving and talked to them, pet them, it was genuine care and love for others dogs. We've been clients here for over 17 years. Over that time, they have provided vet care for the 3 cats and 6 dogs we've had. The vet care in general is good. Dr. Tripp is great. They used to be excellent, but over the past 3 years, it's changed. I chalked it up to Covid, and hoped things like wait times and front desk interactions would get better, but now we are to the point where we are seeking another vet. The final straw: One of our dogs takes an arthritis medicine that is vital to her comfort. I ordered a refill 5 days before we ran out. The pharmacy faxed the vet office 3 times. I followed up with them 3 times as well, and got emails back saying "thanks for your patience", but no confirmation that they were sending the refill. Finally, a week later, I called the pharmacy again. They still didn't have the prescription. I called the front desk, explained the situation and Janelle said, "It's not my fault. I didn't do it." (Not helpful). She said they had sent it that morning. I asked for her to follow up with the pharmacy as they had told me that they hadn't received it. She told me that she couldn't do that. I explained that I had just talked to the pharmacy and they didn't have it. "Sorry." I asked to speak with her supervisor. She told me that I could leave a message with her to pass on. I finally talked her into calling the pharmacy and checking. She never got back to me. I called the pharmacy two hours later and they told me that someone just called it in. 8 days to get a simple prescription filled. My dog limped around for two days without her meds. The front desk staff did not care. Are they overworked? Is this a systems problem? That is entirely possible. Regardless, the outcome for clients is long wait times in line to check in and out and a staff interaction experience where you go away feeling like you are the problem. We've spent roughly $60k with them over the years. They rebuilt 5 dog knees, did 3 intestinal blockage surgeries and 2 cancer surgeries. Our dogs have had dentals and regular check-ups. And honestly, I don't think they will notice or care that we've left. I get that the vet industry is in crisis but my dogs deserve consistent quality care and I deserve a not-terrible front desk experience. I don't even need them to be excellent, just not anxiety-provoking. read more

This is the BEST Vet we gave run across in the Portland and surrounding areas. They've taken care of all three of our animals, from our puppy to our old lady dog, and were the only ones who have properly been able to diagnose the GI issues with our older cat after half a dozen other vets couldn't for the last twelve years. The fact that this vet is so good, is a double-edged sword, though. We have been coming here prior to Covid, and it was easy to get appointments, easy to move appointments, etc. Since Covid, they've gotten so busy, and have continued to take on so many new customers (this is a good thing for the business) that those of us who have been loyal customers for years have to book appointments three and four months out just to get our animals seen...otherwise the suggestion is to bring them in for Urgent care visit and wait six or eight hours. But when it's suggested to EVERYONE that they bring their animals in for an Urgent Care appointment, this no longer becomes urgent care - it's just a walk-in. We are looking for a new vet which sucks, Because like I said, they're the very best. But PLEASE stop taking on new customers so your existing loyal customers can actually get their animals seen! We have voiced our frustration every time we book an appointment with the front desk. We love you guys for taking care of our animals. read more

This is a long over due review. I was referred to this clinic by my breeder after my little Coco broke her legs, and needed surgery. Her main go to vet Dr. Weber was on vacation at the time, the breeder had called and made arrangements with Dr. Fisher to get her in right away. He had cleared his schedule on a Friday to get her on the books. I was so appreciative, and happy he was able to do this for us. She stayed the weekend after surgery. The surgery went well. After I picked her up she she piddled on her casts, I brought her back to see one of the women vets who was not really familiar with the situation I guess, because she decided they were not wet enough to change. The surgeon was on vacation at this point, and so was the main vet. I was new here, so I was not sure what to think. A few days went by her cast started to smell, so I took her to the vet in my home town. Thankfully I did because she ended up with infection, and her plates were exposed. They helped her best they could, and said to take her back, and they spoke to the vet who didn't change them. She wasn't sure how to care for her at the time so I waited for Dr Weber's return. My breeder had told me what a wonderful vet he is, and has full trust in him. Now I am sure infection happens, and mistakes happen especially when there is distance, and also when an emergency surgery happens then gets handed off to another vet who is not familiar with the situation. I would like to think that is the case here. I am giving the woman vet the benefit of doubt. I don't want to slam her, I want her to learn. Because there is always growth from mistake. Now onto when I took Coco into see Dr.Weber for his care. I couldn't be more pleased! He sat down with me from day one, and asked what the situation was, and then hospitalized her so she could get daily care. He sent me daily pictures when he could, or at least daily updates on her progress. I went up to visit her at least once a week. During this time I could tell she was being well taken care of because when I was there she didn't seem to be heavily sedated, she looked well groomed, she was in good spirits, and didn't seem to care when I handed her back to staff. She loved the staff, and they loved her. She was pretty well spoiled in fact. From what I hear she was carried around, and taken out of her kennel quite often always wanted to be held. She was here for well over a Month, with wonderful care. I had to bring her back once a week, and then pretty soon it was once every two. I can tell you the people I talked to love it here, and you can tell. It is always busy, and you can tell that the vets here love the animals they see. I see the other vets walk through to see their patients, and the clientele with smiles. So the one star reviews are kind of shocking to see. I am really glad I had a great experience. Even my other dogs loved going here just to visit Coco. I can't thank Dr. Weber, and his staff enough for what he has done for Coco. I never thought she would recover from any of this. Today she has fur back on where she had surgery, and she walks on her legs. Not 100%, but hey it is better than what she was. She is on the road to recovery thanks to Dr. Fishers surgery, and Dr. Weber's after care. Heck yeah, we would return! Coco recommends them for any of your pet care needs, or boarding! Oh wait, so do I! Paws up, and thumbs up All of the above was written for care about one year ago, and I still stand behind them. Since then, during the summer Coco was pregnant, I got in touch with Dr.Weber. I am thankful I did because she had to have a C section a few days early while I came into the office. Dr.Tripp was here to assist. They were both so awesome with Coco, and her puppies. The staff genuinely cares about your pets here. They still remembered Coco from her stay, and Coco still remembered them. She was so spoiled there, she never gets antsy like most dogs do at the vets. She is usually a Momma's girl, but here she trusts enough to let them take off with her with out me. Still worth the drive. read more

Misdiagnosed my dogs tumor, delayed her surgery. When she finally DID have surgery, Dr. Fischer didn't correctly identify the type of tumor (he assured me it was benign) and didn't get clean margins. Once pathology of the tumor came back (left the results on a voicemail, not very compassionate) he wanted to resect SIGNIFICANTLY more tissue at significant cost to me and my elderly dog. I feel like I lost years of my dogs life from his lack of diligence because I couldn't afford another costly surgery. read more

I'm getting ready to move back to Oregon and Newberg specifically and was checking Yelp to see if they're still decent or if I should find someone else to look after my dog's health. Based off the comments Km reading, particularly the last few years, it's clear their front desk staff are still awful; there enough negative reviews that I'm going to bypass them altogether. It's clear they're not super into their customers based off their lack of responses and declining reputation. I was on the fence in 2019 when I left and have seen enough to know that I won't return next month when I'm back. Newberg vet is amazing IF you're seeing Dr. Webber. But tonight I had a TERRIBLE experience. 6 week old frenchie puppy started acting very sick, having seizures, screaming so I thought well if I usually take all my other dogs there, I should take her. They closed at 430pm, but have an emergency doctor on call. I was told that they were not taking emergencies because they had to many surgeries. I'm glad that they couldn't see my possible dying dog because surgeries were more important. Drove back to Salem with my little girl, holding her while she seized and screamed. **update** Had to do CPR on the puppy due to lungs being full of blood causing her to stop breathing. We've been going here for over 20 years. Now you spend next to NO time with the doctor. They take your pet away. You wait in the general waiting area, not a private room. Pet is delivered to you in the waiting room and the doctor spends a minute explaining the visit while standing in the waiting room. Not very conclusive to asking questions. The vets and medical professionals who have cared for my frenchies are GREAT! The receptionists are horrific. They are rude and don't respond to phone calls. When a voicemail is left, I've been told that their transcription program doesn't work well so the call backs seem like the receptionist hasn't listened to my voicemail. (For example, I called because my dog who had a c section was exhibiting some concerning behavior and I wanted to see if I needed to bring her in. The receptionist called back asking when I wanted to SCHEDULE, a c section). It's extremely frustrating to never have the receptionist listen or take the time to understand your pets needs. Another example, I emailed (because calls and voicemails don't work) asking to confirm my dogs appointment time, I got an email back saying "LOL I don't know who that (dog) is" and asking me to call them back (again they don't answer nor do they listen to their voicemails). Another example, I came in to pick up my dog and her puppies and the purple haired receptionist gave me attitude since I didn't bring a box. I told her I could easily go and buy a box to put the bed I brought in. She got pissy with me, looked at me like I was dumb when I answered her question about payment method, and then responded, "so are you going to give me the bed NOW?" Absolutely rude. I hope this office offers some training for their receptionists and creates a better system that tracks who they patients are and finds a way to respond and actually listen to pets needs. read more

This clinic assists wealthy breeders taking dogs away from families. The dogs are not their priority. They have assisted in doing this numerous times leaving children and families crying in the parking lot while the puppy mill breeder takes the dog out the back door. read more

the breeder of a puppy I purchased uses this establishment. When the puppy was delivered to me, I was given a copy of her vet exam as a condition of completing the sale. The puppy passed the exam by this vet, stating everything appeared normal. The puppy was delivered to me on 12/11/21. I took her to my vet today for a wellness check, which is required by the breeder/purchaser contract. Imagine the heartache I felt when MY vet told me this pup had a grade 2/5 heart murmur, a bladder infection and crystals in her urine. The exam from Newberg Vet was dated 8 days before my puppy arrived. A grade 2 murmur isn't even a CLOSE call. That should have been caught at the vet visit. And, a grade 2 heart murmur doesn't develop in 8 days time. My only conclusion is that the vet who performed this exam is inept and shouldn't be practicing. I had to return the puppy to the breeder. NEVER in my nearly 60 years on this planet, have I ever purchased a puppy that didn't pass it's wellness exam. I had become so attached to this little puppy in the two days I had her and my heart is broken. So in essence, I spent a lot of money, based on the clear exam provided by this clinic, on a puppy I loved. I cared for her and became attached to her, only to learn that she was ill, at 8 weeks, mind you. The breeder lost more than I did. He lost a day's wages because he had to deal with this issue. He lost the money on the dog. Do NOT bring your dog here for ANY reason. If they can miss a grade 2 murmur, God only knows what else they would miss. If your breeder provides you with a vet exam from Newberg Vet Clinic, DO NOT trust it. Do yourself a favor and have your breeder meet you at YOUR vet and once the puppy gets the all clear from your own vet, only THEN take possession of the pup. Trust me.
