If you can believe, my cat just turned 18. To commemorate this, and spoil her at the same time, I decided she needed a gift fit for such an occasion. I saw Petco in the distance and made my way here. I already knew I was going to get her a cat tree and was prepared to do some heavy lifting and take as much time as needed to put the thing together. I wandered for a bit in here, actually got distracted by the dogs here for obedience training and went the long way to get to the area that held the cat trees. I was literally right next to them but did a loop around the store before realizing it. I took some time to look over the types they had and was grateful that they had some built and on display so you could get an idea of the size. The sizes are listed on the boxes, but sometimes a visual cue is more helpful. Decided on the one I wanted to snag and went to grab a cart to load it up. Once loaded I headed to the registers. Here is where it got a bit muddled. I was in line and this lady just decided she would jump in front of me because she thought since she was going over the dog treats and it was there it was obvious she was in line. No lady, if you are browsing, you are not in line to pay. Whatever, check out and keep it moving. Once to the register the guy asked me for my phone number to look up my rewards number. I told him it and he said it wasn't in the system. Odd, because I have been shopping at Petcos for nearly two decades. Luckily I had the card stored on my phone and that brought me up. He told me the number that was used when I registered way back when and, lord, that was an old number. He went in and changed it really quickly so the next time I wouldn't run into that. Once I got home, I had to put the cat tree together. Once together, my now adult cat (if we look at it in human years) had her own apartment inside my apartment. Why not? She's grown now and she deserved her own place. She is loving here new, high up perches and naps quite a lot. read more

Have bought a lot of livestock for both salt and fresh water tanks. Their aquatics team is great, and the fish are always in good health. One of the best PetCo's I have been too. read more

We have taken out dog for grooming/nail buffing here since she was a pup. However the last 3 times she seemed very stressed and did not want to be left there. Not sure what has happened there but I will listen to my dog, and will go elsewhere. read more

I took my mini schnauzer in for a hair cut. Her legs were matted and a few in her beard. I told them to shave her down to the skin but just cut the mattes out of her beard. When I picked her up, she was shaved all over. Her beard and eyebrows gone. I'm not one to cause a scene, so I just left. When I got home I had a text saying my next appointment was scheduled. Needless to say, I cancelled. I wish they would have reached out to me to maybe say her face was worst than I thought and this is what she recommends instead of doing what I specifically asked not to do. I brought a Tundra, a Pyrenees mix rescue, into my house 7/22. She was approx. 18 months at the time. I knew she needed training. Petco in Front Royal, VA was my choice due to its affordability and proximity. There I had the great fortune to meet Dorothy, Dottie, their trainer. She was an awesome trainer. I was entirely impressed by Dottie's calm demeanor, breath of experience, and understanding of Tundra's and my needs. She has helped me greatly to be Tundra's friend not her owner. read more

We took our little, wild rescue dog to Petco training. Dottie the trainer was wonderful. Her methods are kind to both the dog and the owners. She had our little dog doing basic commands starting with the first lesson. I highly recommend Dot and her methods. read more

Had an appointment to get my dog groomed. Got there the lady at the front desk was rude! Asked if the dog was on medication apparently they cannot take a dog that is on Prozac daily. Should definitely be something that they notify you of prior to the appointment. read more

I was refused service because I wouldn't put on a face diaper. The cashier pulled one out of her dirty apron and said I need to wear it so I can purchase my items... I was walking around the whole store asked a few other sales reps some questions and they didn't say a word to me about not wearing a face diaper so... I mean come one, let's use some critical thinking skills, I don't know when the last time that apron was washed as it was clearly dirty too. She was working at the register touching cash that is insanity dirty and then thinks I am going to put on a mask she pulled from her apron! Come on people also there is an Executive order 64 section d with 6 reasons the excuse you from wearing a mask. I mean any doctor will tell you walking is exercise and yeah I was walking in the store. See the stupid loop holes there are if you read the letter of the law. If you are willing you give up a little freedom for a faules sense of security you deserve neither freedoms or safety! WAKE UP!!! read more

She taught us so much about growing our relationship with our dogs by working on commands and routines that will benefit us as humans living with dogs. This review is for the Fish Department. DO NOT BUY FISH HERE! This PetCo location is selling fish infected with Ich. Not only are the fish sick, the employees *know* about it, and are still selling them. We purchased a few, got them home where we got a closer look, and returned them the next day. I was shocked and horrified when the employee knew what was wrong before we even said, and admitted to us they are having a "big problem with it". For shame. read more

Poor management. Had a grooming scheduled and drove 30 minutes each way. When I arrived, they asked about medications and I told them my dog took CBD supplements, sold by them, and they told me I would have to bring her back when she hadn't taken them for at least 24 hours. No questions about this when we scheduled the appointment. I have 4 cats and 2 dogs and used to spend $200 a month here. No longer. Poor customer service. read more

This was the worst store I've ever been into! We entered, no one asked if we needed help. We waited about 20 minutes, then I had to find help! This lady was not happy I asked for help. We came in to buy two parakeets, so the whole 20 minutes we were observing how they got along and which one we wanted to take home. My son was asking a few questions and everything was negative! We understood why she didn't want us to buy the parakeets, because she didn't want to do her job! Her attitude sucked! Then, I the manager or supervisor came and she was smiling, and kind of having fun while trying to get the parakeet. Needless to say the manager was the one who had to come back and secure the parakeet. My son had to choose a different parakeet because she was giving him an attitude, then when I came back from looking at the accessories he said he picked the yellow one, and I asked him; why did you pick the yellow when you wanted the blue? He said because he didn't want to deal with her. And so I said, you are going to pick the one you want and you're going to take the yellow back, of course she was very upset! We were not trying to be a pain, we just wanted to choose our parakeets! So now the parakeets are in the box, but we have to take them home without the wings being clipped because the person who does that was not there. Now we have to come back, these birds already went through a traumatizing experience it took them two days to eat & drink. They were terrified! I do not know why they put people like that in places like this when you have to deal with other people. When you work in these environments, you have to be a people person, Customer service it's all about helping people and hospitality. This Petco does not have it. I'd rather drive 30 minutes to Winchester where they actually treat you like a human being. I am hoping that the manager or supervisor can look at these reviews and see that there's something wrong with their store. If not they need to hire a new manager to crack a whip! read more

Actually stocks the only food that my cat can eat and for a fraction of the price of nearby stores. Cats are also filtered in and out of the adoption center (where we got our cat), and the service members are very friendly and open to questions. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! Made an appointment a month out and THEY canceled 3 days out giving me a 20% off coupon to use for my inconvenience IF I brought them in within 30 days. THEN when trying to schedule they had nothing within 30 days where I could bring both pets in at same time except something at a different location over an hour a way. My cats will trash my car and crap everywhere in a car ride more then 30 minutes. Customer service was simply horrible and there was no way to resolve the issue and get me back in within a reasonable time for THEIR cancellation. read more

The employee also suggested decorations that would work well in the tank we have and how to clean the water. We are new this area and have had bad experiences at Petco before, so we were very hesitant at first. The store associates are always very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The main reason to review was our multiple experiences at the grooming department. Both times we were able to schedule an appointment within days and at our convenient time. Our pets were always ready before the time scheduled and when we picked them up they seemed happy and not stressed. We have a Malamute and GSD and in 9 years of having them groomed I don't think I've seen such a good job. Both times we have had Cassie and she has done an AMAZING job with them every time, Thank you. We will definitely be back. read more

I had s terrible experience at this store on August 23, 2018. The employee in the fish department was extremely rude. I have completed the satisfaction survey they send customers twice and called the corporate office. I have been informed 3 times that a manager would be calling but that had not happened. Have been to other departments in this store several times in the past and never had a problem. read more

I give this Petco 3 stars because their store is really nice and they have a wide range of toys and supplies for just about any pet. However, their grooming service was AWFUL. I took my shih tzu puppy in for his 2nd grooming. I asked for a puppy cut. When the girl behind the counter asked what that was, I should have immediately left. Anyways, after she figured out what a puppy cut on a shih tzu was supposed to look like, I told her I wanted him cut a little shorter on his belly to prevent matting. When my fiancee picked him up, he was completely shaved! AND they charged us $70. Never again will I take my dog to get groomed there. read more

We were walking around looking at all the dog toys and my sister comes up to me upset because she was told to stop kissing her girlfriend!! Apparently they did not approve of this and had asked them to stop. After that we felt very uncomfortable being in the store and left. As we were leaving the people working there watched us leave and watched us stand in the parking lot trying to figure out where else we could go for dog toys... I am very upset today because Petco does not seem to appreciate their customers. I called the manager and the national chain number twice and they do not understand why I am so upset. So, I shop there all the time. I go in about every three to four days and spend a couple hundred a week on pet supplies. I have eight pets in all and they like to eat and I buy them as healthy food as I can. Anyway, last week, the employee who usually checks us out asked us how many pets we have and commented that we come in the store a lot. I let it go at the time, but it made me uncomfortable that I had to explain why I go to a store for pet supplies. I went in a few days later and was thankful to not see her or to be questioned for buying pet food. Today, I forgot about her and I went in for cat food and dog food and some toys for my cats and my dog turning 1 on Friday. Yes, that same clerk checked us out, but this time she said we must be stalking her because we are back again. I get it that she thinks she's funny, but how is counting how many times a customer comes in funny. It's humiliating. It's their loss that I don't want to shop there again. Teasing customers for shopping in the store is not okay, not cute and not funny. The grocery store doesn't say a word even if I go there twice in one day. What does it matter how many times I shop there? You'd think they'd be happy selling products, but no, making a big deal that I buy pet supplies seems to be the priority. I won't go back. read more

Do not purchase pet training classes from these people! They will rip you off! I purchased 4 One hour classes from a trainer named Carrie last July. Cost was $219. I took my pup in for one class. The trainer did not seem professional at all, spoke about her personal life for 30 min then took a 10 min smoke break. Was not pleased with the first class. I was going too try another trainer but then my dog broke his femur bone and had a long recovery. When he was well enough I went back to the store to try to speak to the new trainer, the old one had been let go due to customer complains. The new trainer told me to bring my contract in. It took me sometime to find it. So I went in today with contract and she was not there. I had to speak to the manager on duty. Who was extremely rude to me and my husband, she kept talking over us and not listening. She wanted me to have a receipt for the transaction that was on July 19th, 2015 in the amount $219. I only had the contract with me at the time. She kept saying to me why I waited so long to come in and that I only had 60 days. Which I was told when I purchased the classes that I had a year to complete. I feel like I got completely ripped off! will not be going back here again. I have been a pals reward member since 2008. All I wanted was for them to honor what I paid for. Bad service! Save your money for a professional company. read more
