On Nov 25 2023 we brought our dog to get his rabies shot here. Prior to this he had been checked out and we were told he was healthy and everything was fine. He was only a year and two months old, still a baby!!! We decided on bringing him here to get his shots since it was highly recommended. We assumed we could trust this place, the amount of dogs they see on a daily basis would make any pet parent feel at ease. Less than an hour after receiving his shots we took him home. A few minutes after getting home, our dog passed! Pretty sure the woman who gave him his shots gave him a bad dose. Our dog was a huge part of the family, he was just a baby. It's so unfair this happened to us and we are still having a difficult time with this, we will forever be traumatized with this experience. Please save do not bring your fur babies here. read more

I love this location. Everyone is so nice and the groomers always take care of my dog. Padyn is always so friendly and returns my dog so fresh and so clean :) For the reviews on their low inventory perhaps reading or watching the news would answer your concerns. There is a shortage in supply chain not just at Petco but at MANY stores AND restaurants and if they don't have something in stock the employees have helped me search for it at a different location or online. I drove all the way over here because I don't have issues whenever I come this particular evening not really sure why they were closing at 6 PM. Initially, I was not going to get help but at the end of the day I did get help. This is for the above and beyond on the behalf of the lady working who I believed was the manager at the time. There's a possibility that till or system have to be updated but regardless customers should not have to be affected by system updates, they should be done before or after hours. I don't know about these negative reviews for this location, it's a Petco with employees doing the best they can during a pandemic. My husband bought us some goldfish for our porch aquarium July 3rd, 2020, it was a simple in and out experience. We waited in the car and he said the employees were fast while he was in there. We've gone to this place for various pet supplies over the years and have never had any issues. I have no dog to groom so it sounds bad what some of these reviewers have experienced. We've had a bunny, several parakeets, fish, and two dessert tortoise. Our experience has always been positive buying supplies. Ugly Incident with Nasty Manager Debbie at Downey Petco. On Tuesday 09/29/21 I had an appointment 1 month in advance at 5pm. When I got to store I see the head groomer looking at her watch and I was telling my friend she's going to make some excuse because she wants to go home early. Sure enough after I see her talking with other employees for a few minutes she comes out and says I cannot groom your dog she's too knotted? I have a 9lb Shih Tzu. I then asked for the store manager who wasn't there so the Asst. Store Manger came. I explained to her I made the appt. one month in advance and that the head groomer was making an excuse. You can see on the Camera at around 5pm Me talking to her, she agreed the Dog didn't appear to be that knotted and she herself had a Shih Tzu, but she said unfortunately she cannot make the decision and so she told me Debbie was the store manager and she would be in tomorrow. Hence the Nightmare continues...What a nasty unhappy employee. I called her approximately 5:45pm and she was nasty as soon as she begun talking. Saying the Groomer has the right to refuse service. I guess Petco can discriminate whenever they want, but I explained it had nothing to do with the dog being knotted. After her being real nasty and unprofessional with me, which can be verified on a recorded call on Petco's end I asked for her Manager and a phone number, before she would even give me a number she hung up the phone on me (Kind of like a 10 year old). I called right back another employee answered and I ask for her, they put me on hold and after a minute they (Most likely Debbie hung up again) 3 separate times as can be verified by Petco and their employees. Come to find out from another store many employees have left that store because Debbie is such a nasty person, apparently she hasn't been at the store for so long. I cannot believe this day in age Petco would want Debbie representing their company. She seems very unhappy, rude and nasty. My advice to Petco: If you are that unhappy with your job you should seek work elsewhere. I've dealt with many Petco store employees over the years who are friendly and helpful, kind of what you would expect. Petco Management can verify by looking at the Cameras and listening to the call when she hung up. I do plan to escalate this to Senior Company Representative to find out if indeed Petco can refuse service simply on the basis of an employee wanting to go home early and being lazy. If this is the case I lost 2 hours of work because I took off and I made the appt. 1 month in advance. Sad day for Petco. If you can refuse service because of that you lost a Customer and you will lose many more with Staff like this. I've been taking my dog to this location since he was a puppy! This time due to COVID-19 our original groomer wasn't there and my dog needed a grooming ASAP because we didn't want him to get matted. I was a little nervous because we've only had one person groom him. We had WAYNE help us out and he did an AMAZING job! Definitely got rid of my nerves once I saw he was gentle with my pup. I went to Petco to prepare for my kittens arrival. Being a first time pet owner I was very confused to what food to buy and I asked for help. I was told that someone would be there shortly. I waited but no one came so I went up to pay for 3 small cans of food. The cashier asked me if I found everything I was looking for and I told her I needed help but no one came. She immediately asked her coworker to take over and gave me a full tour of the cat section. She recommended different brands in different price ranges and helped me understand the differences between the brands and their ingredients. She also told me that if the kitten wouldn't eat what I bought I could bring it back and get something else instead. She is the reason why I'm giving this store 5 starts. Today was my first visit to the groomer at this location, no complaints about the way my dog Luna looked at the end, I made the appointment online for a "bath and Haircut"; once I checked in never was mention to me anything about the "pick 3 spa package" or what were the services included with my request whatsoever. My surprised was when i paid, I was charged $68 total. for a bath and long hair cut $46 plus an additional charge of $22 for the pick 3 spa package; which again I didn't order nor was explain or even offered. The employees should explain what's additional of charge and ASK if you're interested. I called a month ago, and a few times after, left my name and number to find out if it is possible to order 40 of the same fish, for my wedding( Jan.11) I spoke to Zac and he said to call on Jan. 2 between 5-5:30pm because they place orders weekly. Great. I call today (Jan.2nd at 5:21pm) to place the order and he calls back 2 hours later , tells my fiancé that he cannot sell these fishes to us. He also stated that he has no idea whom we spoke to, that they have no idea what they're doing, and fibbed saying that we have never spoke to him before today, and this was the only time he had received this call. This is outrageous and inconsiderate. As he stated, I most certainly agree that he has no idea what he's doing. I came into Petco looking for a bigger tug training toy and training treats since my dog is growing at a crazy rate. I originally purchased a tug rope similar to this one that I bought today but 3 times smaller and in 2 weeks my dog destroyed it during training. By the way it's the first pitbull I've ever owned and I'm just surprised at how sweet and intelligent they are. Just don't mess with her or else she'll turn into the hulk. Anyways so as I'm looking around in the store that by the way is massive. A guy named Joseph helped me pick out some toys and treats that he recommended from experience. This guy knows his stuff. It's good to know that I wasn't being pushed into buying stuff I didn't need. In fact he suggested stuff that was way cheaper in price than the stuff I was choosing. He knew way more than I expected him to know. I was just amazed that even though he was busy he still put his stuff aside to assist me throughout the store in finding exactly what I needed and not what was going to hurt my wallet. The store is definitely on the pricier side but it doesn't matter because it's the customer service that's going to have me coming back again and again for years to come. I am so disappointed. I have been taking my small yorkie here to be groomed with Dani for a year and have had 0 issues. So today I did a walk in for a nail trim for my 6 month old Australian cattle dog. He is medium. It was his first time around so many people and barking dogs. So he was barking and the female, short, African American groomer who was doing the intake was giving us such nasty looks. So I tried to calm him down because I was worried she would be prejudiced to my dog. I gave all the vaccination info and then she came out to him and he smelled her but then she went to grab his paw when he was turning and by then her whole vibes were making me nervous. So is it a surprise my dog got nervous and didn't like that she went to grab his paw? No. So she went off saying I should go somewhere else like a vet and sedate him. Obviously I wasn't going to get any service done now that she proved my gut feelings right. But before I left I made sure to tell her that she had made ME nervous. Her whole behavior to a 6 month old 20lb dog just because he was being a 6 month old dog around a new environment. I cannot express how negative this experience is. I spend over $100 every month plus tip and toys on just my Yorkie. Now I just have a terrible taste in my mouth. Why are you even a groomer if you do not understand basic dog behavior? Terrible terrible service. I'm not one to ever leave bad reviews but this one did it for me. While shopping for dog food tonight I stumbled upon a fish tank I really like, had no price on it so I pull out my Petco app and scan it $49.99 I said great I'll take it. Went to the cashier this lady names Sonia asked her if she can check the price for me, she immediately said NO and that she couldn't help me despite of no one being in line to pay she refused to help me. Went to another gentleman in the store and he scanned the item for me. It's looks like the fish tank now was $250 lol I said no I just checked it out on the app and shoes it to him. He said that's no problem we can honor that. Sonia quickly came and said no we cannot. I thought she couldn't help me, yet she managed to leave the register and walk over to the fish section just to tell the gentleman that they could not honor it. I was under the impression that Petco would honor online pricing. Yes Sonia said and even called me a liar by saying that I had a screenshot and was not from the website after I clearly scanned the item multiple times with my phone. Update- I received a response soon after posting this review asking me to contact Petco via email. I have since emailed them twice and still no response after 6 days. Not sure what the point was to contact me on yelp but not respond to my email. My review is based on my past visit on Monday 2/20/17 for pet grooming. This Petco is our go-to pet store, the only place we've ever taken our Zoey for grooming and we've never had any issues until this visit. We noticed she came home with about 3-4 little cuts and no one said anything to us. I understand things may happens, maybe Zoey was a bit too excited this time, moving too much, but someone should've said something to me. I'm sure the groomer noticed when she cut her multiple times... like I said, we never had a problem before but I was disappointed this time. Her hair cut was good, like always, but I think the groomer should've came over to tell me about the little cuts instead of my daughter finding them on her dog once we were home. I'm keeping my eye on the small cuts, hopefully they don't get infected since she now keeps licking her small wounds. read more

I wanted to return a guinea pig because since the day i got it it seemed sick. She basically interrogated me asking me a million questions about how I had taken care of it like i was an idiot and didnt do my research before hand. I love god's creatures and i always did my best to care for them. But i didnt want to deal with a sick animal i had just brought home and i also decided it wasn't the best fit for my toddler. She didnt like that i had a child and said "i need to find out who sold it to you" like i had committed some kind of crime. It's a good place to stock up on most items your canine pal needs, the problem is the pricing. Almost everything I've seen here seems to be jacked up compared to other stores (especially online). While it's super convenient to have one place to purchase dog food, toys, etc I don't particularly like the feeling of being ripped off at the front. Worse customer service from the cashier assisting us today, whose name is Vivian. Her tone was extremely condescending. I was making a return on an item I bought online and she questioned me NOT ONLY once but FOUR TIMES, asking if I was sure that the item was from this store. Her continuous questioning made it seem as if I am there returning something that it isn't theirs or trying to steal from them. With the first answer that both my bf and I responded which was "YES, we are sure" should have been enough. Yet she kept on giving attitude as if she didn't want to take the return. She called her manager in hopes she would also say no about the return just because the item is not sold at their store. She acted like such a hateful person. Instead of finding ways to help she was trying to find any other way to NOT help. Like I said to her, "try pulling up the order before assuming the order isn't from there". I had found a stray dog on my way home from work and since SEAACA was already closed, I frantically hurried to Petco. An associate greeted me at the entrance and led me to a manager as I explained the situation. They were able to scan the dog for a microchip, but there was nothing. I was posting in search of a possible owner via social media, but that I'd rather keep the dog than take him to a shelter, if he went unclaimed. The manager and associate were so helpful, and hooked me up with a coupon book. I only ended up spending $30 and left with flea shampoo, a dog bed, a bag of food, a collar/leash and a little bone. This place has the best options available for your hungry puppy. The staff is very well trained to handle any situation that may arise in a room full of dogs. We took our dog Binky here to try to get her used to other dogs since she's an only child. She was pretty timid at first, but the other dogs were very well mannered and the trainer knew exactly what she was doing. Although I only speak English, it's great that they have a bi-lingual dog trainer here that can accommodate everyone. 4 stars since there was one occasion they had on their calendar listed for puppy play time, but when we showed up, we found out that had canceled it without updating their calendar. The manager did give us a generous discount, so that was nice. We just had to waste a trip. read more

Booked an appointment for my dog for a haircut and bath combo and was very disappointed not only of the result of the haircut but also how they tacked on more charges. The price I booked online was for $50 which includes bath, haircut, nail trimming and 2 other things. When I got to the groomers they told me it was going to be $68! They had tacked on another $10 which was for the nail trimming and 2 other things which were supposed to be included in the online price of $50! Then they added another $3 for the materials which was not even mentioned online! Then they say my dog needed a special, non-fragrant shampoo because of his dry, itching skin which would irritate the skin even more if they used the usual fragrant shampoo that they normally used. So they tacked on another $8 for the so called "non-fragrant" shampoo. So instead of paying $50 as was listed online, I paid $71! And as if this wasn't disappointing enough, the haircut was horrible! It was uneven everywhere! They did not trim the legs very well; the hairs were sloppy and sticking out every which direction! If you can't shave it, at least trim the hair with scissors! And the teddy bear look on the face...sloppy and crooked, so uneven, especially around the cheeks! Terrible! If the haircut was even the price wouldn't have been that bad. (Review is for the Vetco Clinic) Came here with my husband and 1 of my dogs yesterday afternoon to utilize the Vetco clinic services (every Sunday here from 10- 11:30 am). Our newest addition to our family needed to get his booster vaccinations and so we we arrived a little before 11 am. Since we always take all of our dogs to Vetco for our vaccinations or to get a prescription for flea medication, we have seen the same team of people working from location to location (Vetco clinics in selected Petco stores aren't open every week, some are only available every other week and such and so we have been to a few locations to whatever date and time is most convenient for us). The staff that was part of the Vetco team yesterday were very friendly and efficient. Anyways, after I filled out a form for what I wanted to have done for my dog (2nd boost of vaccinations and also micro chip), I received a bar code with a price tag on how much I have to pay and went up to the cashier and paid for it. The cashier was nice and friendly and had no problems with that transaction. This Petco location seems to be a little smaller than a few other Petco starts that I have been to before but the aisles looked clean of urine and other pet accidents, free of clutter in the aisles and the shelves seemed to be stocked. There is quite a bit of parking in the lot, but this Petco shares the lot with Coffee Bean and other stores, which I can see can cause an issue with parking during busy times. Overall, this store seemed clean and the employees I interacted with were friendly. The best thing about this location if the Vetco clinic being here every Sunday.(By the way, Vetco clinics offer cheaper prices on vaccinations and micro chipping services than traditional vet offices). read more

Extremely unhappy with my in-store pick order. I placed an order on March 15 for three bags of dog treats. I really enjoy placing orders online for in store pick, however, this time I didn't receive confirmation that my order was ready, instead i received an email stating my order had been picked up. I was no where near Petco at 10:05 am when i received this. There isn't anyone else on my account that has permission to pick up any of my items. I immediately called the store and a guy male employee answered. I asked him various times about my order and he never once went to checkup on my order... He just kept repeating "Oh your order should be there." How do you know if you haven't checked? But he kept repeating the same thing so i just believed my order would still be there. On March 18 I went in to pick my order. First of all I had to wait a long time in line, secondly i had to wait a long time for a manager to speak to me and the only reason she spoke to me is because i asked around for the manager, thirdly MY ORDER WAS NOT THERE! The manager could not find my order.... i asked if she could honor the price i paid online and i would re-buy the items again, "NO" was her response. She later charged me for my items and gave me a $5 pals rewards to use later (I can only use it in store at this location). I won't be coming here again, super unhappy, in store pick up is non-sense when clearly we place in store pick up to not wait in line and pick up our already paid items and we still have to wait? Then having someone take your dog treats that you've been charged for and having the manager charge you again for the same items you purchased but for regular price instead of the original on in store pick up offer of 10% off when you pick up in store. read more

Do yourself a favor and do not bring your pets in here for grooming. They don't have enough staff to check dogs in & out & when your pet is ready you have to wait until they're done grooming the pet they're working on. This is the 3rd time its happened to me. I've had to wait 30 mins + just to pick up my dog simply because they're unorganized and do not have enough staff. I pay over $100 for grooming you would think they would show great customer service to say the least. Never coming back again! read more
