This is honestly the best Petco in the area. Where others fall short, this one excels staff is incredibly friendly. It's well stocked and their trainer is very nice and communicates well. Easy to get in and out safely with my pet since it has pretty much its own parking lot. There are other stores in the area that it shares with, but there is a lot of parking spaces very close to the front door so I don't have to worry about crossing the street or crossing me very busy parking lot with my Pet. I love bringing my boys to kaylee! My German shepherd Cebolla loves her so much and is so excited to see her every time i bring him in. They have such a great relationship and it's almost like he wants to go home with her. My pitbull Hershey is usually pretty nervous but she gets him done super quick to get him home early. Good help is hard to find now a days, after shopping here for over 4 years I can honestly say this store has done a complete 180, today I walked into an empty store to pick up my website order and I see two employees having a bashful conversation about lack of security almost like I was in there to steal, no greeting, no nice welcome or hello, just continuing on with their conversation so I proceeded to interrupt them to let my presence known that I was their to pick up my order, mind you I was outside calling letting them know I was outside and no one answered the phone about 5 times of calling, so after I gave my name they handed me my bag so I asked for a supervisor because a a few days prior on a same day delivery order I mentioned to him that they forgot to packed my refrigerated dog food and after calling customer service they told me I had to dispute it with the store so I brought it to their attention and low and behold a light bulb went off in his head and he was like oh let me go grab it for you for this pick up order, after that it was apparent the same thing happened to my last same day delivery order, so when I brought it to his attention like don't you think the same thing happened last time he proceeded to put the blame on the driver for not checking the items then it went from I had to dispute it with door dash even though the order was placed on Petco.com and Petco took my payment, Jose the so called manager wasn't even apologetic and this pretty much sums up every Petco experience I've had this year as I even noticed they removed the rewards system on the website as well and replaced it with a dollar points system as I'm sure this company is going down the tubes, I will now be taking my business to petsmart and chewy and disputing any previous charges for missing items due to store negligence, like seriously how hard is it to check a bag to make sure everything is inside before handing it to someone, mind boggling, all in all, don't go here they don't value your business and I'm sure the environment is toxic due to the leadership team read more

Due to my busy schedule and no one answering the phones, I booked a grooming appointment online. I understand that they might the busy grooming a dog, so it was easier that way. I received a confirmation and went on about my week. Grooming day finally came, loaded up my dog, and arrived at the location only to be met with bad news. The grooming section looked closed, so we stood around for a few minutes before a groomer came out. They advised that we in fact did not have a reservation and maybe we booked it with pet smart or a different petco. I tried telling her that it was this petco, because it wouldn't make sense to go outside of the city when I live in Downey. She sat there clueless as we went back and forth, so I told her I had the confirmation but although we're not in the system, can she just take my dog as a walk in or schedule her in- since there were no dogs at the place anyway.... She said no, and recommended I call around to other grooming places to see if I might have booked with them. AGAIN. I literally had the confirmation. It would've been as easy as "sorry the system didn't show you, I'd be happy to take her in now since there are no dogs at the facility now" This literally pushed my entire schedule back and it was super frustrating. Thankfully, the petco in Bellflower was very accommodating and even though they had other appointments- they were willing to take her in within 30 minutes. So I guess I will just start driving the extra distance to a different location from now on, because I definitely wouldn't feel confident entrusting my dog to the responsibility of this groomer. read more

I'm extremely disappointed with the Petco grooming service. I paid extra for their pet care membership to enjoy the perks, and I even booked my appointment through the Petco app a month ago. However, today, I missed a phone call from the groomer, and shortly after, I received a cancellation text. To make matters worse, Petco canceled my appointment on my behalf, despite me receiving an appointment confirmation via email just 3 hours earlier and a text reminder. When I called Petco, the grooming company couldn't even muster an apology. The associate informed me that the groomer named Blair B was the one who canceled and didn't leave a message or return number. I explained how they had canceled on my behalf and suggested they could have at least left a name for a return call. To my dismay, they informed me that I couldn't have my appointment back as someone else had already taken it. The store manager's solution was a mere 10% discount, which feels like a waste of both my pet care membership and a prime example of terrible customer service. It's frustrating that appointments need to be made so far in advance, only to be canceled without notice. Worst customer service. Not even an apology. Just an "I don't know". Came in last month to buy a new collar for my pup and ended up getting a show too. As I was checking out, one of the groomers was yelling at another groomer very horribly and the one being scolded looked like she was about to cry. This happened weeks ago and I still can't stop thinking about it, so I figured I'd write this review. That was extremely unprofessional to witness and I only worry about how that groomer must speak to her coworkers in private. I ended up asking the cashier for the yelling groomer's name, and they said "yeah that's Blair, I'm sorry, she does that sometimes" So embarrassing and ridiculous. Do better Petco. read more

Tonight we visited the Downey store #01501. I want to express how very disappointed we were with the filth in the store. Upon arrival, we went to the fish area where we encountered dog feces that had been there for hours. Someone had also stepped on the feces and smeared it all over the floor and the stench was unbearable. I went to notify the girl at the register and she failed to take any action to have someone clean up the feces. I also noticed by the reptile area that there was even more dog feces and urine and someone just placed napkins over it. I have visited this store numerous times and have never encountered the store soo filthy! There were numerous employees around and not one took initiative to clean up the feces and urine. My daughters had to cover their nose to finish shopping and not vomit from the stench. I am not sure why Petco would allow dog feces and urine to sit for hours and no action is taken for shoppers to have a pleasant & clean atmosphere when shopping. Totally un-excusable! I went today to get my fish tank water tested, because unfortunately our pet fish passed away and also exchange the fish and she didn't even want to help me. She was rude and asked us to come back another day because she couldn't do the exchange, yet she is a manager. The other employee who was super nice told us to come back Thursday or Friday, so I have to keep my dead fish in a ziploc and by then the water will have changed so I guess I'll never know what happened to it. We adopted two sister hamsters here with the help of a very friendly staff member who we believe to be the manager of the reptile or fish section? I don't know...but he was super sweet! He offered to reserve them for us, showed us pics of his own pets which was super cool, and was extremely friendly!!!! Shout out to him! And when we came back he even asked how they're doing! They're now housed in a giant 60 gal terrarium with bedding and a big silent spinner hamster wheel. They even have a custom home and 10 inches of bedding for burrowing which they love. They never ever run around the cage or anything and they never fight because they have plenty of space and were already bonded. They'll be loving a very happy and healthy life. A while back I received a free vaccine coupon in the snail mail. I thought, "I don't think I'm going to need this." Then I received a reminder about our dog's city license being due soon - and her rabies vaccination due too. Already?! Our little ol' miss goes many places with us, but I was so happy she wasn't so nervous with the staff here. They are gentle. Kind. And very fast. All we had to do was check in at the podium during their regular hours (see their website for this as they do keep it updated or just call). Give our info. Sign a waiver. Get weighed. Brief checkup (very brief - and we weren't charged for a visitation!). Shot. Review paper work. And out the door to shop we went. Five minutes tops. I saved $19 and would go here again for vaccinations as needed. In reference to Liz E.'s review from 6/11/18 complaining with a 1-star review on EVERY single Petco in the Greater Los Angeles area: You're the reason why Yelp sucks sometimes. Also, Liz E., don't spew that crap about "Petco keeps raising their prices" when they do in-store price matching. I also come here anytime I want some Coffee Bean, it's a nice past time and I am always looking for new cat items. However lately the cat isles have been pretty sad. Today I wanted a new collar for my cat but sadly the whole wall was pretty empty. Aside from super tiny XS collars which I didn't need. Waited a month to get my dog groomed with Marlene U just so she can do this... My maltipoo got a cut at the Lakewood location a month ago and they had no complaints at all so I eventually make an appointment but at this location with Marlene U. And as soon as I walk in, she says stay and watch in case your dog doesn't let me groom her so I waited and she did amazing so she said I can go. I drive away and as soon as I get to my destination they call me to come get her because "she's throwing herself on the table". This girl assumed she was going to not let herself and then my dog was well behaved so she let me leave then waited till I left just to call me back. I can't believe I waited a month for this appointment just so she can leave my dog looking like this. I might take another step on this matter because I don't believe one person groomed her a month ago with NO ISSUES and then Marlene U. couldn't do it even though my dog was a good girl right in front of my eyes!! How does this happen? I wish she never would have touched my dog because now I can't find a groomer available and this is what my poor dog looks like. I took my dog for a grooming session on 9/18/22 and was nervous because Pomeranians have very delicate skin and coats...the groomer Payden seemed very knowledgeable and assured me they work with at least one Pomeranian a week so I trusted her and regrettably met my dog with razor burn. NEVER trusting a groomer again! Not only did she try to hide it by saying she didn't know how that happened...but being that it was his private area, one would assume they would be extra careful and pay close attention when grooming that area. My dog had a full coat covering his testes and was stripped of his protective layer in that area.. The manager Kevin helped me with a refund and a vet visit (who gave me a topical spray with ALCOHOL! Not helpful). When I asked for some dental treats for the trouble of taking two hours out of my day to drive to the vet with him, he said he was already doing me a "favor" by giving me the refund along with an ointment I requested. Bullshit! They were only taking responsibility. My dog became stressed and depressed after this experience. Please beware when choosing this location for grooming! It sudden me to write this yelp, because my dog grew up here in this environment that I thought would be their forever home to their grooming , but the fact that I have brought my dog in all year to nearby locations and other locations and not once was marked down nor is there any tracking information for Any Of My Grooming Appointment is insane . The amount of money I've invested in this store alone on just dog, grooming and supplies. It's crazy. I hate the fact that they're marketing strategy is false advertising and when you call their actual direct line, they say differently than the store does... I will no longer be bringing my dogs into any Petco... i've actually had to move my dog around multiple Petcos for the fact that I feel he was being mistreated, and he was scared to go back, but I still took my chances on bringing him because I met really good groomers that promised me otherwise, but after this interaction on the phone with the representative, I definitely will just go with my gut and stop coming here.
