I don't understand the bad reviews... Yea it's small, but the staff is amazing. I went for the "puppy playtime" per a friends recommendation. I took my 4 month puppy whom, at the time, had not been around other humans or puppies or even outside our house:.. Because it is a smaller store, there were no other puppies when we showed up for puppy playtime.. But the staff ran around the store to find puppies to join. There is a trainer overlooking the playtime who helps encourage the puppy to play and guides the owner in positive enforcement behaviors. I'm a fan.. read more

I was gifted a puppy from my uncle to continue breeding. My intentions were to buy a vaccine package/microchipping and stopped at this petco because it's the closest and convenient for me. But what an awful store. Employees barely know anything and the older ones tend to be arrogant. It's small, cramped and not very clean. I never considered buying supplies there for Gilly, it's ridiculously expensive when other places sell exactly what she needs in reasonable prices. I left the store and went to the second nearest Petco in Verona. I highly recommend that particular store, they were professional, mature and welcoming. read more

I go to this Petco to bathe my dog at their self-service dog wash. It's not a great experience. First, you have to make an appointment. Every time I've been there, there is no one else using the tubs. And yet I have to make an appointment for a place that's 40 minutes from my house and hope I don't get stuck in traffic. If I were late, I don't think it would matter, though. Also, there is no help at all. I know it's self-service (which I like, as it soothes my dog to have me bathe her instead of a stranger), but there is no one there to help you get your dog into the tub. The shampoo is watered-down cheap stuff, and the towels are paper-thin. The staff is friendly enough, but that's about it. I used to go to a privately owned dog wash when I lived in Maine, and it was great. For the same price, the guy lifted my 65-lb dog into the tub, and they had nice shampoos, aprons, towels, and everything else you needed. The guy even went around to all the tubs to make sure everything was okay. At this place, you're on your own. The only reason I come here is because I don't know where else to go. read more

I wish I could give this petco no stars. This was just their 3rd strike and I will not be giving Petcos my future business. This store never has our dogfood in stock, and the answers have been "oh we'll have it later tonight or tomorrow" or "we put in an order but havent gotten any". Some staff is nice, but the place is also always dirty. I miss NJ Pets, avoid this place. read more

The only thing this store is good for is they have the bearded dragon food that we need otherwise I would never ever come here. It's dirty and poorly laid out. There's just crap strewn about in the back as well. Their self service dog was is $5 more than Pet Valu thats literally 100 feet away from this store. If Pet Valu carried the food I needed I would never have to come here. Hint hint- pet valu step up your dragon food game. read more

I have been ordering litter from Petco for a long time now. Recently every time I open a bag, I get bugs. Three times there were slugs. Next time small moths. The last time gnats. I was told to put the bags in the freezer to kill any eggs or bugs inside. So beware. The bags they ship must be from a warehouse where they are stored for awhile. I just started fostering 2 five month old kittens and came to this store to pick up most of what I needed to start with. I've never had cats of my own (grew up with them). I was a bit overwhelmed with all the choices (food mostly). Trevor was very helpful, and even though the store was closing shortly, he spent as much time as I needed to explain which products he recommended and why--without being obtrusive. He even helped me out with a bunch of coupons that saved me a significant amount of money. The guy at checkout was extremely patient--even when it ended up going past closing time while I filled out all the coupons. Everyone at this store was great. In my experience, that level of customer service is becoming more and more scarce. Compared to what you can find online, prices are a little high, but sometimes I'd rather get something immediately rather than wait after ordering it. Also, they have a 30-day money back guarantee. I returned an open bag of litter the next day after I bought it, and they honored their 30 day guarantee with no hassle. It was refreshing to be treated like a customer again. read more

The employees are so helpful and knowledgable. Diana is amazing her knowledge of nursing puppies and kittens back to health was perfect for my situation this week. When picturing a perfect pet store/clinic I imagine A kind and helpful staff that allows me to have A nice experience, but That is not what you Get here in Petco. And Petco staff members have attitude and are the exact opposite of helpful. This may not apply to all of them but the majority of experiences I've had here are not good ones. This Petco is by far my favorite. I've gone there on various occasions and had questions on my new pets and the staff was super helpful and extreme patient with me while explaining how I should best take care of them. While they aren't always fully stocked on insects the employee that was helping me was able to tell me the best time to check back with them after they received a new shipment. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I walked into this terrible Excuse for a pet store today to buy meal worms for my chameleon. As I got to the refrigerator where the meal worms are kept I noticed the chameleons on display behind me. Two babies, one in terrible looking condition and the other dried up on the ground dead. Not only that but the snake in the exhibit next to that was also dead! I raised my chameleon from birth and did several weeks of research before I even purchased her. when I walked into petco months earlier to buy one, they recommended the exact opposite setup it actually takes to keep these animals in good, healthy, and happy condition. I purchased a male guinea pig from this place about 3 years ago. This was my first official pet. Since this was my first pet I had no clue how to take care of him. I guess I did not do enough research on taking care of a guinea pig. I bought my piggy and they were helpful with purchasing a cage, bedding,... etc. however they never included the additional information about owning a pig like they need to go to a vet to get their nails and teeth cut, they need vitamin c in order to survive, and they need vitamin e. About a week later my pig got pneumonia. I had no idea that guinea pigs could get pneumonia. This was caused from not getting enough vitamin c. The guinea pigs at this petco aren't fed vitamin c. The pigs are slowly getting sick before you get a chance to purchase them. From experience the best way to get a guinea pig is to adopt. A little after I got my first piggy from petco I adopted another male and he has been healthy ever since. My guinea pig from petco is still having health scares from having such a weak immune system. read more

I wish I could give this one a negative review. I purchased a canine Dewormer from this place and was charged $25.99. This same product is for $12 everwhere. I was surprised they would charge double the price. A rip off! I am definitely not going back again and a general advise would be to check the prices elsewhere before buying at this place read more

I think Petco is overated in general.If Wal-Mart sold animals they would give Petco a run for the money.Wal-Mart has better prices on all supplies and there stores are cleaner and brighter.Any retail store now a days is sometimes hard to find help.But the Clifton Petco is small dirty dingy and over priced. read more
