This Petco was great. I came in Thursday, 3rd of July, I found two abandoned kittens on a dirt road, I needed supplies. The ladies at the Store were absolutely great, helping with prices, friendly, it was a pleasure to shop there. I came in again for more supplies, Sunday I also have three little dogs, one taught in English and German. I use to train dogs for the police department. Also a Fire Fighter EMT. Sunday again, all employees, enthusiastic, friendly, helpful. It was a pleasure . Thank you. read more

Perhaps the girl with the drawn on eyebrows (her name starts with a G, I can't remember her full name), could benefit from some customer service classes?! Every single time I have come in there, she is rude and has an attitude. I have now stopped coming to this store, and I go to Lee's Feed or Clifton & Warrens instead. They are happy people with smiles on their faces, and they are so willing to help and answer every question. They don't act like your question is stupid or is bothersome. I am really looking forward to the new Petco opening in Placerville! Hopefully the employees will be friendly, or at least friendlier than she is at the Cameron Park store! read more

My wife and I went to buy a new guinea pig for our kids and we were helped out by Will. I will be concerned if he isnt the manager or owning his own store within the next year. Maybe ok for shopping, but NOT for GROOMING! I made an appointment, was told it would maybe take 2 hours it took more like 4. They basically buzzed her. They said she had too many mats. I know she some matting around her ears but they shaved her entire body except her ears. They were just being lazy. I've have taken her to a few other groomers and none of them were an awful as Petco. Never again! read more

I recommend their grooming staff very highly. My pup loves it there and gets monthly bath with nails trimmed and teeth cleaned.

I have been taking my schnoodle to the Cameron Park Petco for grooming for the last 3 years. We have never had a bad experience there. The groomers have always been very professional and Teddy always leaves happy and well groomed. I can tell they treat him well because he never hesitates to walk through the door for his grooming appointment. The local Cameron Park Vetco/Petco operation. I have the most mellow cat in the world. But take any cat and stuff him in a carrier,he's going to be unhappy. We had an appointment, and it was backed up. After quite some time, someone came to the cage, and we were immediately dismissed because he hissed and a note in his record about a previous incident, actually... another cat that belonged to our son. My God they have gloves and protection and are clearly afraid of cats. You have no business being in the business of giving shots, I've never seen such a lack of professionalism and clueless staff. SKIP this, pay more and go to a vet. read more

I do not recommend this place for grooming. I called for an appointment for 2 dogs and was asked to provide rabies cert for one of them, which I obtained. The second dog's appointment was cancelled by Petco Grooming due to AC being out so they rescheduled for a few weeks out. Today I took her in and was told they needed rabies cert and when they called the vet confirmed she needed her update (past due by 2 weeks). No grooming. Why didn't they ask originally? I don't keep track of the date my dogs shot is due - do you? So disappointing. She never offered an apology or offered another appointment, nothing. I will not go back. This is a small store. Nonethess their customer service skills are huge. That's what my soul yearns for these days as many employees lack that special characteristic. If you get my drift lol. I was 15 minutes late to my appointment (my fault). I called right when they opened and left a message informing them that I was going to be 15 minutes late and to please call me if that was not going to work since I am driving an hour and a half to get to this Petco. No call back so I drive to the appointment. I wait outside the grooming room for another 10 minutes where she finally tells me they are short staffed because someone didn't come in to work and they can't see me anymore. So now I've lost 4 hours of my life and $20 in gas. The groomer showed no empathy and offered no compensation. The least they could have done is return my call and tell me they couldn't see me anymore before I drove an hour and a half. This place is understaffed and not good at providing sufficient customer service. read more

Re: Grooming department. I was informed my mini golden doodle had "complete mats on his ears and tail" and needed to be taken to a veterinarian before he could be groomed. He literally had a less than a pea sized mat behind ONE ear, and an even smaller mat on his fluffy tail. He had just had a vet appt 4 days prior - no 'complete matting' noted. Not sure if the groomer was inexperienced, under-confident, or just didn't want to work? We easily cut the "huge" mats off with regular scissors when I got him home (not even close to the skin). Three groomers were on site, and no one appeared to be working. The reception area was not clean - fluffs of fur floating about and lots of dust. Disappointing experience. But, the store itself seemed well-stocked and clean. read more

The other day we went in to buy dog food and some fish for our new tank . When we mentioned to the older clerk that we were interested in getting some fish, she seemed super frustrated/irritated and said she'd have to get someone from the back to help with a scowl on her face. . We then went to the fish area where a large plastic bag of dying and dead fish were floating on top of one display tank. Upon telling the gal we changed our mind her attitude seemed irritated again. We bought the dog food but most likely we will not be back. A-shame one employee can effect business. Customer service training is needed as well as more pet caregivers. read more

Low value at a cost. While the gal Alicia was nice, she didn't have a great deal of knowledge. Also we only learned about 6 commands in 6 weeks. Ware of time. Each hour we learned the commands and then folks just sat around telling dog stories. I though, "What am I paying for? I'm not here to hear about your story." I do not recommend the grooming department. I took my husky dog in for a deshedding treatment (which is extra cost) and it took 3 hours for the appointment and my dog STILL had over half of his undercoat that needed to be deshedded. It's like they she gave up halfway through the process and didn't even fully dry my dog. He was shedding terribly after the appointment and I still left her a generous tip despite the horrible grooming job. Nails weren't trimmed properly, paws weren't cleaned up, and he smelled like wet dog. I decided to change groomers and I'm SO THANKFUL I did. I now go to Krystal at Little Angel grooming in Diamond springs and she did a FANTASTIC job! Appointment took 2 hours on the dot and she exceeded my expectations! A week later and he still smells immaculate and his coat is completely deshedded and super soft! Don't waste your time going to petco's grooming department. Just save yourself the time and money and take your business elsewhere. read more

Recently finished going through the trainer Alicia's dog level 1 training and feel the need to share. Since I cannot respond to Scotty H. Directly you all get to read my long winded response. We were in the same class together and I feel sad that some people seem to have not had a good experience. I am pretty sure that we learned at least 5 things in the first week, not 6 in things in the entirety of the course. Sometimes though I do understand missing helpful information about commands when one is either not paying attention or wandering around the store. That is all i have to say on that topic. My dog Beacon had been doing fabulously since we finished that course and is now working on his level 2 certification and he is well on his way to being AKC certified if things keep going as smoothly as they have been! Please do not let the uneducated viewpoint of one patron disuade you from seeking education for yourself and your pets at this store. Alicia is wonderful with the pooches and if you are into aquariums you should find time to talk to Lawrence who is a wealth of knowledge in that field. read more

This review has been a long time coming so let's get right to it. I would NOT recommend anyone take their dog here to get groomed. We had a horrible experience with our last grooming appointment here, and felt the need to let others know about it due to our dog still showing the after effects from this one trip. Our dog previously had no issues with any groomers or various Petsmarts. We even had 1 previous appointment at this location which went fine. On the last appointment however, after coming out of the back room, our dog started displaying very odd behavior. We have a large, confident German Shepherd that started acting extremely jumpy and rushing to us and pulling towards the door. He had never displayed this kind of behavior coming out of any type of grooming appointment before. The groomer we left him with, Sharone, said he was a handful and was barking and biting the cage he was in. We were shocked since we have never gotten anything but rave reviews from other groomers about how sweet a dog he is, and how he's a big teddy bear (their words). Also, our dogs temperament is such that he doesn't bark or react unless there's a good reason, even if other dogs are barking right up to his ear. He also has never so much as gnawed a little bit on his leash. Coming home, our boy displayed anxiety and depression and just wasn't acting like his normal self at all. Overnight, he had a massive amount of diarrhea (on the rug!) which has never happened in his 8 years. He has never had an accident. Over the next few days, he was still jumpy and acting so strangely and continued to have diarrhea, so we decided to make a call to Petco. My biggest source of continued outrage was how the manager handled the whole situation. And by that, I mean he didn't handle it at all. There was no response other than silence or "ok." I wasn't accusatory in the least and politely inquired about whether they had any feedback for Sharone before. This poor excuse for a manager had absolutely nothing to say. I feel like I wasn't speaking to a manager at all and actually to one of Sharone's friends pretending to be one. Our dog has since recovered (it took a couple weeks for him to get back to normal) but now tries to jump over the gate at the groomers and struggles with them initially. He's ok after some calming and he still gets rave reviews afterwards. Needless to say, the experience with the individual groomer as well as the manager's complete lack of interest in the whole situation, has made us never come back to this location, even for purchases. We will never get our dog groomed here again and suggest you don't either. read more

Being a first time dog owner, I had a lot of questions about some of his behaviors and she was able to give me great insight. She also answered several questions I had around training. After arriving at the store I was greeted by another associated who directed me to Lawrence who showed me the parrot. He was honest, upfront and cared about making are this parrot was right for me. So I hate to write bad reviews but really sad with the grooming here. This was my second try to let them redeem themselves and it was another fail. First time I took my little female Aussie here, I was told she would be done in about 2 hours and I would receive a call to pick her up. So I received a call 2.5hours after I dropped her off letting me know they could not groom her because she did not like the drier, but gave me the option to leave her over night to air dry in the kennel as they didn't have any other way to dry her. So I grabbed some towels and went and picked her up. They didn't charge me and said if they had known it was her first time they would have approached it differently. I totally get it she is kind of a butt when it comes to nail trimming and what dog does like noisy machines, I use to do it all at home but it's been a little harder since having a brand new baby and I still want to keep my girl in top shape. So I gave it another shot tonight. Dropped her off at 2:30 with towels in tow, just in case. The lady was super nice, I told her what happen last time and she said "no worries, we will take great care of here and call you when she is done." So 5pm rolls around and no call?! And I thought back to the time before, it had taken them 2.5 hours just to bath her so maybe it just takes this long. 5:30 I check my phone no missed calls? So I call them, sit on the transfer hold thing for 5 minutes then it goes to VM. This happen 4 times. It's now 6:30 I know they close at 7 so I jump in my car and drive there, go to the grooming room and find my dogs receipt on the counter. A cashier from the front comes in a few minutes later and asks if I was here to pick up, I told her yes and she informs me the grooming section closed at 5. WTF?! No one called me! I called them multiple times and nothing. I asked the lady who again was very nice, why I was not contacted. She said one of the girl said she called you, I ask what number she called. My number was correct but No call, my poor dog sat all alone in a tiny cage for an hour and a half because of this. It just makes me mad no one even bothered, sad with they lack of compassion for my poor girl who has never been caged to be left like that. Her groom was ok, still has a few knots but I brushed them out. So there that. read more

This is probably the worst Petco I have ever been to.The employees are not friendly, do not greet you, and make it awkward when you check out. The woman who checked me out today had a scowl on her face and seemed to really hate her job. There was such awkward silence. This store also has a poor selection of products and I really only go here if I absolutely need something since it is so close to my house. It seems that other people feel this way too since the store never has more than a few customers in it. If you have the time I would recommend going to a PetSmart or Petco down the street or even to Lee's Feed in Shingle Springs where you have a better experience! read more

Well now I can say I've found my dogs new groomer she does a great job and shows my pup extra love and is very attentive and listens to exactly how I want his hair. I have adopted MULTIPLE pets from this petco in particular and ALL of them have died within a month of me having them. I am an experienced pet owner with all of the animals I had adopted from there. The first one was a rat and she died in my hands on Christmas Eve, she had a full bowl of food and water and I have no doubt she was sick from the time I took her home. The second two were two fish who were getting fed everyday and had a very clean and large tank. Both died about three weeks after me having them for no apparent reason. The most recent was a baby ball python. She had been refusing to eat since I brought her home and even though she was very loving and everything she was not as active as a baby ball python should've been. She took her last breath in my hands last night while I was frantically hoping that maybe getting her really warm would save her. Despite the vet telling me to use heat she passed away around 10pm last night. I have never had this problem with any other store, only petco. They treat their pets like they're products and not living animals. They would not refund me anything other than store credit, and if I were to take the store credit I would not have been able to burry my snake at home despite the fact that she died in my arms. They said all I can do at this point is go through my bank. They said they would need to keep her to figure out what happened but I know they do not do anything of the sort since I know this has been ongoing for a very long time and the problem has never changed. I am so irritated and mad that my snake passed away. I don't care about the money, I care about solving the problem. read more

The staff there at the Petco on Palmer Drive are very friendly their oriented around their products. And they seem to have everything in stock that you are looking for. Also the trainer who helps train dogs is very well experienced in this matter. Because we have a Australian Shepherd mix breed Red Merle that is still a pup and now he's learning to do his basic commands. I am very proud and very satisfied with their service because his dog now it's starting to be more under control compared to what he was when we got him. read more

This place is an ABSOLUTE JOKE! I really try to avoid going here is at all possible, but sometimes I just want to run in and out for cat food and it is on my way home. So my visit today, not only are the limited brands and variety of brands a joke, the employees are USELESS. If they are not standing around gabbing with each other while people wait to be helped, today topped the cake. 8 people in line to check out, and one older woman at check stand checking people out. The other check stand, yes a gal was there holding a dog and taking selfies of herself. REALLY. Finally over the intercom management called for back up register help. ONLY then did the girl taking selfies of herself say " I can help you here". Without putting down the dog she proceeded to attempt to ring me up. BUT because she could not put down the dog, I had to hand her the items to scan.... and I had to turn them so she could use her wand. I made a comment.... I said " this place is a joke" and she said "what"... I said does anyone that work her care that customers want to be helped? She replied with, I am sorry we like to have fun. WOW! This will be the very last time I go to this store. Down to Folsom I go. And mark my words, they keep continuing to do business this way, they will be closed in short order! read more

Been coming here since AUG 2016 with our new rescue MrSpock and we have always had TOP service. Helpful, knowledgeable, and personalized care. We're going through adult dog 1-2-CGC classes and Alicia has been fabulous with both human and dog students. MrSpock has received two baths and comes out a happy pup every time.
