I just took my two dogs to the groomer for the first time and i was completely impressed on how good the groomers are with the doggies. I have a 13 year old female Maltese and a 7 year male Maltese/shitzu. My Maltese can be really difficult at times but this time she allowed them to do the grooming and when i picked her up she was gorgeous & happy. This place is by far the only place where they can handle my Princess with love and lots of patience. I absolutely recommend them and will only use their services from now on. Dont go to Petsmart in Silverdale or Wilco in Bremerton because they dont know what they are doing and you will waste your time & $$. read more

My wife, children and I went to Petco on Saturday August 8th around 11am. We went in specifically to look at a Russian tortoise after looking over the tortoise we decided we wanted to go home and prepare an enclosure and talk to ensure we wanted to move forward. We spent the afternoon talking about the purchase then purchased what we needed got an enclosure ready and called the Bremerton location to confirm we would be heading back in to purchase the tortoise and that he was still available which he was. We also confirmed we live over 40 minutes away but would head in, when we arrived it was 7pm we were met by Bryan Mcdonald who let us know he is the inventory manger. When we let Bryan know we were there to purchase the tortoise he let us know he would not be able to sell us the tortoise as it was company policy as the manager he had to stay on the floor near the phone in case it rang and he did not have any other employee authorized to sell animals everyone else in the store was a basic employee only. My wife and I was upset and let him know we called to confirm we would be heading in and stated the time and that is the only reason we had made the trip this tortoise was also a birthday gift for my oldest son who was with us at the time. Bryan then let us know that was not his problem and he would not be able to sell us the tortoise, at this point I was upset and asked if he could make an exception this time due to the circumstance as I was sure it wouldn't take long to step into the back area to grab it then come back out to the phone which had not rung once. Bryan refused again but this time stated he actually did not have authority to sell animals either only the store manager could who was not in. That didn't make sense to my wife and I since we had almost bought it this morning from someone who was not a manager, when we told Bryan this he then back tracked and instead stated he was unhappy with his job and they recently went through a restructure and he was really not able to help us because he just had to much inventory to do and could not spare the time. I became upset but was polite and never cussed or said anything rude, I stated I was sorry he felt that way but we are customers and it was not appropriate for him to refuse to sell us what we came in for because he could not spare what I imagine would take no more than 10 minutes. He again stated he did not care, I let him know at this point I would like his name and would be calling in to make a complaint which he replied please do. I walked out of the building with my wife and son and put my son in the car who was now crying as he is 6 and didn't understand why we weren't getting the tortoise. My wife was upset and decided to go back into the store one last time I stayed in the car as I felt it was not worth the time and he would clearly not budge. My wife again asked if he could just make the 10 minutes of time we would be quick and on our way Byran told my wife he has the right to refuse sale and stands by his decision as he has to much inventory to do and had to feed birds later this evening so he would not assist her. He went on to tell my wife due to the restructure of the company he is to busy and doesn't have time for his job to be done, he also went on to share petco did not supply food for the pets any longer so he has to steal food from the inventory to ensure the pets are properly fed which seems like a very odd and unprofessional thing to share with a customer. I have never wrote a review in my life and I am not one to complain ever if I order food and it is wrong I typically accept everyone is human and errors happen and move on. Bryan however was one of the rudest and most unprofessional people I have ever interacted with in any capacity. He was very combative and seemed to enjoy being rude even telling my wife when she went back in our son crying was not his problem. I found it extremely unprofessional how he bounced from one lie to another with no shame. We did complete the purchase the next day with the AM who was incredible however. read more

This petco has friendly and knowledgeable staff! I mainly go to petco for the grooming, Usually sticking to the same groomer. Upon my last visit my dog had a terrible cut. I believe The groomer I booked with was not available when I arrived. Her legs looked like they were not cut and uneven and her nails were cut uneven as well. If you plan on booking here because it's cheap, make sure to book with Terra to get the best service and experience. read more

I have been coming to the Bremerton location for more than a year now. About seven months ago, I believe I took my dog in for her regular grooming, they had a new groomer there named Rain that cut my dogs hair. I was in love, and she did exactly what I asked her to do. I decided that Rain would be my groomer. Sadly, after that appointment, I was never satisfied again. Every time I took her in for some reason she kept cutting her hair shorter. I hate to complain, but I had told her a couple times that I didn't want it too short, but every time I picked her up from her appts she looked bald. I don't like to hurt peoples feelings so I told myself next time I come in I'm definitely going to have a talk with her about it.... Today I had an appointment at 8 AM. If I ever have an appointment this early I usually wait by the front door since the actual store doesn't open till 9, but usually the person lets me come in and wait for my groomer to get there. At 7:50 A.M I waited outside, a lady (May) had open the door and said rudely "the groomers aren't here yet."I then told her that I had an appt at 8 AM and she continued to tell me that they weren't there. I let her know that I usually come a little early and she said".well unfortunately they aren't here yet" again, in a rudely manner. She seemed very annoyed by me or maybe mad that I was 10 min early and was waiting outside.? I mean I thought getting there earlier would be better? Maybe I'm wrong.? I let Rain know that I didn't want her hair short. She addressed it was cut the same length everytime I came in and it probably looks different because she no longer has her puppy fur.I understood and told her is it OK if she just keeps the length a little longer and she agreed. I went to get pixie 1hr20min later.and my poor pixie was SHAVED!!!!!! She had bald spots and patches of hair that she had missed. Looked horrible! I planned on doing a photoshoot for her and now that is definitely not happening! Im sooooo upset at this point! THENNNN I noticed they had charged me an extra $20 in fees.! I was aware about the $5.99 charge due to material fees but they charged me 7$ twice for unknown reasons. I simply thought it was a mistake and I asked the lady upfront (may) why I was being charged an extra $14. Of course she said in a rude voice "i have no idea you'll need to ask your groomer". My blood was definitely boiling at this point. Rain was nowhere to be found so a groomer and had to give her a call. She showed up to thee register and asked if I had any problems with pixies haircut. I asked her about thee fee charge and she said it's a new charge that Petco added on. I told her I've been coming there for over a year and a half and I've never been charged it before and if I could speak to a manager or someone in charge. Apparently no one was there to help? So they then told me I can call corporate and I asked them for their number and they said I can Google it. So unprofessional....I googled it and got in touch with corporate and let them know my situation and told them that they should let their customers know what they were being charged for before they charge them especially if I've been a loyal customer for so long. They ended up talking to a manager that was on the floor and that's when I realized it was MAY that was the manager which definitely angered me because she knew of the whole situation, and did nothing about it until I had to call corporate! Like what the actually FU*K! Apparently the fee is because of her hair length and also because she is a poodle. I've always taken pixie around this length every grooming appointment and she is a toy poodle. May I add she is only 6 pounds and not much to handle....they said poodles take more time, which I understand but, they literally shaved her so I don't see what kind of time they put into it and they also did a shitty job.!!! Ahhhhh! Corporate ended up waiving the fee for me and let me know that they will definitely talk to management and let them know to advise their customers in advance about the up charge. As I'm waiting at thee register I can hear thee groomers and May gossiping about my complaint. So unprofessional...I ended up checking out with May and let her know that they should let people know before hand, and she continued to victimize herself, and I told her I wasn't mad at her or specifically blaming her. I was just saying the Petco company in general. But she didn't seem to care much. Overall, my experience at the Bremerton location was horrible! Someone definitely needs to do some thing about May though. She definitely has a stinky attitude and needs to learn how to treat her guest better. Get it together. It's not so hard to be nice to a customer. It's your job. WILL NOT COME BACK! read more

DO NOT GET YOUR DOG GROOMED HERE! I brought my Golden Retriever to be groomed here. He was improperly groomed as a puppy and as a result gets matting on his back legs. Discussed with the groomer the plan of action to shave the hair on his back legs. I went to pick up my dog and the groomer COMPLETELY SHAVED HIS LEGS, BOTTOM AND HIS ENTIRE TAIL WAS SHAVED OFF! Apparently she tried to call me, and when she got no answer she PROCEEDED TO DO IT ANYWAY! My dog looks absolutely ridiculous! This is not something I consented to and definitely not something I would have been okay with. My dog no longer has any of his top coat, meaning that his tail will NEVER BE NORMAL AGAIN! My poor dog looks absolutely stupid. read more

Petco in Bremerton grooming: I have a new dog ( adult dog from a shelter) that had rolled in seal poop. Yes! Welcome to dog world. I really tried to wash him with shampoo ( first wash) then with special deodorizing shampoo ( second wash) then vinegar and soda ( third wash) and gave up and realized I needed professional help. Yes he is a big dog but I thought the right professional could help me with a simple shampoo. So here is where I made the first mistake. I thought that going to Petco in Bremerton would be a professional groomer that could help me. I didn't need anything frou frou fancy--just a shampoo. I brought all of the paperwork for a first grooming. I noticed that the groomers were dour and not friendly but thought it was just a busy day on weekend so maybe they were stressed. They did not talk to my dog or were friendly in any way but I didn't listen to my gut and trusted that they were professionals. I was told it was going to be three hours. I was having phone issues so I made sure-three hours is when I come back to get him? Yes. I believe it was Raine who signed me in and was the most likeable of the three--which isn't saying much, but I believed that I could rely on them so I wasn't judging. It is only on retrospect that I am apalled by how horrible they were to me and my dog. I got a call two hours in to pick him up immediately because he 'went to the bathroom' in the kennel. I was immediately worried about my dog but also sympathetic to the groomers. (wrong!) I left and went immediately checked in about ten minutes after the call. A very sour Raine shoved a paper at me and told me to pay before they would get the dog. A friendly manager helped me pay (Matthew) and asked me about my experience and asked if I wanted to tip ( I did). I was getting a vague feeling that I or my dog had done something very very bad ( that is how these ridiculous women were acting) so I told him 'I don't know. It sounds like my dog acted up.' Micheal was super supportive and nice and explained the Petco program. He said "Oh that happens." and that I needed to get my dog used to grooming with multiple visits. So I turn to get my dog at the groomers counter. A young woman who I did not know was holding him in place with a slip lead. ( I walk him with a slip lead so I was surprised by how crazy he was acting in trying to get away from her-he was basically choking himself in the slip lead but she just continued to hold it up-ignoring his distress and talking horribly to me as if I were garbage. I was immediately confused. You know when someone tries hard to insult you and it takes a minute to realize that is what is happening because you are confused that this person could possibly be going out of their way to be so mean and horrible to attack you? That is what happened. I tried to calm my dog and put on his harness while this girl stood there and said " This is not the place for him." ( I am confused-busy weekend? why is this the wrong place? I asked what she meant.) "No to a groomer" ( so...my shelter dog isn't good enough to be groomed? Mind you this is not some bougie dog grooming place-it is PETCO) I really had a bad time with getting the seal smells off him so I asked, still thinking she was a professional and meant well " Should I then ask to get a groomer in a van?" " oh no" she told me "no." I asked where he shoud go. She said " I don't know. A hose in your yard with a bucket?" Yes. She said that. I realized then that not only were these people not really professionals but they were small, mean and horrible people--(WHO?? goes out of their way to insult a NEW customer who just paid over a 100$ plus tips to their business and them?) Among the ridiculous things said were that my dog was 'banned for a year' so that he could bond to me. (The most ridiculous arbitrary BS-and directly contradicting manager's advice). My dog didn't poop in their blow dry kennel because he wasn't bonded to me-?! It's probably closer to the truth that he did so connected to how they treated him. I got him from a shelter but he has never pooped in my house. The meanie younger lady continued to talk at me in this really demeaning way (I wasn't listening anymore because I wanted to get away from her as soon as possible) and finally stoped spewing her "advice??" when I said "Yeah-whatever..." because I knew she was just trying to be insulting and superior and not empathetic at all. So my advice to all is do not go here. I looked for grooming apointments and thought it was strange that I couldn't get into any place for weeks(even Petco in Gig Harbor) but could get a grooming appointment in Petco in Bremerton easily. This tells you something. But if that doesn't-it has been four days since and only today do I see my sweet goofy dog's personality coming back. I don't think he understood what they said but he knew they were treating him like a screw up dog. I wish badly that I could not ever have gone there. read more

This is getting one star only because of the other person who originally helped us. He was amazing! Super sweet, helpful, great customer service. The women who checked us out however was very discouraging. Mainly rude. How she told my sister that her Chameleon was going to die was the cherry on top. This women was so incredibly rude and sure that we would not be able to keep this animal alive that it blew my mind. We bought everything she suggested. Some items they did not have at pet I even that we needed. Petco should really consider retraining this women. read more

This location does seem to be a little bit different from others, Can't quite place my finger on what it is. They seem to have lots to choose from as far as pet products. Although they are a bit pricey for some things. The staff seems friendly and the store seems well kept (Although most of the photos on this Yelp review seem to be some kind of corporate upload and do not look like they were taken at the particular store). Lots of Dog Food to choose from, some very expensive down to some that aren't that bad and are still a step up from. We'll say, "Ol Roy" As far as Dog food, most important things I've found is to look for products labeled "complete and balanced," indicating that they meet the nutritional requirements of cats and dogs listed by the Association of American Feed Control Officials. This organization, in conjunction with the Food and Drug Administration, state officials and the animal feed industry, develops model regulations for pet foods, which are voluntary unless encoded in state laws. So I guess I don't mind paying a bit more since we do tend to care for our dogs and want them to be healthy. I think all pet foods are made from the byproducts of human food production, No matter what the package says, your dog is not getting whole chicken breasts, but what remains after the breasts have been removed for human food. Just my opinion. The grooming location staff here I also noticed seem to be exceptionally helpful. read more

the groomer was completely rude, had an attitude and was mad she had to brush out my husky's coat. she complained before and after to me, saying that he was "way too furry" and that I needed to come every 6 weeks to get him groomed otherwise I'm not taking good care of him and it's bad for his health because he's not getting enough "air circulation". i explained that I take him 2 times a year when he blows his coat and keep up with brushing in between and he's never had any issues. I take my dog to the dog park everyday, brush him everyday, take him once every other month to the vet for check~ups and I explained to the groomer that the vet has never said I needed to get him groomed more often and her response was "well they aren't groomers so they wouldn't know- we are" in a very rude way. My husband and I came in and wanted to spend about 200.00 in the store for fish. We were ignored by Bug 3 times while she helped other people that were there after we came. We'd encountered her the day before asking to buy but told they close fish area at 6pm. When returning she ignored us and then when we asked her for help she seemed disgusted with us and told us we would have to have a setup for 3 weeks and recommended we get other fish we didn't want. We felt discriminated against. Disgusted and upset. So we went to another pet store and everything bug told us they pretty much said was a lie without telling them this is what we were told. Told we had to have a bigger tank set up for three weeks and eat way more which was absolutely hog wash. We knew small fish in that size tank overcrowded looked suspicious for that statement. Shannon did a great job grooming my Pixie. It is just exactly what I had wanted .

Miss Shannon is wonderful with our cat when we bring her in for nail clipping. It's very obvious that Miss Shannon loves animals.

Pros: location (only pet store in Bremerton), polite staff, comparable prices (with Petco Perks card), good selection of standard pet store items. Cons: location (Wheaton Way corridor is dying slowly and painfully), cleanliness (always smells kind of musty), and lack of staff knowledge of products (I asked about hypo-allergenic food and instead of an answer spent fifteen minutes rejecting suggestions of the associate because she had no idea what was in the different kibble). I'll continue to shop here for my cat, but I just don't have confidence that they have the expertise to assist with my dog's needs. read more

With a corporate store like PetCo, they're all going to be very much the same. There may be a little more catering to demographics based on the area but that's really it. It's all about employees and services. I have to say that this location has some really great employees. We bought a puppy and headed straight to PetCo to purchase basically all his necessities since this is our first family pet. I dodged getting one for over 7 years but finally I caved. What can I say. We walk in with our new puppy and right away we were helped. It might have had something to do with the adorable pup but still. Ha! They set us up with a new pet booklet full of coupons. Set us up with a pals reward account and showed us around and suggested products and necessities when asked. We basically bought everything he needed right then and there. We spent about $600 and saved hundreds between coupons and hitting a few good sales. We also racked up a good amount of pals rewards (free money to spend at their store.) I am so grateful that we chose to go here. We haven't used their grooming services other than nail clipping since our dogs coat is low maintenance. I've always been able to walk right in for a nail clip and usually walk out within 5 mins. The dog trainer here is a real gem as well. I have not been able to sign up for classes with our crazy schedules but I know she'd be well worth it. She has always offered advice and visits with our pup when he's in tow. We also attended puppy play time (free on Saturday and Sunday) and that was a great experience all around. I don't go into store much anymore since I have his food on a repeat delivery service (really convenient.) but when I do go in for nail trims or just needing an extra bottle of cleaning spray, everyone knows him by name and is genuinely nice to us both. read more

We have a 16-week-old puppy we've been taking here for about 4 weeks for their free puppy play sessions on the weekends. Great concept: 30-minute sessions for puppies under 6 months of age to learn appropriate play and to socialize with lots of other dogs and learn good bite inhibition. Unfortunately, the trainer (Betsy) who oversees these sessions doesn't seem to understand the purpose of them. Our puppy has been progressively getting better about being calmer during play because we've asked the trainer to interrupt his play more often to have him sit and get a treat before continuing play. This is a proven and standard method used by world class trainers such as Ian Dunbar, used to teach the puppy that the owner stopping play and asking for a recall or a sit is not the end of the play session--rather, the puppy gets rewarded with play for a good sit and pause/calm moment. The trainer here began basically punishing our puppy for excited play (simple and common things like pawing or jumping, nothing inappropriate) by asking us to sit out for 10+ minutes and watch the other puppies play. She said he needed to "be calmer," but how are you supposed to teach a 16-week-old puppy to be calmer by forcing him out of the play sessions for 10 minutes or more so he can become frustrated? This isn't a class where puppies are learning obedience or walking on leash. This is a play session. You have to teach puppies impulse control in stages, progressively making the little breaks in play longer over time. You can't suddenly ask for 10 minutes plus and expect the puppy to learn anything.
