I went into Petco to pick up food for my budgies and left extremely frustrated. I asked an employee for help finding a specific type of food, and not only did he have no idea what budgies should actually be eating, but he also tried to tell me I was wrong. I've spoken with vets and done my research, so being dismissed like that was pretty unacceptable. On top of that, the food they're selling for budgies is outrageously priced and not even the right kind for proper care. It's really concerning that a pet store can't provide accurate basic information about the animals they sell. I wouldn't trust the advice here if you actually care about your pets. Me and my significant other visited for the first time January 5th 2026... everything was fine until we get to the very small reptile section.. there's only one leopard gecko and it seemed they couldn't even care enough to make sure it ate or anything... extremely malnourished.. laying deceased under it's carpet :/ I've just never seen a full grown leopard gecko in such bad shape it was so shocking I had to post it here... I've been feeling so bad for the poor guy, the worms that were in his feeding dish were still alive too so someone saw him like this and chose to not take action. beyond digusting. If I could go lower than one star I would! We took our 5 month old Shih Tzu puppy to get groomed and 30 minutes after dropping her off we got a call to come pick her up. We were told she bit the groomer. She's a puppy - they nip! They barely gave her a chance! Sent her home with a partially butchered cut that looked like they were blind folded when they tried to groom her. Absolutely horrible! She had her first bath and puppy cut at PetSmart in Avon and she did great! My daughter accidentally scheduled her next grooming appointment at PetCo in Avon by mistake. We foolishly thought it would be okay, but we were wrong! When my daughter got there to pick her up the young lady proceeded to tell her that this 5 month old Shih Tzu PUPPY is aggressive and needs therapy! Are you freaking kidding me!! Be aware out there - the Shih Tzu has replaced the big almighty Pit Bull as the most aggressive dog breed. I won't even shop at this PetCo anymore. So many other pet stores with much better employees! read more

Whether it store staff or grooming staff, everyone is friendly. Today my almost 15 year old dog went to Becca in grooming. She was really sweet to her. Got her in and out quickly so it would be easier. She was really relaxed after. Great job. Here are before and after photos. I'll definitely be using Becca and the grooming department again. I can't speak to the grooming here and it looks like some people have had some bad experiences there and that is accounting for the low stars, but to me, strictly speaking to the store, it is one of the best Petcos in the Cleveland area. It is larger than many others in the Cleveland area, and thus has more dog supplies than other ones. I have found the staff to be friendly and helpful -- when I came during COVID and found there was a shortage in the puppy food that I use for my dog, they were able to provide some valuable information about a production shortage with the brand that I use, and helped me look to confirm that they were out of stock (as their website said they had some in stock). Even though there were a lot of people in line they were able to check people out quickly. And they have glass shields up so you feel safe at checkout during this pandemic. The one downside of this location is that even though it's right by all the main shopping in Avon, it's almost behind the other stores where it's a little tucked out of the way. But when I do remember that it is back there, I try to stop by and grab a treat or a new toy for my puppy. read more

They advertised their fish for 50% off for Cyber Monday but the 2 fish that I wanted were all sold out online. So, I was at Petco and low and behold, two of the fish I wanted to order online were in stock but they would not give me the 50% off deal in store ($169.99 online - $79.99 in store regular price) the reason being is because the half off price online is the regular price in store!!!! I came home and called customer service and demanded to know how they are getting away with this and she put me on hold for five minutes and came back and offered me a $10.00 coupon. Really? Is that the best you can do???? I thought it was odd when they didn't honor the online deal because they always have in the past!!! Shame on you Petco! read more

I give every retailer the benefit of the doubt, probably too many times, as is the case with this particular Petco store. I have frequented this store many times over the years as it's the closest pet supply store to my home. However, the customer service is severely lacking to say the least. My geriatric cat has to eat novel proteins due to a chronic intestinal disease. She's extremely picky but has been (after trying Rx foods & others) finally eating a Proplan duck formula. There is a supply issue with this food; other Petco stores have graciously opened multi packs so I could buy what they had of the duck. The Avon store has not had the individual cans in months! On my last visit in, when I could not find someone to help me, I open the multi pack and started to take the duck cans. The store manager? Or stocking manager? THEN came buy and chastised me for doing this, would not let me buy the cans, and said it messes up inventory to open multi packs like that. I explained my cats issues and how I can't order or get the individual cans online or in store. With no empathy or offer of help, insisted I couldn't have them and started repacking them! That was about two weeks ago. A couple days ago I made an online order to pick up curbside. I went by yesterday to pick it up, I had a sick child in the car with me. I waited 20 minutes, called the pick-up number SIX times and each time it would be answered, I could hear the clerk at the register, and then they would hang up! Unbelievable! After 20 minutes of this, I went inside, had to wait in line and when I finally made it to the counter- it was that same manager? From two weeks ago! I told her I had called multiple times and been hung up on and all she had to say was 'well it's just the three of us and I didn't hang up on anyone and we're very busy!! Again, no customer care or service whatsoever. This store desperately needs new help and a manager that actually knows about customer service! read more

Took my 10month old Mini Goldendoodle here to get a trim. After a 10 minute conversation with the grooming specialist - we agreed that he was matted on belly and ears. My wife and I made it SUPER CLEAR to the groomer that we did not want him shaved. We agreed to shave the parts that were matted (belly and ears). The groomer made it very clear she understood, even saying she might be able to get the matts out. 3 hours later, we went to pick our puppy up. To our dismay he was completely shaven. I mean no hair anywhere on his body. His face and head were the only things that had hair. We asked her why she shaved his entire body, because we had an agreement to only shave what was needed (belly and ears). She said, 'well he looked like a clown.' That is like if you went to a salon and wanted a wanted to add some layers in your hair, but the stylist took it to herself to shave your head, based on what SHE thought was best. The groomer was just a young girl. I get it, mistakes happen. She was very apologetic. I called the store and told the-on-duty manager what happened. She agreed to refund me the full amount. Great! That is great customer service. However, when I arrived at the store to get my money back, the same manager i spoke to on the phone, was cold, short, and rude. She challenged me on why MY dog was cut the way he was. She said, "well if he was shaved, he must have been matted all over." Yes, it's he-said-she-said at this point, but I know how my dog's fur was. He was not "matted all over." My 10 month old puppy has been cut twice before this experience' I've had a dog for 17 years before this. My wife has had 2 dogs for 12 years before this. NOT ONE TIME HAS OUR DOG BEEN SHAVED DOWN TO THE SKIN. I recommend to avoid this location (Avon, Ohio) at all cost. Just 15 minutes away, in Fairview, is a PetCo (Westgate Mall). They are super friendly, kind, and considerate. If you do choose to get your dog groomed at Avon, I would recommend recording the conversation you have with the groomer, to show the manager, when she basically says you are lying. Also, they charged us $60 to shave my dog completely bald. I could have shaved my dog bald fo free, and it would have taken 5 minutes. read more

This place is pretty much like going to Giant Eagle, If you have a pup you would have to maintain their needs. Making sure that they have food and care products. Yet this time they wen above and beyond for us. In January was our greatdane, Guinness, birthday. We received a coupon for a pound of treats from the generic treat bar. So happen Guinness is in love with the duplex creams for dogs. We went to pick up a lb and of course they were out. It got closer to the time our gift was going to expire and they did not have them. We called and asked if the could extend the expiration date. The agreed and told us that they get deliveries on monday. We called and asked and low and behold they were in. The put them aside to make sure we were able to get a pound. They informed us that call and they will set a lb aside for us. Let me tell you that dog is happier than a lark. You ask if he wants a cookie and he is running to go get one. Love the way I am treated here. Walk around looking loss and someone is going to ask you if you need help. They always walk up to the pups offering treats and hugs. For the most part they hire pet lovers. Those who dont usually dont last long. read more

Usually, it takes an hour for my puppy's grooming service when I schedule an appointment. When I arrived I was told 2 hours as they were behind. I adjusted my plans accordingly. When I arrived 2 hours later, my puppy was still not finished, they indicated it would be 15 more minutes. 20 minutes later she was finished and I was not given any feedback what was done or how she behaved (she's 7months old). The grooming appeared to be what I asked for. I also included the flea/tick application and the only way it was indicated it was applied was on my receipt that I had to give to the cashier and no longer have. I am usually satisfied with the service at PetCo but I will be exploring other options in the future. read more

I had a gift card so I took my dog there to get her nails done (grind as opposed to cut). The person who helped us was nice but didn't seem to know much about dog care. I was looking for a new collar and a new poop scoop and asked her for guidance on both. She didn't know really anything about best practices for either. In terms of the nails, two of dog's nails were cracked after the service, causing her to chew on them. It didn't look like it felt very good. Upon check out, I asked to break a $20 so I could tip the groomer. The cash register attendant said she couldn't do it since I paid with a card and she needed a manager to open the drawer. She said the manager was busy and there were people behind me so I was out of luck. I understood her plight but thought it kind of rude. On their own none of these are a huge deal, but as my first visit to this store, they all equate to me not being eager to return. read more

Petco Avon's grooming service is terrible. They kept my dog for four hours which is absurd. Since they never once called to say approximately when he would be ready I called since it had been so long. Not one worker picked up the phone when I called 4-5 times. When I arrived at the store, they were disrespectful and continued taking their grand old time. Half of the groomers were standing there laughing and not working. At the beginning of the appointment, I asked for my dog to be groomed a certain way and they argued with me about how much length of hair I wanted off of my dog. WARNING. I have been customer.Things ok until I purchased a monthly Vital Care subscription- unlimited nail trims. IHad it 3 months - never been able to use it - Petco keeps changing the rules and access. Finally got appointment today. Showed up and the app wasn't working. Store manager, Lauren, was called to help. She sited all the headaches they are having with the app... and blamed it on customer use and abuse. She said I had to delete the app and try again. Her staff tried the app - no luck. Manager said that's all that can be done. Need code for service. App gives code. NOT working. I was frustrated and so was the Manager. I challenged her 'nothing I can do for you' attitude because there's always something to be done and she said "This conversation is over." Turned her back and walked away. That manager could have said, let's trim your dogs nails since you've come to the store and this is our issue not yours. It would have taken 5 minutes. Two groomers were sitting at the counter and wanted to help. This was a no brainer. But the manager decided not to make it right and instead, lose a customer. One last stick in the eye. I was told to go online and make another appointment. Seriously?! I stupidly tried. You CAN'T make an appt online for nail trim on their site!!! So for fun I tried to schedule a bath (that you can do online). NO appts available until 6/23! Today is 6/2! This is a racket. The subscription is non cancelable. I own a pair of clippers that are 15 years old and have never been sharpened. We took then apart to install a new blade but we were unable to get them completely dismantled. I stopped by the Avon Petco to ask for help and luckily Dane was there that day as well as Kenzie. Dane went right to work on disassembling the clippers. He ran into a part that had been installed wrong and then Kenzie and Dane worked together and they got the job done! I was thrilled because they spent almost an hour of their time to first disassemble the clippers,and second to install a new blade. All the while teaching me how to do this at home the next time around. Now that's what I call service above and beyond! Avon Petco is my dream pet store where they care about the customers. I have had a few issues with the Petco in recent time before last they did anal expression which I did not want done and my dog has never had it so therefore He was very irritated by it. This time my dog was injured yes they took him to the vet and the vet repaired the cut on his forearm however I do not think that Britney Schubert should be grooming animals she is the one who has done both the anal expressions and the cutting and always complains of matting even if we have just brushed him out now this time we did not brush him out prior to going because she always complains about it and does charges anyway so I didn't bother to groom him before taking him to the groomer however Britney is very unprofessional and she should not be grooming dogs or dogs with anxiety I have a Maltese he is an elderly dog he is almost 10 and he is a bit nervous when it comes to grooming so if she is not prepared to handle a dog like that she should not be grooming dogs with anxiety read more

Man these employees here don't give a crap about anything! Good job on whoever is doing the hiring! . Brought the pooches in for a nail trim and we stood by the groomers counter for at least 10 mins and no one said a word until I apparently wandered too close to the register and one girl asked if she could help me and I said we are waiting to see the groomer, she said ok and walked away. Lol. So we stood around for a few more mins and finally I asked another employee, who was stocking, if there was a groomer present and she said there was only one and she was trimming another dogs nails and we could walk around the store and she would be right with us. Well another 20mins went by and we walked up to the groomers desk and she happened to be out and asked if we were there for a nail trim and it would be about 10 mins. I said we had been there for a half hr already! She said no one had told her! Now why would no one have told her??? Oh because they could care less! Luckily took us right away. She flew through the nail trims and was done really fast, but the dogs nails were left a bit jagged. I mean thanks for getting it done I guess but the whole experience just sucked. Every time. Every time we go here its apparent that the workers here are miserable. We just took our last trip to this specific PetCo. Verana - an employee - was just short and rude to my 4 year old who I brought in to by a fish. At checkout the same girl rang us up - not once saying anything kind or polite like "thank you" or "your total is xxx". It was simply "15 dollars stick your card there". After I put my card in the chip reader she just walked away. My wife then pointed out how rude that was and asked the manager ( who was standing at the register next to us and saw the whole thing ) "are we done? Did we pay" I said "I have no idea ". The manager shrugged her shoulders. I then said " you guys have awful service here. This is ridiculous. Did you see what just happened? She was rude to us the whole time". The manager said nothing and looked away. After we left my wife went back in and asked to talk to a a manager and the same manager was pointed to by another employee. My wife complained and asked "did we pay?" The manager said "I don't know did you get a receipt?" "Nope". Listen. It's clear that the manager here doesn't care about the staff. Nightmare pet grooming experience - I literally watched the groomer yank the paws out from under my 14-year old, watching her crash down onto her arthritic hips, I ran in there but it was too late. I felt like I was caring for her by getting her nails cut so she didn't slide around on our hardwood floors, hurting her hips and she ended up with an injury where she limped in more pain for the last 2 weeks of her life, I'm crying thinking of it. I had the same young man both times and I couldn't have ask for better care of my pet if I had done it myself. She is usually not happy when we get home and I know she has been mistreated to some extent. I'm so angry right now. Went in for flea medication for my dog and had researched Advantix and other top brands but they only had the $60 packets, so I ended up going with a product called Sentry Pro. I asked the clerk if he'd heard of any complaints about it and he told me not to believe what I read on the internet. Should have been a red flag. Three hours after application, my dog was racing through the house, dragging his legs, itching. I bathed him three times and he's still going crazy. He's actually rubbing against the christmas tree (which he hasn't touched in the week it's been up) to get relief. Looked up reviews of the product and there are over 484 complaints with Consumer Affairs. All with his symptoms. Needless to say, I feel lied to and am very angry. How can they carry a product like this and expect us to trust them with anything else? read more

The staff is not very knowledgable about anything other than cats and dogs. If you have questions about aquatics or reptiles make sure you are talking to the manager of aquatics. Every time I go in there is a line with one register open. Most recently a cashier named Missy, told me that she could not look up my pals rewards without my phone number, when I told her that I always use my last name because I'm not sure what phone number it's under she got very frustrated with me and refused to even try to look me up. The proper way to handle the situation would have been to just explain that she was unsure about the procedure. My boyfriend and I own a snake and get mice from there frequently, it can sometimes take up to 20 minutes to find an associate to get them for us. If you know of a better place I recommend sticking with them. Petco is overpriced!
