I stopped in about a year ago to look at some rescue kittens up for adoption & ultimately decided it wasn't the right time for me... but left my number in case they got a litter in sometime in the future. When COVID hit earlier this year, my life slowed down and I felt like it was time to revisit Pet's General to see if any cuties were up for adoption! Funny how life happens because Pet's General beat me to it and called me as they still had my name and number and let me know when they got a small litter in! I visited the same day and they let me play with each of the kittens until I made up my mind one which one I liked best. They made sure I had all the food and supplies I need, and was sure to handle her spay for me when she got a little older free of charge, and were nothing but friendly, kind, and accommodating whenever I had questions from trimming nails to food suggestions. I've been back an handful of times since and they always ask how my little one is doing & I can tell they truly care. This is a fun local pet store! Many unique items for all types of pets. The aquarium room was quite impressive! Many supplies for aquarium fish and fish available for sale. They also have pond items for those who have outdoor ponds with fish. There also also unique items here for dogs, cats and other types of pets. As we were browsing, other customers came in to purchase items and ask questions about products. The staff seemed very knowledgeable as they were able to answer questions. We bought a few items for our pets. The staff was very helpful at the checkout. The dog and cat food selection here is good too. Plan on visiting here again next time I'm in Lakewood. read more

The single worst experience I've ever had as a customer paying for a service has been with the groomer here. Here's the whole ordeal: I had gone to groomers before and have been to groomers since and never dealt with anyone so rude and aggressive. I have a Pomeranian, he's a bit anxious and hates being groomed. When I took him to be groomed by Mariah, I explained that he is still a puppy and doesn't like being groomed and asked that she leave his fur long for more of a traditional look. She was extremely arrogant from the beginning and made it sound like she was the authority when it comes to dog grooming, acting insulted that I would dare ask her to groom him a certain way. Not much longer after I left him there I get a phone call from this groomer saying that she couldn't handle him and wanted me to come in to hold him down while she finished torturing him. I get there and his long beautiful overcoat has all been cut away, he's only half finished and completely breaking down. She says 'he's acting like I'm hurting him, but I'm not hurting him' all while he is yelping and she is tearing at the fur around his neck. It certainly looked like she was hurting him, he was terrified. I come to try and help and he's not having it, he wouldn't stop crying and then started to try and bite his torturer. So this awful, cruel witch gets angry with me and tells me that I'll just have to bring him back the next day so that she can finish. She made me pay for the entire grooming even though she did not finish and had given him a cut I didn't ask for or want. I reluctantly paid, she began demeaning me and telling me that I was a terrible dog owner and shouldn't have a pet. I was in so much shock and humiliation I didn't know what to do or say, I humbly left. When I got him home he hid from me for hours. When he finally came out I was looking him over and noticed that there was a wound on his neck where she has been ripping at his fur. I'm not sure if she cut him or just tore his fur out so aggressively that she ripped his skin open. The following day I was getting ready to take him back so that I could show her what happened to his neck. I was pretty upset that she never actually finished yet still charged me full price and had actually hurt my pet. I didn't get the chance to go back and confront her because she called and left a nasty message to cancel my appointment. Her phone message was so incredibly rude. She started off by saying "I'm calling about.... Uh, I don't even want to say his name because it's soooo exotic" and then went on about how she wouldn't be able to finish the job that she was paid to do. What kind of demeaning BS is that? My dog's name is six letters long and consists of two syllables, it felt like just another angle for this wretched witch to attack me from. If I didn't love this store and the rest of the staff so much, I would have never gone back. read more

They have a TON of aquarium stuff here and when I actually pull the trigger and get one....this place has every single aquarium need. I took my dog to see the Easter Bunny at Pets General Store in Lakewood, Ohio. This is something they do once a year at this store. They were really good with her. On the way out they gave her some homemade treats that she devoured in a few seconds. Unfortunately, I have to wait 2 weeks to get the pictures, but what's really great about this store is they don't advertise doing the pet pictures so there wasn't a long line. It took less than 10 minutes. This is the 3rd time I've brought my dog in to get her pictures taken and they always do a great job handling her. I brought my dog in to Mariah for grooming. I was really worried about him because he had recently lost his sister and this was his first ever groom without her. Mariah was so kind and greeted us very warmly, she asked me about what I wanted to do with him and we even talked about long term goals as far as getting the cut I would eventually like for him to have. My guy is also very nervous but he seemed very calm and relaxed when I left. When I saw him he looked amazing, his coat is the softest is has been in a while and she paid extra attention to his beard which I requested. My favorite pet shop! I got my first hamster here as a kid and found myself back buying a pair of dwarf hamsters for my 10 year old for Christmas. The hamsters are extremely tame and thriving. Customer service is amazing and the animals are well cared for. They also board small animals for $2 a day so families can go on vacation. How adorable is that?! read more

I was lied to. I saw that some of the Betta fish in their little containers had very green water. It looked like the staff never bothered to change it. As I was looking I was approached by one of the staff members. He asked if I needed any help. I said "I think some of your fish have fin rot. Look at this one in the top corner. His fins are deteriorating. " He looked and said "Do you know what a crowntail Betta looks like?" Yes I do. "That's what he is that's why his fins look like that." Now, I know sometimes it's hard to tell if a crowntail Betta has fin rot because of the natural look of their fins. So I looked at the fish and turned the cup around and saw that the label said "Halfmoon" Betta. Clearly he was not a crowntail and he was sick, or very stressed from the condition of the water. He could even be biting off his own fins. The staff member lied to me to avoid taking responsibility and helping the fish. What the F?! And he tried to make me second guess myself as well. I know my friends like this place but after I experienced that, I will NOT be spending my money here. Who knows what else they're lying about? I will actively share this story and let people know the bettas are being abused. Some of the staff members here are nice and share a lot of helpful information, but this seriously upset me. Most pet stores treat betta fish like this, but I didn't expect such a well rated store to be like all the others. I took the pic quickly but you can see his fins are messed up. The place excels in the knowledge of the staff. They will advise you how to set up a basic starter tank or a complex reef tank. In the corporate world that we live in, this is rare. A pet store should be a family run establishment that has many years of experience. They are professionals. The fish are well cared for and not diseased. They will stand by their products and not stick you with some busted up fish or pets. There is a huge iguana that has been in the store for years that sits by the front window.
