The grooming dept. gets one star only because it was required. 169.00 dollars later she was shaved to the skin in some places. Shaved her top knot off, her muzzle and her tail. Very ragged groom too. How can you not have an even shave? Long pieces on her ears, tail and back legs. Said she was matted. She was not matted she was dirty. I was a dog bather and know what it takes for a good groom. She didn't even smell like she had a bath. Her tail and ears will take 6 months to a year to grow back. Never ever will I step foot in a Petco again! -- at Petco - Se Albuquerque. read more

Grooming Review I am so impressed with the grooming salon at Petco. I made a super easy appointment for my dogs to get groomed from the Petco App. Wowsers! It was so easy and I got them in within a day and on Christmas Eve morning! Tatiana is the groomer that worked with my babies. I have a nervous Nelly 5 year old Jack Russell Terrier and a 14 year old black lab that has some joint issues. She got them both done and out in two hours! The price was really good considering I got them the works with a holiday package add on. They both look amazing and smell like sugar cookies. She was even able to get their nails done and they are so soft. They feel like stuffed animals. I'm so glad I tried out Petco for grooming. We will be back! Abby, was the best dog trainer. My daughter and grandson got as much out of training as my dog. She is very patient and took the time to make sure our dog was ready every step of the process or training. He is hyperactive but extremely afraid. My daughter was excited to go to class and couldn't wait to show off what our baby learned. Our puppy only liked and wasn't afraid of family until Abby. He sensed something and gave her kisses everytime. She is a true dog lover. Miss going to classes. read more

A great Petco! Here's some thoughts: - We stopped in to get our dog a treat as we are traveling. The assortment of bully sticks could be better but we found a good one anyway. - our dog started limping on the way to the store. Upon a close look, he had something in his rear paw. Nice store very neatly stocked with lots and lots of stuff! I love how the signs clearly say which animal products are in which. I am a little disappointed with the bird section though section. For as big as the store is, I expected to see a much bigger selection of toys, food, and treats for parrots. The staff is ok, functional, but it appeared most of the staff didn't seem very inviting or friendly. There was one gentleman who was stocking items and going back and forth through the store he seemed like the friendliest person there but everyone else kept to themselves and when I went to check out it appeared no more than a transaction. By that I mean all they did was scan my items and told me a total. Nothing wrong with that but least the staff on the west side location were much more friendly and they asked how my day was and sometimes about my pets. They made me feel more welcomed and one young lady in particular at that west side location told me about her experience with similar pets and recommended some items I didn't know about til then. Sadly with this store I did not have that experience which bummed me out because I really enjoyed that and I kind of miss it. Next time I may choose to visit the west side location instead. read more

Clean, variety of products, great grooming and training services! We usually get our pet food from here and have also taken our dog for training sessions. They have a great selection of products and their doggy toys are reasonably priced. The staff in their grooming department are always so nice and absolutely adore all of the dogs that come in. The first time we took our rescue in for a bath, she was so scared, but the groomers were great and made sure she was okay the entire time. We've also learned so much from Danny in regards to training our dog, including tricks! He's a great teacher and was very knowledgable. You can tell he loves animals and he was very helpful. I'd definitly recommend having him for a dog trainer. This Petco store is awesome and I love all of the services and friendly staff. Stop by and check it out! read more

I try not to come here because of the creepy employees and overpriced items. I've only ever gotten a small bag of treats and an aluminum water bowl from this store... I would honestly recommend Amazon.com over this store. They do have a large selection of dog and cat foods, that's probably a lone strength. The dog toys section never seems to have anything good enough to get, and the selection of grooming products and leashes/collars/harnesses are a joke. It also has a strong bad pet-smell in there... (I would try Clark's Pet Emporium instead.) read more

I used their grooming service once and never again. I was told it would be about an hour for a bath and nail grinding, which is reasonable. It took 2.5 hours. They were clearly over booked with too many animals and too few staff. When I finally got my dog back, I wasn't convinced that they actually even bathed her! Also, the grooming salon was dirty. I'm not expecting the place to be spotless, but someone could sweep every once in a while and wipe down counters. Overall, the price was a tad bit lower than an independent groomer but so not worth it. read more

Tatyana was amazing to my sweet girl and made sure to make her and I feel very comfortable with the service (my first time getting my dog groomed professionally) my dog is a very nervous girl and Tatyana made sure to take and spend the extra time my dog needed to make sure she wasn't overwhelmed!! My 5 1/2 month old German Shephard had his 1st spa treatment at PetCo (Lomas/Eubank) and although blow dryer made him a bit nervous, Mariah took the time to give him a brake to calm down and use the dryer kennel instead. Petco can thank their employee Rosemary for losing a good paying customer. I purchase a $68 bag of Merrick dog food...which also has a $5 discount coupon below the bags of food. The register doesn't give the discount... so I have to go back into the store wait in line and explain the situation. Rosemary acts as if i , the customer, am bothering her. It takes someone 5 min to find the coupon and admit the error. Rosemary said the coupon was old and someone forgot to remove it...but she will still give it to me. Gee thanks! How about an apology. How about acting like you appreciate your customers business. Small business dog store...here I come, and I won't mind paying a few bucks more. read more

We took our dog Max there to be groomed he had been to another groomer and had his ear cut they arranged a special time to get him groomed where you be the only dog there they handle them quietly gently and there were no incidents then I discovered the great supply of food that supplies and overall friendly service I am very pleased that this store is so close I'm getting all my pet products there now. read more

I bought 3 dozen crickets at the register for my frogs. The cashier rang me up with my other purchases and put the crickets in my bag telling me that the shipment just came in and that she had to unpack the box to get them. When I got home in Edgewood, over a dozen were dead at the bottom of the box. I called and asked for the manager, she had answered the phone and her name was Rebecca. I told her that I had bought them and what happened and she immediately apologized and told me that the next time I was in bring my receipt, tell them her name and that she ok'd a new dozen crickets free to replace the ones that died. The help was instant and kindly given and she explained that the stress of the shipment may sometimes do that and had no problem giving me new ones. So kudo's to them for being such a great place to do business with. read more

First off I had scheduled an appointment online for my dog to get a bath and a hair cut day's prior to 3:00 pm, Monday, January 19th, the day and time of the appointment. The day before the appointment, on January 18th, at 5:40 pm a staff member contacted me to reschedule the appointment. The staff member claimed that they "would not have enough time to work on the kiddo" -this place closes at 7 pm, mind you. She offered me an alternative appointment for the next day after first offering me an earlier appointment time for the same day of the appointment but at 2:00 pm... It's called a scheduled appointment for a reason. People have these things called plans that usually abide by this rule called time. It seems to me this business cannot manage time or appointments -Strike one. I decided to give Petco groomers another shot by scheduling for the upcoming Saturday -got in at 1:15, dropped the dog off. I get a phone call at 5:01 pm from a staff member who could not remember my name or my dog's name, but she did dial my number... She called to tell me, almost four hours later to come to pick up my dog because the dog had become "difficult"... Hmmm, are we not in the business of animal grooming? Isn't that your job? I am sure if it was easy people would just groom their own pets. She went on to tell me that I would not be charged for the bath or the shotty hair cut they gave my dog. They cut her body and limb hair down with a 3/8" grooming guard (very unevenly might I add - it looked atrocious) and left her head and tail full... the dog looked ridiculous. Of course, I am not going to pay for this half-done job. When I went to pick up the dog, the groomer who botched my dog's cut came out to tell me that they could try some sort of soothing or calming techniques to finish the job but that I would have to come back with the dog at a later day and time. At this point, it is now about 5:20 pm. There is still one hour and 40 minutes before the closing of business... Why didn't they call someone to cancel their appointment so that they could calm, soothe my dog, and just finish the job like they had done to me the prior Monday so that they could, perhaps, finish someone else's dog? Could it be because between 3 groomers they couldn't handle a 45 lbs. labradoodle puppy. The dog came out worse than she went into the groomer -they should be reimbursing me for what I will pay to fix their muck up. The groomer quickly pulled the "because-we-are-corporate-card" we cannot finish your dog and then passed me on to a manager -Strike two, no people skills. Among the three groomers in the grooming department, the groomer needed someone else to explain things for them. And the last nail in the coffin; I asked for the names of two of the groomers, and as I did so a young lady (groomer) who was working on a small docile dog said in the most snarky voice I've ever been talked to at any business by an employee said: "would you like my name too?". I commented on her juvenile behavior by asking if this was her first job -she must have been 17. She remarked back, "actually I am 13-and-a-half..." The manager who was standing adjacent to me at this time turned to her and advised her to be quiet. Strike 3, absolutely no professionalism. As I leashed my dog and commented to the manager on the botched work -it appeared as if they did not try. The same young lady who claimed to be thirteen-and-a-half repeatedly remarked from behind her workstation "no we didn't try and we don't care about dogs..." I left wondering about this business's employee screening methods and ability to follow through on scheduled appointments. The moral of the story is - if your dog has little or no experience being groomed, do not take your dog to these people. If a job is too difficult, they would rather quiet in the middle of the work and not charge you. After all, they are a corporate company, their employees have no qualms with letting you know that, and they don't need your business. read more

I have always had good results getting my dog groomed here but after the last time I just can't give them more business. My dog came back smelling like an entire bottle of cheap cologne was dumped on his back. It was so overpowering still two days later that I had to bathe him again at home (after paying $30+ to have it done "professionally" here.) He relentlessly tried to lick his back to get the smell off. There's no reason to do this to a dog, ESPECIALLY without asking the customer first if they want their dog to smell like the worst, cheapest cologne from a dollar store. "Okay, thanks for coming to Petco for grooming! For no extra charge would you be interested in our new treatment? We can make your dog smell like a retired alcoholic used car salesman, a washed-up gambler living in a trailer park, or a Jersey Shore guido! Your choice!" Sorry, no thank you Petco- from now on we go elsewhere. Keep your gallons of nasty scent, and lose one customer. read more

I'm sorry but I've been to this store several times and had to always wait for someone to help us. The last time I was in there I needed the insides for a 39 gal. tank that I was putting up that day. I specialized in tropical fish in Sacramento California for 6 years, but that day I just wanted someone to get me all the stuff I needed and all I wanted to do was pay for it. Needless to say I should of got the stuff myself. They had no selection of rock, I tried to ask one of the employees if that's all they had and he was helping another customer but I thought since it was a yes or no question that I wasn't invading his helping the other person. Anyway he ignored me I tried to get his help a few times when I thought he was free, but to no avail. He finally helped us about an hour later and ended up trying to sell me the higher prices items and ended up selling me the wrong pump, the undergravel filter I purchased one of the air stones didn't even work, the pump he sold me was a singular pump and I needed a double. So since that time I've been doing the best I can with what I wasn't sold and I've been pretty ticked off since the visit. I'm disabled and can't just run over there at any given time so I'm sure it's too late to try to get the right pump. My tank is the ugliest tank I have ever had. I've had at least 40 tanks in the time I've been so interested in fish. I should of been paying attention but my mind took the day off. It's going to cost me almost double to get it right. I don't think I will be going to that store anymore if it's so hard to get help and then not even the right help. read more
