My wife and I have taken our two 12-year-old dogs to American Pet Resort since we moved to New Bern…read more2 years ago for both boarding and daycare services. Though expensive, we have had nothing but good experiences keeping our dogs with them until most recently. One of our dogs, a very social and well behaved West Highland terrier, was banned from spending any time with other dogs on the 2nd day of a 7-day stay after bitting another dog. He spent 6 out of the 7 days of our trip either in the kennel or, for some reason, the hallway outside the kennel while our other dog was in the kennel--a very strange decision given that he's great with our other dog. Why not have them in the same space? Though my Westie has never shown signs of violence or aggressiveness before, I realize the need for them to be careful and protect the other dogs, but no one at American Pet Resort contacted us to tell us what had occurred. We learned after looking at the online cameras. There we saw our Westie confined to his kennel while all the other dogs, including our second dog, were playing outside. Why didn't someone from the kennel call us to let us know? That kind of proactive communication is something I expect. I was none too pleased to find out what happened only after having to make a call to find out why our Westie was left alone in his kennel during outside time. While away, I made a call suggesting the staff place my Westie and my second dog in a separate outdoor space with one another. The staff member I spoke to said they would do so, but they only did so once. Our Westie spent the next 5 days out of our 7 day trip in either in his kennel or the hallway (?) just outside of the kennel, and has been banned from outdoor play with other dogs during future visits. We will make sure that there will be no future visits.

Believe when I say neurotic! But in preparing for a trip she's over the weight limit for, (I'd rather not go) this staff has been more then understanding! Bizzy is alway happy, neat and clean, as are her toys and she's always willing to return. They matched her with with a perfect playmate which isn't easy for this 2 y/o with a lot of issues. They meet me at my car when we arrive and are well versed in handling her special issues! If it wasn't for Chocowinity Pet Resort, I wouldn't be going on this month long trip. There's no other facility around I would trust my baby to! It's all in the magic of the staff who work there!!! You all are the best!

A good friend, who lives in North Carolina (NC), recommended Chocowinity Pet Resort and Day Camp as she knows the manager, Miss Sue. I took a trip down to visit my friend and to tour the Pet Resort. The place was immaculate and very well kept. The location is off a main road, but secluded enough to not have a lot of car traffic. Compared to the kennels in PA, this place was perfect with huge runs - even for small dogs; play/common areas outside that were fenced in; staff that were so nice and accommodating, even though I was trying to book during a prime vacation time of year. I really couldn't have asked for a better place to leave my fur babies and feel that they would be safe and well looked after. They even took the time to send me pics of them while I was away - how caring is that!! So yes, I drove all the way from PA to NC to kennel my dogs with Chocowinity Pet Resort and Day Camp and would do it again in a heartbeat. It was well worth the trip for the peace of mind that my dogs were getting the best care they could while my family and I were away. Thank you again Chocowinity Pet Resort!!

Check in was efficient after an employee took them back I never got any updates while I was away. It would seem to be an easy text to assure me that they were safe and doing well. A picture or two would have been welcomed. When I asked how they did the person taking my money said "fine". That s didn't settle for me. The price charged was a lot and I couldn't afford all the extras like play time with the other dogs for $20+ per day per dog so I could see them play on a camera. I thought that would be part of boarding. Not here. It is a beautiful building and location but I won't be bringing them to this place again unless they offer more services with boarding. And I had to pay a holiday bonus charge for 5 of the days for each dog.

The dogs who are arriving and leaving do not have that panicked, manic behavior that some displayed at one kennel where I live. I can pay for an extra time outside for him after the kennel has closed for the day, and for a suite where I can watch him on a live feed. The staff is courteous and professional, the facility is clean and well kept inside and out, and although I hate leaving him anywhere, this has been the best option I have found.

MY DOG IS DEAD. I'd give them zero stars if I could…read more My 2-year-old German Shepherd went into this clinic happy and full of life. He never came home the same. Within days of surgery he was vomiting, not eating, losing weight, and fighting a severe infection. I fought for him with every vet visit and medication they gave but he DIDN'T survive. He came out sick, suffering, and fighting for survival and now HE IS GONE. What makes this unbearable is how the clinic handled it. When I begged for answers and accountability, I was met with condescension, dismissiveness, and zero compassion. My dog is dead at just two years old, and the people responsible refused to even acknowledge their role or offer any help. They tried to blame his "congenital defects" and anything else they could come up with, rather than admit their lack of competency and failure to truly look at all the facts. His care felt half-hearted, reactive, and sloppy until it was too late. When I met with the owner, Dr. Stelma, after my dog died, I was treated with arrogance and coldness. He was rude, dismissive, kept checking his watch while I was pouring out my grief, and made it painfully clear he cared more about money and his practice's image than the lives of the animals trusted to him. Ranger was my family. He slept by my side every night since he was 8 weeks old. Now I am left devastated, heartbroken, and furious. If you love your pet, DO NOT RISK THEIR LIFE HERE. I hope this shows you the risks of this place.

The vet that we were using was absolutely useless and after 3 times, we just gave up on her. A friend suggested Dr. Selma, we went and saw an immediate improvement. Dr. Selma went over Ollie from head to tail, told us what he thought might be wrong in language that we could understand, explained the tests that he was going to have to run to back up his diagnosis and when the tests backed his diagnosis up, he went over everything that we needed to do to get Ollie better. He never rushed us, got back to us quickly when we had questions (they have the best answering machine message ever) and followed trough his recuperation every step of the way. In the middle of all of this, we had to put our cat to sleep. The kindness and compassion that they showed us was amazing. The thing that I like the best about this whole practice is that everyone there is terrific; from the person that answers the phone, to the person that fills your prescriptions. At one time, I worked for a Vet in New York. He was terrific but he was no Dr. Selma!!!! We cannot recommend him enough. Ollie is doing great!!!!
