They were hard to find and tend to be adopted quickly. Colonial Capital is in my local area and they allowed me a two week trial period. At the end of the 2 weeks, the dog still seemed withdrawn and timid. Because he was already a year old and had been raised with his littermates, I was afraid he wanted a companion but I could not handle multiple dogs. I spoke with Amy at the shelter about returning him. She suggested I give him 2 more weeks. That did the trick. He is now 5 years old and happy being the top (only) dog in the family. Like one other commenter, I am a northerner and over 66, but, unlike her, I was welcomed with open arms. The many dedicated volunteers there had become like a second family. They are great people and this is a great organization.

I informed her that it's okay if she can't dry him as he has never liked the blow dryer. She informed me that they would shave him "dirty" and then give him a bath to which I said what ever is easier for y'all. She calls us an hour later to pick up my dog. His haircut is so bad. He's got insane streaks, his legs, his tail, and his head are not shaved. We were charged 89$ for my dog to look like Frankenstein. I have taken my dog there for about 8 years on and off , however this last year things have really changed with this salon. He used to have no issue having his nails cut and after going to this salon he will not even let us touch his feet ( which everyone knows what that means). However until today the salon has never returned him to me looking crazy or even wet for that matter. It was not until he was groomed by Kristina that things really escalated. The manager of the store did refund me for the haircut, which I appreciate, but morally I feel I have to leave this review. I think we all have to deal with difficult things at work, but most of us manage to still be a decent person and act with kindness. Especially when you are dealing with a senior animal). I wouldn't trust Kristina to shave a strangers leg let alone touch my dog again. My dog is high strung and loud, not aggressive what so ever, he does not like the blow dryer. I know this and always tell them it's okay if you cannot dry him completely , I would rather him be damp than stressed out. He is 9 years old and has hip dysplasia in one hip, all I ask is that his hair be cut for the summer. I'm disappointed but honestly I appreciate this experience because who knows what happens behind closed doors.

I've abandoned Farmer's Dog for Dr. Marty's now after speaking with Sherry earlier this week. Other than our vet Doc Martin, I go to Sherry and Shannon. You have to look a little closer now because of the massive storage building that blocks their signage but it is well worth finding these special, community-oriented, and animal health, foster, and adoption advocates.
