The Country Barn - Homemade milk & cheese

We have been here several times over the last couple years. Another place I thought I already…read morereviewed. Heard about this place from our son's classmate. When we finally made it here, we were not disappointed. We ordered sandwiches from the kitchen inside while we shopped for sourdough bread and other baked goods. The bread is good. They also make several other baked goods. We like the cinnamon loaf. Very good! The process for ordering sandwiches is pretty simple. There's pencils to fill how the sandwich ordering form. Once you choose what you want on the sandwich you hand it to one of the employees or they have a box you place it in. They call your name when it's ready. This place does get busy at times. While you're waiting you can grab some chips and a drink from the cooler. The store has a lot to look through. There's all kinds of spices, seasonings, and other bakery needs. The store is relatively cramped inside when it's busy, but manageable to move around. It's been there a while so it does have a slight rustic look and feel to it. There's a covered porch in the front with tables and chairs to enjoy your sandwich. We have enjoyed our many visits here and will continue to stop in. Recommend giving this place a try.

Thig's Bbq House & Catering - Brisket with baked beans and sweet potato fries

This review is long overdue…read more Can't believe I haven't reviewed this restaurant yet. My experience with Thig's BBQ goes back to around 1999. I was stationed at Courthouse Bay and it was the first time I experienced Carolina whole hog bbq. Dan worked on base, but also provided the instructor staff with Carolina bbq and all the fixins'. I was hooked! After years of serving all over the place, I was happy to find out he opened his own place, Thig's BBQ House & catering. The family and I ate here a few times trying everything they had. Every time we come here, we know the food, service, and atmosphere is great. We enjoyed it so much, Thig's catered my retirement. All communication was through the daughter, who I believe handles the catering. I gave her the back story which she appreciated. She delivered the catering on time and set it all up. There was so much food! Brisket, pork, fried chicken, vegetables, and tea. Everyone raved about the food! I think we ordered too much, but it was worth it. We ate leftovers for as long as we could. I'm definitely impartial to Thig's for Carolina BBQ. I'll continue to enjoy this place as long as I can. Highly recommend giving Thig's a try!

Another review I've already written and yelp disappeared it…read more So here we go again. Clean somewhat sparse decor lacks personality, almost to the point of feeling sterile. I hope they spruce the place up over time. Like many places post-COVID they have things on their website menu they no longer sell. My wife made a point of praising the hushpuppies, some BBQ joints are not worth eating but these were good. I was hoping for spare ribs, Kansa City style ribs or beef ribs but they don't do those anymore. The beans were good and worth eating, the brisket was moist and not too smoky. We generally liked everything. One thing for oaths with sensitive hearing, because there are few decorations and hard walls and floors the room is kind of loud and echoey. I hope they make some effort to soften the sound, hang some soft decorations or do something to make the sound more appealing instead of the sound of an empty warehouse.

"I'm going up the country Baby, don't you wanna go?…read moreI'm going where the water tastes like wine We can jump in the water Stay drunk all the time" (Country Joe McDonald and the Fish) I've been to weddings in quite a few cool places. On the beach in New Hampshire, way up high on a patio at the United Nations in Manhattan, on the grounds of the Jimmy Carter Library near Atlanta, in an Asian restaurant in Brooklyn, and at some beautiful Long Island waterfront venues. Well, we just went to another gorgeous wedding, located on over 300 acres of woodland trails and pastures in the country at a beautiful venue known as the English Country Barn of the Carolinas. The complex has indoor and outdoor spaces for any time of the year. The wedding ceremony was on a beautiful day, so the outdoor chapel was a perfect and scenic setting for the ceremony. The cocktail reception, bar, and appetizers were outdoors, where we had a great view of the horses roaming in their fenced area. When we moved inside for dinner, we saw a beautiful two-level reception hall with 30-foot-high ceilings. The bar, gift, and dessert tables were set up here. A second room accommodated the buffet dinner, a caricaturist, and a photo booth. The grounds are beautiful, and while we were walking around, we saw a gazebo, wooden bridge, and horse barns. I also learned that the property has overnight accommodations and gardens. The staff we interacted with was fantastic, and we loved every minute of our friend's wedding at the English Country Barn of the Carolinas.

In my many trips to the AB area, I've driven by the old Mosquito often but it's always, always,…read morealways packed no matter the time of year. New plan for this trip. Step one should be the same for everyone. Get there when they open at 4:45 because damn does this place get busy quick even on weekdays. When I rolled into the parking lot at 4:40, I had probably 15-20 already at the door. Step two, if you get there at open, consider bar seating. Clam Chowder - Scalloped Scallops - Key Lime Pie I'll just keep it at this. Is anything I ordered going to reinvent the culinary wheel? No, and one could argue that the only negative here is that most everything is on the pricey side. But with that said, everything was extremely consistent, everything was brought out perfectly timed, my cup never runnethed (sure, it's a word) empty and the bar staff are all excellent conversationalists. Also one big upside, the ambiance. The bar area is kept dark as it should be in any bar type situation and the music selection was mostly a fantastic mix of classic R&B and Blues. Can't tell you the last time I enjoyed seafood while listening to John Lee Hooker (well, I can and it would be never which is why my mind was sort of blown). Groaney, groan, groan on some of the pricing but the overall situation here is worth the five stars. I get the hype and I get why it's always busy. Also, kudos to the owner who was up front and making sure to thank every single person that walked by/out the door. Very classy.

Settled on the fried pickles instead of buzz-buzz shrimp they were out of. They were good and the sauce was awesome. I had the mixed seafood grill which was excellent.
