This is literally the place you need to go. My son has been begging us for a snake for years, and as he is pretty young, we didn't want to just dive in with it. He's in sixth grade now, and his little sister's in third grade. We figured they're probably old enough now to be able to take care of a reptile. I had seen this place advertised previously and we happen to be down in Ventura so we went and checked it out. We talked with who I would imagine is the owner, an extremely knowledgeable person who also happens to be friendly and helpful. He gave us what I would call almost too much information as we are brand new two the whole reptile thing, there's so much to learn and there's so much knowledge he wanted to impart on us The kids are interested in a baby snake of some kind, and we were lucky enough that they had a fair amount of young snakes in the shop of all kinds of different exotic varieties. We ended up taking a small python home in our kids are over the moon with it. It's a beautiful creature and they had a lot of of the items that we needed in stock there to be able to set up our terrarium correctly. I would highly recommend the shop, as everybody we spoke to there was very kind, professional, and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back

Also, I have been calling them for the last few days to see if they have what I need and they NEVER answer the phone. Very frustrating and inconvenient.

PRO-TIP: Slight discount if you pay with cash!…read more A MUST for any reptile or exotics keeper in the area, especially if you own lizards! I visited here before, years ago, but this was before I kept lizards myself, and now coming back, I was delightfully surprised to see that they have upgraded immensely and modernized. Everything is super clean and sleek looking! Honestly very refreshing since, no offense, many other reptile stores are a bit more aged and cluttered. The set up of the enclosures are a delight to look at! Alright, I don't want to be a hater to the other reptile shops, but AT MOST, the fanciest thing you're going to see is MAYBE a uromastyx, but I was SO EXCITED to see the reptiles that they had here. Like, yes they have bearded dragons and geckos too, but it's not PILES of them and they have much fancier morphs. That black red monster beardie that they have is gorgeous. However, I got to see full grown, inquisitive ackie monitors, an Asian water monitor, Leachies that aren't over $1k, various tree monitors, a Baron's Racer, lovely fire skinks, Kimberly rock monitors, a Gidgee skink (NFS), etc. I have seen some of these ONLY at zoos, reptile shows, or the East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley (the oldest reptile store in the nation). So for the Basking Spot to have these species is a huge testament to the shop's dedication to the craft and hobby. I got my questions answered and I can see that the community loves shopping here. Proper husbandry and breeding practices (as you can see from the fire skinks they have, not the easiest to breed) and responsible ownership, we love to see it! ALSO, it is almost impossible for me to find wax worms, let alone silk worms in person as feeders for my lizards. Sometimes my local pet store has the wax worms and it's a hit and miss if I go to IE and can find silk worms. I GOT BOTH HERE! And the worker was nice enough to carefully pick them out so they weren't pupated yet, thank you! The shop is a bit farther for me, but I will come back 100%!!

Genuinely the best reptile spot you can find. He has everything from standard ball pythons to…read moreBarons Racers. He has also such a great selection of rare and sought after lizards. Some of the most beautiful tree monitors you've ever seen in your life. Brandon is the shop owner and truly loves reptiles and the hobby as a whole. Every time I have a question about one of the reptiles I bought from him I can call the shop and he'll help. I don't have high enough praise for this place. If you're looking for something simple or one of a kind, this is the place.

I had been to a 'Reptile Farm' before, decades ago…read morein Texas, which was pretty much like the reptile house in a zoo only much smaller and dirtier. But as "Everything is Bigger in Texas", of course the Texas farm had a big muddy Alligator pit. So who knew what the "Reptile Factory - High Desert" would offer up. And from the look of the outside, which was small and tucked away in a Mojave Desert strip mall, it didn't look like much. But I was SO WRONG. - 'Reptile Factory - High Desert', goes deep, and it's not a zoo or a reptile farm, it is a Specialty Pet Store. And the more looked around and spoke with the staff, the better this place became. Reptile Factory, LLC. And its employees reserve the right to refuse an animal sale to anybody if we feel it is not in the animals best interest. My two hours at 'Reptile Factory' were great, but I wondered, who would buy all of the animals and enclosures to bring home except for scientists, collectors, and young kids who like to feed mice to snakes. But they told me here that many of their customers use these see-thru tanks, filled with beautiful object, colors, and exotic animals, as a point of design and beauty in their homes. I was directed to a site where I could see photos. And I'll tell you, those pictures blew me away. I've posted some of these photos (courtesy of photographers) of the Personal Computer Stations & Gaming Rooms at the home of some customers who bought everything they needed in order to transform these spaces into jungle-like (or desert-like) environments filled with living creatures. And they got all of their display cases, terrarium installations, supplies, and animals at "Reptile Factory". I thought these rooms looked so amazing that I began to dream about doing this in my own home, even if it meant having a house full of Lizards, Turtles, and Snakes. Very Cool Suff.
