I took my cat to Pet Medical Services after she suddenly stopped eating. Dr. Orquidea Loyola misdiagnosed her with feline hemotropic mycoplasmosis and prescribed a three-week course of antibiotics, which cost me $295 for the appointment and medication. The antibiotics made my cat's condition 10 times worse. Looking back, what kind of specialist prescribes antibiotics to a cat that hasn't eaten for over a day? Every time I gave her the so-called "medicine," she vomited and couldn't even digest the small amount of food she managed to eat. By the fourth day, I was terrified for my cat's life and rushed her to the emergency room - another $870. There, she received a subcutaneous infusion of fluids, which instantly improved her condition. That same evening, her appetite returned. Today, I received the detailed lab results ordered by the ER - the Mycoplasma test came back negative. Had I followed through with Dr. Loyola's prescription, my cat would likely be dead before finishing the antibiotics. I wouldn't trust this clinic with any animal's life. read more

We looked around for a good veterinarian and also prices. Wow we are amazed how amazing people there are. They made efforts to communicate with us in sign language because we are deaf. They were very helpful and giving us plenty information how we help our cat who has anxiety issues. We won't go somewhere else. We are sticking with this amazing veterinarian!!! read more

This used to be owned by different vets, and they were excellent. The new ownership has really let the place fall apart. I visited there with my cat recently, who needed dental work. The first thing I noticed upon entering the exam room was that it was filthy. There was pet hair and grime all over the examination table. My cat--like almost any cat--was uncomfortable and showed that discomfort by growling and hissing at the staff. The vet tech was scared of her and made me pull back my cat's lips so he could look at them from far away. When the vet entered, he had no idea how to use the computer to look up my cat's records. The vet tech had to instruct him and repeatedly correct him. Even then, the vet missed the important information about my cat--specifically that she had just had blood work done the month before--and I had to instruct him further on how to look at my cat's past records to see that, indeed, he had a record of her blood work, sent over from another vet. The vet claimed that my cat was behind on her vaccinations (which may be true, though I'm not really sure), so he talked me into updating all her vaccinations before he even checked her most recent vet records (sent over from another vet, which I explained in my previous paragraph). Her vaccinations might actually have been up-to-date (from the records he hadn't checked yet), though I'm scared to go check, for fear that I was just charged unnecessarily. The vet was a horrible communicator, muttering something about her vaccinations being good for three years--but only if she gets them updated every year. When I asked for clarification on his nonsensical statement, he changed his story and said that other vets sometimes treat vaccinations as good for three years but by law they are only good for one year. I have no idea if this is true, but given his inability to use a computer properly, I have my doubts. Because my cat was unhappy about being at the vet (and was vocally expressing her unhappiness), the vet insisted that I buy some medication to help calm her down before taking her in for a yet-to-be-scheduled dental work appointment. When they finally prepared the medication for me, the instructions were to give it to her daily, for several days, AFTER the dental work was completed--not before. Fortunately, the medication was only $20 and I was eager to be away from such incompetence. My cat definitely needed (and still needs) dental work, so I had them prepare an estimate for how much it would cost. They quoted a range of prices, between approximately $900 and $1600. Upon checking with another vet (much further away but who has seen my cat previously), I was given a quote approximately half that amount. I will NEVER take my cat (or any pet) back to this vet. Carl Bokenstedt (the "vet") was unprofessional, apparently incompetent, and possibly a liar. I strongly recommend VCA Timpanogos Animal Hospital instead. read more

Overall we had a good experience with our older dog who needed some dental work. The staff was all very good and caring. Dr. B was the first vet we'd ever seen who simply said that "pets are part of the family" -- that little phrase is so accurate and compassionate. They called when he went under anesthesia, and when he was out of anesthesia -- something no other office had done when our pets were getting surgery. All the other offices just called us when it was done. And Pet Medical Services called a few days later to see how the dog was recovering. My only complaint is that the staff are not very good on the phone. There seems to be poor communication between whoever answers the phone, and the staff members who get the messages we leave with the receptionists. It can be a frustrating game of phone tag for refills on medication or to get simple questions answered over the phone. Perhaps they're understaffed or need better training. read more

I was not impressed at all with my experience today. The Vet was very short answered with me, didn't explain anything at all, looked at my girl and just said "yup, we need to pull the tooth" and left the room. Really? That's it?! Dr pew would have explained things to me, told me how the procedure would go. Also what really got me was the horrible review that talks about the dog passing away on the table just from a dental cleaning. Exactly what we're going to have done. I've lost all trust to put the life of my girl in your hands. Just walking in to the place I had horrible vibes. I sat patiently for the people In Front of me to finish up. Then a whole mexican family walk a head of me and the receptionist starts helping them. Like seriously?! I've been sitting here for 15 mins before they walked in. I've been coming here for 20+ years with every dog/cat I had because dr pew was amazing. I wasn't very impressed with the vet either. Very short answers. Didn't explain anything like dr pew used to. This place used to be great when Dr. Pew owned it. It's gone down hill and no wonder why they changed the name and all the vets. I think this will be the last time I'll be coming here. read more

It's also always clean and the vet techs and other staff put me right at ease if there is anything wrong. Ripped me off... BAD! I came in with my puppy of four months, he had a lump on his head. I came in believing it was a wart or a tick or a bite and I wanted it to get looked at. When I came in the vet was absolutely useless. Took a look at it and said.. "I have no idea." Then when I asked if we could biopsy it, he told me no and that the best move was to take my dog into surgery in case it was a tumor. Before I agreed, I asked him if he could possibly send me home with some antibiotic ointment in case it was a skin irritation or a bug bite, he said no and told me that they don't prescribe ointments or lotions for pets????? He took my puppy into surgery that very same day. When I returned to pick up my sweet boy, one of the veterinarian assistants sat with me and told me that they found another bump during surgery (now a total of two) and that they were tumors in her opinion. I got my young puppy back and sulked and cried for weeks waiting for the biopsy to return... they told me the results would come back in 5-7 days... I didn't get the results back for THREE weeks!!! So I went through three weeks of emotional torture thinking my dog might have cancer. After a long awaited THREE WEEKS, the biopsy said that the bumps on my dogs head were spider bites!!!!!!!! I spent $700, went through emotional hell, had my dog go through recovery all over some bug bites???? That vet is complete trash and so is this facility. I honestly want a full refund. I'm not a vet and I knew it was tumors from the start and yet, they pushed me into surgery and toyed with my emotions telling me there was a tumor before the biopsy was even submitted. Me and my wife have taken our dogs there for years We have 3 dogs and 2 cats The staff there was always so friendly and greeted our pets by name every time. The veterinarian or what I call him the doctor It is the most knowledgeable and friendly man you will ever meet has a definite genuine concern for your animal. Staff needs to learn how to handle bunnies so they don't paralyze them. And the vet seems to actually NOT care about life-or-death of the animals at all!! Took my sweet 6 month old HEALTHY bunny to get pre neutering blood work and exam done and a urine check and went home with my sweet bunny boy no longer alive! Not sure what the staff did to him in the back room, but when the obviously unknowledgable vet tech came back to the room she put him inside his carrier on his BACK, I saw it immediately and said " you can't put him on his back, you'll paralyze him" then I ran over scooped him up, she tried to say the bunny tangled himself in blanket ( which did NOT happen). Then took him to the back for oxygen supposedly. 5-8 mins later the vet comes into the room and very blankly says " well he didn't make it ". Very stone cold like. HE WAS PERFECTLY FINE BEFORE I TOOK HIM THERE FOR AN EXAM, NOW MY KIDS, HUSBAND & I ARE WITHOUT THE LIFE OF OUR HOME. HE WAS SPECIAL TOO BECAUSE HE WASN'T A DOMESTICATED BUNNY. HE WAS A BEAUTIFUL FULLY ACCLIMATED COTTONTAIL. SO IT'S NOT LIKE WE CAN JUST GO OUT AND BUY ANOTHER BUNNY! HE HAD A STORY TO HIM, A LIFE , AND SOOO MUCH LOVE. WE JUST FEEL EMPTY NOW. I have been going here for 3+ years for my now 14 year old pup. I guess they've been sold to new owners? To be honest I had no idea, and have always had a great experience going here. No vet has tried to meet my dog where he is at before going here. The staff here has always done their best to accommodate his nervousness and this is the only vet I've ever been to that my dog freely walks into and does not try to leave in a panic once inside. 3 years of going here and my dog will walk inside without being forced at all, amazing. This location has been sold to new veterinarians. I showed up on time for my appointment with two dogs. I sat there for 18 minutes in the lobby before being acknowledged. After being placed in a waiting room, I waited another 32 minutes before I got up and walked out. I had to ask for my paperwork they borrowed. I never did get to see a veterinarian. It would have taken a DVM literally 5 minutes to give my dogs their annual vaccinations. Who knew my time and money had no value? read more

Because of the new staff I will not be taking my dog here anymore. To make a VERY long and frustrating experience short, I found my dog had a $1,200 urinary tract infection. They tested for the extremes (x-rays, ultrasound, thyroid) before testing for a simple condition. They are overworked, unorganized, and don't listen to what you say about your animal (I had to repeat several times that my dog did not have diarrhea). A VISITING doctor found the problem after a simple assessment. I feel bad leaving a horrible review, but when you hear galloping, think horses, not zebra. read more

DO NOT take your pets here. They failed to diagnose my dog's cancer while she boarded with them for two weeks. Because of this, by the time I diagnosed her mammary tumor (not them) it was too late & we had to put her to sleep. The vet seemed very cavalier about my sweet dog's condition and said there was nothing more she could do for my dog. I take my dog to ALL ABOUT PETS, which is an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) approved facility. They are a great organization. read more

I read the reviews and checked local prices. This place was pretty good. The people are nice and the clinic is clean. The prices are pretty good, too, for the area. I went in to have my dog vaccinated and get a script for a pet med so I could order it online for her. When I asked for a script for heartworm meds, they just brought the meds out instead of writing a script. I thought it was pushy, but they charge less than online websites charge by about 10 bucks and they even had 10 dollar coupons that we could fill out that they mailed in for us. I got the rebate a week later in the mail. After reading what the spay/neuter clinics's reviewers had to say on google, I'm afraid to go to any of those. It was $120 for the visit, a year of heartworm meds, 3 month vaccination, and rabies vaccination. Considering petsmart charged $75 for one vaccination and an office visit with a free visit coupon and tried to make me feel guilty (said I hate my dog if I didn't buy their $1000 dollar plan that doesn't include most of what's needed the first year) for not buying their bogus health plan, I think it's a pretty good deal in price. And the spay there is 175. I'll update the review after the spay, too. read more

They act like they've never handled an animal before, the place is old and dirty, and there's an awkward tension between the employees as if they don't get along with each other. Just a strange visit. Can't trust my pet's life in the hands of a vet that makes me feel uncomfortable. read more

I always thought they were good with my husband's cat and my bunny. I did really appreciate finding a vet who could properly care for what is considered an exotic. (bunnies are exotic? Uh... okay I guess) Later in life my husband's cat became diabetic. They were great with diagnosing and getting us set up with a plan, at first. After an extensive amount of research we decided to get the cat set up on a proper low carb canned food diet. When we told the vet at the next follow up we were essentially told we were terrible pet owners who have no clue what we're doing and to stop immediately and put him back on his dry food that had a ton of carbs in it. We were also told that home testing is a waste of time and to accept that he would spend the rest of his life on insulin. For basic care, they're good. But when it comes to following the updates on appropriate healthcare for pets I think they're just missing the boat. The science evolves, and a vet's office needs to evolve with it. We went with a different vet when we adopted a new guy. If you feel like you need to lie to your vet so you don't get scolded when you have science to back up your appropriate care of them, it just isn't a good relationship any more. Their prices are good, and if you just need the basics I didn't have a problem with them. But I was just not comfortable continuing with them for a new animal after our experience. read more
