We enjoy stopping here to pick up any items we need for our dog. We enjoy this store because it is enormous and houses a great selection. We call it "Doggy Costco" as a result. The selection of food, treats, toys, grooming supplies, etc. far surpasses that of Petsmart of PetCo. We are particular about what our dog eats, and we have zero issues finding what we need here. We also love the ample selection of "tough toys" for our boy, as he is a power chewer. Only thing we wish is that they had collars and leashes that were tougher. We aren't familiar with the brands they offer here, but we've had the best luck with Kong and items with frog clips. Not much of that can be found here, but that's just a preference. Staff are polite and courteous, and we always find what we need. Recommended! read more

I have asked for animals and she acts like I am bothering her, a few weeks ago I asked for a certain animal and she said no she can not sell them to me, I asked why. and being put off she explained. not in a calm way but a very you are bothering me way, which immediately made me leave the store. If you're a cat parent, you have to check out Pet Goods! They have the largest selection of cat food, treats, beds and toys I've seen in the area! The cat beds are pretty expensive, but they're great quality. Food prices are just slightly cheaper than chewy auto-ship. Petco and Petsmart never have half the stock Pet Goods has. The customer service is great. Everyone we've spoken too is very nice and helpful. I would give 5 stars if they had more cat supplements! read more

I received a gift card to this store, however I live out of state. I called the store to ask how to place an order online since there wasn't an option to pay with a gift card. The person who took my call said "I don't know anything about gift cards". So I asked if there was someone else I could speak with. She put me on hold, when she came back she told me to call another location. I called the other location. I had to go through 3 people to get an answer, which ended up being - no. Been a customer for many many years - with our first puppy there was always a free exchange on leashes and collars from puppy chewing. Our dog lived for 15 years. we had taken a break for our next puppy and rescued a real beauty from Bergen. I have an account with pet goods as my wife does. We bought a harness for the new puppy which was too big so we wanted to exchange it and were DENIED due to slight wear! I spoke to the manager who was like a car salesman - all I wanted was a credit as a long time customer. She went back and forth during the time I spoke with the cashier. I said I was a long time customer and thought they wouldnt want to lose our business. The cashier said you havent been here since 2022 - I told her our dog died - you fucking idiot. I have been going to this store since. It has opened. Normally the employees are friendly and helpful. However whoever the young woman who works in the fish department in the back of the store at around 12:00pm March 5, 2022 was not helpful at all and rude. On 4 different occasions she blatantly just ignored me and if I didn't as ask she would never ask if I needed help. On the last occasion she was talking to a friend who did not work in the store and when I asked for help she just said I know and continued chatting with her friend, so I left. It's a shame, I like that store. I will not shop in that store again as long as she is still employed there. Luckily there is a Petco right across the highway. read more

I adopted a wonderful senior pit bull. I shopped here exclusively, because it was new, well stocked and had the special science diet and treats for his poor stomach. The staff where very nice, and signed me up for the cash awards. We would exchange pictures of our dogs. I spent over 2,700 in less than two years. Each time i went in she ask if you want to use your credits which where about 193. I always said no. My Huckleberry had bladder cancer and went to his resting place. I adopted another pitt, Rusty. I wanted to get him some new toys and treats. the old staff is gone, replaced by new incompetent and rude staff. I said i want to use my credit and gave my phone number and was told fine. After, shopping i was told that my credit, was zero and how is that possible, and she acknowledged my that i spent 2,700 but could not explain why my credit was zeroed out. She then walk away and sent over another guy, who could not explain, but said, do you buy these or not and you get credit, I said, what f ing rip off. Zeroed out my credits. He said he is going to call the police. I said your ripping off an old man. I will never spend a penny Pet Goods again. i am going to write the Attorney General. read more

Petgoods is located in Paramus, right off of Rte 17 S. When I walked in for the first time, I was surprised at the size of the place. It is very large with a high ceiling and aisles practically bursting with toys, food, medication, and everything in-between. In addition to the usual pet food brands and products you can find at most chain stores and even your local supermarket, Petgoods also carries many different high-end labels which are a bit harder to track down. Prices are pretty competitive, though you can likely find more frequent sales at the big box pet stores on the other side of Rte 17. Their aquatics and exotics sections are both great, with healthy looking livestock, excellent variety and enthusiastic employees ready to answer any questions you may have. For reptile owners, Petgoods is also a reliable source for live feeders (pinkies, hoppers, jumbo rats, etc). Another great characteristic of Petgoods is that the store has been very clean every time I've been there. Whether it's a late night stop a few minutes before closing or a quick trip during lunch, the store has always been spotless and odor-free. As I mentioned earlier, the staff is top-notch. Being located right next to a large strip featuring retailers such as Homegoods and Burlington Coat Factory, there is a very large lot which usually has plenty of parking space, though it can get a bit cramped during the weekend. read more

Today was the first time being disappointed in this store. I've been going here for years because the staff is friendly, the store is clean and I usually find what I need. Today I went in early in the day to get something and had a coupon which clearly stated the expiration date of 4/16/18, Today is 3/23/18 I was told that it was expired and couldn't use it. When the manager came out, she had the worst attitude and was very surly. I worked many years in retail and would have accepted an explanation if it made sense. I was told the flyer the coupon was printed on had a specific frame of time listed on it, which had already passed. This was all told with a very snotty tone. Ultimately the manager adjusted the price and walked off. In this day and age of brick and mortar stores closing constantly, you need good employees to keep customers coming back. The cashier was extremely sweet and it's because of her that I will go back agian. If it were not for her, that awful store manager would have been enough for me to never return. She was awful, not management material at all. I advise corporate to look up who was the manager today at 10am and do something about it. You will lose many customers if she doesn't start acting like customers matter. I was in no way confrontational or mean. I am appalled I was treated the way I was today. To the cashier, thank you. This is the best pet store in Paramus, hands down. Their shelves are always well-stocked with pet food, treats and toys. Much better selection here as compared to the other two pet mega-stores in the area. The workers are friendly and helpful. It's a large store but usually not crowded. Their location works against them as they are somewhat hidden from the highway on Rt. 17 S (next to HomeGoods and Burlington), but well worth seeking out. read more

This is the only store I will shop at for my guinea pigs. Their prices are good, the store is VERY clean, and the staff is very helpful. You can find all sorts of fun things for your pets and for yourself, such as a giant strawberry bed for your cat and Dogopoly! The Board Game. A very hit or miss place; the only problem I had with this is my furry small animal needed a bigger cage, but the price was too much! I got her a bigger C&C cage (for $40), but the original one was much smaller and was $90. :( Sadly, this store doesn't have a meet and greet policy for guinea pigs, so do watch out for this. read more

I only give this place 3 stars due to their HORRIBLE RETURN POLICY. You only have one week, yes you heard it right folks --ONE WEEK, that's only 7 days to return an item once you have purchased it if you want to get your money back, otherwise you only get a store credit. Only one week to return something is ridicules. On the positive side, they carry a number of items the chain pet stores don't carry at all, such as freeze dried RAW dog & cat food. The store is clean & cashiers are friendly. If they will change their return policy to be MORE REALISTIC. I would be glad to increase my star rating that I gave. read more

I bought a bag of dog biscuits here and it had bugs in it. I returned it and thought I would try the loose dog biscuits. There were moths flying around and in them. The last time I was there, I thought I would look at the dog beds. They were all over the floor, which had dog pee on it. I couldn't find anyone to help me, so I left. On the way out, I saw no less than four employees hanging around outside smoking. Forget this place! I'm sticking with Petco. I've never had a problem there, they do grooming, and their store card actually does something. read more

Bad customer service. Returned an unused dog bed (xmas gift) and was given a hard time by cashier. Wanted to issue store credit and I refused to accept that. I was begrudgingly given a refund and made to feel as if I was a criminal for returning something. Store manager could care less when I told her about the incident. They may be a little more expensive, but they carry the quality which my pets are worth spending the extra money for . Staff have always helped and stayed until after closing to explain different facts to me and to answer all my questions. That to me is going above and beyond. I recommend this store for anyone who spoils their pet. But remember it is a pet store, so if an owner has not picked up after his dog its not the stores fault its the owners. I have read some complaints but it mostly has to do with the pet owners not watching their little one has an accident or two. I will be going there to stock up next week for supplies. p.s. My wife bought a pet coat and the manager told her that it was returnable. My wife went back the next day to return the coat (it was too small), and she was told NO RETURNS PERIOD. EXCHANGES ONLY. My wife spoke to the manager and she denied saying the day before that the coat could be returned. She then pointed my wife to the NO RETURNS sign, which was hidden behind a pile of coats. (This review is for the Poughkeepsie store. Paramus is the head office). The store manager refused to talk to me. I tried to email customer service, but the Petgoods.com Contact page is EMPTY. Their return policy page is also EMPTY. This is a company that does not want to be contacted. My wife returned to the store after I called head office to complain (number not listed on their web site of course). They moved the NO RETURNS sign out from behind the coats! read more

DO NOT SHOP THERE EVER. Bought a defective light for tank, lost receipt and tried to replace it, brought along the old burnt out light bulb I bought in June to prove it was defective. Was basically treated like a criminal looking to scam the store. They looked up past receipts where we usually dropped $100+ but would still not let me exchange the defective light. Had to buy a new bulb and catfood while I was there because I needed it. As I was checking out I heard the manager talking bad about me -Will NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN. Go to PetSmart if you want to be treated nice. This is THE supermarket for pet owners! One of my issues in the past was variety. When you go to the other popular stores, the variety is not there! My dog is very particular (as most Huskies and Samoyeds are) and if she does not like the food, she will not eat. There are so many aisles of food and toys for dogs, I catch myself spending a lot of time down each one! My dog's favorite - Cowboy Cookout and Wingaling canned food. The Wingaling comes complete with 2 chicken wings! It's a "people food" feast for dogs you don't have to feel guilty about giving. My dog eats better than me! As for toy selection, this place has it! There are so many different toys to choose from! And to pamper your pet, there's even a "dog bakery". The baked goods look so delectable, you want to eat them yourself! If you're really sick and tired of the humdrum monopoly pet chain stores, I plead with you to try out Pet Goods on the south side of route 17 in Paramus. We had often stopped with our daughter just to window shop. We learned SO much from the very enthusiastic and educated staff about the suitability of various small animals. So when it finally came time to buy a pet, we went right to PetGoods and had the same helpful salesman guide us. We are very enamored with our hamster and have a pet that is compatible with our family's travel and environment. Since then, I've picked up a few small accessories at the big chain stores, but have not gotten as good advice.
