I went to pet food express today at 4:57 ( I know this because I have a clock in my car) the door to the store was open I quickly got my dog food which was easy because I knew exactly what I needed I went to the cashier and nobody was there- the Cashier then ambled over and said the store was closed.... First of all it was surprising that it closed so early!!! Second by the time the cashier came over it was literally 5:00on the dot!! I am not sure why they were completely shut down that early and yet the doors were open. The cashier said I could order online but the app didn't work, I truly don't understand, most people don't close their cash registers while keeping the door unlocked. I think it's really important to treat customers well and I feel like this was just a ridiculous way to treat a customer, clearly these people want to get out of the store as fast as they can and i get it, but there needs to be a little window of flexibility - I don't think I will return !!! read more

We took our 10 month old Doberman (Kano) here for a bath and some goodies after a long weekend at UC Davis. He had been at a board and train in Fresno, where he had been completely neglected and starved, so as you can imagine we were emotional wrecks. I've gathered from my animal nutrition class that foods like these are just trying to hit a sensitive spot with the new pet-crazed millennial market and aren't actually focused on pet health. For example, there is nothing wrong with grain in dog food, there's just grains that are lacking nutrients that should be avoided. Anyways, I went here to buy some wet cat food, and even with all the weird brands I finally chose one. I figured why not go with a silly brand while I'm here? I got a case of something like Grandma's Chicken Soup. FIRST OF ALL, it was not priced, when I checked out it was about 50$!!! The case wasn't even large. THEN, neither my house cats nor my stray cats I take care of liked it. They would just drink the broth and leave the nasty noodle looking things and the peas and carrots. The food looked cute, like soup, but it was just to get the owners to buy overpriced food. I've also been here before a long time ago to help pick out a healthy dog food for my mom's dog, and it took forever! I like recommendations, but I don't like feeling pressured. Once I was there, I was truly impressed by their customer service and selection - not to mention their buy 3, get a 4th free offer for food, toys, etc. One of their salespeople helped me find some new wet food options for my ever-finicky cat and assured me that anything he doesn't like, I can return for an exchange (just bring the cleaned out cat food can back to the store). Really big place that carries a decent amount of stuff. Crazy pet owners looking for a specific type of food (Honest Kitchen in this case) may actually locate said nourishment at this location. Sections are clearly marked: "cat stuff" "dog stuff" etc., etc. which is lovely. There is also a clearly marked wash station for pets also. This could prove useful for those in apartments with pets. Today was one of my worst day in my life I was rushed to a vet in Davis because my cats were in critical condition. Honestly, I was so frustrated and scared that I didn't even think in right way. It's easy to lose track of time in this store because the clerks are so friendly and knowledgeable and really help you explore your options when you're looking into new products for your pets. I could've easily stayed a few hours because of how easy it was talking to Luis and Parker about pets and their behaviors and preferences. I've recently switched over to Nutri Source from Royal Canin Indoor bc the cats are getting older and I want the best for them. Luis pointed out how the main ingredient in NS is chicken, whereas RC is corn based. This made sense to why the cats excretions were less stinky: they were absorbing more nutrients. I even made a change to their wet food, graduating them from the Wellness they were on since kittens over to Instinct, then to Kiwi, Nulo and Weruva, which are higher quality products. I've never been disappointed with the selection at this Petfood Express or the experts that work here. Since I travel from Vacaville, I stock up for a couple months, since it's hard to beat that "Buy 3, get the 4th free". Upon check out, Luis recommended the Primal Nuggets to mix in with their wet food. I've been interested in getting a good supplement for my boys and when he explained the benefits, I was sold. The nuggets are pretty big, but they break easily and I usually split one when I'm fixing their wet food bowls and add water so they get their moisture with it. I've been using this product for 5 days and already I see a difference in their coats. My grey fur baby deals with dandruff, and since using this product, his fur hasn't looked healthier. We've never lived in South Davis so we never have frequented Pet Food Express. That has recently changed, and we couldn't be happier. Pet Food Express is the dream location for all your pet needs. The staff is so, so friendly and is always willing to offer excellent advice. After learning our pup was about to go into surgery they gave us a sample of a bland diet for her to try so that her recovering would be a little easier. She ended up loving the food, so we went back and bought the ingredients from the same brand so that we could make our own. The employees had remembered us and went so far as to even ask us how she was doing. Honestly, it was that small bonus that makes them standout to me as a place I'll be going back to. Since our pup is only 9lbs we don't need to utilize their pet washing stations (she just gets her baths in the sink!) but I love that they have them for bigger dogs. OK this is super weird of me to rate a pet supply store... but this place is amazing. The service I received here was exceptional in a trying time. In short, one of my cats was not eating and eventually had to be placed on a feeding tube. While I was still trying to get her to eat, I went here and the person helping me was so caring and compassionate that she led me throughout the entire store searching for what she knew to be the most consistent treats and foods cats liked. She even comped me a special frozen cat treat as an additional thing for me to try. I cannot say better things about the level of care the employees here put into their work. My pup is super picky with her food, but the lady helped us find a few things that she loves (she's gaining weight now). They have a great selection of food that is healthy and good for the pup. A long overdue review! This is hands down my favorite pet store. I have been going here for years to get things for my cats. The staff here are exceptionally nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. You step into the store, and you immediately feel welcome and happy! Another thing I would like to add is that all the products they carry are high quality pet products. If they sell it in their store, it is only because they are confident in the product, and can confirm the product's quality. You'll never see Friskies or Meow Mix here. One of my cats had urinary tract problems in the past, and the staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful on which products I should get to help with the problem. Wishing we had one in Fairfield! They carry such a great selection of everything dog. I have been to two different stores: one in San Pablo and the other in Napa. Totally love the consistency. My dogs even love going. I have a very finicky Mal and she does so well in PFE, still doesn't let anyone pet her but definitely comfortable with walking about. CHACH IS AMAZING I came in for the first time yesterday evening assuming I'd be left to my own devices in searching for some new food for my cat, but immediately upon walking in I was greeted by an employee who asked if they could assist me. Once I explained that I was looking into buying some cat food, he directed me to Chach, who he mentioned was very knowledgeable on all things cats related. About one year ago I rescued a small chi and had no idea what to get. The staff was so helpful. They even suggest to put a bell around his neck because I was so worried I'd step on him. This was my first time going in this store. I have major anxiety from going into stores that I am not familiar with. Due to the covid 19 regulations all stores are requiring customers to wear masks, which had me stressed even more. My wife and I stopped by with our two fur babies to check out their food selection. It was originally supposed to be a quick 5 minute stop, but it turn into a whole hour of exploring. I have never been in a pet store, or any retail establishment for that matter, with such awesome customer service! The people who work here are so positive, and they genuinely love animals! Everyone rushed over to greet our babies, and they immediately offered to pet them and give them free treats. The warm welcome we received was so refreshing! Just wandering around the aisles and being in the atmosphere is fun. They have a fantastic pet food selection. My little chihuahua, Ruby, has extreme sensitivity to her environment and her food. Even the slightest exposure to an allergy could cause her to break out in a painful, itchy rash. We'd been searching for an allergy-friendly food that would be gentle on her tummy. The staff were super helpful and VERY knowledgeable about which foods would be a good fit. They sell a new line of homemade dog food that is essentially just human food without seasoning. I was surprised that the price was pretty reasonable, and wasn't too expensive. We ended up trying it out, and Ruby LOVED it. No rashes, no reaction. It was great! The woman who helped us also made us aware of another food option. The same food we tried is supplemented with a vitamin mix that can be incorporated into homemade food. To save money, they sell containers of the supplement with recipes and instructions on how to prepare your own dog food. I LOVE this idea. It would save us so much money and we'd be able to make food that Ruby loves in bulk. We're definitely going to try this option out. Pet Food Express has a fantastic food selection, but they also have pretty much everything you could possibly think of to care for animal friends. They have lots of organic and all natural selections for food, toys, waste bags, leashes, etc. They also have a bathe-your-own-dog station, where you can bring your dog in to give them an awesome bath! There are hoses, shower nozzles, drying stations, and grooming areas where you can clean your pooch. Honestly, this is the best pet store EVER. Hands down my favorite spot. The best pet supply store has just gotten better! I went in to look at food bowls for my cats and also a friend's dogs. I was promptly greeted by a very helpful salesclerk named Ashley. I'm in the store often and was unsure if I had met Ashley previously. When I asked if we had met, she told me, "No, not yet, but its a pleasure to meet you." She helped me find what I was looking for but more importantly, when I was choosing items, she could see I was fumbling between my water bottle, purse, pet food bowls, etc. Ashley asked, "May I hold something for you?" This is the level of service one would expect when shopping in a high-end, expensive store such as Nordstrom's. But a pet supply store? I shop at PFE Davis frequently! VERY knowledgable and helpful staff. Helped me set my cat up on a healthy diet. Not only helped me pick the food but helped me understand the in's-and-out's of each product and benefits. Told me the affects of switching from her bad cat food to good cat food, and made suggestions to help meow meow with the drastic (but extremely healthier diet). Pet Food Express has great customer services and a variety of products. Besides Safeway that sells pet food, this place is the only shop in South Davis that provides everything I need for my pet. The missing star, however, reflects on the price. Comparing with other retailers, Pet Food Express is a little more pricey for college students. I personally come here for the BIG and SUPER CUTE cookie treats for my shiba inu, Boba. They are hard that usually takes Boba a couple of hours to finish. I bought three and got the 4th one for free which is GREAT! In short, great place, great people and great products! read more
