:) I love the little handwritten "report cards" I'll sometimes get and I love seeing that there are regular activities planned for the pups to do.

Before that, we enjoyed dog parks and meeting other dogs and their owners on our daily walks. She became aggressive during puberty. The Vet said let's wait to see what happens after the spay. Jade got more aggressive, not less. Desiree is a dog whisperer. When we met at our consultation, Desire walked into my backyard, and Jade snarled and bounded across toward her. I almost fainted watching my huge dog running toward her. Desiree did her trainer thing, and Jade completely relaxed. I watched Jade become putty in her hands within minutes, and I AM NOT EXAGGERATING. The training was detailed and extensive. My dog responds to me when I call her with a quiet "hey" when she starts to play with my cats or go towards the kitchen. She places in the house even when guests arrive, or someone rings the doorbell. Her PICA (eating non-food items) is almost completely gone. ( Jade is s/p a life-threatening bowel obstruction after eating a towel) She went to the dog park and played with a Golden until her energy was spent a few days ago. I can play with her off-leash and have confidence in my abilities to communicate with her. A couple of weeks after the training, Jade all of sudden began to be triggered by the satellite dishes and telephone polls on our walks. Well, you can imagine how difficult it became with aggressive barking and then refusal to move. I called Desiree, and she drove the 20 miles to my house immediately. She offered some recommendations, which I applied right away and I could see that the initial onslaught of fear dissipated over a couple of weeks. Desiree is professional, prompt, clear, and is phenomenal with dogs. It's been 8 months since training and Jade is an amazing companion. Thank you, Desiree

My grandmother had fallen very ill, very quickly and we needed to rehome her two sheep-doodles. Sadly (unbeknownst to us due to her illness) the pups were not being cared for properly... they were matted, dry skin, potty stuck to their fur... we needed same day help because these poor dogs couldn't live this way. When I had difficulty getting him to my ca after the surgery she helped walk Rio to the car and got him in. Few times that we were not able to come to daycare for few weeks, upon return Silver would get on her knees to greet and hug Rio (her velcro dog). It is telling to see him love her so much and her so excited to see her too. Similarly Abby has been fantastic at the front desk, greeting dog parents as they come in, remembering dogs names. When there are additional charges for grooming she calls before processing payment. Their love for pets is clearly shown as Rio gets so excited few miles before we arrive and even though he is not supposed to pull he is very eager to get to see his friends and the staff.

He quickly was able to identify that our dog wasn't aggressive, there was dynamics playing out in house between all dogs that created a level of tension. He provided us with tools to diffuse the house when we noticed signs that he identified that would lead to a scuffle. We saw no further aggressive behaviors from any of our dogs. One of dogs has never listened to any commands. One hour with Josh and she was trained on how to sit, lay down, and "place" with hand motions only! He has opened our eyes to the unending ways we can work with her. I can't thank him enough. Both dogs are now friendly with each other and we have had no further issues in our home. I highly recommend K9 Optima for anyone experiencing aggression issues. He is kind, compassionate, and truly does this to enrich the lives of the dogs he works with.

Josh is a genuinely kind person with a heart of gold, but based on our experience, I would not…read morerecommend him as a dog trainer. We paid over $6,000 for a one-month board-and-train program for our German Shepherd. One of the first things that concerned us was that he told us he had "his dogs" teaching our dog how to be a dog. We expected that, for the price, our dog would receive consistent, hands-on training from the trainer himself. Because the training took place over the Christmas holidays, it felt like our dog did not receive the level of attention and daily training we had anticipated. We also expected that, at the end of the program, we as the owners would receive several training sessions to learn how to maintain and reinforce the work at home. That never happened. When our dog came home, she was still reactive, continued chewing things as she had before, and overall showed little to no improvement. Josh gave us a spray collar (citronella or a similar scent) and instructed us to use it whenever she barked. I wasn't comfortable using it because it felt like it addressed the symptoms rather than the underlying behavior, so I chose not to use it. He also suggested that she was simply too active and that we should consider rehoming her if we couldn't handle her. That advice turned out to be completely wrong for our dog. Afterward, we worked with a local trainer for three months who focused on daily, balanced, hands-on training for both our dog and us--without spray collars or gimmicks. The transformation was remarkable. Her reactivity is gone, she learned how to behave appropriately, and we realized she wasn't "too active" at all. She was simply a family dog who needed consistent guidance and proper training. Looking back, I feel that the board-and-train program was not worth the money we paid. While Josh was always pleasant and well-intentioned, our experience was that the program did not deliver the training or results we were promised. Don't waste your money. Josh may be a great guy to rescue dogs, but in our experience he does not know how to do reactivity training or work alongside owners to change challenging behaviors.

Legitimately loved this vet clinic. (You're gonna want to keep reading!!!)…read more I'm a first-time puppy owner and 3 days after I brought my pug puppy (2-month old) home, he started showing symptoms of Parvo, which obviously freaked me out. (And the Google search results that told me his survival rate with treatment would be around 60%-90% freaked me out even more) First, I took him a highly rated Yelp vet clinic that had an availability for him on the same day. Of course I know Parvo is very serious, but the technicians there made the whole situation very negative and made me even more nervous. They recommended me to either take my puppy to a 24/7 vet hospital which would have been crazy expensive (they would not give me a general price/quote for it either!) or conduct home treatment which they said will most likely not work. They didn't give me a third option. I'm pretty sure I didn't even get to speak to a doctor. I just felt frustrated and pessimistic about the whole already-stressful situation. However, I immediately called my friend whose friend worked at Yolo Vet Clinic, and she told me she recommended me to take my puppy there for a second opinion and for more transparency on Parvo treatment prices...and everything is now history! The Dr. Bulkeley and the technicians at Yolo Vet helped me and my pup so much. As soon as I got there, they kept me feeling optimistic and positive, and by ensuring me that I caught the symptoms early and calming me down. They gave me a clear picture of what their non-24/7 hospitalization process looked like, and gave me a realistic price estimate. Before, I thought Parvo puppies could only survive at a super pricey 24/7 vet hospital (being misled by the other clinic) due to the low-ish survival rate, but I had no idea how fast my puppy would get better and recover under the care of Yolo Vet! He came home after 3 days and the technicians gave me specific instructions on how to continue to support his recovery! But of course do keep in mind that each puppy is different and have different immune systems! To say I'm eternally grateful would be an understatement. I loved and appreciated their transparency, optimism, friendliness, and professionalism. Their app also helped so I could contact their technician if I had any questions. Overall, suuuuper positive experience!

Before training, we struggled with potty training, jumping, being extremely hyper, not being able to focus, and staying calm around other people and dogs. After just five weeks, the difference has been incredible. My dog is so much more focused, relaxed, well-mannered, and confident. She can now be around people and other dogs without being overwhelmed, and our daily life has become so much easier and more enjoyable. What really sets this trainer apart is that the support doesn't end when your dog comes home. She still checks in with me every week, answers all of my questions, and continues to help me build on everything my dog learned during training. Knowing I have that ongoing guidance has made such a huge difference. As someone who has a lot of anxiety about my dog, she was also incredibly understanding and reassuring throughout the entire process. Leaving my dog for five weeks was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but she took amazing care of her, and I knew she was in the best hands. I'm so grateful for everything she's done for us. She didn't just train my dog, she helped improve both of our lives. If you're considering training for your dog, I truly can't recommend her enough!

I have learned skills that will help me with future fosters., I have learned its the human directing boundaries and behavior. Tyson will never be perfect, but with the right tools he is able to live a fun and enjoyable life (so am I). I cannot stress enough how important training is when owning a dog, even if that dog seems 'perfect' . We still need the knowledge when there are other not so behaved dogs that we are able to handle the situation. I cannot say enough about Gabby, her patience, her knowledge and dedication to the dog and human are beyond just training. She continues to help me learn and understand managing Tyson, she never gets frustrated with questions and re-teaching (me) the tools for success. She treats every dog differently as they are different in every way. She takes the time to get to know them and what they need. I cannot say enough about Gabby and how she has made having a highly reactive dog pleasant to walk . Training is never done, I learn something new at ever class.
