First of all, this place is HUGE. I'm talking three separate buildings, two restaurants, a coffee shop, and a pool. It's incredibly beautiful with tons of historic charm. There's two entrances so be sure to head to the one closest to the coffee shop since that's where check in is. If you enter near the restaurants, you'll have to trudge across the pool area, down a hallway, and up an elevator to find check in. Each building features slightly different accommodations with one of the buildings offering fully equipped apartments with kitchens and laundry. Since we were only here for two nights, we stayed in one of the more basic hotel rooms which featured a beautiful sitting area, VERY comfortable bed, spacious bathroom with a nice shower, and plenty of wardrobe storage. As luxurious as this place felt, it wasn't as well equipped as some of the cheaper hotels we stayed at. For example, there was a kettle but no nespresso machine so the options were instant coffee or tea. Our windows looked directly into the patio of the restaurant and there were no privacy blinds, just heavy shutters that blocked out all the light. There was no mini fridge, ice bucket, or wine key. We had to ask concierge for ice which they supplied for us in a trash bag (we were just using it to chill a bottle of wine) and the wine key was provided as well but had to be delivered to our room. Directions to get to our room were vague and incorrect. We were told our room was 306 and to go to the building in which it was located. I asked if we took the elevator up to floor 3 and the man at the desk said yes. However, floor 3 was actually just a mechanical closet. Super confusing. One of the guests ended up pointing us down a hallway from the first floor, which led us to an unmarked door which eventually took us down another hallway and then to our room. More signage would really have been helpful!

The property has two restaurants; Joanna is THE BEST! What an incredible experience. The other one was ok for me. The staff at the hotel, from the front desk to the cafe and bar was incredible! I stayed in the one bedroom apartment and it was quite nice, clean, beautiful and spacious. The surrounding area was quiet (bonus) and I couldn't recommend this place anymore. You do have to pay for daily room service if you stay less than a week, but it's all good and still worth it. Having a kitchen, washer and dryer and balcony well make up for it. Enjoy your stay!

The hotel's position is in the heart of Alto Barrio, conveniently located for all the main sights. It's right across the square from Carmo Convent, which our room had a fantastic view of. If you want to venture further, it's also just a few streets from an underground stop (Baixa Chiado). Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, all speaking perfect English. The rooms were delightful and spotless and had a fantastic shower. The hotel was quiet when we were there (it was off season) so they gave us a free room upgrade too. Free bottled water and coffee in the rooms, a nice restaurant on site... you can't go wrong!

The Hotel staff knows when you enter and exit the Hotel. During our stay, we kept our money locked in the safe. Before we checked out, we packed our bags and put our money in our luggage. We then put up the "Do Not Disturb" sign and went for a half hour walk. The Hotel staff observed us leave at that time. While we were out, Hotel staff entered our room without permission and stole our money. We know we had the money, because we had just counted it for a tour in Porto the next day. After the theft, the Lisboa Carmo Hotel Management lied to us and tried to cover-up the crime. When I first called the Hotel, the Hotel staff person Louise Silva told me that they had cameras and that I should call back the next day to speak with Hotel management to have the video reviewed to solve the crime. The next day, I spoke with Assistant Hotel Manager Rafael, who told me that the Security Manager could review the video on Monday to see who wrongfully entered our room. However, the next day, the Hotel Manager Richardo Salvador sent me an email refusing to produce the video and threatened to sue me. That was so offensive. It seems clear that Richardo Salvador was lying and covering up the theft. His refusal to produce the video is proof that Hotel staff stole our money. My recommendation is there are lots of good hotels in Lisbon. So, stay away from the Lisboa Carmo Hotel!

We did have a car and the hotel recommended a good underground lot about a 10 minute walk away that was not too expensive. Our room was smaller but it was very efficient and well appointed. The room came with complimentary teas and Nespresso pods plus a large 2 liter bottle of "still water" and a gorgeous bathroom. The pillows, bedding and towels were fantastic. The water pressure was wonderful also. We were there in August and the air conditioning worked well also. The room also had a ceiling fan. The restaurant and bar was really good also. They have an incredible hamburger. Browns also has a coffee shop nextdoor. Brown's Central is in the heart of shopping, restaurants, coffee and pastry shops. However with all this, our room was quiet. The staff was friendly and accommodating and made great suggestions for dinner.

We asked for a quiet end of corridor room and were given one however it overlooked the side of a square and thus we thought it could be noisy....how wrong we were. The glazing is superb and despite having two doors out to balcony we heard nothing. The room was compact but very well designed having enough furniture to be useful but none to get in the way. The small bathroom had a deep tub with excellent shower over it. A small fridge kept my quickly delivered small jug of fresh milk cool. We travel with our own tea bags so did not use the in room espresso machine on this occasion. The bed with an excellent king mattress, pillows and linen were top notch. It is rare to find such a good selection of pillows in a hotel these days. Most importantly the room preparation crew did an excellent job and the whole hotel was spotless. Being give some custard tarts, a small bottle of port upon arrival and a bottle of red vino for our last night were lovely touches. ALL the staff we came across were friendly and helpful and the waiters in the restaurant were delightful and chatty in the best way. We ate in the bar one night and found the selection of foods to be very interesting and tasty. Breakfast buffet was exceptionally managed and never looked unkept or swamped and provided a plethora of foods including some excellent yoghurt in little glass jars as well as a impressive selection of hot and cold food. Would we return....you bet as the hotel is central to most of the sights in Lisbon and right opposite the train station for trains to Sintra. We left for the short taxi ride to the airport and hour too early as Lisbon airport which was exceptionally busy, seemed able to cope with hordes of passengers until you get to your boarding gate where seats are at a minimum.

We loved it so much that we cancelled another reservation for our 5 night return to Lisbon and instead, stayed here again. The first room was a standard well appointed room, king bed, beautiful Marble bathroom. We returned to the Suite Castle View with majestic views of the S. Jorge Castle, illuminated with sunshine in the day, and lights at night. You step off of the street, that is closed to traffic and set up for dining, into a warm, cozy den like "lobby" that does not resemble a traditional concierge at all. Dark wood, red velvet chairs, plants all set the visual for the smoky Spotify playlist and walls filled with oversized, trendy books of people, places, objects. Staff is laid back & accommodating. The area would be considered touristy, but all of the streets are closed to traffic for blocks in every direction, giving the area the feeling of community with table after table and lovely burst of fire from the heaters. Rarely would we eat in a hotel, but their menu was great and food impressive. Twice we had breakfast which was hosted at their close other Browns Central and it was lovely. We loved it here, highly recommended. No where else we would have rather been after walking every inch of the area. We will not be returning to Lisbon so quickly, but if we did, it would be right back to Browns Boutique.

One evening while resting before going back out for dinner, I had the terrace doors open & could hear a violinist playing Ava Maria from the street below while a woman sang softly along with him. It was so incredibly beautiful. The hotel is centrally located & easy to get around. There were lots of shops, restaurants & gelato stands just steps from the hotel. It was lively but not overwhelming & quiet by bed time. I'd stay here again & recommend it highly!

This means at certain times of the day, the lobby or the breakfast area is an absolute zoo and pure chaos. They are a 5 stars level with a 4 to 4.5 stars experience depending on time of day. Their elevator is modernized, pre-scan with room card, and assigned an elevator. Some visitors simply take a longer time to understand how it works. One can get stuck behind a group and wait forever for an elevator. Other than that, we had a genuinely excellent stay. The room is comfortably sized and set up well. We were on the 17th floor with a skyline view. Pockets of the hotel are particularly pretty. My favorite is the back garden area. There are places to get a drink or simply visit. Breakfast can be chaotic when a tour group(s) is also there, but they manage well. The food choices are abundant; the cut fruits such as papaya were ripe and delicious. Coffee and drinks are delivered to the table. The location is good but not great. It is near a train station and a grocery store. Several restaurants are within easy walking distance, though not many. More options are a 20 minutes' walk away. Taking an uber is easier.
