Kind of a cross between the stereotypical great-grandfather's study, Hogwarts, and with just a touch of an old Western saloon, it's a funky sort of antiquated modern that catches one's interest and is great for people watching. The drinks!! *drool* We came here for cocktails having heard that they really put work into them - did not disappoint! My date got a hand-smoked whiskey cocktail which seemed to be pretty popular and even I liked (and I'm not a whiskey fan). I got a s'mores cocktail which had cake crumbs around the rim and tiny roasted marshmallows on a toothpick, was delicious and generated quite the buzz ;) I will absolutely be coming back, the atmosphere was buzzing but not overwhelming, drink selection tremendous, quality exquisite, staff efficient and engaged/engaging! read more

Peruke & Periwig is a gem. I adore this place. The decor is so charming and I enjoyed every moment of dinner and drinks. The drink list is very extensive and so many amazing choices, my husband and I couldn't choose so we ended up getting multiple drinks each. The key lime pie drink was my favorite and my husbands favorite was the smoked whiskey drink...not sure what it was called. The dinner was delicious. We had the whipped chicken livers, patatas bravas, and duck. Everything was very good especially the liver. We also came back for drinks downstairs on our last night in Dublin so I could get one more key lime pie cocktail---so warm and cozy with dim candlelit rooms. This place gets Five Stars as a Bar & Lounge for me, however I visited on a quite Monday around lunchtime so I am yet to experience it's nighttime vibe. I'm also yet to try its food offerings apart from scrumptious crispy pepper bar snacks that were addictive. What I have tried are their cocktails and as cocktails go this baby sister to the Vintage Cocktail Club and The Liquor Rooms amongst others knows how to mix them ingredients! The decor is fantastically old worldly with excellent features of wigs ... Who've guessed!, antique paintings and furniture. The staff are friendly and attentive. It's charming and I look forward to returning to sample the food menu and more cocktails. :) read more

On hearing it does beef dipped sandwiches and being a big "man vs food" fan, I wanted to visit this place for a couple of weeks. So Sunday afternoon on a hungry whim, my boyfriend and I paid a visit. First thing that struck me was the very opulent 17/18th century decor with portraits everywhere. Really beautifully done, I felt like we were transported to a gentry townhouse. I pretty much wanted to order everything off the menu. Thanks to a very pleasant waiter, we decided on the salted beef and beef dipped sandwiches. Both were really divine and very reasonable at around €11 each. They were both served with skinny shoestring fries, that were so crisp and perfect. For dessert, I really recommend the panna cotta. It came served in a glass, super creamy with vanilla bean ice cream, caramel sauce and pecans....heaven!! With two perfectly mixed cocktails and sparkling water thrown in, the bill came to just under €60. I can't wait to return. read more

Quite recently (last month) I booked a table here for an intimate birthday dinner with my partner in crime and cocktails. The manager was very accommodating and lovely, and even asked us for feedback on the place as it had only recently opened. The cocktails and table service were A+ and for this alone I would give it five stars. If I had to take away a half a star, it would be for the food, which I think is priced a wee bit on the high side for what it is. My mustachio'd companion ordered the lamb main, and I ordered the steak. It was tasty, well prepared but not *amazing* and not the kind of dinner that sticks in your mind as incredibly memorable. The atmosphere is lovely, the pub downstairs is all gaslit effect, dark wood and oozing with ambiance; the first floor, where we were seated, was like an almost too well lit Parisian absinth den (damn health and safety and the need for anything other than the occasional gas light and candle!) but none the less wonderfully intimate. The upstairs has only a handful of tables and is table service only so, delightfully, there was no jostling. The feedback we both gave was that the lighting could do with some work, and little lamps on the tables would go a long way to creating an even better atmosphere. There was also a roaring fire which, when next winter rolls around, will be a big plus. This is very much the kind of joint I love (with my slightly eccentric pre-1950s dress-up sensibilities, I felt right at home) but it was also filled with a relaxed after work and out on the town crowd. On occassion even the Irish need a break from beer, and when you do, let me suggest Peruke & Periwig. Done up like the wigmaker's shop it's named for, P&P is the kind of place you take your date to when you want to impress them, your friends to when you want to celebrate or just discuss Sarte, or your significant other when you want to whisper sweet nothings at a corner table. There is a full, sit-down restaurant in the back, but my experience only concerns the front/bar room. Based on the chatter about the bar you'd think everyone was a local. Maybe they were, but even if not it feels the kind of place you could instantly be at home in. P&P feels like it's lit by dim gaslight, and provides an atmosphere at once casual, upscale, and romantic. And then there's the drinks. Even if you're sick of mixology at this point or just really against paying 15 euro for a cocktail, throw down for at least one drink here. I asked for the bartenders advice since I was torn between one Edwardian sounding drink and another, and he immediately insisted upon the Nom de Plume. Always trust your bartender, this pink and frothy drink was just the right about sweet with real hints of the roses that adorned the foam. It may look frilly, but my male companion enjoyed it as much as I did and I'd challenge anyone to say it wasn't delicious. I only wish I could have tried more, but alas the last train of the night was arriving just as we left the bar. I tell you though, it was worth having to run to have been able to stop in here! Five stars for cocktails, service, and ambiance, minus one for the high prices. And just in case none of this caught your fancy, they do in fact have a quality selection of beers (well priced esp in relation to the cocktails). read more

Quirky little place but don't be deceived as there is an upstairs. Standard draft selection from what I could see but I assume wine and cocktails are the main stay. The ambience is as stated above quirky with wigs abound. Seating is compact but comfortable and the candlelight makes for an intimate setting. If you have a question or wish, they will support you. The menus offers special cocktails... Well on the first blink of the eye... If you look a bit more to the detail, you will find out that they are quite common with special names... And prices. A small Mai Tai costs 12,- Euro. It tastes good but is not very special. I hadn't had anything to eat because it is expensive. What I saw at the table right next to me looked good, but compared to the price, too less. My boyfriend and I went here for a few drinks for my birthday on Wednesday evening. I love cocktails so I was on a mission to have the best. I had the 'Walking Dead' which came with a flaming lime (!) followed by the 'Invisible Iced Tea' while he enjoyed the fine whiskey selection on offer. We also sampled some bar snacks - we shared the Crispy Pickled Red Peppers with House Ranch Dip and the Cerignola Olive Selection. I love love love sweet red peppers and these were to die for. Wonderful Cocktails and Whiskeys in the same establishment is our idea of heaven on earth. We had a very nice time and we will be back. read more

We walked by this bar this morning and decided we needed to come back tonight -- it was definitely worth it! The menu is full of wonderful little details and the drinks are creative takes on some of the classics. We tried their mezcal margarita drink and it was well worth it. Price wise, this is comparable to a craft cocktail bar in New York (which is on the more expensive side). There are 3 floors for seating, each with its own bar and bartender. One of my favorite places in Dublin! It's a really nice place on Dawson street. They have a very old school look. The couches look as if they're in your family's living room. The upstairs has a nice view into the restaurants on Dawson st, and the light is merely candle lights as well as street lights. They also have very vintage decorations and paintings. I have only tried one item on their menu, which is the chicken and the mashed potatoes. It is absolutely heavenly. Their cocktail selection is so good. They have renamed the usual cocktails and add their own twist to it. They burn your cocktail as they serve it, or they do something cool with it, and they're all so good! If you go with a friend, make sure it's either a date or that they know this is a very date-friendly place. The first time I went, I was with a guy friend of mine who thought we were going to a casual dinner, and I had to explain why we were having drinks and dinner over candle light.... read more

Went here Saturday night for a bite to eat. First impressions were great with a small busy and lively bar downstairs. G&T's were spot on although the service was a little slow. We were early so let them know we were there, once the table was read we were brought up to the first floor and sown our table. This is where things started to go downhill. Our table was in the corner wedged between an empty table behind us and inside a table that another couple were sitting at. It felt like we were sitting with them and we asked about the vacant tables but were told they were reserved. Fair enough so we carried on and I'll revisit the table scenario later. We finished our G&Ts, we were eventually asked if we would like to order food which we did. we were not offered drinks or wine and had to ask for a wine list. Ordered a bottle of red and had to ask a second time for it as it too forever. We were glad we ordered a bar food snack of fried red peppers which were very good as the starters and main took ages to arrive. Starters were OK but nothing extraordinary, I had ordered the burger as i was told it was excellent. The mains eventually arrived and the burger was over cooked and cool - not cold but just lukewarm. At this stage I was getting annoyed. The waiter was continuously having to hand food into us over our new found friends beside us and I was fed up waiting. My date had the monkfish and that was good but had I sent the burger back it could have been another 30mins while she ate and I looked on so I said nothing and just let the waiter know at the end of the night. Desert was no better with a huge delay again, wine finished and no offer of another drink, water was never offered either. Back to the table situation, the table behinds us had people arrive, have a drink or two and leave with more arrive after. The couple next to us were lovely - she sent back a sauce as it was cold (impossible not to overhear). The table adjacent to them remained empty all night and the next two tables closest to the window had some ladies arrive. The decor and vibe is cool but it's a place that does not seem to know what it is trying to be. Tables are crammed in and good for drinking but not for eating. We played pass the parcel all night with plates, cutlery, napkins etc when it was completely unnecessary. I'd go back to have a few drinks and maybe bar food but I'd avoid for a romantic meal which is a shame as the intimate layout, candles, décor and quirkiness etc lend itself to that type of place. Could be great if they figure out what they are trying to do. read more

This gem in a 400 year old home owned long ago by a wig maker is perhaps our best find in Dublin. Close to everything this small bar and restaurant has maybe a bar that fits six or seven with small tables and seating for twenty at most. The bartender is a real professional and makes the best looking drinks. The decor is fabulous, soft lighting, paintings and wigs that took me to another world. My wife and I and five other great friends started with drinks at the bar downstairs and then went up stairs to get something to eat, it got even better. The decoration and atmosphere was artful and all the people over the top friendly. We had appetizers that were incredible and the rest of the menu looked great. I was so surprised that such a small place could afford not just a great cook but an artist in the presentation of the dishes. This is a place you cannot miss, I know I won't. read more

I was charged with finding us some dinner and had a cab drop us off on this street. However, I couldn't find the place I was looking for so we wandered into Peruke & Periwig. Pretty good accident I'd say. So downstairs felt like a pub, but they took us upstairs for seating. This is when I had a little of a gasp and my parents were like where are you taking us? It is very ornately decorated like a 18th century parlor complete with red velvet and portraits on the wall. It was exceeeeedingly quiet when we first got up there as there was just a couple drinking wine up there and us. It did fill in later though. Our waiter came by with the drink and food menu. Oh my gosh, the drink menu. They have A through Z of drinks with names like "Attitude Adjustment", "Daisy Dukes", and "Zed's Dead". I read the entire menu just for fun. They also had wine and beer, and the wine pour was very decent so I was a happy camper. The food menu included fish, steak, chicken, and lamb options as well as a burger. On the weekend they have a roast, so you can pencil that in for the weekend too. For a starter I ordered the wild mushroom risotto balls with spinach and poached quail egg. I thought this starter was awesome - I do love balls and these were especially tasty with the quail egg yolk running all over them. (hehe) For dinner I had the strip loin steak with bearnaise served with green beans and shoestring fries. While the steak was a little over medium rare, it was still tasty. The fries were shoestring but weren't as crunchy as I like them. I like them really, really crunchy so if you don't then you are going to like these fine. The facilities are up on the top floor, it is quite a fun adventure to go up the other levels to get there. This is a big building! Other random note: this place had wifi so I could check in with email and twitter and all that in between ordering and dinner. Definitely give this place a try if you are in the neighborhood and want to eat and try fun cocktails. read more

We were here on a quiet Tuesday night in Dublin - the streets were dead. We had been or for early dinner and wanted a cocktail. We opted for the first floor room which is gorgeous. Our barman S very friendly and chatty. I opted for a whisky cocktail - a tea infused Jameson whisky was used - which I really liked. My friend had a smoked drink which he seemed to enjoy. It's a good spot for a drink if you fancy something unusual. It's expensive enough-our drinks were €25 plus tip. However they do offer bespoke cocktails and slowly ambiance. It was quiet in our floor but busy in the bar on the main floor when we left at 10. The only negative I would say was that there was a few tables that had food plates etc on them when we say down - obviously people had left - and they were like this for the best part of an hour. I thought it was odd to leave the tables dirty like that when it was so quiet. However our barman was very chatty and informative and the cocktails are great. I love Harry Potter so the staircase and old world charm in here did it for me. Supposedly it was an old wig shop back in the day and downstairs if you look up, there is a pretty cool display of old wigs. We sat upstairs in Victorian decor heaven, I was in my element. The cocktails at €12 a pop seem expensive but take your time- this isn't your average cocktail bar- it's an experience. The staff really know their stuff so if you are intimated by the extensive menu ask for some guidance they are more than happy to help. Had a gander at the food menus which look really promising, will be back for food and more cocktails; have been dreaming about them since I left. read more

Oh my Gosh!!!!!!! We stumbled upon this place out of sheer luck, and what a lucky night indeed! It was completely packed but we decided to give it a shot anyway, and we were bloody right. First, the place looks super awesome, with all sorts of accessories, and a great feel to the room. The price: not cheap, but well worth what you get. The service: ok, I guess, I did not get to have any interaction with the waiter, as I was not the one ordering (at the bar). As I mentioned earlier, the place was packed, but the customers were super nice: we were offered to share a bench with another couple. Finally, the cocktails!!! I chose one with cucumber in it - I freaking love cucumber cocktails. It was one of the greatest I ever tasted. And apparently the rest of the cocktail menu is as good. I came into Ireland day 1 and stumbled upon this bar, the male bartender (evening 12 July 2019) was making a drink, I asked for the same thing and he laughed in my face- said it's a Guinness (it was a cocktail), he continued making other drinks so I waited patiently for him to have time to make my order; instead he took the people behind me's order. While I continued to wait he suddenly staring yelling at me belting out, "what the hell do you want?! I've asked you a million times and you're just sitting there with a shit look on your face!" ... number one he never asked me for any order besides the one he refused, and number two I just thought he was busy and would get back to me and I didn't want to interrupt him. It was the rudest service I encountered in all of my travels period. I would not recommend coming here at all. If you want to get screamed at for trying to order a over priced drink then that's the right place. Oh yeah, we walked out and took our drink/tip money with us to a different location where the bartenders were exceptional. read more

My partner had been to Peruke & Periwig recently for lunch and commented on the unique interior decor, delicious well priced food and intimate atmosphere with such enthusiasm that we decided to pay a visit tonight for their dinner service. We sat down for dinner at around 7.30pm on the third floor of the restaurant, which was completely empty apart from us at this point in the evening. We took our seats in the corner and relished the atmosphere of the cozy candle lit bookshelf lined room. The service was standard - we ordered a meal and two beers and they were delivered to us in moderate time. Food was lovely, but overpriced at 20 euros for a tart and the same for beef dish. No complaints on the food side of things at Periwig. After we had finished the meal our plates were taken away and we were asked if we wanted desert, which we declined. We wanted to just sit in the quiet surroundings and enjoy conversation and beer without much ado. The room was still empty apart from us. After our food was taken away we were given the bill about a minute later, without being asked if we were finished. It felt like the servers were trying to get us to move on as we were not buying any more food or drinks from them. I have been a server before in a restaurant, and it is considered very rude to push your customers on when they are trying to enjoy themselves over a drink and conversation after paying for a expensive dinner out. We felt like a hindrance, even though there STILL was no one apart from us in the 8 or so table third level. After trying to ignore the feeling of being a hindrance to the servers, we got back to our drinks. But then another couple came into the room and were sat right next to us (extremely close) in the corner of the otherwise empty room. The other couple seemed confused by this move, and promptly told the waiters that they wanted to move tables to the other side of the room to have more breathing room, which they did so. Obviously some tables would be reserved on a Friday night, but it is offputting to be so close to other diners in an empty quiet room and goes against what the intimate atmosphere that the restaurant wants to achieve. Finally, we decided to swig the rest of our beers and 'move on' from the restaurant. We left our tip on the table and put on our coats before starting to walk out the room. Both the servers were behind the bar talking to each other and did not acknowledge us leaving in any form, even when my partner said 'thank you' and 'goodbye' to them, to which no response was given. It felt like we were being snubbed. After paying for the dinner we should have been delivered better service, specially when we were the only customers for the majority of our time there in that room. We left the building wishing we didn't leave a tip for the snobbish service. A very average experience in a beautiful building with lovely food. A customer should never leave a restaurant feeling like a hindrance. read more

Another bar from the people who brought you the VCC and the Liquor Rooms. This time the pastiche is 18th Century tavern/town house. The ground floor hosts the pub area, which is decked out like a Georgian gin house, with wood panelling, tiles, and oil portraits. Upstairs is like Madame Pompadours boudoir, all reds and golds and velvet. They serve cocktails on the slightly pricier side (12-14), pints, wine and food. If you like their sister bars, you're going to like this place. The staff are friendly, the cocktails are potent and the decor is incredibly decadent. There also looks like there is a lot more space, as it takes up the entire building (bathrooms are on the top floor!). read more

Hands down one of the best bars I've entered. Adam was our server and he also invented some of the drinks on the menu. He was very personable and knowledgeable with the menu and made great suggestions. The music is this place was amazing! It is also good to note that the menu does change but this season the drinks are named after songs and divided by liquor types with varying music genre titles. The setting is dark and casual, candles on every table, and the place was filled with lots of laughter. I will definitely return! read more

I don't think I could love this place anymore. When you walk through the door, it's like you've been transported back to the wild west days. They have the friendliest and most talented bar staff, not to mention a key ingredient, whiskey! They have an outstanding drinks menu that has been put together by their lovely bar staff for drinkers of all different sprits, not only whiskey. I have nearly been through the menu and the drinks remind me of cakes and sweets from my childhood.They make a mean old fashioned and a key lime martini. Yowza. None of their drinks are average. Their drinks sizzle and smoke or have been torched (yes, with a blow torch) so when you think of the price, roughly 12 euro per cocktail, it makes sense for the effort and time that is painstakingly put in to each delightful drinks. It has now become my go to place for either starting the night or a night cap when heading into town! I just found out they serve food and cannot wait to go back to check it out. read more

Nit picking, I'd change the bread: when toasted, this leaves a dusty mouth feel. There are better breads, with less shortening. Wash it down with a Five Lamps ale and you'll be well set for the afternoon. It was quiet and several passers-by stuck their face to the door, then walked on by.
