I scheduled an appt and he didnt show up the day of because I didnt answer his call when he tried confirming about an hour before the appt. I would assume you confirm your schedule at least a day before. My phone was on silent and i missed the call and when I realized it was past appt time, I checked and had a missed call . Strike 1. We rescheduled as he explained they get burned and need to confirm appt (ok, maybe do the day before). He did show at the next appt during our scheduled appt time, measures a few windows and I had to track down quote because he forgot to send. I finally tried to order and he lost the invoice, which i resent him, then I was ghosted. I wanted to try and love, but didnt even get the chance. On to a more responsive, organized company I guess.

Bob (co-owner with wife Lizzie) came out personally for the first assessment. We really didn't know the difference between blinds, shades, shutters, etc, but he brought us catalogs and we recognized shutters as the "window treatments" we liked best having stayed in air-bnbs. Turns out we have great taste, because this is NOT the cheapest way to go, but they worked with us on the cost so we could get what we wanted without breaking our budget. Now that the shutters are installed, I'm so glad we were able to make it happen. Our home looks completely transformed. The turn-around time was most impressive. A co-worker told me we might have to wait 2-3 months for shutters to be manufactured. We also recently replaced our windows and didn't want to re-hang the old blinds. Express Blinds had custom shutters made for 18 windows, a sliding door, and a half-circle window in 3 weeks! We worked with Linda to arrange for the installation to follow within a week of the window installation. She too is top-notch professional. She waited on me to get her a target date based on windows, then arranged for the installation to come less than a week later. She even called the afternoon before to tell me exactly when they would arrive. They arrived on time and completed the entire job in a single day. This was as stress free as a home-improvement project can be; we highly recommend Express Blinds!

He promptly generated a quote the same day, answered several questions about it, etc. He communicated clearly about when to expect it to arrive and worked to find a good time to install it. Installation was fairly quick and professional, cleaned up and job looks solid. Presumably will hold up over time. Price was very fair and if I needed another window replaced he'd be first on my list to call.

However, there were some finish items that he did not do, caulk around the exterior flange, install screen door top guides to keep screen stable in the track, or install upper strike plate. Stainless steel mounting screws are visible and not driven all the way in, glazing beads were poorly mitered so there are large gaps. The door works well but I now need to complete this finish work so it looks like a professional installation. He has offered to come back to fix, but it's more work for me to coordinate than to just do myself. John framed in a new window and cut a new hole in the stucco for me. The framing he did was totally noncompliant with IRC nailing requirements and would not pass any sort of inspection and would be unsafe if not fixed. He has returned at no cost to fix the issues as best as he could, but it caused me a lot of time to inspect and identify these problems and made me skeptical of the longevity of this work. Because the window was a time and material job he charged his hours, which he starts when he begins loading his truck until he unloads his truck at his shop...this was an additional 2 hrs, and was not clearly stated, as the contract says 'labor' is charged by the hour, and driving/mobilization is not typically labor. This is basically a fee just for showing up. Overall I feel that John is very nice and has good consulting and recommendations, and he has offered to make more return trips to correct the worksmanship issues, but he is not transparent in his charges. His work is mostly functional but unsatisfactory when you consider the high hourly cost. It is unacceptable to me that me as a homeowner has to read framing standards and consult other contractors in order to understand his framing deficiencies. I hired John on a recommendation from Simonton doors and because the other reviews spoke to his high skill level and knowledge of standards. Unfortunately, that is not what I feel I got in my case.

He states in his voicemail that he won't listen to messages so he asks that you text him instead. So that's exactly what I did. He has yet to respond to me and that was about 2 weeks ago. So yes, the customer service will be great until they get your money and then they're done with you. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. Find someone or a company that cares about their customers even after the fact that they received payment.
