This review is just for the online experience from Persnickety Prints. I had heard about Persnickety Prints from various bloggers when they wrote about how they printed out large 12x12 prints for scrapbooking. This year I had committed to digital scrapbooking (through Project Life) in order to save me time and effort so I needed to find a good printing service to print out my pages. I researched the cost of photo books compared to individual prints, as well as the "style" I was going for. I decided in the end that I didn't want multiple photo books for a year's worth of Project Life pages so I opted for individual prints that will later be inserted into page protectors and kept into one large binder. Persnickety Prints offered the lowest price of 12x12 prints, at $1.99 per print. I printed out about 33 images, and while it wasn't cheap (and this was only for the months of January - March), I could not be more happy with the quality of the prints. The prints came in a well-packaged box and none of them were too curled. The colors were vibrant and everything came out so beautifully. I found that the website uploading method to be very simple and quick. Shipping was also incredibly fast. On orders of $39+, use the promo code "priceless" for free US shipping. I wanted to do something special for our anniversary (paper) and decided to get a bunch of photos made as part of a larger surprise project at my boyfriend's place. Originally I'd planned on going with their retro prints but decided on some slightly bigger 4x4 ones instead. Since the service advertises that orders can be easily placed through your cell phone, I thought it would be a piece of cake to quickly knock out an order with plenty of time before actually needing them... Well that wasn't actually the case, and this is my only con: the usability of the mobile version of this site does need some UX improvements. Trying to upload from Dropbox allows only one photo at a time. After about the 5th, I stopped in frustration.. Then I saw they allowed uploads from a social media platform, such as Instagram. Great! But then after uploading, I realized the photos proofs on screen looked really blurry; poor quality. Worried that it would also look that bad in real life, I ended up creating a photo album on my phone specifically for the photo bundle, and uploaded that. First try: an error message that wouldn't allow me to x out. So then I closed and reopened the site. Then I tried deleting the Instagram album, which it apparently does not do; A pop up box opens the way other album edit options do, but it does not allow for a 'confirm' delete. The second time I tried uploading my new phone's album: PERFECT! By that point, a few days had passed. I can be a bit stubborn.. Now here is why I gave this 4 out of 5 stars: upon placing my order, I mentioned in the notes section that this was for an anniversary gift and that I needed it in hand by a particular day. I also mentioned that I would be happy to pay for any rush shipping. They emailed me within the hour to let me know they'd be starting on it asap. The following afternoon, I received a phone call from the shipping department letting me know it was ready to ship. It turned out that their shipping to Seattle was priory anyway, and since I was a first time customer, it was free. It was scheduled to arrive by the date I requested. You can imagine my surprise then when I received the package a day earlier than expected! When I opened the box up, there was a red "RUSH!" stamp on it and also hand signed thank you note from their customer service. The photos themselves looked even better than anticipated. I was very impressed! The UX issues, though frustrating, can be fixed with time. In the meantime, they do have a customer service chat line that can be called with questions. The fact that they have such awesome staff and a really great product is really what did it for me. Now that I know how to get around the bugs, I will be a repeat customer. As hoped, I had plenty of time to gather the other things I needed to complete the project. The photos of all the things we'd done this past year filled his entire bedroom! My major was photography and helped photography students at OCC photo lab (OCC is one of the best photo schools in this country). I tested and used various chemicals, films (both color and black&white - especially black&white) and papers. I processed both films and papers in the dark rooms day and night back then. So I do understand photography a lot more than usual. Yelp lets me use my full talents - my love of food, photography, and writing - no wonder my pictures look good ;p *********************** - Locale Destination - They're located in Utah, but I found them on google. Despite of the recent popularity for square format digital photography (by iphone, hipstamatic, instagram etc.), it's hard to find a professional printer that prints square format and does it well. Many photo apps offer the printing options, but they don't always offer the professional grade printing quality (color reproduction and paper quality). One of my photo teachers (his speciality is color and digital photography) has a photo lab (photomation.com) - mostly for commercial, where they are capable of printing even a billboard size. I asked him to print my iphone pictures but he said 3x3 or 4x4 were too small for his printers. It wasn't the first time for the rejection, which is kinda normal. I tried "Hipsta" lab - it was 50/50 shots - some really good, some not. I also tried several professional printers locally before, but it was a pain in the ass (though the prints came out nicely) and I could do only small amounts. But this place makes the printing so easy! All you need to do is to connect to your instagram or upload your files to their site. They keep the files (free) on your account, so you don't need to reload them if you decided to reprint them more. From iphoto (Mac users - I'm not sure PC has it. I'm a Mac user) : 1) Download "Lifepics" (free) on their website. 2) Pick the images on iphoto 3) Choose File - Export on the top bar on your Mac 4) Sign in to your account (email and password of their site) 5) It'll show you what you picked. So hit the "Export". 6) On their site, you pick the images, size, print type, and quantity. 7) Pay by credit card or paypal 8) They'll ship it right away (literally)! $5 flat shipping rate and standard takes 2 days. Their website is a bit confusing and mess. I wish they could make it more organized. They're a professional printer. They're a very good one and guarantee the print quality. If you didn't like it, you ship them back to them with the detailed reasons, and reprint for you (for free!) I didn't like 30+ prints out of 140+, which wasn't bad ratio from my past experience. They explained to me the differences on 3x3 matte card and 4x4 photo paper by email and reprinted them all for 4x4 (for free!). They're unbelievable! Great customer service!! I'm so happy with the photo paper quality - the colors are more intense, more details in the highlight, more contrasts than 3x3 matte card. Some of them tuned out a bit too dark, but big differences from the first time! They also print regular formats, but I only use iphone for my photography and heavy user of "hipstamatic". So my digital photography is square format. I have a DSLR, yet iphone and phone apps made me not even open the box ;p I shoot and edit only with iphone. How amazing what digital photography could offer. Some tips: Square format print size: 2x2 to 40x40. They even have a cool "polaroid" type printing and posters (making a collage). Paper kinds: the standard is matte. They also have pearl and soft texture art for extra $. Glossy is not so forgiven and leave finger prints on print so easily, so it totally makes sense. "Instagram Print": You don't need to use instagram - it just means "square format". It uses "card", not a photo paper. It's a little thicker than photo paper. The printing quality isn't bad, but less color reproduction capability compared to "Photographic Print". Some came out good - simpler images work better on this. Too contrasty or too light (soft contrast) images won't work on this since you lose lots of contrast. It's cool anyway. "Photographic Print": It uses a photo paper. It has a great quality, though I thought 4x4 was too big: smaller print size has a better resolution and crispier look than bigger print (unless you have a big file size to begin with). Since my file was dealt on iphone, the file size isn't big (which means not so good resolution to start with). It turned out great! I might try 5x5 but I assume that would be the max.. Unhappy print: you need to contact them within 24-48 hours. They'll reprint for you. - Conqueror's Deduction - It'll b my place to print square format - great for iPhone photographers!! Ugh! I wanted to support a different company with my Christmas cards this year. I ordered my Christmas cards through Persnickety Prints and they were printed on the wrong paper. No big deal so I called and spoke with Brian in customer service. What should have been a very simple "I am so so sorry. We will reprint your order and overnight them" turned into a back and forth with Brian's lack of sincerity and professionalism being astonishing. He acted like it was no big deal that my Christmas cards were wrong. He even said "this never happens" - well it happened to me. I then had to email him a picture of my incorrect card and had to call again because I never heard back from him. Whyyyyy do I have to jump through hoops just to get a mistake on their part fixed! I wasn't asking for a refund or even asking for my $5 shipping to be waived. I just wanted my cards printed correctly! Good luck and ask for someone other than Brian in customer service. He didn't even say "I apologize " on the 3rd phone call. They lost my business - I will not be using them in the future. read more

I've been a devoted user of Persnickety Prints for a while now. I use them for all prints in my etsy shop, our family photos, Christmas cards, etc. and no other place compares. The quality and clarity you get for the price is fantastic. We recently moved to Austin so now I have them ship prints and it's a flat $5 rate no matter how many prints I order. They also ship incredibly fast. Before our move, going into the store to pick up my prints was always a pleasant experience; nice people, cool vibe. On smaller orders like mine they were always ready within a few hours (or less) after I had placed my order. The online ordering system has come a long way, and while it still needs some work, once you figure it out it's fine. I love that I can upload my photos and have them stored FREE. This company is wonderful. I had been searching for months for someone to print copies of my 12 x 12 scrapbook pages. A scanner for this purpose does not exist, so I had to photograph each page, pull them up on my computer in Photoshop and send them to Persnickety Prints. I asked him to send me a sample of one of the pages so I could see what it looked like. After receiving the information, they immediately texted me a picture, then called me to let me know of some small imperfections. They guided me through the process of how to pull up the pictures on my computer to make them the proper resolution, which I had no clue how to do beforehand. They were concerned about the quality, which was so refreshing that somebody actually cared about what they were doing. I decided to go ahead and just have them print them as they were instead of spending three days going through the process again. While they were not perfect, by absolutely no fault of Persnickety Prints, the copies came out exactly as I had hoped for. Their prices are amazing! I wish I had something good to say but I don't. I called ahead to see if they do a certain size print the lady said yes and to come in and they'd get the order in. Later that day I went in and the lady at the front was so rude, she told me they don't do In store orders which I fine I understand (annoying though since the lady on the phone told me I could come in and order). The lady at the front told me I'd have to order it online, but when she denied me help to figure out the online process I was frustrated. She told me to "figure it out" and that it's not hard. She said if I couldn't figure it out on my own then to look it up on YouTube. I said since I'm here can't you just guide me through the process and she said no and told me again to do it myself. Horrible customer service. I have ordered 4x3 and 3x4( in retro) pictures on their website. After submitting order all pictures merged. I emailed to Aubrey asking to check it out. The order came on time, but to my surprise I got tiny photos on 4x3 card. The person on the phone did not even try to help me. Their website says 100% satisfaction guarantee. REALLY? I am overly impressed!!! I have heard good things about this company, but had never used them, mainly because they were priced higher than other companies. What in the world was I thinking?!?!? I placed my Christmas card order on Wednesday night & received them on Saturday with regular shipping! The quality is like NO OTHER company I have ever used!!! I LOVE THESE GUYS!!! Shipping only costs 5 bucks for I don't know what the limit is!!! SO that is great!! I ordered 18 prints last night and shipping was STILL 5 bucks. I am going to try to order like 25 prints (12 x 12) next time and see if it is still 5 bucks for shipping. PLUS the prints for 12x12 matte and/or glossy is ONLY $1.99!! REALLY?? Honestly have not been happy with my last 3 orders. My Christmas cards came back very dark with a green tint to them, they were really great about reprinting them all and fixing them. So recently I needed to print some 12x12s out and like my photos pretty bright, so I edited them the exposure to be much lighter. I got my photos back and every single one of them were dark and green. My son looked sick in his and even a bruise on his forehead showed up which didn't show before. The image was sharp and clear which I was happy with, but the paper was very thin and bent in the frame. Even after I put them in my frames, my husband (who knows nothing about photography or prints) said, "Woah those are dark". I am going to have to print somewhere else. I don't like going to a printing place where I can not trust that my order is going to come out okay, and having to complain and reprint. read more

I've been using Persnickety Prints for a few years now but this passed week when my grandma passed away, I gathered some pictures that I needed printed for her memorial that would be 5 days later. I created my first order and put it through then realized I forgot one of my favorite pictures of her and my grandpa so I quickly placed another order. I called them to let them know that I placed two orders back to back and then wanted to ask how I go about getting the photos delivered quicker than usual. I have mixed results with Persnickety prints, in this case through online ordering. My first order, which was a test of some 4x4 prints for a scrapbook printed, shipped and arrived in a timely manner. The print quality was good, though I could argue that the snapfish "deco prints" when available were of better quality. I decided to use them again a week later and this is where the problem arose. I needed the order for an event in 12 days, which given the shipment time before seemed more than reasonable. The photos shipped within 12 hours, but after 11 days my order still had not arrived. Tracking was no longer updating and I contacted Persnickety for some action. I requested that the order be reprinted and sent next day to me at a hotel where I would be staying for the weekend. I needed them urgently. While they did reprint the order quickly, the service person elected for 2-3 day USPS shipping and told me "hopefully they will pull through for us this time" to save $20. That timeline will schedule arrival on the day I depart. When I asked what would happen if I had departed the hotel before the item arrived, they told me it was up to me how I handled the non-receipt again. I am very disappointed that Persnickety elected to not make this situation right, and take action to fix the issue. I will not be a return customer after this. read more

David called me and explained that the photo (a picture created in Paper on an iPad) would look pixelated if it were blown up as big as I wanted it, so he worked with it to make it as large as possible but still look clear. I was a bit disappointed the last time I used them because there was a limit on the size of the image I could upload, so I sized it down, and then of course it was pixelated when I picked it up. I decided to give them another chance but I couldn't even get through the ordering process because their site is so jacked. Error after error when trying to add prints to my cart. Not to mention it wouldn't allow me to select pick-up even though their store is literally 5 minutes from my house. And WHY does it first say that wallet prints are 2.5x3, then when you adjust the number of prints you want it says the size is 3.5x5, then in your cart it says 5x5??? I gave up. I won't use them again, I'd rather pay more and save myself the frustration. read more
