    Such a cute place!

Absolutely amazing book store! The $25 basket sale, designed to clear out some of their inventory, is brilliant. We spent over two hours exploring. The espresso bar is a nice touch to the space, and the barista was friendly! I found tons of books I'd been looking for. There were a bunch of books not included in the basket sale but they were clearly marked. I still bought some of those anyway! I can't wait to go back!

This used bookstore in downtown Burlington is simply perfect. I wish I lived closer. It has tons and tons of used books, but is not overwhelming. Everything is neatly organized into areas by theme. There are comfortable chairs and tables, nooks, reading areas, and privacy cubicles. There is a community space upstairs with printers and other office necessities, and we must not forget the mirror ball and huge arched window letting in the natural light. The entire store has eclectic touches and artwork to discover. There are three floors of books, and a charming kids area for young readers. The sign and exterior window displays are exquisite. Anything with a cat has got me already though. This is a nice environment because the staff lets you be, yet is extremely friendly when you approach the front counter for payment or questions. I love the gifts, homemade cards, and origami creations throughout the store as well.

The selection of was out of this world with the variation of items. I was in the book selection for at least an hour. I will admit that I was taken a back by some of the prices since the items are gently used. Be sure to plan spending some time at this place during your visit-it's worth it.

The store is massive and carries used books of every genre, as well as gently-loved puzzles, Funko characters, Squishmallows, toys, vinyl, movies, board games, CDs, video games, etc. It's a really fun place to browse and it has something for just about everyone. The store is organized pretty well considering how much inventory they have. My only complaint as a buyer is that most items are overpriced. For example, a used paperback copy of TJ Klune's House in Cerulean Sea is $17 and a lovely used puzzle I was looking at buying was $15. I would rather support McKay's than big-box stores or Amazon, but in this economy it is also hard to justify spending $5 - $10 more for a used version than I would a new one elsewhere. That being said, every now and then, I find a really good deal at McKay's. I purchased a paperback copy of Less by Andrew Sean Greer for 25 cents, which made my day. Selling books here can be slightly disheartening. I recently took in a stack of 18 books, including a popular hardcover which was being sold in the store for $17 at the time, and I only received $13 in store credit for the entire stack. I am not sure how this compares with other stores that buy used books, but in the future I will probably only sell items that I would have donated anyway so that any store credit, no matter how little, feels like a little bonus.

The building served as a feed-and-seed store, a record store and a used-appliance store. The bookstore opened in 2013, and its extensive renovation preserved the exposed brick walls and the high pressed-tin ceilings. They added hand-carved bookcases. The walls are olive green, and the original windows let in plenty of natural light. The store was named after the scuppernong grape, the North Carolina state fruit. The store's "fox and grape" motif, visible on its signs and literature, is also a nod to Aesop's fables. The bookstore is cozy and welcoming, with areas to lounge and even a seating bar at the front of the store. The bookstore carries new and used books, with a good variety. You will find banned books and many about social justice. The store has stood up to censorship. The genres are clearly marked, and it is easy to browse and shop. They even have staff picks with reviews. I like that North Carolina authors are featured. The store partners with other local businesses. The cafe has coffees, teas, wines and craft beers. They have pastries from Loaf Bakery and Swedebread. The sandwiches are from Jerusalem Market. The specialty teas come from Vida Pour Tea. Service here is welcoming, helpful and low-pressure. They let you browse without following you around so you can take your time and explore. I highly recommend visiting Scuppernogg Books if you are looking for a local business to support or just like visiting old buildings. In the digital age, it is so nice to connect with others and actually browse the shelf to find my next read. I loved the banned books, as I am always curious as to what they don't want me reading.

Not only can books be purchased in store which is my favorite way you're also able to go online and order for pickup or to your door. They have new , used , for children , adults , herbalism , fantasy ... you name it. There's seating near the coffee bar. However there is also seating in the back where the used books are where you can read, but they also host events that are on their website to support other local stores , artist , and authors.
