I love this store. They have such a great selection of books, cds, music and computer parts. Everything is well organized. You can get really good deals. You can find unique items and possible replacements for items that have discontinued. They had a good selection of Kpop items and kids toys. Their assembly line in the back is a fun thing to see. They have a whole operation for their intake. This is a cool spot and I love going.

Folks were helpful, great selection of books, records, cds, figures, and electronic items. Store was organized and maintained well. There was a lot of room on most isles to get by with a cart. I think overall the prices were fair. Got my son 10 cds for like $9! If I'm in the area, I'll definitely stop again!

This is a huge store! They have books, games, music and more. You can buy and sell here. After browsing around I purchased one book for $4. Great price for a book if you asks me! I didn't see any employee on the floor but the person who checked me out was cool.

Review is from the buyer perspective. Large, friendly, lots of customers, relatively organized with media, books, games, toys, old electronics. It is a physical media nerds dream here and you do feel like a kid walking in. My only issue is that things are priced to perfection or overpriced. There are no deals/steals here. For ex, Some Blu rays are $10-$15. Would come back because this place is fun and relatively new-ish

This facility is HUGE. Plenty of variety from pretty much anything you can think of. Nostalgic, vintage, or even some good/newer items that they have for sale. A vast offering of Funko Pops for sure - some fairly new, but mostly a lot that's been vaulted, so it's nice to see these pieces. Plenty of other toys, games, books, vinyl, electronics. The service has been really good as the selling process is pretty efficient and fast (I've gotten a quote/finish under and hour before) Only gripe is that I've been shopping here since its inception a few years ago and notice the price of funk pieces have gone up and not really of great value like it used to. Outside of that, highly recommend for a good browse.

These are the books I purchased. Only one book was over $1.50!!

The store is a wonderland of books, puzzles, games, and more. I was able to score six books for $9.61. The majority of the books I purchased were hardback so this was a great deal. Almost every other aisle has a category chart on the end that shows the location for that particular genre. The chart was helpful, but the problem that I had was not knowing how they categorized the books on my list. I wish they had a system that logged all of the inventory and I could type in an author and see what genre or category they'd fall into. I asked the guy at the register if there was a secret sauce to their coding to be able to better find books, but he seemed to have never heard the phrase secret sauce. I chose a different wording but he seemed a bit confused. Overall I spent about and hour and a half here before I got tired of trying to find books from my list and carrying my haul. I did try to exchange a text book but they rejected my trade. After lugging my books around I found out they had carts or you can just bring a tote bag of your own. Six books for under 10 dollars is a great value and I definitely have enough reading to last for a while. I look forward to returning to see what other gems I can find.

What an amazing upgrade! The new location is HUGE!! It's so bright, organized, spacious and clean! I like the new drop off for selling/trading and the setup. There was so much to look at and selection to choose from. I got some awesome deals and will definitely be back. Large parking lot and drop parking is available.

Who doesn't love a huge building full of books, right?! And that's exactly what you'll find here! What's lacking is a fair price on all of their books. I am a book of the month member and some of the book of the month selections are more than having the actual membership which makes absolutely zero sense to me. You will, however, find a bargain on lesser known authors. I thought how the books were split into categories was also confusing, I never could find historical fiction that I was looking for. They have a huge toy section but the stuffed animals were $20+ dollars so we skipped that. They also had a massive section of puzzles and did find out for our daughter for $7 which I thought was a fair price. Overall not really worth the prices, I'd rather stick to book of the month or a locally owned bookstore.

Underwhelming experience. Books were out of order. Some prices seem high. Not many hardbacks. Kind of Giant Thrift Store vibe. No place to sit. Trash in parking lot. What happened to Edward? Yet a lot of traffic coming through so a lot of folks are enjoying it. Located in Mebane.

We love McKay's in our family. This was our first time at the Mebane location and it didn't disappoint. If you're on a road trip on I40 highly recommend for a bathroom/ street break. They even have a great covered area with picnic tables and a spot to walk your dog. Once you're inside it's the best little treasure hunt for books, puzzles, games, vinyls, and a crazy collection of funko pops. Prices are great and they have absolutely every genre. Staff is friendly and it's incredibly clean.

We had seen their ad in a local paper and made a trip out to Mebane especially to visit them. The place is huge and has plenty of books, CDs and video games. As someone who frequents used CD sales at our library, I was happy that their used CDs are alphabetized (so much better than just rummaging). I ended up with several CD purchases and have recommended this place to others. I can't speak to what they pay out for books/CDs that you sell them but apparently that is another service here. Don't know when we'll be back, but we'll be back.

Wow, McKay's is quite a bit different than is was when it was located in the basement of Elizabeth's Pizza in Greensboro. The store is enormous and a fun place to go. Books, games, toys, and records. A great assortment of interesting things and a lot of it! Was really amazed at the size of the store and the vast array of offerings. A great store and fun place to visit.

Ive been to McKay's before in other places, but never this one. I didn't even know it was so close. Only a 30 minute drive from Durham! It was spacious and clean! You can also sell and trade items with them as well which is awesome. I love this place. Most of the old DVDs are around 95 cents, some are up to 4 dollars or 6 dollars. I didn't see anything above that but there might have been. I ended up buying 17 DVDs and 7 cds! I spent a lot of time so I didnt get to the book section but I will next time. Great place! Can't wait to go back.

My kid loaded up with books for summer reading.

Ask the Community - McKay's Mebane

Does this store offer CD/DVD/Blue ray restoration and if so how much?

    Highly doubt it

How are the books stacked on the shelves????By title or Authors genre ????? Somebody should be able to answer the above and answer please they are not picking up their phones?

Hi Jacy, Our fiction books are first sorted by genre, then loosely alphabetical by author (As are… Read more

Do they give cash for educational resource materials and books?

If we're able to take the book, you're typically offered a cash OR a credit offer (with the store credit always being higher). Items we sell at a bargain price typically only earn a little bit of store credit (no cash).

Do they give cash for children's books?

It depends. If the books meet their acceptance criteria or if they need them. I have found that they don't accept many paperback books in any category.

I loved Player's Choice. It was the quintessential local video game store. Not a big box chain…read more Just owned and operated by guys who lived in the Triad and shared in the passion of video games and, to a lesser extent, anime and that kind of stuff. Player's Choice was ahead of its time and I'm not sure the City of High Point's population/economy was big nor "advanced" enough to sustain it. I think a store like Player's Choice was better-suited for bigger cities and metropolitan areas with larger gaming communities that had more disposable income. New and rare video games, consoles, and anime weren't cheap! Gaming can be an expensive hobby. I visited this Player's Choice store in High Point multiple times in the late 90s. My mom used to drive me over 30 minutes just to get to the flagship store in Winston-Salem on Robinhood Road: https://www.yelp.com/biz/game-on-winston-salem. However, around the time this location opened, circa 1998, I was old enough to drive. I'd either come here by myself or bring my friends. As high schoolers, we couldn't afford much here, but it was still fun to visit and browse. This location was only five minutes from our house so needless to say, I was very happy it opened. Player's Choice had game rental plans well before services like GameFly. I got some great deals on used anime OVAs on VHS. Even in the late 90s, I could tell this store was struggling. During my visits, business in the store couldn't compare to the business I saw at the Robinhood location. Across the country, video game shops like this have been closing in droves because the demand for physical media isn't what it used to be. The Robinhood store, which eventually changed its name to Game On, officially closed on January 4, 2020. This used to be the Staples shopping center, but Harbor Freight is now the anchor in Staples' old space. And today, a Boost Mobile store is where Player's Choice used to be. Thanks for the memories, Player's Choice of High Point. Gone, but never forgotten.
