We have been coming here for a few years, but this was the last time. This event has turned into a…read morecircus - with lines going out the door (tent door). Once inside the pickle tent, each vendor has a separate line - which takes even longer with MANY people cutting in line constantly. Their logic is that they already waited on one line - they aren't waiting on another, so they cut in. I am surprised there weren't fights. One vendor (after waiting on line) had the nerve to tell me they ran out of samples (even though they had buckets full of pickles). They actually refused to put out more samples claiming that someone ate a whole plate of samples and that was it. When I asked why they don't just cut up some pickles, they basically ignored me. (It's pickles, not caviar - Sheesh.) I told them (The Pickle Man) that I would not patronize their booth - and they didn't care one bit. The Pickle Guys (their competition - be careful with those names), on the other hand, were giving out samples of all of their products and being NICE about it - actually appreciating their customers. The lines were just too much, and it was so frustrating that we didn't bother with most of the lines. The food trucks were a nice touch with a nice assortment of food - and that's the only reason why the pickle festival got a second star. We won't be back.

The main tent is mostly crafts with a few, mostly unpickled, food samples (cheese, jams). To the left and right, you have a few pickle vendors and some more unpickled food options. Once you're done wandering here - and keep an eye out for the giant human pickle - head toward the covered wooden structure in the way, way back. That has about 20 pickle vendors and is jammed with people. Respect the lines and prepare for a panoply of pickled produce - some as hot as scorpion peppers, some as unusual as naturally fermented turnip kraut or caraway pickle chips (delicious). Stick around for the pickle contests at 4, and maybe you can win a pickly prize! Second time here. Pickle ice cream this time. Delicious, and even better paired with the Aztec chocolate, but I didn't catch the name of the vendor! Look for the real ice cream with waffle cones, ignore the fake fair food. So many all-natural options, avoid any pickle stand with colors or preservatives. Even pickles for the sugar-free. Strange, unique, local, must visit.
