I've been to the Brine Barrel several times, and it's always been subs full of meat & all, plus delish pickles. Impulse stopped today on my way past, and nearly fell through the porch. Definitely prepare for the shift of the boards. Walked in and it REEKED of cigarettes. It's always kind of dark in there, so it was just a dingy vibe when you add smoke. That said, I still got a sub - they've definitely slimmed down recently, but damn it was tasty. I also got a pint of the red hot pickles, which aren't that spicy, but still tasty. The owner was nice enough, I wouldn't say friendly, but didn't snarl at me. I do find it funny that none of the subs seem to have pickles on them, considering it's a pickle place! ‍ Here's hoping he fixes the porch, maybe spiffs up the place a little, and stays open for a long time - because the subs really used to be good! read more

Located a bit further down Partition, Brine Barrel is the town pickle store. It usually looks deserted inside and they don't always answer the phone, however they're typically open. Except once in a blue moon when they decide not to open. They make really good pickles include a wide variety of flavors/options, so that gives them the right to do as they damned well please. I get it.m and so should you. I always get the Klink sandwich, which is Genos salami, turkey, and sharp provolone with horseradish Mayo and pickles on hero bread. It's a pretty incredible sandwich, and typically enough for 1 lunches unless I'm really hungry. Really good balance of ingredients too. Other sandwiches are good too with the only I didn't love being the pastrami (just ok). Decent selection of chips to go along with it too. For pickles I like the full sour, horseradish, and some of the other spicy varieties. Can't really go wrong and the prices are reasonable all around. Great place that sometimes flies under the radar because it looks unassuming from the outside. Don't be fooled. read more

Great little store, tucked away in the side streets of Saugerties NY. Father's Day weekend 2020, we found the Brine Barrel out of desperation, 3 months into covid, nothing was open. We returned this year because of how fantastic it was. The sandwich's and pickles are amazing. The Old World, is out of this world, I'm a paisan from Long Island and this is one of the best Italian Heros I've ever eaten. My wife had the Chief Turkey which was pretty dam good as well. Good pickles, customer service needs some work. I've tried to stop into this place about 4x and always found it to be closed even though the hours said it should be open. Finally had a chance to stop in this past weekend and sampled some pickles. They are all really tasty and unique. The gentleman working though seemed very disinterested in helping or answering any questions. Everything I asked seemed to bother him and when he was ladling the pickles for me I generally asked if the farmer's market was on today and he literally said "don't know, don't care." The owner was friendly and told us a little about the history of the building and how he came to be in the pickle business. In addition to their selection of homemade pickles (which you can sample at the door), they make excellent sandwiches. The ingredients were well chosen, from the crusty roll, to the smoked provolone, to the horseradish mayonnaise. I got the roast beef, my wife got the "Klink", and we were both quite happy with our sandwiches. Each sandwich comes with a pickle, and I mean a real pickle, not just a wedge. This is not a sit down restaurant, you come in and order any kind of sub you want and they will make it for you. The bread was fresh which is a must for a good sub, the meat and cheese components were fresh and of good quality. Stopped in for pickles, which they sell individually for 50 cents apiece. Got 2 hot and 2 sweet horseradish. Definitely received more than 2 pickles worth of slices - amazing deal for $2. The sweet horseradish pickles are unbelievably good - sweet and with some very legit heat. The hot ones are reallllly spicy so be careful. Horseradish are definitely my favorite though. Will absolutely be stocking up next time we're in Saugerties, and look forward to trying the sandwiches. read more

I had been wanting to come in here for awhile (because I LOVE LOVE LOVE pickles), and boy was I happy after I did! I liked that you could sample the pickles beforehand, and after trying them all I had a really hard time deciding which one I was going to bring home with me. I ended up going with the horseradish pickle since I was in the mood for something with a little kick. Really all of the flavors were great. I took a day trip up to Saugerties and Woodstock this past Saturday (Columbus Day weekend). I'd read about Brine Barrel when researching Saugerties and made it a point to stop in. I'm so glad I did! I was able to sample the pickles before buying, as well as some of the cheeses and meats. The shop owner also had store-made olive tapenade out to sample. I left with whole half-sour, whole garlic dill, and sliced sweet horseradish pickles, plus some sauerkraut. All are fantastic, but I sure am wishing I bought more of the sweet horseradish pickles! We go ever weekend and pick up our pickles, olives, artichokes, stuffed peppers and more to add to our lunch and dinner salads for the week.
