Brine Barrel special $15. He made sure to tell me this sandwich is 2 sandwiches in 1. Got half way thru when I realized he forgot my onion, hot peppers, and vinegar. He also forgot my pickle which I asked for on the way out the door and is included with every sandwich. The place is empty and non inspiring. You really need to be on your game for a $15 sandwich in an empty store with no customers. With all that being said this sandwich was excellent but you pay for it. If this is a double I'm scared to see a single ***found 2 banana pepper rings in the last bite read more

Brine Barrel - Specialty Food Near Me - Saugerties, New York

I've been to the Brine Barrel several times, and it's always been subs full of meat & all, plus delish pickles. Impulse stopped today on my way past, and nearly fell through the porch. Definitely prepare for the shift of the boards. Walked in and it REEKED of cigarettes. It's always kind of dark in there, so it was just a dingy vibe when you add smoke. That said, I still got a sub - they've definitely slimmed down recently, but damn it was tasty. I also got a pint of the red hot pickles, which aren't that spicy, but still tasty. The owner was nice enough, I wouldn't say friendly, but didn't snarl at me. I do find it funny that none of the subs seem to have pickles on them, considering it's a pickle place! ‍ Here's hoping he fixes the porch, maybe spiffs up the place a little, and stays open for a long time - because the subs really used to be good! read more

Brine Barrel - Old World sub. - Specialty Food Near Me - Saugerties, New York

Located a bit further down Partition, Brine Barrel is the town pickle store. It usually looks deserted inside and they don't always answer the phone, however they're typically open. Except once in a blue moon when they decide not to open. They make really good pickles include a wide variety of flavors/options, so that gives them the right to do as they damned well please. I get it.m and so should you. I always get the Klink sandwich, which is Genos salami, turkey, and sharp provolone with horseradish Mayo and pickles on hero bread. It's a pretty incredible sandwich, and typically enough for 1 lunches unless I'm really hungry. Really good balance of ingredients too. Other sandwiches are good too with the only I didn't love being the pastrami (just ok). Decent selection of chips to go along with it too. For pickles I like the full sour, horseradish, and some of the other spicy varieties. Can't really go wrong and the prices are reasonable all around. Great place that sometimes flies under the radar because it looks unassuming from the outside. Don't be fooled. read more

Excellent, this was a most delicious sandwich...) And the pickles.... Will be returning very soon read more

How can you not love a well made sandwich!? I had the Old World Italian sub for lunch last week while in Saugerties for a job. It was so good I got one for dinner on my way back to the hotel this evening. Nice guy behind the counter takes care in preparing a good sized, tasty sandwich that will make you happy you stopped in. Totally worth seeking out if you're near Saugerties. read more

This Is A Sub. This Is What I Thought I Would Get From A Sub/Sandwich Shop That Has Been Around As Long As They Have. Honestly I Enjoyed Subs From SubWay 101% More Than BB Sub And I'm Not To Crazy For SubWay Subs. So In A Nut Shell You Want A Good Decent Sub Look Elsewhere Because You're Not Gonna Get Anything Decent Here At The Brine Barrel. Zero Stars But For This Review They Ask For A Star Rating read more

Brine Barrel - This Is The Way You Make A Sub. I'd Have Zero Issues Paying For This! - Specialty Food Near Me - Saugerties, New York

Amazing sandwiches and subs also the pickles are to die for!! Best subs in Saugerties hands down.

Saw it on the internet and decided to stop by when we were in town. Glad we did, an old school, small town take out deli. Delicious sandwiches. read more

Great little store, tucked away in the side streets of Saugerties NY. Father's Day weekend 2020, we found the Brine Barrel out of desperation, 3 months into covid, nothing was open. We returned this year because of how fantastic it was. The sandwich's and pickles are amazing. The Old World, is out of this world, I'm a paisan from Long Island and this is one of the best Italian Heros I've ever eaten. My wife had the Chief Turkey which was pretty dam good as well. The sweet horseradish pickles are a must. And this year I dabbled into the potato salad, which was equally as delicious! read more

Good pickles, customer service needs some work. I've tried to stop into this place about 4x and always found it to be closed even though the hours said it should be open. Finally had a chance to stop in this past weekend and sampled some pickles. They are all really tasty and unique. The gentleman working though seemed very disinterested in helping or answering any questions. Everything I asked seemed to bother him and when he was ladling the pickles for me I generally asked if the farmer's market was on today and he literally said "don't know, don't care." Oddly enough, Brine Barrel would be a perfect addition to the Saugerties farmers market. Maybe it was an off day but his attitude is enough to keep me away next time. read more

Thank you Matt for your hospitality today as we stopped by for sandwiches on our way out on a hike. Order The Godfather for sure, although one sub is enough for up to three people (we split ours, and still couldn't finish). The bonus was buying Matt's amazing pickles and sauerkraut, which we loaded into the cooler. Small businesses like Brine Barrel have had such a tough time during Covid-19 - we were so happy to find Brine Barrel and hope to return in the future during our next Catskills visit! read more

Took me 6 years to finally get a sandwich here. I waited 6 years too long. Very fresh and delicious. And the bread was perfectly soft and crunchy! We got the old world and American. Perfection. read more

First time trying this place no frills just homemade goodness we had the Italian sub and brine special was amazing great bread and lots of flavor for a kid from Brooklyn felt like home, also had sweet horseradish pickles also amazing. Service was great will be back soon!!!!! read more

I just want to thank this place for making great sandwiches. The Italian bread used for subs or rolls is super fresh, the owner is friendly, and it's becoming a monthly joy to get a yummy sandwich and a pickle from Brine Barrel. read more

Did someone say pickles? This "stealthy" little hole in the wall is not to be underestimated. The Brine Barrel has some of the best signature sandwiches (2 to be exact) and Saugerties has no shortage of fine eateries. This place is perfect for ingredient gathering for preparing salads and antipastos. Give the Brine Barrel a shot. read more

Been going there for quite awile. My favorite is the roast beef sub.He cooks his own roast beef, and also uses romaine lettuce and sub rolls from Deisings Bakery. You will not find a better sandwich anywher in Ulster County read more

Have been going for many years but today's sandwich was a cheap imitation of just a couple of years ago. It tastes good but, where's the meat? And cheese? read more

Delicious pickles! Best half sour we have had. Black bean chili was great. I bought several types of pickles for a party and everyone raved about them. My fav was the horseradish pickles. read more

My wife and I stopped in for lunch on our way down to our favorite chocolatier. It's a small, relatively new and unassuming deli. The owner was friendly and told us a little about the history of the building and how he came to be in the pickle business. In addition to their selection of homemade pickles (which you can sample at the door), they make excellent sandwiches. The ingredients were well chosen, from the crusty roll, to the smoked provolone, to the horseradish mayonnaise. I got the roast beef, my wife got the "Klink", and we were both quite happy with our sandwiches. Each sandwich comes with a pickle, and I mean a real pickle, not just a wedge. You can choose from any of their favors. We only visit Saugerties a couple times a year, but we will definitely be back! read more

This place has good huge subs (thankfully they're aren't overstuffed so you actually have a chance to finish them) and SOLID pickle game. They were out of half sours so I opted for garlic dill. My regret I only got a pint bc I'm on my way to finishing it all. Also have super spicy habanero chops. They aren't for the faint of tastebuds but if you love spicy, you'll love them. read more

I can't get enough of the Half Sours!!! Every time I travel to Brine Barrel I get a few quarts and must have the HOT Pastrami on Rye!!! :D

My kind of place! No nonsense, big signs, flashing neon just great subs and many flavors of pickles at good prices! This is not a sit down restaurant, you come in and order any kind of sub you want and they will make it for you. The bread was fresh which is a must for a good sub, the meat and cheese components were fresh and of good quality. Don't forget to order a side of pickles, my companion ordered the garlic dills, I got the sweet horseradish both were excellent. The pickles were soo good we got some of both to take home, they are sold in pints and quarts. If you want waiters and glitz go somewhere else if you want a great sub at a good price don't be afraid to stop in an don't forget the pickles! read more

Called ahead for takeout. Very disappointed , menu said pickle with sub, none of our orders had a pickle. Also the roll is excellent very fresh and crusty, but not much inside of it and sub was very dry, the dressing was almost nonexistent . read more

Stopped by for a sandwich and it was delicious! Great quality ingredients and huge portions. Highly recommend.

My first stuffed animal as a baby was Super Pickle (complete with cape and big red shoes) so perhaps I am predisposed to love this store. The pickles are fresh and delicious, and with generous samples you can choose your favorite flavor without committing to a whole tub. I love the sweet horseradish and the whole dill varieties. Also a great place to pick up a good selection of cheese at reasonable prices. read more

Stopped in for pickles, which they sell individually for 50 cents apiece. Got 2 hot and 2 sweet horseradish. Definitely received more than 2 pickles worth of slices - amazing deal for $2. The sweet horseradish pickles are unbelievably good - sweet and with some very legit heat. The hot ones are reallllly spicy so be careful. Horseradish are definitely my favorite though. Will absolutely be stocking up next time we're in Saugerties, and look forward to trying the sandwiches. read more

This place was dirty and very unappealing. The outside was cute so me and a friend went in to check it out and was really disappointed. To say this place is just a sad man with a microwave is an understatement. She got a corned beef sandwich and the meat had to have have gone bad because the second she opened the paper, it smelled off. Would not recommend going here unless you like hot pickles and a weird atmosphere. read more

Great spot for a sandwich and some yummy pickles! Big sandwiches! Pickles were awesome! Loved the sour dill! Guy inside was incredibly nice ! Would def come back! read more

I had been wanting to come in here for awhile (because I LOVE LOVE LOVE pickles), and boy was I happy after I did! I liked that you could sample the pickles beforehand, and after trying them all I had a really hard time deciding which one I was going to bring home with me. I ended up going with the horseradish pickle since I was in the mood for something with a little kick. Really all of the flavors were great. I want to go back and try their cheeses which I now wholeheartedly regret not buying when I went in. Next time I'm in Saugerties this will be one of my first stops! read more

I love pickles, so obviously I had to check this place out. Cute little shop. You can walk in and sample their pickle flavors before ordering. Great prices. I'd recommend a pickle on a stick! read more

Hole in the wall, top secret sandwich magic. Best subs around like an old school deli. Less than 10 bucks for a solid, premium quality sub. Have eaten here at least a dozen times, quality and service has always been good. My only beef with this place is Google and Facebook and every other place online lists the wrong phone number. See images for the correct number. read more

My 14 year old daughter and her 14 year old BFF say these are "The best pickles in the world." We stop here every time we're in Saugerties. Try a bag for 50 cents, then take home a quart for $6. I'd recommend the sweet horseradish pickles which are extraordinary! In fact, I'm off to my fridge to have some now!! read more

I took a day trip up to Saugerties and Woodstock this past Saturday (Columbus Day weekend). I'd read about Brine Barrel when researching Saugerties and made it a point to stop in. I'm so glad I did! I was able to sample the pickles before buying, as well as some of the cheeses and meats. The shop owner also had store-made olive tapenade out to sample. I left with whole half-sour, whole garlic dill, and sliced sweet horseradish pickles, plus some sauerkraut. All are fantastic, but I sure am wishing I bought more of the sweet horseradish pickles! Incredible! I'll be back next time I travel up that way. read more

Brine barrel has the best pickles, meats and cheese around. We go ever weekend and pick up our pickles, olives, artichokes, stuffed peppers and more to add to our lunch and dinner salads for the week. I have tried everything at the store and have never been disappointed. If you have not been in you need to stop park in front and walk right in. Tell Matt I sent you! read more
