It really feels like a home cooked meal made with care. While the prices aren't the cheapest, the quality and taste absolutely justify it. You can tell there's a lot of attention put into each dish. My personal favorite is the lechon kawali paired with their garlic rice. It is crispy, rich, and packed with flavor. The dining space itself is cute, cozy, and very clean, making it a perfect little date night spot. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, which adds to the overall experience. It isn't the fastest service, so I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're on a time crunch. It's a great place to sit down and relax, and really enjoy the food. One thing to keep in mind is that their hours can be a bit unusual, so it's definitely worth checking ahead before you go. Location-wise, it's also a great stop. It is just a short walk from the local brewery and the rail trail, making it an ideal place to grab a meal after a walk or before heading out for a couple of beers. Overall, a fantastic spot if you're looking for comforting, high quality Filipino food in a cozy setting.

The only other time I'd been to a Filipino spot was years ago at Jeepney in NYC with Yelp friends…read morefor a UYE. I'm not claiming expert status on Filipino food because I'm nowhere close. But there are a few universal similarities with Latin food: rice, seafood (because I'm a pescatarian) and garlic- to name a few. Then there's their halo-halo dessert. So when Hapág Bistro popped up in my Yelp pages- in Highland, NY no less and conveniently close to work- I was in. Hapág is cozy the second you step in here. My eyes immediately went up to the ceiling where these folks have faux greenery+florals hanging across the space. It actually softens Hapág and adds a little "nature". I was here on a tight clock and didn't have time to sit down for a full meal. But while I looked at the menu at work, one thing immediately jumped at me: halo-halo. This thing is sweet. It's a sweet explosion of shaved ice, creamy ube goodness, jellies, fruit and leche flan tucked in like little treasures. Then comes the ice cream on top tying the whole shit together. Every spoonful is cold, creamy and sugary in the best way. Shoutout to my girl Danielle, who was super pleasant and had one of those smiles that totally makes the place feel even more welcoming. Next time I'll actually stay long enough to eat real food- but for a quick pop-in, Hapág came out on top with dessert alone.

Amazing experience here with the kamayan feast that was prepared with love by Chef Champ!…read more When we arrived, the table was all set. Chef Champ greeted us and learned each guest's name and showed us how to properly grab the food for kamayan. We were encouraged to grab a drink from the fridge, and I had the calamansi. We feasted on chicken lumpia with Thai chili sauce, lechon with garlic vinegar, chicken inasal, sweet and sour snapper with rice, 3 types of sauces and fruit. And as a dessert, we had beautifully prepared halo halo. After the meal, Chef Champ explained the hand painted wall and the inspiration for the design. This was such a wonderful and cozy experience. I wish I lived closer to Troy so I could go back again!

Menu changes so keep an eye out. If owner is reading this, please add fresh lumpia to the menu once in a blue moon (because that's something I've refused to try cooking at home it's too many components). For anyone wondering what that is it's a savory crepe with cooked vegetables with a sweet and salty sauce and it's so good. Halo halo was good. Reminded me of the days when my parents would buy halo halo from the Filipino storefronts on summer weekends in southern California where i grew up. I got 2, 1 for me and 1 for my fiance. It seemed as though 2 different people made our halo halos because his had coconut, mine didn't and his had a garlic aftertaste like when you cut a fruit on a cutting board after cutting garlic on a cutting board since garlic is strong. Service was so fast. It's all preorder so i ordered the day before, got a text ~15 min before my pick up time that it was ready and picked it up. It's a small place, cute and cozy for a fast meal or for takeout. We know where we'll get our halo halo fix. That and fresh lumpia are the things i eye on the weekly preorder menu

This place is unique--it's a catering business, but it sells plates of food, sort of buffet-style, for $6.50. I love how family oriented the business is, and we could read all their stories on the wall. In addition to the comfort of the atmosphere, the food was great too! You can pick either rice or noodles, and you can choose up to two main dishes of their many options. They cook chicken curry, chicken adobo, pork belly, meatballs, and more. All options smell so delicious, but I went with the chicken curry, chicken adobo, and rice. The plate is extremely cheap for what you get! The portions are large and filling, and it's a great experience to be eating there. There are not a lot of places to eat Filipino in Upstate NY, so I'd take advantage of this great opportunity to eat some delicious food! Overall, this is a unique, cute restaurant. It's a catering and choose-your-own-dish restaurant, and it's great to bring friends. Food is cheap, quality, and delicious! Will definitely be here again if in the area!

I'm not in the habit of driving within 25 yards of Neil's Donuts when I know they're closed. But…read moreif I do, it's because I was craving lumpia or other Filipino food from Kayumangi Authentic Filipino ("KAF"). KAF is a small Filipino Market, that serves a number of prepared Filipino foods cafeteria style, and they also have a kitchen for preparing some additional menu items. I hadn't visited since before the Pandemic, but I felt KAF's lumpia calling me this week. I arrived around 5:30 and I was the only customer at that time. The cafe part of the business is in the back. There are a few tables for dining in. The atmosphere is decent, but not a selling point since the Market's merchandise is in view. Service is a hybrid model. I've always ordered at the cash register. For food that's ready, they just plate it and bring it to you. If you order from the menu, they prepare it and bring it to you. However, it's not the type of place where they bring you a glass of water and occasionally refill it. It's more like you're eating at Chipotle, except they bring your food to you. I ordered lumpia and Menudo. If you haven't had lumpia, they look similar to fried spring rolls. KAF's are filled with what seems like a cooked pork and veggie mixture that is mostly meat. It's crispy and tasty. KAF's Menudo is a stew of pork chunks, liver, potatoes, carrots, peas, etc. It tastes like a dish you might get at a Filipino friend's house. The meat and veggies were tender and the sauce was mild and savory. When I score a place like Kayumangi, I don't compare it to sit down restaurants. I compare it to other small food markets that happen to serve food. Another thing in Kayumangi's favor is that I'm not aware of other Filipino options in the nearby areas. With those caveats, I give Kayumangi 4 Stars and I will return when the mood strikes me.

If you're like me and can't live without a variety of Asian goodies like tea and crackers, your jaw is bound to drop at the sights as you walk in. Sure, the aisles are only wide enough for one person to walk through straight on, but that's a small concession for what's on offer here. Their produce section is surprisingly extensive, there's even a seafood section, and it looks like they've finally revamped the hot food next to the front entrance. The staff at checkout here are always quick and efficient, and I'm grateful they're such a decent Asian supermarket in the Capital District to complement the wonderful Kim's and Jang Tuh. They have their own parking lot and we have come close to not finding a parking space here, but there's a constant flow of people coming and going, so we've never actually not found parking.

The overall cleanliness of the store also raises some serious concern! It's really disappointing because a good Asian grocery store is hard to find in the area. I hope the management takes these issues seriously and improves their quality control and sanitation standards. Customers deserve better, especially when it comes to food safety.
