I just bought a $90 Madewell sweater two months ago. Wore it one time, and I didn't realize it was dry clean only. Brought it to Perry's Cleaners, and apparently they didn't read that it was dry clean only either. The sweater was wool, and they completely shrunk it! I may be wrong, but I didn't think it was possible to shrink something if it was just dry cleaned (?). I assume they laundered it. It is a size XL sweater, and my friend who wears a small couldn't have worn it. I was livid!
I asked whether they would be able to purchase a new sweater for me, since it was a recent (expensive) purchase. The owner (?) said she would try and stretch it out and if that didn't work they'd purchase a new one. They told me to come back the next day to see whether the stretching process had worked.
I came back the next day and tried the sweater on for them. It was completely short (both in the arms and in the length) AND the neckline was very stretched out. I told them I wouldn't be able to wear it, and would like the new sweater. After about 45 minutes of them yelling at me, offering a few dollars of store credit instead, and refusing to purchase a new sweater, they finally caved and said they would order a sweater and send it to my house.
A few days later, they called and said they had the sweater. Didn't send it to the house, but they had it at their location. They said they wanted my (shrunken) sweater in return for the new one. Whatever, fine. I went to pick it up and they were trying to tell me that the size difference was minimal between the new one and the shrunken one. Well anyone with eyes could have seen that was wrong! She then asked for another day to try and stretch it out even more, to which I told her no. This was my third time back at the place, and I didn't want to keep making trips (two of my three toddlers were in the car too, and it's just hard for me to do anything with them-let alone go to the dry cleaners FOUR times for the same sweater. She snatched my shrunken sweater, and held on to the new sweater! I reached for the new one, and she snatched it back. In anger, she cut both the price tag AND the Madewell hang tag from the new sweater before throwing it at me! I asked her why she did it, and asked her for the hang tag back so I could try and sew it in there. She refused! I just didn't understand it.
Not only will she ever see me or any of my family/friends again, I couldn't believe she acted that way in front of customers (there were other people in the shop). Beware, Summer Ave.! They will ruin your clothes, and they will only make it right if you're super persistent-but they'll also cut tags out of your expensive sweaters in spite. By the way, this is the first time I've EVER taken time out of my day to negatively review someone. read more
