This is my second time going to see Lauren for upper lid eyeliner. The first time was about 4 years ago. 1st session went okay, just did a minor lash enhancement- no biggie, but it faded about a year after. Returned to her again 3 years later. I decided to go thicker this time. My next three sessions were more painful than expected and the healing was 10x worse than I remembered. The scabbing and inflammation lasted about 7 days. When talking to her about it, she didn't seem too concerned. I had the same reaction each session. I wasn't sure if I was having a reaction with the pigment or if her technique was way to harsh. She is very hot/cold. She seems to get very irritated easily and has an eerie energy about her. I would not recommend her for eyelids/eyeliner. She may have been doing permanent makeup for a long time but her technique was traumatizing and she is not very knowledgeable about medication. I am a Registered Nurse with ER/TELE/PACU and surgical post-op experience, therefore I have extensive knowledge on wound care. I'm also heavily tattooed and all my tattoos have healed well. This has been a learning experience for me. I highly recommend looking for photos of HEALED tattoos. Most of her portfolio contains fresh tattoos which look great. I've been waiting to write my review so I could really give an informed one, but I've been thrilled since day one. Let's just say this is some of the best money I've ever spent, the other being laser hair removal 16 years ago; vanity meets laziness... I get compliments all the time about how fantastic my brows look. I should just say thanks, but I can't help but launch into a "Thanks, I got them tattooed!" speech. The day of my second touchup I had someone ask me how I got my eyeliner so perfect all the time. Secret's out now! Before I went in I had several e-mail conversations with pictures, and then a phone consultation. I've been wanting to do this for years, but it's scary finding someone you can trust to tattoo your face! There's no hiding it, so I really wanted to be sure. I had my eyebrows and eyeliner done; bold, slight wing on top, mucosal for the lower (outer corners). Before I got my brows done I had been growing them out for about 2 years. I went through a pretty thin phase -I don't even think intentionally- it just happened! Like when you start to gain weight and you don't notice until it's too late, and then you have to give up bread and queso, which is basically impossible. I digress. I had made pretty good progress growing them out, but they were still a little sparse in places. Lauren to the rescue! The Timeline July 27th, 2016 Brows (Round 1) Top Eyeliner (Round 1) Lower Lash Enhancement (Round 1) August 31st, 2016 Top Eyeliner (Round 2) Lower Mucosal (Round 1) A little more bold on the bottom, but still only going about a third of the way in. November 9th, 2016 Brows (Round 2) Top Eyeliner (Round 3) Lower Mucosal (Round 2) February 22nd, 2017 Brows (Round 3) Lower Mucosal (Round 3) Make sure to go in about 2 weeks before/ 2 weeks after your period; the pain is harder to tolerate when you're on your cycle. My first appointment lasted 3.5 hours, about 2.75 hours of tattooing (experiencing the most discomfort during the last 30 minutes). The rest of the time was talking about what I wanted, looking at pictures of her work, numbing my eyes and eyebrows, picking the color I wanted (a dark brown to match my brows, and a black for the eyeliner), and Lauren breaking out a ruler and marking up your face until she's satisfied with the shape. At Lauren's direction the night before I took 50mg of Benadryl, and then about an hour before my appointment I took another 50mg of Benadryl (to reduce tearing up), and 1g of Tylenol (to reduce swelling and pain). Lauren uses a lidocaine gel and lets it sit for a good 20-30 minutes, then she makes a few cuts and adds more lidocaine so you get good and numb. You can hear and feel what's going on, but it doesn't hurt, you mostly feel pressure. She also will reapply more if you ask, or if she notices you start to squirm. I will say by the end of the first session I was exhausted, probably a combination of the tattooing and the Benadryl. I was swollen too, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. You're not supposed to get your work wet for the first week, so Lauren gives you Vaseline or A&D to use as a moisture barrier for when you shower or if you HAVE to work out. She also gives you black tea bags to help the redness and swelling, and a coconut, honey, lavender oil that she makes to apply 3-5 times a day for the first few days to keep it moist and promote healing. Your tattoos will crust over, DO NOT PICK AT THEM. You just have to suck it up for a few days. I found the first 2 days to be the most uncomfortable, if you're worried about it you can get your doc to prescribe a low does pain killer. You can't wear makeup (specifically eye makeup, but you really want to keep your face as dry as possible, so it's easiest to just wear nothing and do a quick wash with a damp cloth, don't put your face under the shower!) until you're healed up, so mentally prepare yourself for that if you wear it every day. Trust me, it will be worth it. The followup rounds Lauren just worked on adjusting the shape, making the top eyeliner thicker at my request, and filling out the color. They took only about an hour each time, 20-30 minutes to numb, and 20-30 minutes to tattoo. Swelling and pain were also reduced. I am beyond thrilled with the results. I only wear mascara and blush most days, sometimes a quick sweep with eyeshadow. ...BB cream and powder if I'm having a break out. Makeup never takes me more than 2 minutes. I've used eyeliner 3 times since July 2016, for some heavy, smokey, eyes. It's a special occasion thing now. I've moved on to obsessing over skincare now. DO IT! **I'll add photos soon. read more

Please know, I witnessed the work instead of having it done. If I ever have any done and can experience the whole process, even the stuff outside of the studio, then I would probably do another review. I went to watch my friend get her eyebrows and eye liner done. It looked so super scary to me. What trust to not only have Lauren match the shade to your request, but for her to also not jab you in the eye! I didn't watch most of it. Mainly just provided moral support. HOWEVER...Lauren was great with my friend! My friend had come in prior for a consultation and Lauren was very thorough. They apparently not only discussed what my friend hoped to accomplish, but also what to expect during the procedure and afterwards. Lauren was absolutely correct on all accounts...what medicine to take before and after, what to expect for sounds (the littlest baby blade sounds just like sandpaper on eyebrows), and how you feel after - what to do to feel better, etc. My friend's makeup is progressing just like she said it would. Lauren said most people are freak out right away and think it's too dark. Then about a month later the eyebrows and lids calm down and the color looks a shade lighter. She was right. My friend was going for a very natural look and while it looked a little too bold for a few weeks, by the end of the month it looked spot on. Lauren played fun music the whole time, kept my friend chill, and relaxed during the whole thing. I'm not up for doing anything permanent yet, but since my friend had such a wonderful experience I know that if I did get anything done, I would come here. read more

My session for permanent eyeliner (top and bottom) was unfortunately a waste. Three sessions should have kept the eyeliner in place and to my tastes for quite awhile before I would ever need a touch up. Unfortunately within 14 days of both my first AND my second session my lower liner faded into complete non existence. Gone. Nada. The top liner was so thin you can barely see it. Lauren assured me that you have to start thinner and work your way up with the pigment but I didn't see how there would be any difference when the second out of 3rd session resulted in the same barely visible liner. I brought pictures to show what I wanted but I guess we both had a big communication breakdown. :( I found her bedside manner lacking which always sucks when someone is performing a very painful procedure. I feel like this more than anything turned me off the most. I never went back for my third session and was so turned off I didn't even ask for my money back. read more

Lauren is the best permanent make-up artist in Austin and I am beyond satisfied. My husband and I recently spent a month in Australia and since we were going to hang out at the beach all day and every day, I decided to get my eyebrows done before I left. I'm terrified of needles and any type of pain but Lauren made me feel at ease by explaining all of her tools and reassuring me that she will be using an anesthetic. I had wanted permanent eyeliner since I was sixteen years old, but was hesitant because I couldn't find reliable information about how the eyeliner would "grow out" over the years. Would the line move? Would it bleed and expand? How much would it fade, and would it fade evenly? I had a couple consultations over the years and was turned off for a few reasons including: the artist had terrible-looking eyeliner themselves, they could only show me pictures of eyeliner that had just been done (no pics of healed or aged eyeliner), the artist did a bunch of other things like nails and waxing, they worked out of a nail salon, they didn't have enough reviews, they didn't seem able to articulate the process in detail, or the facility wasn't comfortable. When I turned 31 (in 2014), I decided to schedule a consultation with someone well-reviewed and and give it another shot. I found Lauren Jordan here on Yelp. She communicated with me promptly and professionally over email and the phone, and then we met at her salon office. She explained the process and didn't hold any punches about how my experience might differ from others. Her book did mostly include fresh jobs, but she was able to show me a couple pictures of healed eyeliner as well. Additionally, her portfolio included eyeliner in the color, boldness and shape that I wanted. Her own makeup looked great too - I know that's a testament to the artist who applied hers, but it also speaks to her standards and style. Lauren's bedside manner is very matter-of-fact. She is friendly, but she's not going to baby you and she won't coo when she directs you while she works. Her straightforward nature may be what ensures quality work. One year and eight months after my last visit, it was time for a touch up. My eyeliner has taken a beating. I swim a LOT in the summer, catch a lot of sun, sweat and exercise frequently, and generally do everything that would wear a tattoo out. The tattoo has faded and the line has softened, but the line hadn't moved and the color was still nice. From a distance, it looked fine. Close up, it just looked like faded pencil eyeliner. If I never wanted it touched up again, I would be comfortable with how it would deteriorate. I'll also add that Lauren let me come for a fourth visit to perfect a small area and was happy to do so. As other reviewers have noted, she takes great pride in her work. It should also be noted that this can be an iterative process that requires a feedback loop between Lauren and the client. Tell her if you want another spot looked at - she'll listen, look, advise and fix. I love having permanent eyeliner, so today I returned for a touch up. It looks even better that the work done initially - I love it! At one point, the other artist Nancy came in to setup for an appointment. If you prefer complete privacy, you may need to state that upfront to see if they can accommodate. Both artists share the room so that may or may not be possible without advance notice. I didn't mind, but it did catch me off guard for a moment when Nancy first walked in. At another point, someone's noisy kids came into the lobby down the hall; Lauren shut that down immediately. Regarding the procedure itself, it is true that it is minimally painful - however, it is very uncomfortable. It feels a bit stingy, but the real issue for me was just my instinctual reaction to having my eye area messed with. I admit that I may be more sensitive than others, so if I can do this, so can most. You'll be an active participant as Lauren directs you on where to look and what to do. For me, it's worth it. Take a deep breath and follow directions so Lauren can do her job to the best of her ability. My one critique is that I wish there were more bold-colored items around the room for me to steadily focus my eyes on. I highly recommend Lauren. She is a professional who will do the work that you want, give it to you straight, and make you feel valued as a client. read more

Lauren did my permanent eyeliner last summer. Pros: Lauren is quite talented and does an awesome job. Lauren has a very large portfolio. Procedure is painless and quick, done across about 3 appointments. There is virtually no down time if you don't mind being indoors for a day or two (in my experience). Just avoid sun exposure. Saves you time. Imagine having your eyeliner never wash off in the shower, pool, etc.. It's glorious. Cons: None. Advice: Know what you want and be very clear about it. Photos of examples help better than words, (one person's sense of thick is different from another's). If makeup is a daily ritual, this is one of the best investments you can make. Your time is the most valuable thing you have. If putting on eyeliner, eyebrows, etc. is taking up your time, do something about it. I've had my brows+ done by several artists, using both the stylus method and tattoo gun, (I paid handsomely for the latter as she had the likes of Oprah and Naomi Campbell++ on her resumé.) I have had several sessions with Lauren and I have found the below to be true: Her rates are VERY reasonable She includes touch-up sessions in her pricing She encourages you to take advantage of those extra sessions, (please refrain from posting a review until the work is complete.) She works with your asthetic and will tweek and evolve her/your design She is not just a permanent make-up technician but an artist, this is an art. I sometimes go too long between touch-ups, (for best results make it something you do for yourself annually,) and I still have significant color retention. She was the first technician that truly educated me on the procedure, it's more semi-permanent than permanent as facial tissue is thinner and holds ink differently than other parts of the body. (Which I have come to believe is a GOOD thing as our personal style evolves over time and any natural fading provides for a more flexible palate for adjustments.) My last refresher rocked. We took my petite, softer brow and went Debra Messing, more blunt/expressive. I love it. As with any procedure, educate yourself on the process, have reasonable expectations and select an experienced professional that makes you feel comfortable and gives you your desired result. I went back to get another eyebrow session done by Lauren. Of course, couldn't be happier. Love my brows! They look so natural. Lauren has really perfected the hair stroke technique like no other! So many of my friends try to find a place that will do their brows for "cheap" but the problem with that is that you get what you pay for and your brows are on your face..... EVERY DAY. My eyebrows were very sparse and light, so after years of dealing with eyebrow pencils and powders, I was ready for permanent makeup. Lauren walked me through the entire procedure before we began. Lauren's work is very pretty, but she has a bit of an abrupt personality and is not super gentle/patient. I went to her for eyeliner and she wanted me to keep my eyes open while she lined them with the needle. It was hard for me to do that with the needle coming at my eyes, so I would instinctively sometimes close them. She seemed very impatient and annoyed with me. I understand that it's dangerous to flinch, but she seemed hurried and didn't help to calm my nerves. When she finished, my eyes did look great, but they swelled up for 3 days so that I couldn't fully open them. They stung for the full 3 days as well. I let her know but she wasn't especially concerned. After the three days, my eyes returned to normal but the liner was completely gone. Lauren does provide 2 touchups, but they must occur within 6 months and I was a bit apprehensive because of the swelling and stinging reaction I experienced and by her nonchalant attitude to my reaction. I finally did call her again, but the 6 months had passed and she said that I would have to pay full price again to have them redone. I decided to try another place (for the same price) where I was able to keep my eyes closed during the procedure and they guarantee their work for 2 years. They were gentle and nurturing and had a calming manner. Lauren does have a great eye and I like her work. Perhaps our personalities just clashed for some reason. read more

You know you've been thinking about it (permanent eyeliner, that is!) since you're reading this review, so here's me to give you that little nudge of encouragement you need. DO IT. I'm not going to lie; I was super nervous about taking this step, but I'm so thrilled that I did! Lauren has an excellent artistic eye, a steady hand and the professionalism you're looking for. She listened attentively to what I wanted and gave me her professional assessment of what would and wouldn't work for my eye shape, age (52) and eye color. Then I had the fun of looking through her portfolio (beautiful work!) and then picking out my eyeliner color. Yes, it was uncomfortable, but not overly painful. During the application, Lauren will talk you through what she's doing and tell you which way to look to aid in getting the eyeliner applied. Your eyes are going to water during this one, but Lauren is attentive to your needs. If you need a moment for the discomfort or if, like me, you suddenly feel a sneeze coming on (that could have been unfortunate!), speak up and let her know. She's patient, accommodating and professional throughout. Follow the pre- and post-procedure instructions and you won't go wrong. Lauren applies a numbing creme before and during application to minimize the discomfort. I went home, applied a little ice to soothe and just rested. By the next morning, my eyes were a bit puffy and sore (to be expected), but by Day 3 it just looked like my allergies were bothering me. The liner looked very dark at first, but simmered down to a nice, slightly lighter color. By the middle of the first week the top layer of skin & color started to flake off, but this is totally normal.This is the skin just healing itself. I washed very gently with very diluted antibacterial soap to help remove the flakes (that no one noticed except myself!). DO NOT PICK AT THE FLAKES OR RUB YOUR EYES. That will just pull the color off. Be patient. Apply the soothing organic coconut oil and honey mixture Lauren gives you very lightly over your beautiful new eyeliner according to her instructions. I'm now in the start of Week 4 with nicely defined eyes and will be going back for my second session in a few weeks to set the color in more deeply. I'm so very happy with my eyeliner (in Jade Granite for my hazel eyes). Lauren is an artist. She's professional, will give you her expert advice on what will look best for you, and she's also pretty cool to boot! I highly recommend her! read more

I am curious to know how the other reviewers know Lauren is the best in the business. Have they been to other tattoo makeup artists? I have. I wanted to have a more dramatic look added to my simple liner I had tattooed on years ago with fantastic results. My result this time was mediocre. I asked for little flip and the end of my upper lid that I referred to in one of her pictures (almost cat-eye, but not really). One eye "flip" points up and is thick, the other eye lid points down and is finer. My eyes are shaped differently from each other as everyone's are. However, up and down, thick and thin are VERY different from each other. She can even out the thick/ thin part although I didn't want thick to begin with, but, you can't correct pointing up/ down. I need my brows done as well, but, I'm too nervous to go back. read more

I came to Lauren about 6 months ago for help with my almost non-existent eyebrows. I decided to have her do my brows and eyeliner to save me time with make-up. I am beyond happy with both. The worst service I could have ever possibly received in my life. I patiently waited for Lauren for 1.5hrs in the waiting room while she was in a consulting meeting with another patient. My appointment was scheduled for 1:30PM, but she was not free until 3PM. I soon discovered that Lauren had completely forgotten about my appointment, and she was not even apologetic for doing so. I highly do not recommend her. She puts you in a horrible, uncomfortable environment. She did not admit to her own mistakes. Good luck to those who continue to see her. read more

Lauren's work is excellent! I had my eyebrows done in August and completed my touch up sessions last week. I, like many, found Lauren via Yelp reviews. My eyebrows were the victim of over-plucking (O know, shame on me). I was in a nail salon about 2 years ago when one of their nail techs bugged me until I finally said yes, they can tattoo my eyebrows. Big mistake. Big....big mistake. Luckily, I did not have any adverse effects other than the shade she used turning orange (yes, that was lovely). Until Lauren educated me, I had no idea there was a license for this - and I so wish I had found her first. I had to go have the mess created by the first person laser removed (painful!). When I returned to her to get my eyebrows microbladed, she took a long time to get the tint just right as well as work on the shape. Even after viewing previous clients eyebrows, I was hesitant and skeptical. Yet, Lauren was able to help me get the correct shape for my face and correct tint. My eyebrows look fantastic! I have had SO many compliments. Most don't even realize they aren't real. They are THAT good. She is so good I'm considering getting the eyeliner done. I would do this again in a heartbeat. I had forgotten to take an antihistimine as she had suggested but she patiently waited until I took one in the office and allowed time for it to kick in. Decided to get my brows done by Lauren after a friend had great results. My brows were sparse, but thick and wiry. They also had been losing pigment and basically did nothing to frame my face. Lauren did my eyeliner. I only had the top done. I respect the fact that she does 3 permanent sessions to build color retention because the skin is delicate. The third session was a charm. I have to admit that I was hesitant about considering permanent makeup for the eyebrows! But at my first appointment Lauren was very patient in explaining the procedure and exactly what to expect. Very professional but at the same time warm and friendly! I couldn't be happier with the results!!! Best thing EVER! I love it!! I was reading some of the reviews and saw comments about fading...which is to be expected to a certain degree. So important to remember what Lauren says about avoiding products containing ADA's on procedure area. I was shocked to find out how many of my products contain those ingredients...so trying to be extra careful. Don't want to mess up a good thing!!! Another review was about a scheduling mixup. These things happen...I made a big goof when I had entered the time as 1:30 for my appointment when it was in fact at 11:30! Lauren called to see if I was coming in....and I said I definitely would be there! Yipes! How embarrassing. But Lauren was very gracious, accepted my apology and rescheduled for me! I've had my eyebrows and top & bottom eyeliner done by Ms. Lauren and am beyond pleased! The three applications see applies really helps your color hold longer and won't over work the skin in those fragile areas. She's so kind and patient. Worth every single penny. Lauren gave me new eyebrows a few days ago. Even looking in a 10x magnifying mirror I can hardly tell the hairs are tattooed on and not real.
