Love Jennifer and this business. People were skeptical that I was getting permanent make-up (eyebrows, eyeliner and lipliner). Go look for the scary "botch" jobs on the Internet. I guess it could have gone horribly wrong, but thankfully Jennifer is well trained, very good at communicating about the process and expected outcomes and by just overall a total professional. I had been a year and I still love how my permanent makeup looks. read more

Permanent Makeup By Jennifer - Makeup Artists Near Me - San Jose, California

Yelp removed my previous review since they said it contained second hand information (my mom was the one that received the service and not me). I did, however, make the appointment and wanted to provide my feedback again that Jennifer was difficult to reach via email and phone and it took several attempts to get in touch with her. My advice is to please consider the other reviews here carefully before deciding to go with this business for your permanent make-up. It seems weird to me that all of the reviews here are a solid 5-stars so I would take them with a grain of salt. read more

Hi, I had Jennifer outline my upper and lower lids as though I had just put eyeliner on. I have had such a hard time for years doing a straight line. And it never smears now. This is the best present I could have given myself. I am oh so happy with the results. Jennifer is pleasant, totally attentive, professional and an artist. I picked her name without any recommendation, only Yelp raves and I am so glad I did. Her office is immaculate, her mannerisms, professional yet extremely calming. What more can I say. My girlfriend had her eyebrows shaped and colored, and she is very happy, upon my recommendation. Need I say more? Karen read more

Listen up because I am supremely qualified to write this review. Why, you may ask? Here's why: Jennifer is the SECOND person I've had tattoo my eyeliner. And my experience with her was night and day different from that other lady. I will just tell you about Jennifer, rather than complain about how painful, unfriendly, harsh and overall unpleasant my other experience was. Because Jennifer is the complete opposite. First of all, I was referred to her by a friend who had been getting work done by Jennifer, and she went on and on about how great she was. Ha, well I'LL be the judge of that. I mean, Stacey loves EVERYONE and I'm a little more, umm, realistic. But that having been said, I gave Jennifer a go. I am SO GLAD I DID. Her office is professional and inviting, and she is a lovely and sweet woman. The first and most important thing she does to you is apply anesthetic to your eyes, and then leaves you by yourself in the room for 45 minutes to take a nap or just relax while the anesthesia takes full effect. THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE between a horribly painful experience and one that you can hardly feel. Trust me when I say that getting your eyes tattooed is not for sissies--- but if you go to Jennifer, it is absolutely as painless as you can get. She is meticulous, careful, gentle and responsive. She is THE BEST at this, I promise you. Included in the very fair price of this service is a follow-up appointment. I just went to mine and we found a few spots we wanted corrected. She took care of it and I was on my merry way. My eyes look totally awesome. THANK YOU, JENNIFER!!! I will be sending all my friends to you!!! read more

Jennifer Portley is an amazing permanent make-up artist! I was SO nervous to get permanent eyebrows and end up like Spock. But, my natural eyebrows are REALLY light and when I don't wear make-up, I am so plain. It prohibited me from going swimming, being seen without make-up, etc, etc. But, now that I have eyebrows, it makes all the dif in the world and I feel more confident to do some of the things I didn't want to do in fear of how I would look. Jennifer did an amazing job and it lasts for years. I am just so happy with them it's unbelievable. I wish I would have had them done years ago. Check it out. She also does eyeliner, lip liner, etc. read more

My friend went to Jennifer a few years ago and earlier this year I decided it was the time to check her out. She was a pleasure to work with. I knew I was dealing with a maticulously clean and skilled professional. I had my eyeliner done and she was extremely patient when we were making sure to perfect the outline. She was great and making me feel at ease and comfortable. It turned out so great and due to her special pre and post procedure steps I barely swelled at all. When I got home my husband questioned if I had even gotten it done because he was expecting reddness or atleast more swelling. I then explain that she had iced me down before leaving to make sure I wouldn't swell too much. She is GREAT!!!!! I would highly recommend her and I wish I could give her 10 STARS!! read more

I have been looking for a good permanent eyes brow make up person. I just google search several of them and decide to read up on yelp. Jennifer have alot of positive feedback except one which I figure she herself have her own issue. Anyway, Jennifer is VERY professional she explain every single little details, she is also a perfectionist. I highly recommend Jennifer Thank God I make a right choice. read more

Jennifer is a consummate professional. She excels at what she does and is committed to client satisfaction. I concur with previous reviewers regarding her attention to detail and making sure it is EXACTLY right. Highly recommend. read more

I got my eyebrows done by Jennifer and she was AMAZING!!! She was very professional, kind, patient, and explained everything to you beforehand. She did such a good job drawing in my shape that I didn't ask her to tweak anything. A true perfectionist! She measures everything, so both eyebrows were aligned. She numbed my eyebrows for about 45min and I barely felt the needle during the procedure. I was nervous that it would hurt because my previous experience with permanent make up was not pleasant. However, I didn't feel a thing. In fact, I even feel asleep during the procedure. I'm very happy with my eyebrows. She did the hair stroke technique, so my eyebrows look very natural. She cost $350, but worth every cent! I highly recommend her and will go back to her for touch ups and perhaps permanent eyeliner. FIVE GIGANTIC STARS!! read more

I also was going to write a review on Jennifer a long time ago. She is amazing! She is really thorough and a professional! She took care of me and made sure I was very comfortable! I love my eyebrows! I am a swimmer and I know they will fade away because of the chlorine. Jennifer did a touch up and took care of my eyebrows making sure everything was covered. I highly recommend her plus she is so sweet! read more

This is a long over due post, which may work well with permanent make up. I've had the time to see how it would look after a few months. First, Jennifer is the sweetest person. I didn't know her before this, and she treated me as an old friend. She was quick with responses, and transparent with what to expect. Second, her work is phenomenal. I was so hesitant because I can't have flashy make up for my job, but she made it so flawless and professional. It's been nearly 6 months and it still looks so great. I have my eyebrows done too (by another artist) and the eyeliner is lasting soooo much better. If you're on the fence, let me push you to one side... go with Jennifer! read more

As a natural blonde with pale lashes and thin, nearly invisible eyebrows, I was tired of waking up in the morning and needing to put on a bunch of makeup to feel like myself. (Only to have my face wash right off if I went for a swim or took an extra shower.) I decided it was time for a more "permanent" solution. After reviewing quite a few permanent make-up portfolios, Jennifer's work really stood out to me for it's symmetry and natural feel. To me, her work seemed superior even to artists charging double her prices! I made an appointment with her last September to have both my brows and upper eyeliner done. What can I say? It was so worth it!!!! Right off the bat Jennifer was very professional and warm. Her office is clean, and she opens her needles in your presence so you know they are sterile. With the numbing gel, my eyebrow procedure was nearly painless. The eyeliner was pretting intense (especially because I like a nice, thick line) but Jennifer reapplied the numbing gel as often as possible and offered breaks when needed. For the first week or so after my permanent make-up application-as Jennifer had warned me-the tattoo lines/color were very bold and appeared misshapen due to normal swelling. But after that first week? Wow! My eyebrows look a million times better now than on my best day with pencil and powder. And the eyeliner is great! I usually wear it just as is, but it's easy to change up the color with a gel liner when I want something more dramatic. My daily make-up routine has gone from half an hour to 15 minutes or less :-) I don't hesitate to recommend Jennifer to my friends, so this online review is long overdue! If you're seriously considering permanent makeup, I say go, go go! You won't regret it! read more

This review is long overdue. I'm a 74 year old woman who has never had eyebrows other than a very few sparse ones that all twanged in the wrong directions. I grew so weary of penciling them in every morning but agonized over getting them done permanently. I had visions of looking like one of the Angry Birds if things didn't go well. Finally, I made up my mind to go for it. I found Jennifer on Yelp, held my breath, and called her for an appointment. Upon arrival, I started to feel more at ease. Her office and work area were cozy, inviting, and immaculately clean. Her demeanor was kind, reassuring, and cheery. She told me exactly what to expect. We then discussed the procedure, and I felt much more relaxed when she explained that the equipment used would be perfectly sterile. We decided on what color would best suit my coloring (I'm fair skinned, brown eyed, and have highlighted blonde hair). She applied the local anesthesia, and away we went! The procedure was painless except for a small twinge or two. When she finished, I was initially pretty shocked. My brows seemed so dark but then again, I'd never really had any. She reassured me, saying they would lighten up in a few days, which soothed my frazzled nerves. Within a week, she was absolutely right, and I finally had eyebrows, beautiful eyebrows! Of course, I followed her directions regarding the aftercare. I went to my follow up appointment a month later for any necessary touch-ups, and we decided to tweak the color a little bit - I was ecstatic once the color settled down because I finally had beautiful, natural looking brows. Only us no-brows who have had this procedure done successfully will understand my delight. Jennifer is a treasure, her work is immaculate, and she is a consummate professional and perfectionist. read more

I also went to another person prior to seeing Jennifer. My experience with the other woman (not Jen!) was in my opinion, a complete nightmare. One eyebrow was higher than the other, and the other one was longer than the other. When I got home that evening, I searched online trying to find someone who could help me rectify the problem. Thankfully I found Jennifer. I emailed her with my story, and she told me exactly what to do. A couple of months later, I went into see Jen, to see if she could fix what the other woman had done. She spent a lot of time with me, and when I left, I felt 100% better about my eyebrows. She takes what she does very seriously, and is a true professional. She has years of experience and it shows. I cannot recommend her highly enough. read more

I had my doubts. Who wouldn't - I mean - 5 stars from everyone? Ok, I have doubts no more! And now I understand why we have all given her 5 stars. Not only is she the most professional and dedicated permanent makeup artist I have found, but a perfectionist as well. Since she is a makeup artist, she knows what is right for your look. I wanted my eyeliner to look a certain way, but she showed me how it would look so much better another way. I had my brows and eyeliner done and will be going back for lips! Without a doubt, she is a true artist that deserves every single star she gets!! read more

Jennifer was awesome. I had previously gone to another makeup artist for permanent eyebrows, but it was a painful process and the results faded fast. I went to see Jennifer about six months ago, and her work on my eyebrows had minimal pain with natural-looking results. My eyebrows are still looking great, and I definitely recommend her for permanent makeup. read more

First time I went here I was so scared but Jennifer made me feel at ease. I showed her a picture of the eyebrows I wanted and it came out perfectly.. I love my eyebrows! I plan on going back to touch it up... Thank you Jennifer :) read more

I had a horrible mishap (of my own doing), I was referred to Jennifer by a family member. She is the best kept secret in my family. The procedure was painless and the price reasonable. I went back for my follow up....very important, and she made a few painless adjustments and off I went with beautiful new permanent eyebrows. I can now go to the hairdresser, swim, camp and go near water without my eyebrow kit! I highly recommend Jennifer. read more

I had my eyebrows done today by Jennifer. I was very nervous about the procedure, Jennifer put in ease. she showed me how everything she used was very sterile explained everything she was going to do and took a lot of time drawing my eyebrows on me before she started the permanent drawing. I was so happy with the results when she showed me my new brows. Thank you so much Jennifer read more

Excellent work! Jennifer is not only an esthetician but a talented make-up artist too. I waited a long time to find someone who knew how to put professional make-up on, as she does for many actors in films, and was a permanent make-up specialist as well. This makes all the difference in the world! She carefully studies your face, the shape of your eyes, and suggests how you would look best. Jennifer was very thoughtful, patient, and considerate. She explained the process in detail and we agreed upon what she would do. The difference between her and other estheticians is her artistry and technically she allows an hour for the anesthetic to ensure clients of minimum discomfort. (I did not find the process painful at all.) With Jennifer's sure hand and confidence, I knew I was with someone who loved her work and wanted to do her best; this is really important. I didn't feel rushed, but well taken care of. And as others have noted on yelp, she pays close attention to details. I love my eyes! Now I have the confidence to step into the world without worrying how I look or spending time painting my eyes first. Furthermore, I love waking up pretty, especially for that special someone. I highly recommend Jennifer to all. There's no substitution for an artist who cares. Elizabeth O. read more

Jennifer is amazing. I have been waiting over 10 years to do my eyebrows. I am so obsessive and picky and I wish I had found Jennifer sooner. She did a wonderful job on my eyebrows. I got the stroke technique and I swear no one can tell. I play with people and tell them I have a tattoo on my face and they say "where?" - That is how good Jennifer is. I highly recommend her and will continue to see and recommend her. I read a review that commented on taking the 5 star reviews with a grain of salt. Mine is 100% valid and real. I chose Jennifer off the web after doing a lot of research. She does work late nights may not respond right away but she is worth waiting to talk to and see. Once you see her you will see why she gets 5 stars from most of her clients. read more

Jennifer is very sweet and a true artists. I came to Jennifer because I had really boched eyebrows done by someone else. I have blackish brown hair, and the women who did my brows the first time gave me grey blocks. It was awful! I would never leave the house or go the gym wiht out makeup forever water proof eyebrow gel on. (BTW this stuff is the best and never budges). But this is the exact opposite of why I wanted to get my brows done. I came to Jeniffer and she first color corrected my brows, and then she went back and gave me that beautiful brush stroke look. I could not be more pleased. I finally do not feel awful about my brows--what a relief! I also had Jennifer do my lip line, and it looks great as well. I'm super gald I found Jeniffer. Thanks for makeing me feel confident again without makeup! read more

Every now and then you come across people in your lifetime that make a big impact on your life. Jennifer did in mine. She gave me a beautiful set of eyebrows! She is the most caring person, very attentive to your needs. Her office is beautiful and very clean and very sanitary, she even open's up the needles in front of you. She gave me back my confidence with the beautiful brows she gave me. I am 100% satisfied! As a mother of 2 small children, I don't have much spare time to spend on my make-up in the morning. I had thought of permanent makeup to ease my morning routine, but feared the pain of the procedure and ending up with an un-natural looking result. Thank goodness I found Jennifer! She took the time to find out what I really wanted and make sure it turned out exactly right. Plus, no pain! Now I get compliments all of the time on my eyes and nobody has any idea that they are enhanced by permanent makeup. Thanks Jennifer! read more

Jennifer did my eyebrows. Great job! No pain. She is a perfectionist. Not too expensive. I felt I was in good hands.

Thank you, Jennifer! Besides being a very nice and lovely person, Jennifer is a wonderful makeup artist! She did my eyeliner in Feb'13 and lips in March, and did a fabulous job! I asked for a very natural look and her application was just perfect for me. The eyeliner is awesome and makes my eyes "pop" even with no mascara or other makeup applied, and of course I can always add more emphasis for nighttime. My lips were a challenge since I have some significant scarring from a car wreck ages ago, and she applied the liner and lip color so well that my lips look much more even, and still very natural. I highly recommend Jennifer for your permanent makeup! read more

I never write yelp reviews - but Jennifer is amazing. I am blonde with blue eyes, blonde eyebrows, and blonde eyelashes. I went to her for permanent eyebrow make up and permanent eyeliner. She takes as much time as necessary to ensure that the procedure is done exactly as you want it. She pays so much attention to detail. The eyeliner is slightly more painful than the eyebrow procedure, but Jennifer is great with applying anesthetic as needed. I've never gotten a tattoo, and this procedure was definitely tolerable. I love waking up every morning with defined features and a nonexistent morning routine. So worth it. read more

This woman is an absolute WIZARD. I was in the habit of plucking the holy heck out of my eyebrows all throughout high school, to the result that they just never really grew back. She took truly great pains to make sure we penciled in the perfect shape before getting started. The tattoo process itself was just a tad bit nippy in the beginning, but because she reapplies the numbing cream after every pass on each brow, I was totally comfortable after the second dose. She is also such a kind and welcoming person that you can't help but relax around her. I'd recommend her to anyone who wants to roll out of bed every morning with brows on fleek. read more
