My kitty's doctor here is wonderful; very friendly, practical, and understanding of budget constraints. She didn't jump straight into expensive procedures right away, instead suggesting we try some more inexpensive solutions first, and moving on to a different one if it didn't work, one test at a time. She was also very flexible, knowing that my cat has extreme anxiety when going to the office, and was willing to make accommodations to avoid a visit if possible, or provide a gentle sedative solution if not (highly recommend this; the difference was night and day). Nobody likes needing to go to the vet, but all in all, my experience with Periwinkle has been pleasant. They've taken very good care of my baby, from her first kittenhood check-ups to her ongoing "weird girl" little quirks as a young adult. Highly recommend! read more

Though I've received nothing but bad news from them for a bit, it's definitely not thair fault and they've been very kind during the process. My cat Harley's doctor has been nothing but an angel and I can tell that she doesn't just see my best friend as a paycheck. It sounded almost like she was just as crushed as I was when she was telling me Harley's cancer diagnosis. There's some very good people in that clinic. read more

Sadly the receptionist here is insane. They did an extraction for me in 2016 the last time I was in this state and it was great and then I'm back in town for the first time since and my cousins dog needs her mouth looked at I called them to see about getting her in and the lady kept telling me "how unhappy I was with them according to the notes from 2017. Even after I explained to her that I had not even been in this state for the entirety of 2017 this was actually my first visit since moving in 2016 and she just kept on, over and over informing me of how unhappy I was with their service. Which clearly isn't how I remember things as I journal each and everyday and I went back to double check my journals and saw that I was totally happy with these people that's why I was contacting them to recommend them to someone else. However this phone answering person just kept at it until I had to hang up it's unfortunate but I'm def unhappy now with them. read more

I don't know what the other person who complained expected for her vet costs, but having paid SO much more to other vets in the past I was worried this morning when I brought my sick dog in. I expected to have to empty my account. Nope. This morning my dog was examined (without an appointment), had a stool test, and given meds all for a very reasonable price. I had been to the clinic once before, but with my cat, never my dog. There was no "new patient" extra fee to pay. The vet told me how I could make a bland diet for her instead of purchasing the expensive pre-made food. I very much appreciate the care received. My chihuahua had gotten into a whole bottle of prescription meds. I called to another clinic near by that wanted a deposit up front before seeing my dog. I then in turn called periwinkle clinic, and not only did they take her but was able to work with us as well. The compassion was great, as well as the care for the whole situation. As I had to have another family member go pick her up when she was released. Due to having to go to work. And they gave all the instructions so that my family member was able to relay it to me easily. This was a huge relief to a stressful day. read more

Have been to this place before, but never ended up walking out angry and upset as this time. Christine who is one of the vets has no bedside manner for the owner nor the pet. My pet has a hernia of some kind and seizures of unknown origin. My dog is 7 years old and the love of my life. I came to this place to get some sympathy and help as the dog is having some strange behavior and more seizures. She is on a prescribed dog food which is also a nightmare getting it shipped to my home. This veterinarian hurled insults at me like " the dog is better off dead" or "it needs to be put down, that's all I can say". She proceeded to examine my dog and squeeze her underneath her belly where her hernia was and the dog had surgery done the previous year. It was a kill it or nothing attitude that surprised me because I thought vets loved the work they do and the last thing they would heartily recommend is to kill an animal. My dog has problems but I won't kill it and I walked out insulted and contained myself instead of hurling some insults back. This place lacks professionalism and compassion. I was treated like an idiot and given no help whatsoever. Maybe this lady was having a bad day. I don't advise anyone to use her unless she wears a mask of happiness and fools everyone that she likes what she does here. This vet was clearly having a bad day and too bad for my little pooch who got no help whatsoever. Never going back!!!! read more

Thursday october 28th my wife calls periwinkle pet clinic at 8:05am no answer, we finally get through around 8:20am. ( they open at 8) We inform them that my 13yr old dog has a distended stomach and cannot sit or lay down without pain and with her condition we believe her kidneys have burst and she need emergency euthanasia. They inform us that the best they can do is Saturday october 30th @ 1pm, my wife hangs up the phone in disbelief that after 13yrs with this vet they would do this. We are very upset at this point and take our dog to north albany emergency vet to get the euthanasia done and get my dog out if this pain. Fast forward to yesterday November 12th my wife calls to request a prescription for worm meds through periwinkle vet clinic and they deny the request and say that the doctor will call us to talk to us about OUR behavior on October 28th on how we hung up on them. They never called us back as of 10am this morning. So at this point periwinkle vet clinic has denied my dead dog emergency care and now are denying my other 13yr old dog it's worm medication because they feel we were in the wrong for hanging up on them?? We have a new vet appointment with Albany Animal Hospital on December 16th so they think it is ok for a old 13yr old to be denied his prescription. Take it as you will but I for one will never go back to this clinic. I would not recommend this vet to anyone! read more

This is the hardest review I have ever had to write. I am writing it in the hopes that no one has to go through the same kind of experience I had with Periwinkle Pet Clinic, because some things can never be fixed when they go badly. We recently moved to Albany with our two older cats, Turner and George. Turner (17) had been diagnosed by another vet with stomach cancer about two years ago. In the time since, Turner had done rather well, until the last 6 months or so, when he had started to decline. He had lost enough weight to be little more than skin and bones, and while he ate nearly constantly, it just came right back out and he was getting no nutrition from it. He no longer moved much throughout the day. Even when I was holding him and petting him, he was far less responsive than he had always been. He was clearly experiencing pain. We decided that as soon as we got moved we would take him to a local vet to discuss euthanasia in order to spare him further suffering. I wanted his last days to be as pleasant as I could make them, and I wanted to be able to plan for his last moments being loved and pampered, not in pain and terror. After doing a little research, we decided to take him and George to Periwinkle. At the first visit with Turner I explained why we were there, and the vet asked questions and then asked if we were willing to test him to rule out a thyroid issue that would be treatable. She thought that was likely the case, and there was a good chance that she could help him with a change in diet. I explained that we did have very limited funds, due to an illness and disability. That said, I would find a way to pay for the test so we could be sure that we weren't ending his life when he could get better. If his current decline was due to something other than the cancer, I couldn't in good conscience do anything else. Turner was taken to their back room for a blood draw, and we were told they would call us with results. In the interim, we should change his diet to one with easily digestible protein, and to scramble eggs for him. The vet looked George over and suggested a pheromone collar for him, and said she wanted to give him some antibiotics for a gum infection. This was phrased as "I could give you some antibiotics to give to him". I was touched that they would do that, obviously being sensitive to our financial situation. When we left and it was time to pay, it became clear that she didn't mean "give" Visit cost - $294.80 I had expected total costs for the visit and euthanasia to amount to around $200.00, but when the vet said he could be treated, what else can you do? So I wrote a check and off we went to spend more money buying new food for him. At least he seemed to enjoy the egg. When we went back in to get the results, their scales showed that Turner had lost another 1.5 lbs. In a matter of a couple of days. The vet we saw on that occasion was skeptical that he had lost so much in such a short time and suggested their scales must be off. We were told that he had an UTI,. They would give us antibiotics & give him some iv fluids (again, "give", but I knew better this time). I truthfully should have said no at that point, and proceeded with planning for goodbye, but if we could give him a better last day on earth than the agony and terror he was going through I wanted to. So I agreed to give him the antibiotics. This vet actually DID say that he was "circling the drain" and would not be getting better, but said that we could make him more comfortable. I asked if they would be willing to euthanize him at home if we scheduled it in advance, and she said they would. So off we went home to give him his medicine and decide what day we wanted to set aside to have them come out. That visit - $140.25 Turner crashed so fast from there. He was more ill than we had ever seen him, suffering awfully. Couldn't even keep liquid down now, & was crying from the pain. Within 24 hours I had to take him back to end it. This was not done in the room with me, though they brought him back for me to hold him while it took effect. I was unable to keep him with me the whole time, so he got to experience even more unnecessary terror. There is more, such as not being told I would have to go pick up his remains at another location, but I will post that to my facebook review. I hope that you choose to spend your money somewhere that you know it is doing good for someone in your family, not just for the clinic. read more

I WAS a loyal customer until today, when I discovered that they had raised their prices over 60% within the last year. The receptionist said it was because of new guidelines from the national veterinary association, which is nonsense because the association doesn't dictate prices. When I spoke to one of the partners, she cited increasing costs, but cared not a whit about my shock regarding such a steep raise in rates. Update: I'm perfectly aware that prices go up, but a jump from $19.95 for a shot to $31.95 within ONE year is rather high. The boss I spoke to had only one tack regarding my complaint, and that was to complain about her costs. If she was really concerned about keeping her business profitable, she would have been concerned about retaining a long-term paying client. It may have only taken a $5.00 one-time discount, but she apparently lacks the necessary business acumen. read more

I used them for just convenience sake. I was truly shocked and insulted when the vet wrote in my cats chart "DECREPIT old kitty" a year ago. How insulting and incorrect was that? Not very professional at all. Do you wonder what they write about your pet? I think the word Geriatric cat is more professional, and I hope they take note of that! I was also charged for a T4 (thyroid) test $55 + for my dog but it was taken 8-9 hours after he had a pill, and the laboratory clearly states that this test should be done 4-6 hours after the pill was given. So my T4 test was useless and wasted monies. They should refund me for that. read more

Dr. Kim was amazing as she took me through the painful process of trying to turn around my pup's kidney disease and was both wise and sensitive when we found it had progressed too far to turn around. Back again out of deep gratitude for Dr. Alis and her fearless Vet Tech who wrangled down my hissing cat and clipped her talons, cleaned her sticky icky ears, popped her a tapeworm pill without lecturing me on the virtues of indoor-only beasts (who wouldn't need a tapeworm treatment in the first place), gave her two shots in the backside and then comforted her, telling her how good she is, a goooood kitty. They really get animals. My cat was humiliated but her treatment and care was outstandingly brave and totally professional. When they ran the bill I had to remind myself I wasn't at the burrito cart - seriously people, feel justified in raising your fees just a little - you deserve to be paid well for your exceptional work! We have taken our girl Hannah to Periwinkle for over 10 years and have never been anything but completely satisfied with the care and treatment she has received. I see that a couple of people have had some issues, but we honestly have never experienced the slightest problem with any of the Doctors, technicians or office staff. Every person we have ever encountered there has always been warm, caring and professional. I have 5 kitties, and four of them have been to see Dr. Millhollin and Dr. Clements. I enjoy each receptionist there, and they all obviously love animals. As far as price is concerned, they are half the price of my previous vet at a VCA animal hospital. 35 for an exam and around 50 for a 4 in 1 and booster. My last vet visit at VCA was 72 for an exam, and ended up being over 200 dollars for worm medication, saline nose drops, anitbiotics, and a viral inhibitor. People told me to go to Reed, but after reading reviews on Periwinkle, I decided to go there. I haven't been disappointed since. They have never jeopardized the fragile health of my underweight kitty with breathing problems, or my young orphaned kitten raised on a bottle. Most vets would have pushed me to spay my kitty with breathing problems, but Dr. Millhollin told me that it was risky. And most vets would have put my 3 week old kitten on anitbiotics, but she knew that would risk diarrhea, and the loss of the kitten. I have met many kitty-moms that have lost their babies because of the poor decisions of their vet. They have always been honest and kind, and put my animals health above all else. It is obvious that this is more than just a business to them, and I will continue to take my animals there. Update 5/25/2013: I moved from Abany to San Diego, California, and I can't say enough how much I miss this place. You just can't get any more of a personal and close relationship with a vet. I've had to go look for a new vet, and they are the standard I will use to decide which vet becomes my permanent one. It'll be hard to build up the same relationship with a new vet. I hope my review will encourage someone to give them a try. There are a lot of great vet clinics out there, and the staff of Periwinkle make up one of them. They are truly extraordinary. read more

I had my dog of 14 yrs. put down because of medical issues and I can honestly say my little girl suffered horribly I have always stayed and held my pets till their little hearts are not beating any more. When the vet went to give her her sedation shot instead of putting in her vein she stabbed it into her back right behind her shoulder which I had no idea she was going to do. Causing my little one to scream like I have never heard before and will never forget. Periwinkle is the best. I originally found out about them because they were way cheaper than anyone else to get our two boy cats nutered when they were kittens. Two years later, one of our boys got a deep puncture wound in his paw and we made an appointment on Saturday morning to come in for the last appointment of the day. We were coming from Corvallis into Albany and there was a huge back up on the Highway 20 bridge due to the merchant Halloween day which we didn't know was happening. There was no way we were going to make it on time for our appointment, more like we were going to be 30 minutes late and likely not make it there before they closed. We were so worried our cat wouldn't get in. I called them and they waited for us even though we didn't roll into their parking lot until 5 minutes to their closing hour. We were so relieved he could get treated to prevent infection. And she was so nice and didn't lecture us on having an indoor/outdoor cat. They are just a good straight-forward reasonably priced non-lecturing vet clinic. They have won our lifelong dedication... read more

Periwinkle Pet Clinic was recommended to us for taking our bunny to be neutered. This is not our regular vet but I'm thinking about switching our other pets as well. We were quoted $600-$800 at 2 other clinics so we weren't going to get it done. But, another family told us that Periwinkle Vet Clinic does it for around $125. The person I spoke with when I called to make the appointment was so friendly and helpful and they were so prompt and wonderful when we checked him in. They took such good care of him (even though he was super crabby after the surgery - especially about having to wear the cone) and sent us home with really good instructions and 5 days of pain meds. They also called the morning after to check in to see how he was doing (still crabby about the cone). So, we HIGHLY recommend this clinic over any of the other ones I have been to in Albany.
